Depending on an Elemental Warrior is the key to her survival… and maybe more.

Brooke Simmonds moved to the isolated mountain town of Topaz Ridge for three things: A position as senior designer at the local paper, money in the bank, and complete independence. The day she gets everything she’s been working towards, her life goes up in flames. Literally. Her rescue is a haze of pain and smoke, but she remembers him, the handsome stranger that carried her out of the blaze. Are her memories clouded by smoke inhalation, or did she really see him manipulating the flames to save her?

He’ll either lose his control, or his heart. Or both.

Levi takes an instant liking to Brooke, whose smile makes him burn hotter than the fire inside him. When her apartment building bursts into flames, he springs to the rescue. As one of the elite Elemental Warriors sent here to fight the forces of Chaos, he’s got the power to do it. His control however, is… unpredictable. He gets her to safety, but not before revealing himself for what he is.

When the enemy turns their sites on Brooke, she’s sucked into a world, and a war, she never knew existed. Now, she’ll have to depend on Levi to help her navigate this new world whether she wants to or not. The burn between them is undeniable, but will it be enough to help them conquer their foes, and their differences? Or will they both go down in flames?

This book seriously had me laughing then sobbing...for real!!!

Levi has got to be one of the most charming and loving characters EVER!!! You immediately like and he is very easy to fall for.

Brooke, is a bit more complex and has some serious "daddy issues" but in the end she makes a perfect match for Levi.

I've a couple different elemental type romance books but this one is really VERY different in it's own right. The idea that elementals are from a different dimension fighting chaos in a human form is REALLY forward thinking and I really think that it works in such an amazing way.

I really look forward to reading the next book...hopefully Ajax stops being a total asshole to everyone..lol!!

My Disclaimer: The author offered this book to me in exchange for a read and review. Once I'd read the first book, I had to have the second one and purchased it on Amazon. This is my honest review for which I am not being compensated in any way. All opinions are fully my own.

My Review:

I reviewed Ice Hot last week, and that was the prequel to this series. Ice Hot was really quite innocent compared to Burn. Burn lives up to its title in a couple of ways. It's a really hot guy in the starring role. He plays with fire, literally. And when he and his lady get together, the whole world seems to go up in fire.

Have you ever wondered how authors come up with the combination of words that make up the stuff we love to read so much? I kept stopping and thinking about that in this book and the next one. How did Jayelle know that these were just the right words to create that picture in my head? I've always wanted to be an author, but I just can't put words together like that. Plus, I don't have any stories in my head. Ms. Morgan doesn't have either of those problems. She can put words together in such a way that you feel the heat, all of it! And this book certainly has its share of heat.

This series reminds me some of the Black Dagger Brotherhood by J.R. Ward with the hot, powerful ancient warriors and their women. Hhmmm, do you suppose Ms. Morgan can come up with a few more of these delicious warriors? I strongly recommend Burn, book one in the Elemental Hearts series to any of you who like strong, magically talented warrior-types who also seem to have a sensitive side and just want to fight, make love and peace.

My Review:

Well, Ms. Morgan found another story in her head and plenty of words to tell it really well. This book had plenty of those moments that had me thinking about where authors find those words to combine to create just the right feeling or mental image. I could picture Ajax with the serum on the ends of his hair! And I was laughing!

The moment that stayed with me out of the whole book was the closeness created when Emory was lying in bed and Ajax brought Jackson back to bed in his clean diaper and pjs and tucked him in next to her and climbed in so the baby was cuddled between the two of them. The way Jayelle wrote it, I was able to see it and almost feel it. I was such a strong visual image for me that it has stayed with me still. Yet she can do fighting with knives cutting into flesh with the best of them. I like it that the Elementals heal quickly, though. Only Micah ever needed medical attention. Emory stitched him up while he held Jackson and sang his rumbly earth song to him.

