I'm an animal, exercise and tea enthusiast--I drink tea like a Gilmore Girl drinks coffee! I graduated from Sydney University with a Bachelor of Animal and Veterinary Bioscience, was an elite swimmer during high school, and love nothing more than curling up with a good book, a cup of tea, and my cat, Batman.

I'm currently working on Starlit, book two in the Reigntime Series, which will be out early 2018, as well as the third book in the Reigntime Series, and another series all together! Oh, and I'm studying my Masters of Information Studies too, which is fun, but being back at uni is a slow and seemingly endless torture... But enough of that!

I live for fantasy in all forms, and also adore scifi, paranormal and historical, preferably YA and NA, but I do love a ton of adult books as well =]

My rating system:

(Note: If I rate a book 1.5, 2.5, 3.5 or 4.5, then I'll always round up).

1 star: It was either a DNF, I really didn't enjoy the story, or found the book to be offensive in some way (though not a whole lot offends me haha).
2 stars: I didn't enjoy the book, but it had some redeeming qualities.
3 stars: I liked it, but didn't love it.
4 stars: I reeaally liked it, but it won't consume my life like HP, Outlander, GoT, ACOMAF, The Raven Cycle, and Red Rising...
5 stars: This book is everything!!! Usually 5 stars are reserved for books that make me feel every emotion, with wonderful writing, and are both character and plot driven.

If you admire J.K. Rowling, George R.R. Martin, J.R.R. Tolkien, Diana Gabaldon, Sarah J. Maas, Pierce Brown, Maggie Stiefvater, Leigh Bardugo, Mackenzi Lee, Brandon Sanderson, Jay Kristoff, and Jim Butcher, then we'll get on like a house on fire.

3.5 STARS

Thank you so much for S.K Levy for prividing me this book in trade for honest review...

This book is a type of magical realism/Fantasy genre and a good start for a series.. i put the things i like and dislike about this book

What I like:
- It spoke about grief and lost which i felt very related cause i also lost someone so dear in my life and it was really hard to completely move on
- The Idea about Reigntime creatures and magic and enchantments and spell and reincarnations are very unique and interesting
- Australia! this book took place on Australia and it also so fun to learn some Aussie slangs and there were so many beautiful places that make me want to visit this lovely continent
- The writing style was fun and easy to understand

What I Dislike:
- The slow pace.. it felt kinda dragged on the beginning until probably half way through the book
- Lexie the main character 😅 i hate she lied alot to the people who care for her (such as her parents and bestfriends)
- The Insta love and romance.. im okay with Instalove sometimes but i think it needs to be built more cause Lexie and Myall barely know each others even speak for each others

afterall i will definetly going to continue read the sequel cause i want to know what happened next to Lexie and Myall.. the ending was amazing

Reigntime is the story of Lexie Taylor, a seventeen-year-old student nurse who is emotionally broken due to the death of her older brother.

Her assignment to the Huntsman, the viper of the nurses, makes her practice like living hell.
However, a mysterious man, Myall, is hospitalized and unexpectedly, Lexie starts to look forward to going to work and to be happy again.

As Lexie begins to trust him, Myall reveals his secret: he is a Reigntime creature, a magical and immortal being from the Awakening—who would die if he remained in hospital.
Lexie decides to risk everything and to help Myall despite all the dangers that might await them.

In my opinion, it is a little bit risky to read a book of a new author because you do not know if you are going to enjoy the story or to like the way the author writes, but Levy surprised me.

I found Reigntime really interesting and it was very well structured. Every creature had a meaning and I did not feel any lack of explanation.
As Lexie was as new as us in this world, I discovered slowly every detail of it. Even if I felt lost with some names, I had a glossary at the end of the book in which everything was explained in-depth.
I also tried to learn the language “Reignish” which was complicated to pronounce but, thanks to the author, I could easily understand how it worked.

This story was a roller coaster: I felt from sadness, angriness and anxiousness, to joy and expectation.
I love that the story is located in Australia. It is an unknown country for me and I am looking forward to visiting it.
My favourite scene is, undoubtedly, the water scene. I am sure all of us have once dreamt something similar, pure, beautiful and magic.

Regarding the characters, I could get close to Lexie and be involved in the story, because all the feelings and thoughts were perfectly described.

Myall, the mysterious guy, was really interesting and I would like to know more about him and everything related to the Reigntime creatures.

I have to admit that this story slightly reminded me of Twilight and, although the author twisted the plot at some point, I could still find some similarities.
Even so, the story was AMAZING. AMAZING. AMAZING.

