I am gonna give it to Larue. The story had a very nice and action packed plot.
Sadly a few things drags it down.

1. The main character Grace was quite likeable in the beginning. She was taking no shit with being claimed and would have none of it and I was like YES, no crazy insta-love. (Now don’t get me wrong I don’t HATE insta-love, but it has to be made RIGHT). And then after Dekkir (her potential mate) gets sick because she denies the bond - BAM- she loves him. Bad insta- let me put it that way.

2. The cover. The cover is AMAZING! But it is not okay to put a blue alien on the cover and the aliens are very pale-ish white or bronze. Come on now.

3. I never connected with any of the characters and I am still really unsure of the feelings toward each other.

On the plus side, a lot happened. And I do think it was alright. The story was interesting enough, but Grace cried too much to make it enjoyable. I swear she cried for 30 % of the book. Not cool.

Will I recommend: No.

Hotness + Sci-Fi + Action/Adventure + Suspense = DekkirThis book was incredibly well-written. The story flowed smoothly and I was on the edge of my seat for most of the book, dying to know what happened next!Equal parts sci-fi romance, suspense, action/adventure, and smoking hotness, all balanced perfectly throughout. Add to that some plot twists I never saw coming and I got one heck of a story!"Finding true mates" is a favorite topic of mine, and this was certainly one of those stories! But, this was unlike any I have read because Grace wanted absolutely nothing to do with Dekkir! (She was pretty funny about it, too) This unexpected element of outright rejection really made this book stand out.The ending was fantastic, a HUGE Happily Ever After, and I hope I get to catch up with Grace and Dekkir in subsequent books.I am 100% on board with Lara and this series, and I'm ANXIOUSLY awaiting the next book!!!(I received a copy of this book in consideration for an honest review)

Tasked with coordinating a trade agreement with planet Lyra, Science Officer Grace Bryant finds her assignment made all the more difficult as the planet's inhabitants are ultra suspicious of all modern technology and aliens. However, with Earth struggling with increasing air pollution, massive overpopulation, and resource depletion, Lyra, with it's abundant natural resources is a valuable asset to partner with. If all else fails Earth plans to acquire the planet by any means possible.

Dekkir, War Chief and son to the planet's High Chieftain, is assigned as the planet's emissary for Earth's newest liason representative. He is responsible to assure Grace's safety throughout her visit. Problems arise when Dekkir actually meets Grace Bryant only to realize she's his one and only fated true mate.

Loyalties will be tested as Grace and Dekkir struggle to resolve cultural differences and fight for the ongoing sovereignty of Lyra.

* * *

New to me author/series. 167 page futuristic alien romance that incorporates multiple sub plots to compliment the main romantic suspense main plot.

While I appreciated the sci-fi fantasy, romance (with erotica content), suspense, action, adventure, angst, mysticism, intrigue, story line twists, villains, and climatic battle scene, it's these same elements that were problematic as a whole. Superficial with no real depth in the world building & character interactions came across as just that. A cute story that I couldn't take seriously. Also left too many questions that were left unanswered and/or dangling. I do see there are more installments to come in this series so maybe it was intentional. I guess time will tell.

As for the core romance between the main characters. I'm a fan of instalove, if it supports the situation and character profiles. There is a point in the story where Grace has to make a decision in regards to her future with Dekkir. A permanent life altering decision. Do I believe she made the right decision based on circumstances leading up to that point in the story? As I said above, it was a cute story.

The other notable problem for me was ... if this makes sense ... the male characters were depicted as I feel a female writer would want a perfect warrior grade male to act. All the attributes a girl would want in her hero with no pet peeves or idiosyncrasies. Seems to me that survival of the fittest on a planet such as Lyra would have definitely required alpha type behavior and personalities. Thus. I was waiting for a scene with some degree of pig headed behavior or an over the top dominating Dekkir, who was used to being in charge and in control, directing that same mindset toward Grace.

I do want to include that while it seems from my above comments that I didn't enjoy this story, I did, to a degree. I do feel that new entry fans of sci-fi alien romance will appreciate this book more than I did however because as a long standing fan of adult content sci-fi romance, I do look for more.

I was set to like Dekkir in spite of the other reviews and just because the plot seemed promising, appealing cover.
It has been awhile since I read an alien book and I enjoyed it, well besides Ruby Dixon's aliens.

