Politics in India since Independence Textbook in Political Science for Class - 12 - 12119

The National Curriculum Framework (NCF) 2005 recommends that children's life at school must be linked to their life outside the school. This principle marks a departure from the legacy of bookish learning which continues to shape our system and causes a gap between the school, home and community. The syllabi and textbooks developed on the basis of NCF signify an attempt to implement this basic idea. They also attempt to discourage rote learning and the maintenance of sharp boundaries between different subject areas. We hope these measures will take us significantly further in the direction of a child-centred system of education outlined in the National Policy on Education (1986).

Careful play of words to present nearly one-sided history.
The good thing about this book is, it's very engaging and easy to read. However, if you know the actual events and history and you start paying careful attention to words, the leftist and pro-Congress bias becomes obvious. Mind you, the book I read is published after Modi's election. Firstly, 6 chapters mostly on Jawahar, Indira; two chapters preaching regionalism and presenting a leftist narrative of regional movements and one chapter covering everything after the 1990s. I mean, the book has given less than a paragraph to Sardar Patel yet has included a long quote from Jinnah in the first chapter portraying him as a secular leader. Its NCERT wants this book to be liked by Pakistanis as well.
The description of the emergency is another interesting example. This book uses twice as many arguments in favour of emergency compared to the number of arguments it used to counter it.
About Gujrat riots, it termed it as anti-Muslim riots and said that riots against Muslims started on the "Suspicion" that Godhara fire was initiated by Muslims (everybody knew Godhara was planned Arsene by a group of Muslims). Wrong, another wrong statement is the fact that the number of deaths being projected as mostly Muslims (more than 300 Hindus also lost their life). The book kind of indirectly suggested that Gujrat government was at fault yet it conveniently omits the part where SIT and Supreme Court has given a clean chit to Modi and that riots were controlled in 2 days by Gujrat police.
I have read quite a few biased, leftist history books. It easy to fool readers in case of ancient history, medieval history (where you have to do deep research to find out the factuality of the statements), but this book has used the tactic of wordplay, careful omissions and inclusions of statements to fit a certain political narrative.