I rated this book with 4.5 stars.
If you want to further discuss this book, let me know!!
Seriously, I FULLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK TO ANYONE! I cannot wait to read the second book of the series and learn more about Myall and Lexie.

3.5 stars — to start my review, let’s talk about how much I loved the setting! Being from the US, it was someplace that I am not familiar with at all. Maybe one day I’ll have the chance to visit. Anyway, I appreciated the locations and the lingo, and I feel like I learned a lot.

I also really love the thought and creativity that went into creating the world of the Reigntime creatures. It’s so intricate and detailed, so call me impressed! I felt that sometimes too much of the book was information though.

I also always enjoy a non-human-creature-struggling-to-understand-the human-nature story, so I liked Myall’s character. His cluelessness about Madonna and all things “human” made me giggle.

That being said, I found the story a little bit too slow moving and low-stakes for my personal taste. I thought the beginning half of the book dragged a lot and while the end was a bit more exciting, I just wanted a little more. Plus, the insta-love was a little too much, too fast. They barely knew each other before they were proclaiming love.

Overall, I’m glad I read the book. Thank you SK for sending me a copy for review!

*This review will have some spoilers*

The story is about a seventeen year old student nurse named Lexie who is dealing with some rough things while trying to figure out her When she's assigned to her very first patient, who is odd and uncooperative, she finds herself being drawn to him. Myall was finally able to break through her shell and remind Lexie what is like to be happy. With Myall being a Reigntime creature things become very complicated and dangerous for Lexie.

I absolutely love this book to pieces! It has some action, some mystery, pretty funny moments, and some romance as well! It is a fantasy novel but that I found was pretty relatable. I found myelf being able to relate to Lexie because shes strong, independent, and stands up for what she believes in. What I loved the most about her character is that she tries to be the nice person but she does know how to bite if shes provoked. Myall is just amazing! I love him so much! He's shy, mysterious, and so kind to Lexie. I can't wait to find out more about him! We also have Lexie's best friend Jaime, who is goes through some rough times in this book but I'm so happy that he's recovered and that we get to see more of him because I LOVE him and Lexie working together!! I can tell he cares so much about Lexie and that he'll always be there for her when she needs him!

So the story is super interesting because it's set in Australia! You read the Australian slang and its sometimes confusing but I loved being able to research some and finding out the gist of what it means! It was something interesting that I haven't ever gotten to experience...well at least with the Aussie terms. Also S.K. Levy created her own Reignish language! Like seriously! How freaking amazing is that!!! I loved how everything that was in the story made sense and flowed so nicely together! I can go on and on about how much I love this world! The world building is AMAZING!!! Everything was described so well that I could picture everything with ease and thats something that I love when a good fantasy book gets the world building down to the smallest thing and that makes all the difference!

I felt a roller coaster of emotions while reading this book and I highly reccommend it to anybody who likes fantasy, romance, or just if you like to read!!!!

Sidenote: I actually have gotten the chance to know Sam(S.K. Levy) and shes super kind, down to earth, and the most sincere person I know! I first found out about Reingtime on Instagram and was drawn to it but once I became friends with Sam, this became something bigger and something I definitely wanted to be apart of!

So the first half i wouldn't say so slow but it wasn't what i was expecting which takes place mostly in a hospital. However things did get very interesting very fast after leaving. Lexie is doing he placement in a local hospital when a very mysterious strange is brought in. He refuses to talk to anyone besides lexie who realize hes isnt human. Lexie character is very emotional through out the book due to the recent lost of her beloved brother. Lexie and Myall, her mysterious patient, become very close very fast and must help each other survive. Myall reveals a dangerous and important secret to Lexie which throws her into an ancient and complex world no humans is suppose to know about. I felt Lexies frustration towards Myall as he is reluctant to reveal imperative information to Lexie which seemed to drag on for quite some time. It spans about half the book which started to get to the point of annoyance. The second half of the book was absolutely amazing! I love that the book takes place is Australia. I think this is the first book I've read that take place there and it was amazing! Australia is such an adventurous and gorgeous place i hope i get to visit on my life. Definitely excited to read starlit and see where Lexie and Myall story goes from here!

**Contains Spoilers**

17 year old Lexie Taylor is lost, things haven’t been the same since the death of her brother. She is spiraling further into herself when a new patient is admitted to the hospital where she is training. He is odd, uncooperative and gorgeous. He won’t eat or allow tests, all he seems to be interested in is Lexie, who squirms under his intense emerald gaze. He slowly opens up to her and she is faced with a whole new reality; Myall isn’t human, Myall is dying and she is his only hope.

Would you risk everything to save someone you barely know?

Lexie has decided: You would for love.