I finally realized that it's not the high bar that Ruby Dixon has raised with her stories, plots, characters, world build, that stops me from liking and giving a higher rating to an "alien story".
What stops me is the author, in this case Lara Larue, and the story.

Here goes: the cover alludes to a blue alien and Dekkir was white, white hair, golden eyes. So, what happened? The "cover" people didn't get the memo or read the book?

Grace the anthropologist annoyed me from beginning and she hasn't stoped till the end. Her thought rambling was overwhelming. All that fear of being attacked, raped, bullied or whatever, because it happened in the past to some degree, put me off so bad that many times i wanted to DNF.

I powered through, skipped some "Grace pages" and moved forward, reluctantly.
So, Dekkir imprinted on Grace "like a duckling" (WTF i read?!) and half way through the story while he was suffering she was afraid of him or being touched by him. There was a lack attraction on Grace's side, not even empathy or the start of some feelings, even though she found him, good looking for an alien. Enter the medicine, the "magic pill" and Grace is suddenly attracted, in bed, horny and finally in love. Oh, and she was an empath. Say what?!? (scratch head)

At this point Lara Larue lost a reader. I finished the book by skipping pages (Grace pages again since Dekkir was much more interesting).
In the end the similarities between the Lyran world and Avatar are huge but there's no appeal.
I did not like Grace and her puffy hair with her fearful, child like thoughts. I did not like to way the plot unfolded, at all. There was no credible romance nor a credible attraction but a 'magic pill'. World build to a minimum.

I think I have said enough. Why 2 stars? Because the writing was OK-ish in spite of the story.
It is clear that I am not picking the rest of the books in the series and I cannot recommend the book.
I know others enjoyed it and can recommend it, hence the 4-5* reviews, I will stop here.

Fantastic world building! I read the latest one and had to start at the beginning because Lara Larue is quickly becoming a favorite of mine. With complex and endearing characters thrust into impossible situations, makes for an incredible read. Told from a refreshingly diplomatic point of view in this genre. Grace is an anthropologist sent to make contact and study the culture of an alien planet, humans hope to encourage trade with. Dekkir is the chieftain's son, and Grace's contact. With a dangerous landing mishap, Dekkir saves her from a deadly carnivorous tree and immediately recognizes her as his mate. But with Grace being human she lacks the awareness shared between the matched mates of his people. And the result of her unwitting rejection caused him to become physically ill.

Combine the guilt of that with an assassination attempt on Dekkir's father the chief, and an undermining plot to overtake the planet, and our hero and heroine have a lot to worry about. Including the deadly flora and mega fauna that inhabit the planet. Grace discovers the mysterious history of how the people and their overly aggressive environment came to be, and how it may be the solution to a dying earth.

Didn't like anything about this book.

This book seemed like a podium for the author to harp on feminism. I'm all for women's rights and respect, but I bought this book to read a romance story, not someone's personal views on sexual harassment, etc. For that I'd buy from a credible source who has researched the matter and can back up their work.

This one just wasn't for me. It felt a little too much like "Avatar". The instalove and lack of character and plot development was the deal breaker for me. At least it was offered as a kindleunlimited though.

Wow, what book was I reading compared to all the 4 to 5 star reviews? I struggled to make it to 46% before giving up, I should have done so much sooner. I don’t believe I would read more from this author after this sample of her writing. The flow was horrible. The plot is predictable. The characters are boring & not memorable. I felt Grace was too annoying & self-absorbed, we really don’t get much from Dekkir, other than he’s a fantastic warrior, physically sick from her rejection, & insatiable with sex once the relationship gets past her rejection. Also, from the physical description of Dekkir, he sounds like he’s almost white (a super pale) alien even with hair so light it’s almost white, nowhere did I read he’s blue anything, so why is the cover art a turquoise blue alien torso?

