Tallulah Silver is tough. She has to be—because she’s the Choctaw nation’s only female shadow hunter, and because she doesn’t know how else to survive the loss that almost destroyed her. Payton Rodgers has devoted his life to protecting his pack. But when mauled bodies start to pile up in the bayou, Payton begins to wonder if Tallulah might be right about werewolves deserving the blame. As darkness gathers around them, Tallulah will have to decide if she can risk opening herself up to love again. And Payton will have to determine where his true loyalties lie.

Not necessary to read the firs two books to follow the story in this one. I enjoyed it well enough, would possibly read others published under Harlequin Nocturne.
This story is very compelling and filled with excitement and secrets! The thing about secrets is that they never stay secret for long. You read this story with details of the town they live in and the complicated relationships between the people that live on the bayou! The way the author writes this is so realistic and so similar to things that we see every day in the real world!
If you like strong women who can look after themselves but still have a huge heart, then this book is for you! Tallulah is all this and so much more! I loved reading about her courage and inner fight, of course she would have to have a strong mate, one who could control some of her feistiness...Layton is just that, with a past that has scarred him for life he is strong, searching for a place to call home which shows his softer side. He may have just found it in Tallulah.
Bayou Wolf takes us back to Bayou La Syrina and The Shadow Hunters. There are some newcomers in town and trouble accompanies them. An engaging story right through!
Tallulah is a Shadow Hunter and twin to their leader, Tombi. Having been through some deep emotional turmoil over the past two years, she is disillusioned with her personal life. She is loved by her family but doesn't believe that she will ever find happiness in any other relationship.
Payton, a werewolf is a lumberjack currently working on a temporary contract in town. He doesn't stay in one place for long as he goes wherever there is a job for his pack. This is one of the reasons that he doesn't commit to long term relationships. He is very loyal to the pack.
Tallulah's main concern is the wildlife. Not being one to shy away from anything, she goes to confront the lumberjacks and this is how she meets Payton. Not a good start. Tallulah doesn't like the fact that Payton is part of the team destroying her native land whilst Payton thinks that she is stubborn. He also thinks that she is beautiful and sexy. Tallulah is outraged at herself for thinking about him!
Tallulah comes across a wolf in the woods and she is baffled. There are no wolves in this part of the country. She then stumbles on a mutilated body and is convinced that there is something strange about the newcomers. They set out to extract information from each other but as they spend time together, that intention goes out the window. They can't fight the attraction even when they learn about their true nature and knowing that any involvement can only be temporary.
They have to find a way to stop any further carnage. Identifying the culprit comes as a shock to Payton and now everyone is in danger.
Payton is torn between his loyalty to the pack and what Tallulah means to him. Tallulah is convinced that history will repeat itself. Can they find their happily ever after?
The customs and rituals of the Choctaw are fascinating and very well documented. The lycantropic fever brings an interesting twist to the plot. A fabulous storyline and another supernatural aspect to this superb series. Payton and Tallulah are lovable and loving characters, although they both have their moments. The secondary characters are portrayed so well that they support the main characters without losing their own identities. Oh! And one more thing. Humour! I loved each and every aspect of this novel as much as the whole series.
I received a complimentary eARC and the views expressed are my personal opinion.
Bayou Wolf, the third book in the Bayou Magic Series, is a great romance set in Louisiana. It has a unique story-line that features will-o’-the-wisps, Hoodoo magic Native American lore and wolf-shifters. I love how the different types of legends and lore fit together perfectly. This book can be read as a stand-alone book, but I highly recommend reading the other books first. The characters make appearances and it is great to see them again.
Tallulah Silver is the tough as nails, sarcastic and sometimes witchy with a B, sister to Tombi, the main character hottie in Bayou Shadow Hunter. She is the only female shadow hunter of the Choctaw tribe and suffered the devastating loss of the love of her life, Bo, in the first book. She had not fully recovered from that loss and was still visiting the shrine she had created for him in the woods. I was not a big fan of Tallulah in the first two books, but Debbie Herbert managed to make me really like her in this book.
Payton Rodgers, hot, hot, hot wolf-shifter, devotes his life to his pack and feels indebted to them for taking him in as an orphaned teen. The pack moves all over the country, working temporary lumberjack jobs, which lead him to Tallulah’s woods. Payton stays at the fringe of the pack not quite fitting in with the other and constantly defending his place and his past.