This books was enchanting! An amazing show of old magic being present in our time. S.K.Levy has done an amazing job introducing us into the world of Reigntime, its creatures, language and history. She has set up a world that flows with magic and intrigue, once you delve in you never want to leave. I found myself looking back on it long after the pages had come to a close.

The relationship between Myall and Lexie was beautiful, how it starts with them just helping each other to heal, and end up fall head first into an unexpected love. Lexie has made it her mission to save Myall, no matter what it cost her. Her task isn’t easy, she has challenges all along the way, and even after she saves him from the confines of the hospital her task is far from being accomplished. I love that even though they are in danger they still get to experience the magic of falling in love, making time to stop along their journey and experience some of Australia’s beauty.

I think that the characters are some of the best ever written. They are fictional and yet are drenched with a truth that is chilling and relatable. Lexie hasn’t had the easiest last year, her brother passed away and her family is still trying to heal. She is lost and closed off from herself, and yet she still has the strength to help others. Whether it be her best friend Jamie or someone she has only just met. Myall has been here since almost the beginning of everything, his lifeforce is his creations so he is in a sense Australia itself. He is weak and must depend on the grace of a human to save him. I'm not sure if that is what the author meant when she wrote these characters but it really speaks on the level of protecting the environment around us.

Being the first book in the series it leaves us on the edge, wanting more, wanting answers. What will become of Myall & Lexie? I look forward to finding out in the next book

Do you like high fantasy? Maybe completely set in a unique environment?

When I first started this book I thought it was going to be a young adult contemporary. I didn't have high hopes. Boy was I wrong!

SK Levy wove a tale so intricate and full of nuance that I was in heaven! The main characters of Lexie and Myall reached out and grabbed my heart and soul. This story was not just a great fantasy story, but one of adventure and romance. The setting in Australia and the correct usage of terms for the First Nations People's made my little PC heart happy!

The emotions that Lexie feels over the loss of her brother were so real that I found myself choked up. When her supervisor is unkind to her it is so accurate to what many of us have had to deal with in our secular jobs. She is an animal loving, open-minded person, who is compassionate towards her patients. In particular, the weirdo in room 106, who refuses treatment and to speak. Though just performing her duties, the chemistry between them is electric and a trust and friendship are born. I don't want to spoil the story anymore than I already have...but the adventure the two set out on is gripping and full of fascinating creation mythology. I can't wait for the next books in the series!

(Spoiler Alert!!!!!!! Couldn't help myself from mentioning some points)
This tale is like no other..A tale so unique and wondrous, it will make it impossible for the reader to keep the book down.
Lexie Taylor, a seventeen-year-old student nurse in tropical North Queensland finds working there hard having been assigned under the hospital's infamous "The Huntsman". However things start to turn rather interesting with the admission of a new "weird" so-to-speak patient. Lexie's baffled by his odd and uncooperative behaviour towards everyone. But she finds herself drawn to the enigmatic Myall, who, though does not cooperate with anyone else in the hospital somehow opens himself up to her and pours down such secrets which Lexie finds fantastic but believes him anyway.
As Lexie begins to trust him, Myall reveals he is a Reigntime creature - a magical and immortal being from the Awakening - who will die if he is kept in the hospital. Lexie is sure about 3 facts.
1. She needs to find a way to break Myall out of the hospital.
2. She is completely in love with him.
3. She won't ever lose anyone else (after the death of her older brother) again.
Lexie comes across another Reigntime creature who, she later understands from Myall, is extremely dangerous and is after them. They figure out their escape plan and soon transform it into action in which, they though had almost messed it up, was successful and they travel deep into the dangerous tropics of Kakadu.
Though they reach their destination after passing numerous obstacles and heal Myall, they both face the biggest threat of their lives - never to meet one another again after Myall's task is complete.
This book is very much captivating and the plots is fresh. It is like one always keep looking forward for something new, stories of vampires, ghosts and many more have been a constant topic for stories for years making reader guess whatever the events might turn out to be. But not in this tale. I am absolutely adding it to my favourite series and am waiting to read the next part of the series.

Can I start out by saying I desperately need to pre-order book 2? Yes? Okay. Let's go!

Who else is in love with this cover??

1. Characters: I think the main characters have a really unique dynamic, and I like Lexie- the female protagonist. She's strong and smart. 💗 Her best friend, Jamie, is a great side character, and I hope he's in book 2 more! I also really hope we see more of the mysterious Karmi in the sequel.

