Quite the collection. I'm just sad that I wasn't able to acquire even half of what's available from the Daily Express.

This collection is a bit of letdown after the past few. I find two substantial reasons for this. The title Ian Fleming novel would not give comic strip readers what they want, a James Bond adventure, so writer Jim Lawrence tossed the first half of the book and created a new way of getting Bond to Canada. That is a pretty good story, but it is disconnected from the second half which adapts the second part of Fleming's novel fairly faithfully. It is not a coherent read. Lawrence is now out of Fleming material to adapt, so the second story here is his own. To comment that it is not very good does not mean it is bad, it isn't, but Lawrence creates plot elements that do not feel very Bond. The first portion of the story are essentially a comic book situation and as soon as we see that the head of security for an industrial plant is held incommunicado so Bond can take his place, anybody who knows cliched plots knows what will happen later in the story. This story does not feel like Fleming, but it does feel like a Bond film, especially the Bond films that followed this story when Roger Moore played Bond. This was once a great comic strip. It isn't here. I hope it will be again.