Payton and Tallulah had a turbulent start to their relationship. She hated his job and fought to protect the land she loves. He has to protect his pack and their livelihood, but hates the ramifications of his profession. she knew he was keeping secrets from her. He didn’t trust her and he knew that there was more to her than she portrayed to him. Tallulah was determined to find out what he was hiding. They had some interesting adventures and some scary close calls, all bringing them closer together while fighting their mutual attraction to each other. I love Payton’s struggle being torn between his loyalty to the pack and his feelings for Tallulah.
This book has a great story-line and the supernatural aspects of the book were well done. Wolf-shifters are one of my favorites. I loved experiencing a different atmosphere and cultural references that are not common in other books. I loved seeing Annie, Tombi and Chulah again in this book. I have read other books by this author and they have all been great. I am looking forward to reading more from Debbie Herbert.
This was first published on my blog " Lecture Toute une Aventure"
My opinion: After reading and loving book 1 i couldn't wait to have more of the series as it has romance, action and the bayou setting so when i discovered that this one has werewolves too couldn't resist any longer. i don't regret it even if Tallulah was my least favourite character...i mean she suffered a lot i get it but it made her so bitter and so cold that it was hard to warm to her even if she got better. Now, discovering who her mate is we understand a bit more i think^^.
Tallulah is still hurt from the past events but she doesn't stop trying to do her hunter job as best as she can if no better. During one of her nightly hunts ,she encounters a wolf with unnatural behaviour but manage to make it leave. Since wolves are not native from the area it makes her suspicious. However no matter the nightly events, during the day she is still the stubborn woman she is and discovering that a crew is cutting wood on the tribe land puts her in combative mode so she doesn't hesitate to confront the workers among whom Payton reacts to her.
Payton is loyal; perhaps even too much he had a difficult upbringing and because of that he feels in debt to his pack..his job doesn't make him happy but it's good for the pack so he does it. All is about the pack until he comes across Tallulah who fast become Lulu for him. He is intrigued, wants to discover more about her - is ordered to by his alpha ( and worse)- but there is more. He doesn't want to do it for his pack but wants to protect her even more after finding her hurt. So suddenly he is stuck between two universe not sure what his place should be. I loved how honest he was with her ( i did want to shake him a few time as well so it was good that " Lulu" didn't keep her tong in check.)
The story was well written even without reading book 2 nothing seeming off, we got the info needed so this works well as standalone ( even if i recommend to read the others). the investigation was well done with the touch of romance and action well balanced.
I was really happy with this book, read in one sitting. the pace was constant, i saw Annie like i wanted so i definitively recommend this if you want a romance with paranormal elements set in the bayou.
All three connected Bayou Magic stories have been truly fascinating, and BAYOU WOLF is certainly a rewarding read. With its werewolf hero and spunky heroine, I was intrigued from the start of the book and only became more interested with every new detail. A werewolf with good intentions has long been a favorite supernatural being, and Payton Rodgers was trying to do what was right despite having obstacles thrown his way again and again. Tallulah Silver is determined to prove her worth although she is female, and I really enjoyed seeing her shine during tricky predicaments. Debbie Herbert always manages to create enthralling storylines for her paranormal books, and BAYOU WOLF never disappoints.
When the only man that Tallulah Silver had deeply loved was killed by an evil spirit, it nearly broke her heart. Now she devotes much of her life to being a shadow hunter in order to make certain no other dark spirits harm anyone in Bayou La Siryna, Alabama. She is proud of her Choctaw heritage, and protecting others is her focus at this time. One night while paying respect to her deceased boyfriend where he died, Tallulah encounters a strange wolf-like beast, one not easily frightened away. She just hopes this creature is not some new being come to torment those who live in the bayou.
The first meeting wolf shifter Payton Rodgers had with Tallulah was a confrontation when she was protesting the cutting down of trees for which his pack was given a contract. Then it seems as though their paths are constantly crossing for various reasons. When someone in the area is killed, Tallulah thinks Payton and the men with whom he works know something about the incident. There are some secrets that he is hiding, but divulging them will threaten his pack which he refuses to do and she is not yet ready to let another man get close to her anyway.
