Publisher's Note This book was previously released as Renting Romance (Your Ad Here #4)
Gets an extra star for tackling difficult subjects well. Gets a terrible review for romance novel. If falling love could be achieved by spilling all your intimate secrets to someone I feel like there would be more therapist romances.
SPOILER ALERT Girl- I'm emotionally and physically a virgin Boy- I'm literally and figuratively scarred Girl- my father kicked me out so I could follow my dream... to sleep with Boy
I love Andrew! Who could resist the cheeky porno chief with a quick wit and self-depreciation. Handsome but scarred from life he meets his best friends younger sister Susan. She is like pixie dust - a free spirit filled with compassion honesty and a dancer too. They pull out the best in each other but with so much against them who could tell what was going to happen from page to page. It’s a love-story, not quite the normal romance - it goes far deeper than that. Bring into the mix complex relationships with family you have an addictive page-turning five star book that will make you fall in love with the characters and cheer on their successes and yell at their stubbornness - HEA to look forward to too!! I loved the final chapter!!
I'm giving this one a 4, but it comes with a caveat: the cheesy title (note: which I bought as "The Virgin and the Kingpin," though I guess it's since been renamed "Renting Romance") does not match the heartfelt, deep and real romance contained in this book. That's a good thing. But I think it did set me up to expect something a little more light-hearted and sparky than what I got - I wandered away from this story for weeks before coming back to finish it. It's incredibly well told, as everything I've read by Allyson Lindt is, but just know going in that this is a super sweet romance that takes its characters and their lives very seriously. The heat level (re: explicit sex scenes) is relatively low, and the two main characters are real people, not portrayed as the archetypes the title suggests.
In this story, Susan's a young woman (our titular virgin) who's trying to get her dream of being a star ballerina off the ground. We meet her when Andrew, a porn business kingpin, rescues her from a date who's trying to take advantage. This is somewhat eyeroll-worthy, but does allow for awkward "I guess you have to stay in my hotel room overnight" hijinks and a next-morning discovery that Susan is actually the little sister of Andrew's business partner and ex, Mercy. (Side note: there's clearly a lot of backstory between these two, and perhaps an earlier book in this series tells their story, but I hadn't read any of the previous entries, and still was able to follow this story and connections between Andrew and Mercy just fine.)
Susan and Andrew feel some instant sparks, but of course don't immediately follow it up; Susan because of her natural reluctance and Andrew recognizing how complicated that would be given his relationship with Mercy and his awareness of his own penchant for playing the field. Nonetheless, Lindt finds ways to bring these two back together in a much more believable fashion than the way they met, and also gives each of them meaningful side stories: Susan's path toward her own career and independence from her father, and Andrew trying to initiate a relationship with a ten year old son he let his older sister raise as her own. It's to Lindt's credit that these side stories never feel shoved in or a distraction from the growing romance between Susan and Andrew, but vital parts of each's character development and the forward movement of the plot.
Ultimately, once I settled in to the type of story I was getting - that sweet, heartfelt romance - I enjoyed it, even though it's a bit too sweet and innocent for my typical reading tastes. (And especially the end, ha!) Despite this one not being precisely up my alley, it has whet my appetite for another Allyson Lindt book.
Despite a few things I could've done without, I enjoyed Renting Romance, and the story kept me interested. In this book, Susan, who is Mercy's sister from the first book in this series, meets Andrew, who is one of Mercy's best friends and who was also her lover at one time, Andrew is in town for Mercy's wedding and to work with Mercy on his ad campaign for the porn company he owns, when he comes across Susan and helps her out of what could've been a bad situation. Andrew and Susan feel an attraction for each other, but Andrew has some reservations about being with Susan, and when Mercy voices her opinion on the matter, that causes Andrew to hesitate further, but Susan and him do begin to build a friendship, and as they grow closer things begin to blossom into more, but insecurities begin to take root causing problems for the two. I liked Susan, I like that she was honest about how she was feeling and that she went for what she wanted. I also liked Andrew, but I could've done without hearing about his past sexual conquests with women and men, and I also don't like that he slept with Susan's sister before, but it wasn't too bad, so I still enjoyed the majority of the story. I was also weary of him being in the porn business, but for the most part, I could look past that to see there was more to Andrew then that, and Andrew is actually a good, decent guy, who is still growing up and working on himself. I do wish there was a bit more depth to the characters, but Andrew and Susan do have good chemistry, and they do have some hot and sweet moments. I like that there is POV's from both Susan and Andrew, and I liked how there relationship developed. I haven't read any of the other books in this series yet, but I'd like to, and I think it isn't necessary to read them to enjoy this book, but there are some spoilers about Mercy's story, so you may want to read the previous books first. The writing was good, and Allyson Lindt tells a good story, so I'd also like to check out some of her other books.
It deadass took me more than a year to finish this, that should tell you everything you need to know about this book lmao. I was kinda disappointed and it took a while to finish because, wow, what a misleading blurb!
For this to be a book about a horny virgin and a porn mogul, it was pretty fucking boring. You wanna know how many sex scenes there are in this romance about a horny virgin and a porn king. 2.5 sex scenes. And the .5 is me being generous. The sex scenes were hot. I was into it. But these 2.5 sex scenes made up, like, 15% of the book? The rest was almost nothing but SUBPLOTS!