2. Setting: This story takes place in Australia which has all sorts of fun implications! The language, the land, even the food mentioned, is all a feast for the reader's imagination (particularly this reader, who has dreamed of traveling to Aus but hasn't made it there yet). The first half of this book is set primarily in a hospital, which definitely gave me the Grey's Anatomy vibes (in a good way). The second half... well I don't want to ruin anything for future readers...😉

3. Author's Writing Style: Sam's style was beautiful. Her descriptions were detailed enough to immerse me in the story but not so much that I wanted to skim over them (we've all read something overly descriptive and know how that can be!). The dialogue for the characters flowed well and helped move the story along at a nice pace. I will definitely read the sequel and would give any of Sam's other future work a shot as well.

4. Overall Rating: 4 Stars! This was an excellent start to what will be a very original series, and it definitely left me wanting more at the end. I recommend it!

Set in modern day Australia, we are introduced to Lexie Taylor, a student nurse completing a placement at a local hospital. She has a hard time at the hospital, being put with the worst nurse, The Huntsman, who just seems to hate her. However, a mysterious patient is hospitalized, and Lexie finds herself drawn to him. The novel follows Lexie as she finds herself and learns more about her world than she had ever known.

I haven’t read many books set in Australia, but this book has brought out its wonders and beauty. The Aussie feels had me right from the beginning, and I knew this would be a book I enjoyed.

The first half of the book was a little slow-moving, making it a bit harder to get into the book. However, it wasn’t boring, and was a great introduction to the book setting and background. The second half I absolutely loved, being packed with just the right amount of action and suspense. S.K. Levy’s style of writing is beautiful, as it was very realistic and I was completely immersed in the book. It had me thinking about the story long after I put it down.

The characters were amazing, and I especially loved Myall. As I was reading, I felt like I wanted to get to know him as much as Lexie did. Lexie was such a strong, independent character, and because the book was written in so much detail, I felt like I really understood her and her thoughts. Their relationship wasn’t forced, and they gradually got to know and learn from each other. There were many parts that really pulled at my heartstrings, and had my little fangirl heart leaping for joy.
However, I do think the book was a little too centred around Lexie and Myall. While this doesn’t affect the book much, I would have liked a bit more of Jamie in the book, as he seems like such a fun and interesting character. Although I have heard that book two will have more Jamie so I will be one happy reader.

Overall, I really loved this book, but now am anticipating what will happen next. Book two, I’m waiting for you :) So I would really recommend this book to anyone that likes YA, with a bit of Paranormal and Fantasy elements. And if you’re stuck on the Aussie slang, it’s all explained in S.K. Levy’s website. Go put Reigntime on your “want to read” list already!

*I would like to thank S.K. Levy for sending me a copy to review.*

Lexie Taylor is a relatable, animal-loving girl who has recently been heartbroken with the death of someone very close to her. She has shut everyone out, trying to ignore the grief that is trying so hard to break her down. During her first few shifts as a student nurse at a hospital, Lexie meets a new patient named Myall. Instantly she is fascinated by him, and and not long after they meet he tells her a secret that changes her entire view of the human existence. Set in the intriguing landscape of Australia, Reigntime is the story of Lexie, a seventeen year old nursing student who is suddenly thrust into a world she could never have imagined.

This is the first book in a series, so there is a lot of information packed in for the reader to understand the world these characters are in. S.K. Levy explains it all in such a well-written way though that it is easily understood, and she makes it exciting and leaves you wanting to know more of this great new reality Lexie is put in. Throughout the book, the relationship between Lexie and Myall is refreshing and intense. They help each other heal, one emotionally, the other physically, and without intending to, fall in love. The connection between them is electric, and the reader will be rooting for them from the beginning.

Reigntime has a lot of aspects in it that I found really fun and appealing. The author is great at giving just enough hints at the mysteries that keeps it captivating, and makes a great setup for the rest of the series. There is a lot of humor in this book too, I found myself laughing out loud on more than one occasion. The action had my heart racing, and I was having a hard time staying still in my seat. This book is a really fun read, I love the adventure in it, but it is also an emotional journey for Lexie and Myall.

I really loved this book. When I wasn’t reading it, I was thinking about it. Trying to figure out the reason why some characters were they why they were, and what was to come next. S.K. Levy is a very talented writer, creating a world that is both unique and compelling. I can’t wait to see what happens next.

I was given a copy by the author in exchange for my honest review.

This book took a little while to set up, but it was necessary for the world building and allowed the story to be thorough without being boring. Lexie and Myall's story was unique and interesting and in depth - a lot of research clearly went in to writing it. This is a subject that I think is important for Australian's and it was so beautifully written. I am so glad I read this book, and I cannot wait for the next one.

