If you can’t stand the heat…

Rome is the city of love and seduction, right? Not if you find yourself staying in a beautiful apartment with your childhood-friend-turned-arch-enemy, Will Ryan…no matter how hot he is!

Romance is the last thing on Lisa’s mind. She’s got more important things to focus on, like hunting down her estranged father. Except when her search falls at the first hurdle, Will doesn’t just help her get back on track, he also shares the romantic sights – and exquisite tastes – of the Eternal City, and Lisa starts to wonder if it’s not just Rome seducing her.

Only, as Lisa and Will dig into the past, neither of them is prepared for the long-buried secrets they reveal. Secrets that will turn both their world’s upside down …

She has sold translation rights to various countries throughout Europe, she's had two best sellers with Covent Garden in the Snow reaching the heady height of No 2 in the Amazon Kindle chart, something she never thought she’d see and The Little Café in Copenhagen becoming a big hit in Sainsbury’s. This is one I would never re-read. The H does something very selfish and he’s appallingly, weak and wishy-washy for a large part of the book. I don’t believe you can just talk yourself out of a weak character, so I anticipate that the heroine is in for a lot of suffering.

Such a joy to be back reading the From ...with love series, and I feel as though I haven't been away, with the story telling just as brilliant as the others. There is just such a comfortable feel to this book, its as though you are reading about old friends, but in reality Lisa and Will haven't been the focus of the others in the series, so its just clever writing making you feel as though you know them rather fast.

That being said, Siena and Laurie from the first two books do play a part in this one, but as From Rome With Love works as a standalone, you don't need to know them to in advance, but for anyone like me that has read them all, it is great to catch up with characters I love.

I feel as though I have had a fantastic trip to Rome through this story, taking in not only some of the major tourist attractions, but thanks to Will wanting to setup an authentic Italian restaurant, there is a lot of bellissimo Italian food. Lisa isn't the most adventurous eater, so its lovely to see her trusting Will, with trying some new delicacies, despite the fact the pair of them don't tend to get on.

Lisa is a lovely main character, she has a fear of heights, has never travelled alone before, and absolutely loves her Nan, and her guide book! Lisa has only agreed to this trip to Rome, in order to meet her estranged father, and allows a friend to give her free accommodation in Rome to save on money. However Giovanni appears to have other ideas.

Their first day sightseeing together gives important insights into both of their personalities, so its rather a relief that Will had managed to arrange his research trip to Rome, for the same dates as Lisa. Will helps Lisa with the search for her father, and I could see that the pair were growing closer over the days in Rome, even if they were denying it. There are definitely some surprises in store, as things are never as they seem.

With Lisa's guide book obsession, I learnt a lot about the Colosseum and also the Sistine Chapel, and I would have loved to gone to the Trevi Fountain with her. Then again I'd have also been happy with Giovanni's first night choice of things to do, but Lisa and Will weren't as enthralled at watching Rome vs Lazio in a Roman bar!

From Rome with Love blends in a perfect mix, Italian food, the city of Rome, romance, hidden family secrets, friendship and fabulous descriptive storytelling, in a wonderful story that I loved every second of.

Thank you to Harper Impulse and Netgalley for this copy of the book which I reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

I think I fell in love with this book more than From Paris With Love This Christmas. I reviewed that title recently, having caught it free on Amazon, and it surprised me so much with how I enjoyed it that I had to download this from NetGalley. I mean, my ARC pile was down to 2 books, so I had to stock up again, right?

Anyway, Will and Lisa's story intrigued me in From Paris With Love This Christmas. I always wondered what created the animosity between them and I'm glad they got their own book. They were a great couple of characters to watch unfold and fall in love. Seriously, this book brought a smile to my face numerous times. I loved Will's enthusiasm for food, but I also loved the playful flirting and irritation shared between him and Lisa. They obviously belonged together.

As well as that, I loved the setting. The author captured Italy brilliantly and it felt as if I was truly there. I could imaging this being a great holiday/beach read. This book also did what it sold me on--beating the January blues.

Overall, I enjoyed this even more than the previous book in the series. It held my attention the entire way through and kept me smiling. A beautifully written book I'd definitely recommend.