The story is full of holes. starting with time frames, how long was the point of time between everything, arriving at Dekkir’s home to the psychic interrogation to leaving on the caravan, when did the caravan arrive at its destination, how long were they at said destination before she takes that magic pill? This could have all taken place within days, weeks or months, whose to say. Then there are the other things, what was this about a month of training suddenly mentioned out of nowhere or even what for? Then there’s stupid things, like the creatures from the caravan sounded like giant apes or something, how did they carry the caravan, I’m trying to picture it, since the author left too much for the reader to try to imagine, was it on their backs or did they walk upright carrying it or what? At 46%, there wasn’t a mention yet if the king was saved or not. Then there are the questions about her so called new psychic abilities, she can feel the thoughts & emotions of people 2 floors below her if she’s not careful, but she can also hear her mentor who is on the planet’s moon, wow, stretching the distance a little unbelievably?! There was no solid description for too many things going on up to the 46% when I quit. I don’t want a “fill in the blanks with your own imagination” book, otherwise I could just become an author myself!

The emotional worries of sexual harassment or sexual abuse all because he sniffed her hair, held her hand a tad too long, & told the king (his father) that she was his fated mate were beyond ridiculous. She goes ballistic over that stuff, without giving a reader a justification for her extreme freak out, it came across as just lame over reacting on her part. I also got annoyed with all the time spent reading about her hair & hair care to keep it from going frizzy.

This Book is mind-numbingly bad, which is pretty unfortunate since the premise of a space travelling anthropologist performing an interplanetary field study on a race who've never encountered aliens before is a good one.
I won't bore you with nitpicking for all the little flaws in Dekkir, but i do have a couple of big complaints I'd like to share with the class.
A great example of my first issue appears in chapter one. It doesn't leap at you, but sort of trickles through the woodwork. You see, even when one of the two main characters is hurtling through the atmosphere attempting to land (but ultimately crashing) a shuttle, there is no sense of danger or urgency. Lara Larue found it more important to tell us about Dr. Grace Bryant's relationship with her coworkers than to expound on the action she's dropped us into. In fact much of the chapters told from Grace's perspective are simply Grace, thinking and talking about how she is not respected by this man or the next and how she stands against misogyny. While I appreciate an attempt to modernize the romance novel damsel in distress trope, this is more than a little grating.
Issue number two comes with Grace's profession. She has a doctorate in anthropology and has been specifically selected by the military to spend two years on a foreign planet studying the native culture and working to broker a trade alliance. Somehow, she ends up reaching Lyra's surface woefully unprepared, though we are explicitly informed her direct superior has already done some study of the Lyrans' culture as well as the planet's flora and fauna and that Grace spent almost two years preparing for this mission.
Along with the absence of Lyran specific understanding, Grace appears to lack an understanding of even the most basic fundamentals of anthropological or sociological field work. I don't claim to be an expert, but I took classes for both these subjects back in college and even I can tell you it is a huge no-no to bring your own cultural morals, values or mores into the study of another culture. Even if there wasn't a biological or psychic reason behind Dekkir's behavior toward her, Grace's reaction is entirely unprofessional. She is there acting as a diplomat and ambassador of the human race, taking this into context I feel like every word she speaks to Dekkir (the second most important political figure on his entire planet) would be grounds for immediate termination.
I feel like this book should come with an apology to anthropologists everywhere.

Dekkir by Lara LaRue is book #1 in the Galaxy Alien Warriors series. This is a fast-paced book that successfully balances romance with action. I enjoyed this story that blends sci-fi with paranormal elements.

It's the twenty-fourth century and Earth has become a near wasteland due to overpopulation, pollution, and man's general disregard for Earth's resources. Science Officer Grace Bryant is an anthropologist sent by Earth Military Command to the planet Lyra. Her mission is to study the environment as well as its people in hopes of forming an alliance between the two planets. But Grace's mission is derailed when she meets Dekkir, a Lyran warrior assigned to be her guide.

When Dekkir meets Grace, a primal instinct kicks in and Dekkir realizes that he has found his true mate. Grace is perplexed and put off by the war chief's sudden, intense interest in her. She just wants to do her job and doesn't understand why the sexy alien keeps sniffing around her. (Literally. He literally can't stop sniffing her.) Although the mating instinct is strong, Dekkir senses that he's pushing Grace away. He reins in his feelings, waiting until Grace returns his affection.

Grace is one tough cookie. She confronts Dekkir and he respects her wishes. Grace also stands up to her creepy superior officer, who won't take no for an answer when he pursues her against her will and tries to thwart her mission after she refuses him.

Meanwhile, although Dekkir agrees to back off, he's still basically lovesick over Grace. I found him rather endearing in his befuddlement over how to win her over. Dekkir is a warrior, but he's also a man of honor and wants to protect Grace at any cost.

