Primal fear, passionate love, and a vile curse…

While in the thrall of an unscrupulous Bavarian lord, Lucien Howe’s mother absconded with his inheritance. Determined to recover her and his money, Lucien makes his way to a remote manor house, only to be surprised by a lavish party and the lord’s striking son. Despite using his paranormal skill to read clues from objects, Lucien can’t determine where his mother has gone. When he is caught and accused of stealing, Lucien ends up captive to the mysterious baron.

With his mesmerizing eyes and skilled violinist hands, Baron Viktor von Reichenbach doesn’t need chains or prison walls to keep Lucien enslaved, not when he awakens Lucien’s passion. In sharp contrast, the baron has also awakened a primal fear; Lucien believes Viktor is a werewolf.

If Lucien can’t free himself from Viktor, will he end up with the same vile curse, or will he sacrifice his very life to save a wronged man?

This erotic historical paranormal tale has been rated spicy with more story than sex. It’s written in the style of Dickens but, like, with hot gay guys. Originally published as Viktor (Curse of the Werewolf) this story has been updated and expanded. 34,000 words or 136 pages.

When he’s not plotting world domination, Bruce Rose is usually plotting gay romance novels. If he’s not writing hot man-on-man action, you might find him trying out new recipes, listening to old 80s rock, or putting his Star Wars action figures into provocative poses.

I received an ARC copy from the author in return for an honest review.

This was not as satisfying for me as other of Bruce Rose's stories I've read. I would have to say, it's more me, not so much the story. It's set in Bavaria, in the time of King Ludwig the second. I know almost nothing of that historical period and historicals are not a favorite of mine n the MM genre. Neither is paranormal or werewolves. However, this is a very different twist on werewolves. I just wasn't able to connect with this one much. The setting and mood was conveyed well. I could visualize some elaborate home set in the snowy, forested mountains. I could easily see cold, aristocratic Viktor and elegant, fussy Lucien. It was a pretty strange story though. I found it sort of confusing with the odd paranormal elements. It did have some sex scenes which were fiery but they didn't have very much appeal for me in this context. I didn't dislike it but I didn't like it a lot. I think I'll stick to his more contemporary offerings.

What a lovely sexy and romantic story. The title feels a bit like the classic Hammer film with Oliver Reed, and in a way, it's like it but with a HEA.

We have a werewolf curse, the idea of the right person who might be able to save the day, and the lush setting.

In this story it's Lucien, turned 21, hunting his mother who's ran off with his inheritance before he came of age. Worrying because she disappeared after marrying a Bavarian Baron, he sneaks into the baron's home to be first caught buy the mesmerising gaze of his son, and the man's talented violin playing, then captured literally, when the young Baron Viktor finds him rooting through his stuff.
Both Lucien and Viktor are hiding secrets.

There's a good dose of hot man-on-man-action, romance, intrigue and danger.

More Paranormal Victoriana por.. um, erotica please lol."

Curse of the Werewolf

🥵

Grabbed me from page one and wouldn’t let go. I usually don’t read historical books because I don’t care for them but this one was amazing. Although the paranormal angle may have something to do with that. Or, it could be Bruce’s fantastic writing. Either way, I enjoyed it immensely.

Highly recommend.