I really, really enjoyed this book. It was everything you expect from a romance novel and then some more. I liked the characters and their love story a lot. The settings weren't bad either - it is Rome we are talking about here, after all. ;) FRwL was a slow-burn, steady build-up sort of story with a twist towards the end which I had not expected (and which was a welcome surprise in a genre that is usually rather predictable). The only thing I was not happy about was that . Still, I would like to know more about the characters' happily-ever-after.

I am not sure whether there is a sequel (I hope there is) but even if there is not, it looks like Jules Wake is my new favourite author for long and depressingly dark late autumn/winter evenings. And I am definitely going to read the other books in the series (because it looks like I did not start with the first installment). Anyway, another rec from me if you are into this kind of reading and need a quick feel-good fix.

MTA: I enjoyed it even more on the second reading. Lovely characters, and a lovely story. Adding it to my comfort read shelf.

MTA: Still loving it, although it did make me miss normal life even more...

This book takes you on a wonderful tour of Rome - experiencing the tastes and smells alongside the spectacular buildings. My daughter went to Rome last year and I've wanted to visit ever since. This book has just renewed that feeling. Lisa wants to return something to her estranged father and stays at Giovanni's families home. Will has also tagged along to visit lots of authentic Italian food suppliers and although they've shared a 'moment' things are strained between them.

I loved the trips that Lisa went on with both Will and Giovanni, even imagining the hair pin bends that would scare me silly! Is there a spark of romance around, are the 2 lads competing for her attention? I just loved the whole book.

Postavy působí nevýrazně, ploše, a nezajímavě.

4.5 STARS http://greatreadsandtealeaves.blogspo...

In June I reviewed a Jules Wake book, ‘From Italy With Love’, and thought it was loads of fun. So when an opportunity came up to read another from the series, I jumped at the chance. What a fun series this is proving to be and although characters do arise from past books, each is very much a standalone read. You do not need to have read any of the other books but if you have, it’s like revisiting old friends and having a catch up which was nice.

I enjoyed this book tremendously - rating it even higher than previous ones. It was coasting along as a solid chick lit read, until about three quarters the way through and BAM! Such an unforeseen plot twist was introduced that elevated it that little bit more for me. For this is where Jules Wake excels, as her tales (like I wrote previously) are not just ‘fluffy’ chick lit, but contain intricate twists that, although you know you will get your happy ending, they keep you very much engaged with the characters.

What I also thoroughly enjoyed about this particular one was the depth and detail Wake provides you with on everything to do with Rome. She provides the almost perfect mix of romance and culture that I feel I have just arrived back from visiting the famous city myself! There are the obvious trips to the likes of the Vatican and Spanish Steps, but thanks to Lisa’s infamous guidebook, I learnt so much.

‘A list? You can’t do Rome by list. You have to live and breathe it.’

Add to that the amazing Italian cuisine with trips to authentic restaurants or wineries and it’s a complete getaway. As Will introduces Lisa to blind tasting tests on everything from olive oil to cheese production to learning the finer skills of wine tasting, you can’t help but literally savour the moment, as indeed the ‘passion for food positively glowed’ off the page.

One final winning aspect for me is the humour. I love both the lead characters and their bantering with each other is phenomenal.

‘Nice. Me? No you’ve definitely got the wrong man.’
‘I said nice. We are talking the dog’s arse end on the scale of compliments.’

Not to mention Lisa’s inner dialogue that I could very much relate to at times:

‘He wouldn’t be checking he had his phone or passport with him once, let alone on the half hour, every half hour.’

‘The horrible pull-along case, which had seemed so brilliant earlier, suddenly had a life of its own and did not want to partake in the hurried slalom through other travellers all heading down the same wide corridor.’

From Rome with Love is the perfect mix of all that is Italian especially the food, wine and culture. The friendships, romance and especially the hidden family secrets make this a wonderful read that kept me engaged and smiling all the way through.

‘Give people that feeling of holidays, the taste of Italy and the laid-back sense of having all the time in the world to enjoy the intense flavour of sunshine and tradition.’

