With her BFF and ex-lover now happily engaged to the man of her dreams, Anuli Okoro is left to her own devices. She's happy for her best friend. But she's accepted that there can never be a fairy tale ending for her. She's too damaged to ever fit with anyone else. So she's getting on with her life the only way she knows how.
Until she pushes too far and lands herself in hot water. Or rather in cuffs and chains, captive to an annoyingly sexy man who sees the darkness inside her and isn't fazed by it. Fighting him doesn't work because he seems to know her too well. Seems to know how to make her beg for what he can give her.
But she'll be damned if she'll let another man control her. The only option is to escape his infernal contraptions and run, before he totally consumes her.
As a lover of romance novels, Kiru wanted to read stories about Africans falling in love. When she couldn’t find those books, she decided to write the stories she wanted to read.
Kiru writes sensual stories featuring African characters whether on the continent or in the Diaspora. When she's not writing you can find her either immersed in a good book or catching up with friends and family. She currently lives in the South of England with her husband and three children.
Kiru is a founding member of Romance Writers of West Africa. In 2011, her debut romance novella, His Treasure, won the Book of the Year at the Love Romances Café Awards. She is the 2015 Romance Writer of the Year at the Nigerian Writers Awards and 2017 Author of the Year at the Ufere Awards.
This story started out as my fave of the two books I've read in the series. The story line is great! The characters are great! Tope is a controlling, aggressive, alpha dude whom I loved instantly. His brand of discipline is bananas! It's exactly what Anuli needs.....
As strong as Anuli and Tope's feelings are for each other, why bring someone else in the bedroom? I opted to skip chapter sixteen, the ménage scene, as I felt it was unnecessary. It also made Tope and Anuli's relationship null and void. At least in my eyes. Total artificial.
Loved it. Held me in very suspenseful. This was a great read. I enjoyed the characters could relate to Anuli. This had so much suspense and was really hot. Kiru did amazing with this. 5 stars Would recommend it.
Ahem! So, I've read a lot of menage stories, but they've been mostly like porn movie script, useless.
But Kiru went at this story like any other romance story. I didn't see the menage coming and when it did, I thought it'll only be that one time. Imagine my slack jaws when it's more!
This is romance at its peak. Allow me to be proud that my first rounded menage novel came from a Nigerian and in Nigeria.
Thank you, Kiru, for an absolutely thrilling finish to this series. So many hugs and kisses to you.
This was an important story happening all over the world with childhood sexual abuse and sex trade. The love story within help you wrap your head around the coping and surviving mechanism victims go though to stay sane. However, this erotic love story was wonderful told with new found shared loves that keeps you reading.
This was definitely the more spicier book of the series but an amazing read nonetheless and yes hunny I enjoyed all the hott and sexy steam between Anuli, Tope and Bosco... Many women would love to have two sexy, strong and adorable men all to themselves... I truly enjoyed every book in this series and I can’t wait to read more from this author
My issues with this book are purely personal preference and I can see the book is well written with a good structure and well developed characters, however similar to book 3 it didn't really know what genre it wanted to be. I was expecting a dark read with it being called captive but it wasn't really that dark. I much preferred Anulis character in this story than book 3 but Tope comes across as stalkerish and possessive and not in a bad boy alpha way and not in a ooh dark read kinda way either (see doesn't know what kinda book it wants to be) so I didn't like the main male protagonist. Unlike Tessa, Anuli is strong and self assured but was easily subdued by Tope by a single spanking which made me lose a little respect for the so called I dependant woman. Like book 3 this book contains a lot of pidgin English which I have never heard before so I hail the book for increasing books from other cultures and making me aware of just how few ethnically diverse books there are but at the same time because it is so out of the norm for me I found it made me disconnect from the characters ...similar to watching a Spanish soup opera. The sex scenes are hot but contain sex that isn't my cup of tea (F/F and M/M/F) once again this is sex that is under represented in the erotic genre so kudos to the author but as I say just not my cup of tea (I'm not a fan of M/M either tbf) Overall a well thought out plot with a diverse cast of characters and definitely striving towards equality in representation of both sex and characters. I salute you Kiru but I probably wouldn't read any more.
Anuli is trying to move forward and accept that she will never find her prince charming. Anuli also has some demons from her past that she is dealing with.
Than she meets Tope, after a very hot and heavy evening he easily gets into her head. She needs to distance herself from him. Tope is a very dominant male and can see right through her. There is something about him that is dark, scary and intriguing.
What kind of man agrees to kill another for you? What kind of man will commit murder for you?
When Anuli finds herself in hot water, will Tope and Bosco be able to save her?
This was a great suspenseful, and hot read. There are a few surprises and the secondary characters were great. If you like M/F/M you will like this read. The secondary characters were a great addition. We do get to see a HEA, which I was very happy with. Thank you Kiru Taye for a great read.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book. Reviewed by MAustin from Alpha Book Club
Two warnings about this book: 1. It’s not a stand-alone, although technically you could read it alone, but the book that precedes it gives the reader more clarity into Anuli, her life, and her motivations (and besides, Worthy was a great read) 2. It’s not a traditional romance. Ms. Taye categorizes it as erotic suspense. Now with those things out of the way, let’s get down to my review.
I didn’t realize this book would take me out of my comfort zone, but it did, and I am truly glad. The story was amazing. Anuli has lived the kind of life I wouldn’t wish on anyone. She’s survived it by being tough. She knows how to stand up for herself and how to get her pleasure.
The guy who holds Anuli captive is hot. Dominant in so many ways that it both excites and scares Anuli. He does have a secret that makes me ascribe the term “interesting” to him. When I learned it (which I won’t share with you) I read the next few pages in a state of shock. It turns out that what Anuli got from him was precisely what she needed.
Although the book is not a standard girl meet boy, etc. romance, the romantic elements which pulled at my heart strings was strong. In the end, all I really wanted was for Anuli to be happy.
If you have ever read any of Ms. Taye’s novels, then you know she can pack a punch into any tale she tells. Captive was no different.