Another thing Ms. Morgan is really good at is conversation. She writes it the way people speak. It's not stilted or awkward. It flows and stumbles just the way it does coming out of your mouth. Cuss words and all. LOL! It's not excessive, it's just the way it is in life. Some people do it more than others, some not at all.

I think I liked Rise even more than Burn. Maybe it was the baby aspect of it. These big strong guys dealing with the baby was pretty cool. Each one went gooey!

Now, I'm waiting for Micah's story. There's also Walker, the boss. I'm sure he has a story. And there are other bases for sources. If we all buy and read enough of her books, I'm sure we could convince Ms. Morgan to keep on writing these stories. I'll bet she's got lots more in her head! So, go get your copies of Burn and Rise today and write your own reviews so more people will hear about her books!

Didn't like heroine

Lovely series but this introduction had a female I thought was just plain dumb Brooke rescued from a fire by a handsome man covered in flames trues to find him via a newspaper report. In time they meet, he tells her he is a warrior to protect her, with fire in his eyes he shows her he can toss flames in his hands, using his finger he lights the cooker. She sleeps with him and the next day he is called back by his boss, to another realm. Telling Brooke he has to leave to another realm and will be back soon She DUMB GIRL screams You are not human, you are a monster. What didn't give him away. She shows no strength of character and seems weak willed with nightmares, where she needs comforting and needs constant body guarding. A happy ending and am sure the other heroines in this series aren't so silly. A good author but you can't always love the characters portrayed.

Mediocre

Found this a challenging read to get into, didn’t flow nor did I find an6 if the characters endearing. Eventually started skimming it in the hope it would pick up, it didn’t.

This book's one redeeming fact is that it takes place in my home state of Nevada. The rest of the book was just so tough to get through. The characters were poorly written and the story line was hard to follow. I have no interest in continuing the series.

Jayelle Morgan is a new-to-me writer; the first book this reader read was a paranormal romance titled "Burn", about elemental warriors protecting the Earth while saving their own dimension as well. Characters were described well enough to easily visualize, for the most part; however, the antagonist group, the 'Chaolt's', were not quite so easily envisioned with a description of looking almost human but not quite. One Chaolt that played a semi-prominent role was Charlie, and Morgan could have taken the opportunity to describe him more fully without causing too much of a break in the action.

It needs to be mentioned the way hero Levi introduced himself to protagonist Brooke, all because she had smiled at him... while this reader prefers not to give away spoilers, the unexpected dancing comment made me laugh out loud, appreciate Levi's confidence and hint of vulnerability, all while garnering an inkling of the subtle comedy that would be involved in the tale. Levi and Brooke made references to Levi's introductory comment throughout their story, showing his earlier remark had made an impression on both of them, as well, and was actually a small guiding line to these two character's growth. There were a few minor grammar, spelling and punctuation errors found, mainly towards the end of the book. Dialogue was believable and fairly unique to each character. Morgan wrote with a steady and inviting pace, building not only the action, but the sensual heat between Levi and Brooke, culminating in tantalizing sex scenes and a satisfying ending to this adventure - while never ending the war between the Elementals and Chaolts.

Jayelle Morgan is a talented storyteller bringing alive a tale with somewhat unusual characters while setting the stage for an interesting, fun and sexy series. It gives this reader pleasure to recommend not only Morgan as a writer, but this series she is gifting the reading world.

Characters
I loved Brooke most of the time and I liked Levi nearly all the time as well. I LOVED THEM TOGETHER. They brought out each other’s good traits and even with the mistakes and the stumbling around they were great. The author did a great job weaving them together and the secondary characters made it even better. You like their whole team as much as you like Brooke’s boss. Very likable support characters

Plot
This book had an interesting concept that the author carried through on and it did not disappoint. There are warrior elementals, action, thrilling moments, and smoldering romance. It was predictable and sometimes over the top but it worked. I honestly normally hate clichés or stuff that doesn’t make sense (like let’s not arm the defenseless one at all and take her to a really dangerous place where we might be outnumbered). I am still struggling with how I loved this execution as much as I did. The author obviously has talent!