Will used to be one of Lisa's best friends, but he is now her enemy because he broke her heart. They aren't speaking anymore and Lisa misses him. Lisa plans a trip to Rome to look for her father. When their mutual friend Giovanny offers her a place to stay in Italy Will invites himself on the trip as well. Instead of a fun holiday abroad Lisa is now going to be uncomfortable, because she will be spending all of her time in Rome at the same apartment as Will.

When Lisa arrives in Rome she hopes Giovanni will help her find her father. However, after a day he is needed elsewhere and at first Lisa dreads being alone with Will, but he proves to be the kind man she used to know instead of the man she hates so much. Lisa loves sightseeing in Rome, but she shouldn't be left alone in such a big city. Her navigating skills are lacking and she needs someone by her side to figure things out. When the search for her father isn't going according to plan Will is there to help. Is Lisa going to find what she's looking for and will the trip result in a happy reunion with her father?

From Rome with Love is a fun romantic story. Lisa is very sweet. She always wants to help others, she's great with kids and she loves with all her heart. Will isn't a bad guy, he had his reasons and feels bad about what he's done to Lisa. He's gentle and caring, but he works long hours and he's passionate about his job. He thinks he doesn't have much to offer, but is this really true? Lisa and Will are wonderful together and I loved their easy friendship and amazing chemistry. I hoped they would have a future together and couldn't turn the pages fast enough to find out.

What I enjoyed the most about From Rome with Love is Jules Wake's descriptions of food. Will is in Italy to find the best products for his new restaurant and I could almost taste every delicious ingredient the main characters are sampling. I loved how she makes Rome and every good thing Italy has to offer come to life. It's obvious that Jules Wake loves what she writes about and that made the story incredibly entertaining for me.

Lisa is in Italy because she wants to find her father. She doesn't expect to find love, but Rome brings her a lot more than she bargained for before she left. The story is being told from two points of view. Jules Wake switches between Lisa and Will and both of their characters are equally enjoyable to read about. The story ends in a chaotic and surprising way, which I found fabulously dramatic. I really liked From Rome with Love, it's a highly amusing and endearing story.

Neviem čo si o tejto knihe myslím. Začala som dokonca v polovici série a to som ani nevedela.
Tento príbeh mi dal presne to čo som chcela. Množstvo talianskych vibes a ľahkú romantiku.
A to ešte nespomínam hrozný preklad niektorých fráz z angličtiny do slovenčiny.

I have read the other books in the ‘From – with love’ series so I was obviously delighted to see this one. Although it includes characters and references from previous books it can certainly be read as a stand alone, admittedly it was nice to meet up with the old ‘friends’ again.

Lisa, lives with her Nan and is embarking on a trip to Rome to try and track down her estranged father. She is rather a shy, un-streetwise girl and the thought of flying alone is unnerving. She is even inexperienced in ‘foreign’ foods so this journey was going to be an ordeal for her! She manages to secure accommodation with an Italian friend which she thinks is offered from the goodness of his heart but he may have other ideas.

In the end though she ends up travelling with an old childhood friend, Will. They have history and have tried to avoid each other but the lure of Rome, sightseeing, food, her father etc brings them closer again in some respects.

I like the easy writing which includes plenty of subtle humour, the touch of romance, oodles of food (don’t read when hungry) the intricate tourist details. I have visited the attractions mentioned and it was like re-visiting some of them with my own personal guide.

Jules has a way of keeping the reader engrossed, you think you know what will happen but she takes you off on a tangent while the plot unfolds then pulls it all together again. Marvellous story, made me feel as though there is hope of summer ahead and Rome is the city of love.

Lisa and Will are fabulous characters and I could totally believe their sarcastic, easygoing friendship.

I read and reviewed this voluntarily, thanks to Netgalley, publishers etc.

Another gem from Jules Wake.

I love the way the setting is split between their hometown and Rome. You get all of the joys and problems of living in a small place, plus that feeling of sunshine and excitement you want from a holiday read. Rome in particular was beautifully depicted; Wake gave a gorgeous overview of the city without being too much like guidebook.

You could totally imagine the characters in this story walking into your life. Nan provides both humour and conflict in abundance and it's really easy to empathise with Lisa. She (and Will) face genuine problems but the story never gets too angsty or unbelievable.