A sweet love story

A hunky creator being, underwater love scenes, and Aussie lingo? This beautiful book by S.K. Levy has it all! The sights and smells of the outback come alive throughout the story as we follow Lexie on an incredible adventure of loss, love, and danger. I was astounded by the amount of thought and detail of the language development and cannot wait for more in the next adaptation!

Reigntime by S.K.Levy

Rating: 4/5 stars

Synopsis
Lexie works as a student nurse and is assigned a new patient. She notices weird things about him and so she discovers more and more secrets of his, all while getting closer and closer.
And soon she helps him escape from the hospital.

My thoughts

…about the story

I love the story! It seemed so unique to me!
I liked the twists, which could really surprise me. It all seemed pretty logical and all important questions were answered, so you’re not sitting there with your head full of things you didn’t understand or that need an answer.
This book was never boring and gained speed in the last part, where it really became a book you couldn’t put out of your hand.

…about the characters

I liked the main character and Myall. He’s such a cutie! Honestly, how can one be so adorable?
So, while I definitely started liking Lexie. But I would have liked it even more if there was a bit more time and depth for Cormir (is that how it’s written?) and some other characters.

…about the world
I loved the setting! I haven’t read one book yet which is set in Australia, so this was a completely new experience for me!
All this history, this culture that was shown in this book, it was incredible! I especially liked it because it didn’t feel like an info dump but felt natural.
Sometimes I would have wished for a few more descriptions of the surrounding, but usually I could imagine the scenery very well.

…about the style

I liked the style; it was very nice to read.
It definitely conveyed the emotions in the right way. In general, I liked the descriptions.
The only problem I had, was with the language. Not always, but sometimes it felt a bit as if I read a lexicon. I liked it that you learned the pronunciation of the words immediately, but sometimes it was a bit too much.

So, this book is a perfect match for everybody who is looking for a fantasy-romance novel set in Australia!

"Love is a tormenting emotion. It was powerful and untrustworthy."

So OH MY GOSH you guys, I finished this book quite a while ago but needed some time to gather up all my thoughts. I have one word for you....

AMAZING

I am lucky enough to have become friends with Sam (S.K. Levy) and she is beyond the sweetest human ever! When I found out she had written a book I jumped for it! I had heard such good things about it, but what I didn't know is how much these characters, and this world would wrap me in! I could have easily read this book in one sitting but to be honest was so sad for it to ever be over so I tried to take my time. Sam is Australian so this book is filled with Australian lingo that I found was so fun, and it was so fun and made this story so much more unique! This book is also book one in a 4 book series, and I now CANNOT WAIT FOR THE SECOND BOOK!!

I'm going to make this a spoiler free review because it will make reading this book that much more amazing!

Here's a general summary though...

Lexie Taylor, a seventeen-year-old student nurse in tropical North Queensland, has been assigned a new patient and she’s baffled by his odd and uncooperative behaviour. But she finds herself drawn to the enigmatic Myall, who, for the first time since the death of her older brother, reminds Lexie of what it is to be happy.

As Lexie begins to trust him, Myall reveals he is a Reigntime creature—a magical and immortal being from the Awakening—who will die if he remains in hospital. Risking everything, Lexie smuggles him out, and together they travel deep into the dangerous tropics of Kakadu on a mission to locate the key to his survival.

So I could relate to so much in this book!! Lexie was a super relatable character and she wasn't your typical annoying wimpy protagonist. She was witty, and strong, and very brave. Her brother died from a disease that is recently very close to my heart so it hit home a bit but I absolutely loved that. Lexie's best friend Jesse was one of my favorite characters because no matter what was happening in the story, as crazy as things were getting Jesse was right by Lexie's side and had her back through whatever it was. Some of the other characters I however did not care for....*ahem The Huntsman lol ugh she was a wench. But she was a complex and interesting character that didn't make me turn away from the book when I was reading about her. Finally, we have Myall..... oh goodness talk about COMPLEX! I adored his character, he was a bit shy, and mysterious, and how much he cared for Lexie omg!!!
A tiny spoiler here...for all of you wanting to read this...just wait for Chapter 18!! ♥♥♥

I seriously want to talk about every single thing that happened in this book and fangirl like crazy but from someone who started this book with absolutely no spoilers I know it'll make reading this book so much better for you all!

HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!!!

[3.5 stars]
Before I am going to start with the actual review I’d just like to point out that the cover is such a soft material. My goodness what is it made of I have never felt a book like that!