A clever blending of romance with the paranormal makes BAYOU WOLF entertaining on every page. I have always found Debbie Herbert to have an extremely vivid imagination, and her concept for the Bayou Magic miniseries is definitely not your ordinary supernatural tale. The sneaky dark spirits in the stories are back once again, but this time, the shadow hunters must also contend with some problems that deal with werewolves. This pack of shifters has their own unique abilities, and I liked discovering what particular traits the author would give her supernatural creatures. It was great catching up with the characters from the other two books in the miniseries, too. The Alabama setting comes alive with colorful descriptions that lead to realistic images.
I was captivated by all the secrets being kept by Tallulah and Payton, and many of them caused me to be nervous about what would happen when these truths were exposed. I was especially worried over how each would react when certain hidden facts become known, as she could speak without thinking sometimes because of her quick temper. This caused several of their scenes to be very exciting. Ms. Herbert made a relationship between these two rather difficult because of the numerous differences that would need some compromising before any bond could ever last. There were some emotional moments along with instances where passionate desire was controlling their responses, but regardless of the sentiment expressed, every situation was believable. I cannot wait to see what Debbie Herbert writes next.
The story is pretty good, but the writing leaves a lot to be desired. The publisher should be ashamed to have produced such a poorly edited book. Not only are there missing words and non-sequiturs such as a character answering her own comment and a full moon occurring the night after a new moon, but the very title gives away the hero’s ultimate decision. The cover is weird, with sideways trees, and “The Taming of the Shrew…” heading on the back cover demeans the very interesting heroine. This book is one of the few shifter novels I’ve actually enjoyed and better care from the publisher would do it more justice.
When Payton and his pack come into town to cut down trees, Tallulah stops at nothing to protest the job. So when Payton's alpha Matt wants him to spy on Tallulah, they learn that they both have secrets of their own. Will they be able to trust each other with secrets of who they are when both the Shadow Hunters and Werewolves have to come together when a threat of an infected Wolf plans to destroy anything and everything in his path? Loved this series! And I'm glad that Tallulah opened her heart to another guy after she lost her first love.
It was nice to see a different sort of paranormal creature brought into this series, and Payton made a good match for Tallulah. I was also tickled to read a story about the Choctaw tribe. My great-grandmother was pure-blood Choctaw, only she was from Oklahoma. I even learned a few words in Choctaw from the book.
The story was well-told , and the book-was well-edited, both of which made the story a delight to read. I'd recommend the book to lovers of paranormal romance stories. In fact, I'd recommend the entire series.
From the moment I picked up this book I could not put it down. I love the way the author draws you into her amazing magical world and does not let you go. Action, Adventure and Love what more do you need. This one takes you through the entire range on human emotion. Looking forward to more from this author.
Another awesome book by Debbie Herbert!!! I love this series!!! I'm so glad that Tallulah finally got happiness!! She had been through a lot in this series!! Her and Payton make a great couple!!!!
I chose to read and review this book. I enjoyed reading this one there was a different element than what I am used to. I liked Payton and Tallulah characters it is well written nice flow of events nice storyline I recommend it
Gave this book a 3.5 rating. It was a good story but I found it easy to put down and read something else. It was the weakest of the series. Tallulah deserved her happily-ever-after but I didn’t really care for Payton. He was way too passive.
I didn't read the first two books of this series but I didn't have any confusion while reading and I loved the story and the characters. I'm looking forward to reading more of Debbie's books!
Bayou Wolf is the latest installment of Debbie Herbert's Bayou Magic Series. It's a Harlequin Nocturne publication and full of what I've come to expect from Debbie. The story is about Tallulah, a Choctaw Shadowhunter. She is the only female in her group that aids in keeping the balance of good and evil in Bayou La Syrena (literally the best town ever...I mean I want to live there soooo bad). She's had some really tough breaks in the romance department until she meets Payton.
Payton is a wolf shifter from Montana, just coasting through life by obeying his Alpha and traveling with his job. He meets Tallulah and sparks fly. He's fascinated by her, but lots of obstacles; like murder and disapproval from the pack, stand in their way.
I enjoyed this book immensely. I'm a huge fan of this series and finished my book in a day (as I have with nearly all of Debbie's books) I'm gladly (and FREELY) giving this book 5 out of 5 stars! It's a Harlequin publication so it is definitely 18+ but the intimate scenes, as always, are tastefully written and fit the storyline well. I hope you enjoy Bayou Wolf as much as I did!