One of the things that Jules Wake is so good at is creating layers of conflict and she achieves it again in this book. The later conflict holding Will and Lisa apart is surprising and unusual in this genre, and it's great to see authors playing with convention but maintaining the ethos of a romance.

This is a terrific read and I can't wait for more from this author.

Lisa heads to Rome with a friend in order to find her estranged father. Will finds an excuse to tag along and together they learn a lot about their past and the feelings they always had for each other.

Things I loved about this book:

Lisa is a strong character. She is nervous about taking chances, but she takes a deep breath and she does it anyway.

Will carefully works to expand Lisa's bubble and helps her experience new things while they are eating and drinking their way through Rome and the countryside.

There's angst but it is short and neither character lets it drag on and on.

Jules Wake manages to convey the atmosphere of actually being in Rome even if you've never visited. Add some super characters, a romance with a conflict ( and boy what a conflict when the twist appears) and you have a wonderful read. My favourite kind of book combines a good story with escapism preferably set in a foreign location and "From Rome with love' has this in bucketfuls. It also gives a few cultural tips should you actually be able to visit for real. Very enjoyable and after being immersed for a couple of hours was a tad surprised when I surfaced to find myself still in the UK!

Brilliant

Couldn't put it down and loved the way it tied up with Laurie and Cam. Also how Sienna is coming along. The way the two books connected with the characters and Italy. I've never been there but with all the terrific descriptions it was so easy to imagine being there. Loved the twist between between Lisa and Will. Everyone knows a Nan just like Lisa has got. Yet again thanks to Jules another lot of sleep lost as I had to keep reading! Can't wait for her next release which hopefully won't be too long.

Just the kind of book I wanted to read...until the unnecessary twist in the last quarter of the book. Sweet romance set in beautiful Rome...the author did a lovely job depicting Rome and its vibrant life. Not every love story needs some kind of unbelievable hurdle to overcome.

This was a fairly lightweight fast read with a good romantic storyline, likable characters, interesting locales and enough twists to keep my interest to the end.

The day I was lucky enough to win this book, was truly my lucky day! This was such a good book. I was totally immersed in it. The minute I started reading, it grabbed my immediate attention, and never let go.
I felt I was right there with Lucy as she tells in first person of her job as nanny of a teenage girl with lots of challenges and their subsequent trip to Rome for a Christmas trip. The descriptions of the city were very realistic and I found myself in Italy, enjoying the trip and the interesting mystery that developed.

I felt her thoughts as she was uncertain as to who to trust and who not to trust. Who to believe? I did have to laugh where perhaps others might not. She had a fall and I so totally related. Seriously, every time I go to Europe, I fall! In fact, my last trip, I told my family, just wait. I am going to fall and I did. Must be the European cobblestones!

I enjoyed every bit of this book. It had no dull moments and moved at a good pace to keep me reading. I totally loved this book.

I received a copy from the author. All thoughts are my own.

Osvědčená kombinace mé oblíbené autorky. Cestování, jídlo, romantika. Krásný chlap, skvělá žena. Nejdříve to nesedí a skřípe, pak to zajiskří, pak se něco pokazí a happy end to jistí. Protože svět potřebuje dobré konce a zamilované dvojice.

I'm sorry but this really wasn't a book for me. I hated the characters, especially the main ones Lisa and Will and I also felt like they had no chemistry. It was all very cliché and some plot twists or just the plot in itself felt not very well done. Especially that sibling trope is the worst and so unnecessary, like reading about Lisa wanting to kiss Will despite the fact that he might be her brother made me extremely uncomfortable. And also the fact that they want to marry after a week of dating? How fucked up that is? It would probably also be good to mention that I'm not exactly the target audience for this book, I'm 16 and reading something straight like this is not for me.

Ten dej a zápletka ma postupne vtiahla a musela som to dočítať.

Celkovo kniha vo mne zanechala taký príjemný dojem, či to bolo už spojením romantiky ale aj krásneho opisu Ríma.

Great story with likeable characters and a good plot. A woman goes to Rome to track down the father she has never met, rekindles a romance with a flat mate and gets some surprises from the father search. All comes right in the end.