Overall
This author’s writing was easy to follow with a voice perfect for romance. Romances are normally a little ridiculous at some point, it is just part of the territory, but so few authors can pull it off. This one does. I was excited to have time to read more and I put off other books to finish it. I rarely became annoyed with the characters or the circumstances. I enjoyed just about every minute of the book. This book can standalone but I want to read another one. I’d read the second book in a heartbeat.

Rating
5 stars
This paranormal romance balances action and suspense perfectly with romance. At the end of the day it is romance but it is romance with a decent plot and likable characters.

Fire and Water

This standalone series opener features elemental warriors from another dimension. Their job is to find and protect Erratics, humans with some elemental traits, from Chaolts, who use Erratics to bring about disasters that kill and destroy. The event also kills the Erratic used by the Chaolt. There are four elementals in the area of northeast Arizona near a portal, and they seem to be fighting a losing battle against the growing number of Chaolts. With the future of humanity hanging in the balance, they can afford no distractions. Especially Levi, a fire elemental with control issues. But when he meets Brooke Simmonds, a graphic artist with the local newspaper, he can't get her out of his mind. Then there's an explosion where he last saw her, and smoke, and before he knows it he's running into a burning building to save a woman he just met. A woman that's destined to draw Chaotics. Because Brooke is a water Erratic, one with growing power.
This is a great KU library read.

Whimsical adaptation to our four elements with beings not quite human and from another dimension. Does it matter? Not when you see they are here to keep Chaos from destroying the human race and the world as we know it. And then there was "fire"....so Levi brought more than a little heat to Brooke's life. A chance meeting turns into so much more, and Levi is there to save Brooke from certain death. However, she remains in danger, She is what Levi and his people call an Erratic. Such a play on words to describe those being used by Chaos to bring about their nefarious plan of destruction. Our Elemental guys aren't suppose to get personally involved with the humans. Tell that to the heart that protects and finds it's other half.

I thoroughly enjoyed this read and new author so much that I can now move onto "Rise" in this series knowing I'll love it too.

Elemental Protector Warriors OVER 18 READING

Levi is a fire elemental, one of four (earth, air, water are the others) sent to earth to protect it .Brooke carries a water gene so she is allowed to know about them when Levi finds her just before she is attracted the first time and she saves her life from the fire that was set by the ones they are on earth to stop. He knows Brooke's power must be drained so she will be safe. Their time together is filled with new discoveries, danger, and yes finally love. With the changes that take place in her they learn a new plan is needed , one that will allow them to be together so they can train her to use her powers as they grow stronger. A great first book in the series. I look forward to the other two.

Loved this book. I really enjoyed the Elemental world. Love the world and character development. I could completely imurse myself in the story and get lost there. Honestly I enjoyed this so much that I didn't stop to write my review. I jumped right into the next book in this series. I really liked Levi and all his human qualities even though he isn't human. Brooke was unique but familar, easily relatable. The relationship development between them was great and I loved the results of their bonding. The premise of the chaos is somewhat difficult to wrap your head around but quite intriguing. I definitely recommend this book and wii, obviously, be continuing the series post haste.

Burn

This was a paranormal romance. The beginning of a series. It's a good start with the world building of an alternate universe of elemental beings. They send their warriors to Earth's dimension to keep us safe. This book is about the man who is gifted with the element of fire and his protection of an "erratic". I look forward to reading the rest of the books in this series.

This is a new author for me, so I wasn't sure how I would like the writing style but I always give books a try. I did love this book, and I'm glad that there will be more coming out! Burn was a well thought out story, with just the right amount of action, paranormal, and romance. Three of my favorite types put together!