Tallulah Silver had to make her way in the male world of the shadow hunter, experiencing devastating loss and betrayal along the way. Her prickly defenses and her direct manner puts off those around her, leading her to a lonely life filled only with memories and regrets. Payton Rodgers, a werewolf without a family, is indebted to the alpha wolf and the leader who took him in when all other wolf packs shunned him. The transient wolf pack moves to Alabama to escape suspicion when a rogue wolf in Montana murders multiple humans. Suspicion follows the groups when another human is found murdered near their Alabama home. Tallulah’s shadow hunter abilities means she sees, hears, and smells things most normal humans can’t, and her suspicions about the new group increase as she tracks an agressive wolf back to their rented farmhouse. Payton, intrigued and attracted by Tallulah, agrees to stick close to her to report any suspicions Talllulah has developed about the new group of men. Rather than being put off by Tallulah’s ill-tempered exterior, Payton is intrigued and drawn to the challenge she presents. Until the dangerous rogue wolf, hidden within Payton’s pack, emerges to threaten both their lives.
This final book in the Bayou Shadow Hunter series is well worth the time spent reading it. Once I started reading it, I had to keep turning those pages until I had finished the story in two days! If you like paranormal romance paired with action, adventure, and strong characters, you’ll want to add this book to your collection. Don’t pass up Tallulah and Payton’s fabulous story.
I received a copy of BAYOU WOLF by Debbie Herbert in exchange for an honest review. Note: this review contains spoilers! I was surprised by this book. I haven't read the other books in the series, but that wasn't an issue. There is a wolf shapechanger, but in my mind he really isn't the main character: that would be Tallulah Silver. A Choctaw shadow hunter working with her brother and others to keep their part of the bayou safe. She is the first one to see the rouge wolf, the first to confront the loggers including Payton Rodgers the hero, the first to find the dead body. After being confronted by a wolf twice in two days in an area where there shouldn't be any wolves, Tallulah decides to follow it to see if there is a pack somewhere that she needs to worry about. Instead, she sees the wolf enter a farm house through a doggie door. No screams come from the house. While trying to decide what to do, Tallulah hears the front door open so she hides by one of the trucks in front of the house. It would have to be Payton coming outside! Drawn to each other in spite of his logging job and the lies they must tell each other, Payton cannot tell Tallulah he is a wolf and she cannot tell him she is a shadow hunter, the two are drawn together. Slowly they begin to share a bed and then secrets as Payton joins Tallulah and the others on a shadow hunt and Payton unexpectedly turns into a wolf in front of Tallulah. The characters and story line are well developed. It was fascinating to read the descriptions of the woods at night from those who could see in the dark versus those who couldn't. The details of the Choctaw beliefs were also well done. Very well done!

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
This is the first book that i have read by this author and i can guarantee that after reading this book it definitely won't be the last, i was super impressed by this book and it's author, i loved this book!
This storyline is extremely compelling and filled with excitement and secrets and the thing about secrets is they never say secret for long. You follow this tale with all the intricate details of the town that they lived in and the complicated relationships between the people that live on the bayou! The way the author describes these are so realistic and identical to things that we see and feel every day in the real world!
Like strong warrior women characters who can look after themselves but still have a huge heart? Then this book is for you! Tallulah is all this and so much more! I loved reading about her and her courage and inner fight, reading about this fictional character is very inspiring! Of course she would have to have a strong mate...Layton is just that, with a past that has scarred him and tainted him for life he is strong and stubborn, searching for a place to call home that shows his softer side.
This really is an amazing book and i highly recommend it to everyone, it's a must read and a major page turner!
This book was amazingly paranormal! I think it was the best book of the whole series! I've read all of them and I have to say that the characters along with the setting, is so deep and full of magic.
Debbie Herbert writes with heart. She writes with charm, and she writes with magic.
Going in deeper to the book, you find yourself wondering who the rule breaker is. I myself figured it out before the author said, but I read a lot of Mystery books and can usually spot the bad guy right away.
I was soooo happy with Tallulah in this book. Her character was always hard as stone in the other books, but that's because she felt like she had to be. She was the only hunter in the pack who was a female. I can see how that would happen to me, if I had to be so strong around guys all of the time.
Her character is strong and sarcastic. AND AWESOME!