Back to the topic. I truly enjoyed Reigntime yet decided to give it 3.5 stars. I’ll explain why in this review. First off I’d like to start with the writing style: I loveee the writing style! It’s funny, realistic and Australian. Yes. I have read about birds that I didn’t even know existed and probably would not want to meet in real life but I loved it. The landscaping was amazing I could literally see it even though I have never been in Australia before. It also made some bits confusing as I am not a native English speaker let along Australian, but that gave a special touch to the book. It felt way more different from the other books.

On to the main character: Lexie. I really liked Lexie, She is very realistic. She is not annoying at all an overall very relatable. I loved that she was quite witty. The way she interacts with people really spoke to me as well. She friendly even though not everyone treats her as right as the should. That points out that she is also very strong because it did not break her. That’s not the only reason why she is strong. She also is a little bit shattered by something else, however she kept going on.

The next character is Myall. For some reason I did not like him. I wish I could explain why but I just cannot. Something about him makes me dislike him. Besides I did not really feel the bond between Myall and Lexie. In my opinion the fell in love too fast, even though it wasn’t fast if you look at the time they have spent to ‘get to know each other.’ I basically missed the chemistry between the two, which was an important part of the plot.

The rest of the plot was okay. The book started of normal and in a humorous way (introducing the Huntsman) and the adventure itself was rather interesting as we got to know about the Reigntime creatures. It is impressive how much work S.K Levy has put into the Reigntime world. She actually invented a language for this book/series! How impressive is that! I really loved that aspect of the book! The ending was not predictable at all, I found some parts to be but the most important part (The ending) was not predictable and that made me very happy!

Last but not least is the cover. Now I’m not going to talk a lot about it because I’d like this review to be spoiler free and yeah the snake might be a spoiler. All I can say is that it fits with the story and it looks gorgeous. I love the simplicity of it and the snake really pops out of the white background! And the font is gorgeous!

If you are looking for an amazing world, with a mixture of a new world and our well-known Australia, an adventure with an unpredictable ending then this is your book! So far I haven’t seen any reviews about lack of chemistry therefore it might just be me so don’t let that stop you. Give this book a try and who knows! I’m very glad that I was able to read it. Thanks a lot again!

Reigntime by S.K. Levy could have been great, but it was OK. It took me a long time to read because nothing was really happening for the most part. I found the characters annoying and there was WAY too much talking. I mean, a character is on the verge of DYING and the questions keep coming. Come on! I guess this book wasn't for me is all. You might enjoy it if you like high fantasy/romance books.

*This book was sent to me as a free book by the author S.K. Levy in exchange for an honest review. The fact that it was sent to me will not sway my opinion in any way.*

“Myall looks up from Lexie’s lips into her eyes. ‘Are you scared?’ he whispered. ‘Terrified,’ she breathed. ‘Don’t be.’ ”

I wrote down some of my thought while reading this book and decided to include those in this review as well so I can make my point clearer for you (I hope).

The story is about Lexie Taylor and her ‘situation’. She is a seventeen-year-old student nurse living in Australia in North Queensland and finds herself in contact with a Reigntime creature. She is determent to help him get his health back and defeat the bad guys (or something…?)

The characters. Lexie is a person who seems to believe everything she is told. Sure, she questions some of the things she’s being told but not as far as I would expect in her situation. She doesn’t believe in God but she does believe in the Reigntime Creatures immediately…? Kind of weird.

Now onto Myall… So he’s hot. I get it. Let’s move on.

(Page 94… finally, something seems to be happening!)
(Page 104… oh no. Never mind..)

The story is something I’ve never read before. Not just what it is about but also the writing style. I don’t always like he/she books (love/hate relationship) but this book really only stuck with one person. It might have wondered of sometimes but not to the point where it became annoying. She was learning everything at the same time that I was because people told her this kind of information and she tended to think A LOT about what she had been told.

Also… There were A LOT of conversations. This did kind of put me off sometimes, when you’re reading a page of people speaking to each other and when you flip the page there is more talking! Some conversations were needed but a lot of them also seemed to be dragged out as far as possibly could.

(Page 108... at least she knows that she sounds ridiculous)

"His eyes, they softened. The green somehow morphing from the cold cur of an emerald to capture the supple embrace of a patch of clovers."

The writer sometimes seems to try too hard. This isn’t just because I didn’t understand half of the words the book started with such as: ‘vivacious’, ‘adamant’, ‘inertia’ and ‘fervently’ (maybe these words should be in your vocabulary but they weren’t in mine at the time). But also because of this quote that you just read… I just had to laugh when I read it, no offense but the patch of clovers just got to me.

I just quickly want to point out that the cover is so freaking SOFT! Like what even is this? I literally had people stroking it (yes, I asked them to do so) to confirm that I wasn’t going crazy. Another thing about the cover… You’ll have to read it to find out why there is a snake on there.