This is about the Elemental Warriors, who are tasked with ridding the world of chaos, or the Chaolts who use humans with elemental powers, called Erratics, to cause natural disasters. I have never read something with this plot idea, so this was very interesting to me and I was insanely curious about how this would all come to be. The Elemental Warriors protect the earth and making sure humans don't know of their existence, something that can get hard at this point.

Levi is the hero in this book, and he is a...

Levi is an elemental warrior sent to earth with his three team members to fight a war against chaolts. The chaolts use humans with latent elemental powers to start chaos in the form of natural disasters. Unfortunately, Levi has been having problems controlling his fire power, and is unable to stop a chaolt from starting an apartment fire. He is forced to expose his power to save Brooke from the fire, throwing both their lives together.

“He put a hand on either side of her head and held her still so he could taster her, teaser her. Inflame her, the way she did him.”

This was a fresh and enjoyable paranormal romance. I did find in hard to follow along with all the new terminology in the beginning of the book; however, it didn’t take very long to get fully invested in the story. I liked Levi and the other warriors the best. Levi’s control issues with his fire power have set him apart from the team and have caused some friction to develop. Yet despite this tension, they all have each other’s backs. Brooke at times did get on my nerves. For someone who wants to be a strong, independent woman, she acts pretty dumb sometimes. Especially in the beginning when she feels the explosion and hears fire alarms, but decides to stay in her apartment. I still enjoyed the book, though; it had plenty of action sequences interspersed with a great romance. It was a promising start to a new series, and I can’t wait to read more about Ajax and the other warriors in the upcoming books!

Burn is a super-sexy, riveting read: a must-read for fans of HOT romance and sexy paranormal love.

It's the first in a series about Elemental Warriors who use humans to cause natural disasters. Levi, one of these warriors who's struggling to control his fire power, falls for a human woman named Brooke. Even though any liaison between them is forbidden, he just can't resist her...

Jayelle Morgan's prose is also a delight: well written and elegant, with a great flow. There's some real poetry here too:

"Our days are marked by which new stars rise too, but none so close as yours."

The characters are developed and appealing: you'll empathise with Brooke as much as you lust after Levi. And even if you skip the sexy stuff (but don't!) there's a highly enjoyable plot.

Not forgetting a wonderful, romantic HEA!

I received this ARC book free in exchange for an honest review. Exciting start of a new series, I cannot wait until the next one. A woman lives her life believing that she is human and when she finally gets what she wants out of life, fate steps in in the form of a a very hot Elemental. He fights for the humans who know nothing of what he does, but lately his powers are out of control. Wonderful book.

I was provided this book through the 2016 NERFA Contest put on by the First Coast Romance Writers. I have not read or heard of this author until I was provided a copy, so I went in not expecting much. I was wonderfully surprised. I loved it. The characters are strong, the plot is well developed, the conflict is strong, and the passion was perfectly hot (pun intended). Brooke is a strong heroine and Levi is a passionate hero. The story had highs and lows, some humor, action and adventure, and some emotional turmoil that kept me turning the pages. I very much enjoyed this book and will definitely be keeping an eye out for a book 2.

I was happily engrossed in Burn for the better part of the day it took me to read it; it's a can't put it down kind of paranormal romance. Levi, an elemental being from another dimension, is sent to Earth to battle the forces of Chaos and to save the "Erratics" - humans with latent elemental affinity. Levi, whose element is fire, gets one look at beautiful Brooke, and nearly combusts with lust - and maybe something more. Oddly enough, Brooke isn't quite as smitten at first. Still, when Chaolts threaten Brooke, it becomes clear that she's an Erratic, and protecting her means Levi and his team will be by her side and on guard 24/7 whether Brooke likes it or not. Turns out Miss Independence does NOT like. Bit by bit, as the threat to Brooke increases and the elemental warriors are thwarted again and again, her opinion changes. The suspense in this novel is very compelling, the plot has some clever twists I will not spoil, and the sweet and steamy love story has a very off-beat HEA. I'm definitely gong to read the sequel!
