Seattle has become a dumping station for society’s misfits. For the werewolves who don’t have perfect control. The vampires that give into bloodlust. Those who are exiled there, Orphans, are not allowed to leave through threat of death.

Asire Thomas has lived in Seattle since she was sixteen. She knows how the city works and understands the dangers of breaking the rules. However, someone is attacking the city. She and the other Orphans fight back, but cannot stop them from kidnapping one of their children. Desperate to get her back, Asire calls in some help, knowing that if the wardens find out, it’ll mean her death.

Loki Heron has spent the last four years of his life mourning the death of his beloved mate. He’s thrown himself into work and taking care of his Family. When one of them asks him for permission to go to Seattle, he decides to help. The last thing he expects is to meet Asire, who stirs up all kinds of emotions he doesn’t want to look too closely at.

The last thing Asire wants is to complicate her life with a relationship, especially after everything she’s already suffered. None of it matters, though, because Loki attracts her attention like no other has before. Yet, the two of them need to set aside all those feelings to save the child. And do it all without anyone seeing them break the rules.

**** 4 Cranky Stars ****

Love the authors imagination. She creates an alternate world that is filled with familiar creatures and legions.

Asire is a legion who was banished to Seattle. Seattle with its gloomy weather seems the perfect backdrop for this tale of murder, kidnapping, and misunderstanding.

The story is about a young woman who at age sixteen is betrayed by her family and sent far away from her cousin, Billy who she grew up with and whom she feels is her ally. Billy and her have been through so much abuse but it taught them to fight. Both girls are strong and have amazing talents. This book has demons, vampires, werewolves along with spell casters and humans too.

The story begins with a bang. Seattle is being attacked by brutal mysterious strangers bent on killing and destroying all in their wake. When Reggie, the leader of the legions, puts a call out to her people to go to a safe house, things go from bad to worse quickly.

A toddler is kidnapped and Asire calls on her cousin and her cousin's family to help. By doing this Aire risks execution and all the lives of her friends and her cousin as well as a broken heart. Will the gang find the toddler? Will they survive? Can Asire deal with all the changes? Is there a way to keep a war between the three major species from happening? Can this group of multi talented creatures come together to right a wrong?

Action packed, but I still wanted to find out more about this secretive legion. I felt like the book needed to explain more or at least use some of the revealed information more. It felt like more could have been told about Asire, Reggie and the other orphans of Seattle. It was written in first person point of view and the author did a great job switching between Asire and Loki, the handsome leader of Billy's family.

When you lose someone, it is like your soul is being pulled from your body and sadly this story has more than one character experiencing that kind of pain.

The book contains some strong language, sexual situations and lots of violence. The author touches on rape, drug abuse, and child abuse. It is a serious book with comedic moments sprinkled in. I hope the author will revisit Seattle soon. I think there is more to be told about these interesting characters.

I downloaded Dark Days as a free book from Amazon. Here's an example of a book with a promising blurb which fell short on multiple levels. First, we have a number of small irritating typos that a good proofreader should have caught (say=stay, too=to, heroin-heroine), not to mention misused words. The writer uses short, choppy sentences rather than comments, which makes the reading awkward. There is character-traits and comments shared, which blurs the lines between the characters (one example is two different characters--a male and a female--used the phrasing that "her eyes popped against her skin" to emphasize contrast. I don't know any man that would think that phrasing). The traits for a Legion was never really defined, so I never had a good mental picture of them and their abilities. The story had excellent possibilities and an intriguing plot, but the editor should have pulled this a lot tighter and made the flow easier to read.

My Thoughts

"Motherfucking piece of shit," I said, because sometimes you just have to curse to make things better."

SAME

Holy Shit! This book was INSANE! A fantastic, suspenseful type of insane. It has everything I want in a paranormal book; vampires, werewolves, magic, and angst. It was absolutely perfect.

From the moment I started Dark Days I knew I was going to be in for a thrill ride. Asire is such a badass, she's the epitome of my favorite type of heroine. Strong, independent, take no names, she knows how to get the job done and won't stop until your ass is grass if you have crossed her. She has a dark past, a past that she has to thank for who she is today because although it was absolute hell it is what helped her survive her time on the streets.

Don't even get me started on Loki. Oh how I love alpha males. He is the perfect match for Asire but he has his own past that he is struggling to get through, meaning he doesn't want to let Asire get to him. Hence the angst...and sexual tension, such a perfect mix!

There is a whole cast of secondary characters that help make up Asire and Loki's squad, each with their own unique traits and quirks. Towards the end of the book Asire is given a choice and I can't blame her for being completely torn between the two solutions. My hope is that when it's all said and done she won't actually have to choose.

The story moves seamlessly, you get sucked in and don't want to stop. I was picking it up every chance I could get and I wasn't able to stop thinking about it when I had to set it down. I'm highly anticipating book two, I can't wait to see how things between Asire, Loki, and the gang continue to progress!

Welcome to Seattle where you will meet vampires, werewolves, and Orphans. It is the melting pot of paranormal.

This book sucked me in from page one. I fell in love with all of the characters.

Ms. Hall creates a world of chaos. It is a dark place that will have you looking over your shoulder wherever you go. The orphans, werewolves, and vampires live in somewhat of a "truce" in Seattle.

Asire is a bad a$$ chick who fights for and protects her "family" of orphans. She is cool, calm, collected and you don't want to make her mad. Each orphan is unique in personality and abilities. There are a interesting group. Loki is the the leader of his family. He will protect all in his family to the end. He himself lives in mourning after losing his mate. When he meets Asire he is intrigued but feels that he has not right to act on any of his feelings. As they get to know each other they learn the devastating secrets of their past.

Ms. Hall does a fantastic job of creating a web of a story that will pull you in and make you feel so many emotions. Each page brings action that break all the rules, heartache, love, camaraderie, and fear. I was so engrossed that when I read the last page I was devastated that the story had ended. It does end with a cliffhanger and I NEED to know what happens next.

Actually a 4.5 star for me, but I like to round up :)

This was a fantastic urban fantasy/dystopian story! The characters have real depth and I loved Loki so much! I’ve read a Sarah Hall book before, so I knew I enjoyed her writing style, but I loved this one so much more than I thought!

The world Hall created is dark and scary and not someplace I’d want to live, but I loved it. Now I just have to wait patiently for the next book and to find out what happens next. There was a cliffhanger, so I have questions that need to be answered!

Also, it’s on Kindle Unlimited right now, so grab a copy!

Must read

I saw this book title on a blog. I wasn't reading anything at the moment so why not.

So glad I did. I was kept engrossed in the story. When I had to stop to do something I rushed back to continue it. Asire is such a complex character. Heck they all are. I can't wait to read the next one.

Cliff hanger

Oh my god. You left me needing answers. Did they get Asire back? Did they meet with grandfather? Did they help with the vampire war?