And there is a glossary… I don’t know really know what to think of that…

Lastly… I don’t know what kind of blood pressure monitors you have in Australia. But it kept saying ‘wheeling the valuable blood pressure monitor around. And on a cart and stuff.’ But blood pressure monitors are small and easy to carry… Please enlighten me if I’m wrong.)

This is a fantasy adventure with paranormal romance themes. Enjoyed the Australian setting with then a dive into a unique spec-fic world. Great characters and sometimes slow but well thought-out plot.

An amazing read! I'm not the biggest fan of Fantasy but this book is very unique! You can tell the author put in A LOT of work into it. The world building and character development are all so well done too. I love how the author is able to re-imagine Australia and its wildlife (with a slight twist) and produce something that's new and unique, something that you've never quite read before. I learned so much more than just the importance of friendship and love.

However, I feel like the story only revolves around Myall and Lexie. They're both very interesting characters but I feel like the story might have been more interesting if it involved more drama and angst. I thought their mini banters and flirty moments were cute at first, but it went a bit over the edge as the story progresses. There is also a bit of insta-love involved which made the relationship between the couple escalate and it's like watching two people advance from one stage to another without a stepping stone which... can be confusing. I was also quite bothered by the fact that there was way too little Jamie in the story. He seems like such a great character and I wish I knew more about him!

Comir was my absolute favorite character in the book. He appeared a bit over halfway through the book and at first I did not like him the slightest bit, but his callousness and devilishly good looks won me over. <3 I really REALLY hope we get to see more of him in the next book!
Action packed, romantic, and in a way very rewarding. This book might seem quite chunky at first but you don't even realize you're flying through it once you start reading it. I highly recommend this book to all you Fantasy fanatics. It's everything you could possibly want in a book. Mysterious creatures, God-like humans, intrigue and magic. Oh, do pick this book up already! <3

Thank you so much to the author herself for sending me a copy in exchange for an honest review!

Reigntime caught my eye for a few reasons:
1. the cover is stunning!
2. it is by an Australian author
3. it is set in Australia
I had high hopes for this book and was not disappointed.
Lexie is a young nursing student on placement who gets stuck with a sucky supervisor and a mysterious patient. That mysterious patient is Myall, a Reigntime creature. Both of these characters were well written and formed.
The plot was interesting, more so towards the end of the book, and the backstories fit in well with the "current" events. I do not often like the sob stories, but this was more a 'something bad happened and it hurts' rather than a 'something bad happened and now I cannot live my life' so I was okay with that.
The language Levy put together for this book was also interesting, though at times it did confuse me a little. Thank goodness for the glossary in the back of the book.
It is clear a lot of time and effort went into the creation of Reigntime and, for me, it paid off. I cannot wait for Slarlit (book 2) and hope to see both Lexie and Myall figure out a brilliant way to deal with what happened at the end of Reigntime... Read the book to find out what I am talking about here.
My little hiccups with Reigntime are due to personal preferences and not the quality of the book, which was amazing, so it definitely deserves 5 stars!

Original post from my blog here

***Warning: Could Contain some Spoilers***

In this book we have a 17 year old student nurse who is a bit lost because of the death of her brother. Then she got assigned to the viper of all nurses which makes her practice a like a living hell.

However a mysterious man with out a heartbeat is hospitalized. He is odd, uncooperative but who wouldn't admire the handsome face and stunning emerald green of the mystery man's eyes? Not Lexie.

So we have a story set in the wonderland of the wildlife of Australia. I didn't expected much from the book I am totally blown away. I learned a lot of new vocabs that I haven't encountered before and some animals I haven't heard of.

Sugar Gliders? How come I haven't heard of you before!?

I know about the platypus but sugar gliders? Note-to-self: update your wildlife books.

Anyhow, let's get on to the review.

Writing

The writing style in the prologue, I noticed it has a poetic sense. It took me a bit longer to read the prologue because I usually take time to read poetic style stories. I like to analyze and internalize, it's an old habit I got from reading too much Shakespeare for school.

I like how the author describe the physical appearances of each character in detail, not too much detail but enough for you to picture out. Also weaving a specific scene is like I am playing a movie on my head, those types of writing style I like, not vague and enough details to picture it out in your imagination.

The beginning of the story was slow paced but gradually increased a bit which is good. I am okay with slow paced stories but not to slow or I would end up sleeping on it. (I don't DNF books because I want all to have a chance ).

So writing style is good and can be improved more but I know the author will keep on blooming.