I loved so much about this story: a headstrong, independent heroine of color and an alien hero who's equal parts lover and fighter. The only moment that gave me pause was when Grace is faced with a crucial decision and seemingly makes her choice very easily. I didn't fully understand her motivation at the time. However, this is explained more fully later.

While the story is filled with romance, it's also packed with action, including some pretty epic space battles and a cosmic conspiracy. Through it all, Dekkir and Grace grow more attached to each other and must cling to their newfound love in order to survive.

I recommend Dekkir and look forward to the next book in the series.

I received an advance copy of this book from the author.

A new trade alliance?

Grace Bryant is on her way to the planet Lyra. Her mission as a science officer to study the Lyrans and possibly help forge a trade alliance for the expleted resources Earth needs. Earth is vastly overcrowded , the soil poisonous, its inhabitants hungry. She's to stay for two years, her liaison, war chief Dekkir the high chieftains son. But things go wrong from the start. Her ship is snatched from the air by a carnivorous plant. The chieftain is poisoned , wivesith her being the suspect. Things continue to escalate , as if someone is purposely sabotaging her mission.
War chief Dekkir is on his way to meet his charge when he senses distress. The Lyrans are telepathic. He arrives , much to his chagrinn, one touch from Grace ignites a fire within him . He's met his mate in the form of this tiny Earth creature. He's baffled when Grace didn't feel the same emotions. But he belongs to a proud noble race. He'll not force himself upon her even as he slowly withers inside.
They (The Lyrans) have a proverb. Honeyed words often carry poison. So they're very suspicious of the true intentions of the Earth people. Turns out that everything is not what it seems.
The authors story kept my interest from beginning to the end of the story. An end that had me flabbergasted. I thoroughly enjoyed my journey to Lyra.

Grace is an anthropologist sent from Earth to act as an emissary on Dekkir's home planet. She has a clear mission - make contact, live among them and record details of their lives and planet. However, it became more complicated when she meets war chief and military leader Dekkir who insists she is his mate as soon as he smells her scent. Adding to this chaos she is then attacked by her own planet's military command and Dekkir will do anything he can to keep her alive. Can they survive the upcoming battles or will one or the other die before he can claim his mate?

This was a pleasant story that had the complication between two races with different abilities struggling to find a way forward together - which mirrored the way it was between Grace and Dekkir too. Thankfully Grace was presented with a way to ensure that she could understand more of the planet's history and the way they communicate. I loved the way that their relationship developed and the way that Grace had to go against everything that she believed in order for the common good. I could feel the emotions from the characters at times through this story and I enjoyed many sections of it. Contains sexually explicit content.

For the most part, I really enjoyed reading Grace and Dekkir’s story. These two characters definitely had a lot of chemistry and I really liked the concept of the alien’s being able to smell who their mate is.

However, I just felt like Dekkir and Grace coming together was really rushed. Like I understand that he immediately knew that she was his soulmate, but I felt like them ultimately coming together happened too quickly and think this would have worked better as a slow burn. Especially since Grace seemed so headstrong in the beginning about not being harassed by a man or feeling like she’s forced into something she doesn’t want, only to quickly accept taking the golden strain and bounding herself to Dekkir.

The ending was also kind of disappointing. I’m not going to lie I just skimmed through it because it was pretty anticlimactic for me. Honestly, I think once Dekkir and Grace just came together so quickly, I part way checked out of the book. I think the disappointment of how quickly they came together just soiled some of the tittering anticipation I had been hoping for when I first started the book, and I unfortunately couldn’t get back to that initial excitement after.

This is the first book in the Galaxy Alien Warriors series. To be honest the only Alien porn I have ever read was written by Evangeline Anderson. I have read all of the Brides of the Kindred and three of the Alien Mate Index, so basically I am writing my review based off of my comparison to her books, and my own enjoyment.

Earth sends someone to study a planet and its inhabitants. Upon crash landing, her guide/protector decides shes his mate. He imprints on her. Shes not happy about not having a choice in the matter. Someone sabotages the work she is doing and tries to kill the leader of the planet....gee I wonder who it could be??? This book is so transparent, its laughable. After a trial/mind reading session the leaders decide she can prove her innocence by flushing out the real culprit, again....I wonder who it could be???