We spend more time in both Andrew and Susan's side-plots than we do with them building a sexy relationship together. The romance is there, but when you title your book THE VIRGIN AND THE KINGPIN, it needs to be fucking hot. A smokeshow. Sex, sex, and more sex. Instead I got baby daddy drama, poor little rich girl drama, so much backstory, so much angst, so much childish behavior on the guy's part. Basically, the opposite of sex, sex, sex. More like talk, talk, talk.
I wanted to see how it ended and the conclusion is sweet and all that. I'm happy they got to be happy. But not at all what I was expecting.
I don’t know if it’s my inner (ok, outer as well) geek or love of a good romance, but I’m a big fan of Allyson Lindt. This of course includes (but by all means is not at all limited to) her Love Equation series. No surprise then that I totally got into The Virgin and The Kingpin. Andrew is a fun character and it’s great watching him switch from his absorption with Mercy to (no matter how hard he resists) true love for Susan. Great (hot) story, excellent plot and writing, superbly crafted characters. What more could one ask for?
Allyson Lindt's "Renting Romance" is the fourth tale in the Your Ad Here series. I was waiting to find out more about Andrew. I love how broken he is. He has a lot of depth to his character, and many different issues to overcome. Lots of sexy chemistry. I love his descriptions of her...you can tell he is truly enamored with her. I had to go start reading "Boarding Buddies" (the story of Andrew & Mercy's past, which you can get through the author's newsletter) right away.
I really expected a ton of smutlike stuff in this book. I have to say I was very happily surprised to find very little sexual stuff and a very well written story!I really enjoyed the ups and downs throughout the different relationships written about. Father and daughter, friend and friend, ex and ex, employer and employee, but most of all, lover to lover. It was a fantastic experience to read it!
The novel was interesting, thought some would say porn is too taboo of a word. The story line was a bit typical with the agony and demons the hero carried within. Although, still enjoyable to see how the heroine captures the all time bachelor with her “innocence”. I will say this is a read at your own risk type of novel for there is a trigger warning scene that some won’t like in this day in age. Thus, this is your warning.
I wasn't too sure about this, I gave it a go, and then thought "nah its not for me" I turned my kindle off. However the story kept nagging on at me, what had happened to Andrew? What's the plot twist with Susan? So I had to read more. It totally sucked me in, the heartbreaking story of Lucas and the single mindedness of Susans dad. There was just enough twists and turns to keep me interested, and not at all a loot of porn like I originally thought.
This is the first time I've read anything from this author, so I didn't know what to expect. I liked it. There was enough depth to get a real sense of the characters and enough story to keep you engaged the whole way through. I will say, considering Andrew's industry and all of the innuendo, the intimate scenes were a bit lacking for me. I don't really know how to explain it, but I was expecting more.
I love this book! I love how absolutely depraved Andrew is/was. I love that Susan was the only one who could have fit him, made him want better, made him think he deserved better, made him realize he could be. This book was dark, sexy, and angsty, and honest and heartwarming and pervertedly charming.
The Book was nice but for the profession the main character did not fit well in the story
I felt the book lacked content for both characters. The plot was okay but not great. The characters did not interact Sith the storyline. This book is a clean content for young ears although the role model should have been raw in places in the book.
A five star read! Delicious fantasies, strong desire, angst and finally love. Andrew is a hard one to figure out. Susan is innocent but determined. It will keep you on your toes.
I usually only give a one star if I DNF a book. I actually finished this one, so I gave it two stars. It piqued my curiosity, but it wasn’t great. The plot was all over the place and very one dimensional at the same time. Probably won’t be taking a chance on any more of these.
I couldn't finish...its just talk about sex sex sex, make it explicit and con a virgin...granted, she seems to be interested but the story line is pretty damned scant! Zzzzzzzz
Sweet story but a bit slow at times. Needs some editing and grammatical checks. Characters are interesting but a better understanding of some of their pasts would have clarified things.
I really liked this story, the girl is cute and sweet. I always love a good Virgin taking Story! The Kingpin in the title kinda threw me off, I was expecting a drug kingpin. But overall good read, not boring, story kept progressing never slowed down.
The Virgin and The Kingpin(The Love Equation Book 4)
I found this book to be a nice book to read,I enjoyed reading about how was person was feeling or thinking at the time it started out slow it did pick and got to the good stuff the sex!
I mean... with a name like "The Virgin and the Kingpin" you can't expect too much. I do expect a lot fewer typos though. Man. Of course, this book was free, and I read it all, so I couldn't have hated it that much.
Sexy virgin trope is not my favourite but I was surprised that the romance had charm and sweetness at times, as well as steamy heat. However there was too much drama and angst and from rest of family so won't re-read. TOASTED from my Ebook Library.
This is the first book I read in the series and I enjoyed it ,now I’m going read the rest the this series. Books look interesting with different characters as interesting stories.
Susan is a 21 year old ballet dancer that has an issue with performing in public so who better to help her get over her performance anxiety than a porn king. Through all the family drama that goes an around them they somehow fall in love.
I don’t like to give spoilers on the books that I read. I believe the blurb on the back is enough for you to decide if you will read the book or not. If you choose to read, enjoy!
Susan is a dancer but has trouble when performing in public. Andrew the Kingpin of porn, who better to help her with her problem. This is a good read, I loved the characters, except Susan's dad. He was scum.. Read it for yourself, you will either love it or hate it!
loved this story!!! definitely a beauty and the beast story.. the beast being the King of porn and the beauty being the virgin kid sister of his best friend.. I highly recommend this story!!!