Characters

Here we have the main character, Lexie Taylor. I like her because she is character you can easily relate too. Usually in fantasy the main characters will eventually be a special snowflake but I like Lexie because she is special on her own without the special skills and powers. I kept screaming in my head 'Yes! Logical character, impulsive at times but still knows how think logically'

Next is 'Myall' it's not his true name or public name but I kinda like it even though it means something bad. He is very mysterious and when he explained to Lexie that he is not a human but a Reigntime creature and here I am like 'please not a Twilight moment, please! not that!' and good thing it was not as I read the book, I find Myall's character fascinating (like Lexie who was fascinated by him ) the more I dig in the more I want to know about Reigntime creatures and they're history.

Next is Belinda and The Huntsman. All I can say about these two, they're vile and viscous. I have an extreme dislike with bullies like these bitches and think they're so high and mighty too all. Gosh people with god-ish complexes. I don't like to involved in cat fights or confrontations but I would love to punch their faces.

Jamie is a good bestfriend, loves Lexie and wants to look out on her well being. I would love to see more of his character in the next book of the series.

Karmi, a healer and an old croc. Not much I can say but he is wise and follows the code. I understand why he told Myall to leave Lexie once he has done or found what he was doing in Wonga in the first place. For the saftey of their existence and also for Lexie as well.

Story/Plot

Story wise, it is good for a fist book in a series. Enough action and pace also made you want more and some questions need to be answered in the next book. There are some cliche moments but who wouldn't want some cliche moments? At least it's not the cringey cliche kind.

Overall impression

I love it! Lexie and Myall are precious!!!!!! AND I WANT THE 2ND BOOK RIGHT NOW!  and this book is worthy to get the physical one for my shelves hopefully I can get on in book depo after my long long long book ban (can't buy books until Christmas and I have other books to read first too. ).

So I highly recommend this book for Fantasy lovers.

I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review

Reigntime was being talked about all over bookstagram for a while last year and it piqued my curiosity. I was then sent a copy by the author a few months ago and couldn't wait to finally see what all the excitement was about. I didn't want to set my expectations too high though (in case it didn't live up to the hype like another book I read last year). The author was super sweet and I really really really wanted to like this book.

AND GUESS WHAT...

I LOVED IT! (Phew!) xD

description

Okay, so let's get to the usual way I do things.

The Issues:
1. It took me a while to get the hang of all the Reignish words (Loved the word list at the end of the book. That honestly helped a lot)
2. It was a little slow in the beginning (but once the pace picked up, it was awesome!)
3. Not really sure if people can fall in love that fast (but then again this was something different so I applaud the author for giving us something new)

The Good Stuff:
1. This author can write! Loved, loved, loved the style of writing and the vocabulary! My favorite type of book is one where I can picture what I read in my head. This beautifully written book let me do exactly that.
2. I'm so glad it wasn't just another cliché YA fantasy novel. The story was so unique!
3. I've never been to Australia but after reading about how beautiful it is, I can't wait to visit someday!

description

4. The characters were well-written. The author made me love the heroes and feel pure hatred for the villains (ha ha!).

description

Random thoughts:
This would make a great movie! I would love to see this come to life. And I can't wait to read the next book! The last couple of chapters were amazing! Thanks again for the book, Sam!

Overall impression:

YOU NEED TO PICK THIS UP! Seriously. It makes you laugh, cry and feel all the feels

Synopsis: Lexie Taylor, a seventeen-year-old student nurse in tropical North Queensland, has been assigned a new patient and she’s baffled by his odd and uncooperative behaviour.

But the dangers that await them will give Lexie a death sentence of her own...

Review: I really couldn’t get into this book. It had a good premise but the writing didn’t work with my brain. I had to DNF around 20%.

Verdict: DNF-ed but it seems great!

The writing is beautifully sound and pulls you into this enchanting world the author has invented. The magic in this story is so unique and the descriptions of Australia and the characters were to die for. I flew through this book and found it a refreshing take on paranormal romance, especially admiring the strength of the main character to fight for herself and stay strong in the face of despair. I was also particularly fascinated by the creativeness behind the Reigntime creatures and their history. Magic like theirs is something I’ve never read about before, so I was drawn to learn more about them. The Australian phrases and lingo were also a plus!

Lexie is a normal nursing student just trying to get through her rotations... until a good looking, mysterious man comes to the hospital. Soon, Lexie is the only one who can talk to Myall - an ageless creature from prehistoric Australia.

The book was a very good read - easy, action packed. It was a little formulaic, but was able to reach beyond the formula. I would have liked to see Lexie's character develop faster, but this is the first book in the series.

*I got this book through GoodRead's Giveaways - an excellent source of interesting books!