I'm a little disappointment with this book because the author left out a few things. In the second book you find out Annie is pregnant, but the baby isn't mentioned at ALL in the third book. And I feel like the ending was cute short, as with the first two you got to watch the characters marry. It didn't really take anything away from the story though, so this is still in my honest opinion, a 5 star read!
When Payton and his pack come into town to cut down trees, Tallulah stops at nothing to protest the job.

I was so excited when I got the chance to review this book early. I dived into it the minute I could and I loved it .Bayou Wolf is another fantastic book by Debbie Herbert. In this book we follow Tallulah and Payton and at first these two did not get along , but as we get deeper and deeper into the story and they get closer things change between them. I felt like the romance in this book was perfect for these two characters. Its takes them a while to get there but once everything fell it place and they fully embraced what they felt for each other , you could definitely see without a doubt that they were perfect for each other. I loved the paranormal aspects of this story ,I was absolutely fascinated with the shadow hunters and the werewolves. Debbie Herbert creates a sexy , action packed , thrilling paranormal romance that had my eyes glued to the page . I cannot wait to get my hands on what Debbie Herbert writes next. If you love all these things in your books I suggest you get a copy when it comes out January 1, 2017.
*I received a complimentary copy from the author and voluntarily provided a review*
Tallulah has been my favorite character from the first book in the series. She comes off abrasive at best, but I get her. Honestly, I don't know that I've ever found a character that I could connect with so well. Heartache and trauma has turned her into a different person; one with a rock hard exterior that's almost impossible to break through. But, when someone special comes along and takes the time to chip away at the ice, there's an impossibly kind and vulnerable soul at the center. In comes Payton, crazy as all get out to take on the task. He has his own past, of course, complete with a paranormal secret that threatens any semblance of a normal life. Together, they are able to tackle their demons, and take down the bad guy. Somewhere between the bickering and banter, sparks fly. I loved their relationship. It was realistic, endearing, and frankly, hilarious. Another fantastic read from a supremely talented author!
This is a great series! Tallulah when she lost her Bo felt she'd never love again. Payton was taken in by his pack when he was young and feels he owes them. When his pack arrives and starts work clearing land they meet. As they get to know each other Tallulah realizes that she's starting to feel again but a wolf's attacked her and killed a neighbor. Can Payton and Tallulah trust each other with their secrets and their hearts?
What a great story with such a strong couple. Both know what they want, or what they thought they wanted, but when they meet realize that what they want isn't what they need. I enjoyed watching the 2 grow from singular characters who think they only need the life they have to a couple that realize that's it's okay to love to want something different then they thought. The story is about them but the other Shadow Hunters are there and very important to parts of the story. If you haven't read the other stories you can still enjoy this book but I recommend reading the others as they're awesome also.
OMG, This book and this series, Debbie Herbert knocked this out of the park, grand slam all the way...I am even trying to bribe her into expanding the series, I want more.....Debbie's writing style has you totally engrossed into the book by the 2nd or 3rd page....This series has a little bit of everything in it, Paranormal, Fae, Choctaw folk lore, a little woodoo, romance, and even a mention of mermaids....In Bayou Wolf Tallulah who is broken hearted and has been mourning her dead fiance for a couple of years, meets Payton and the sparks fly, sometimes the hottest passion burns from pure dislike of a person....I don't want to ruin the story for you, but seriously this is a must read....Thank you Debbie Herbert for sharing this amazing story with your readers....My favorite series of all time....
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book. Tallulah Silver is the only female shadow hunter in the Choctaw tribe and is struggling to handle a loss that almost destroyed her. Payton Rodgers is a werewolf who devotes his life to protecting the pack, but when mauled bodies are found in the bayou he starts to think she might be right and that they were caused by a wolf. Can Tallulah risk opening herself up to love again and where will Payton decide his loyalties lie?
This was a lovely story about a dangerous situation all mixed up in a sweet love story. Well written and containing it's fair share of drama.
I voluntarily and honestly reviewed an ARC copy of this book and received no compensation. I must say this was NOT my grandma's harlequin romance!!! Bayou Wolf had a great romantic vibe but by no means was that it! A great story line with characters who are flawed in realistic ways , a mystery to make you think and a paranormal aspect that's believable . I thourghly enjoyed this book with its perfect mix of more than one genre. As a prolific reader(5-10 books a week) I highly recommend this book it's a good one with substance in a book world full of fluff!