I got to 53% and then I did the unthinkable, I started skimming this book just to get it over with. Lame and uninteresting. Don't do it!! I couldn't bring myself to read this entire book and I will not be reading the sequels. I just can't do it. Happy reading to everyone :)

INTERESTING NEW SERIES. This is the first book in the Galaxy Alien Warriors series, and for the author, so I didn't know what to expect. It is a standalone with no cliffhanger and has an HEA. There is violence and sex so definitely 18+. I enjoyed this quick read. Perfect for when you need a distraction from real life for a bit.

The book blurb adequately describes the storyline so I'm not going to repeat all of that info here. What I found was a slightly different take on a SciFi Romance story with an alien and human. Between battling giant insects and other creatures on the planet, and someone from Earth wanting to start a war instead of a negotiating a trade alliance, can Dekkir and Grace survive and have an HEA?

I look forward to reading more books in this series. I voluntarily and honestly reviewed this advance reader copy and was not compensated in any way.

This was a sweet alien romance with an interesting plot, the characters were entertaining and worked well at keeping you enveloped in the story. The story is based around earth trying to find a trade partner as earth solar system's resources have been used up, but perhaps these backwards natives can offer something far more useful than just trade.
The only thing that I did not like about this story is that I found a lot of the information was repeated, if you take a couple of days to read a book then this can be a useful recap method but I tend to read books from start to finish and rarely put a book down once I start reading, therefore I found the recaps unnecessary.
If you enjoy a sweet alien romance then I am sure you will enjoy this book.

Got book for an honest review.

The author really knows how to pull me into their world, that they have built for their characters. I was there watching the story unfold. The story kept my interest with the twist and turns and with all its action. It also kept me wondering whose trying to kill Dekkir father or them. Had to keep reading to see if my suspicion was right on who was attacking.
I loved the characters. They were well developed. Loved the chemistry between Dekkir and Grace. The two of them could heat up the page.
I am finding that this series is becoming one of my favorites. I thought the story was well written. The book kept me at a nice steady pace moving me along nicely. I will be stalking the author for more of their books.

Thank you for letting me read book one in the series.

A complex sci-fi romance

Well this book took me by surprise, the world building alone was gasping. I loved the storyline even more kept me guessing what will come next?

Dekkir; The War Chief! This alien was awesome in this book, all living and tough lol. Loved how he fought in those fighting scenes, his calm exterior and careful consideration also made him perfect for the job.

Grace: though at first I was not fond of her, she came off way too aggressive. The "men only harass me so eff all others" type but she calmed and grew on me. I loved how she quickly came into her own and showed a more compassionate side of her without compromising herself.

It wasn't the typical sci-fi story most of it was about the worlds between Lyra and Earth. And I enjoyed reading this book a lot couldn't put it down. It's a must read for sure.

Grace works for Earth Military Command and is assigned as the liaison on the planet Lyra. Earth resources have been depleted and humans desperately need an agreement with the Lyran people that will allow them to mine the resources they need from Lyra and it's moons. When her contact on Lyra announces that Grace is his True Mate she doesn't take it well. Decker and Grace are wonderfully written characters that will fight for their lives, and the planet of Lyra, against Earth's military to preserve the planet and its people. Action packed, exciting and sexy read with fantastic plot twists. Great book.

I really liked this book in the beginning and was really excited to have found a new author that was writing quality SFR. But around halfway through, I started to lose interest and it took a while for me to finish it. It wasn't that the story or writing was bad; it just went in a direction that I personally don't find interesting. Plus, it seems that the author originally wrote the story as a serial because every few chapters, the events that had already occurred were summarized. I would probably rate it as a 3.5.

Science meets alien warriors

This was a first-time with this author. It most definitely will not be the last. The storyline was well developed, with a little violence and lots of discussion of how the characters gave up on science completely. When things get hot and war looms on the horizon, the story gets even more complex. The characters are also well-developed and believable.
To say more would be giving it away. So, try it and you will find it enjoyable like I did.

Lyran Warrior with hot delicious bod . . . looking for sexy, curvy earthling

I have to say that I fell in love with Lyran. The Golden Strain was very interesting. The immediate mate scenting. The confusion of Dr. Grace was cool. I love that she just did not jump right in because a hot guy wanted her. I love her strength of will and determination. I love that she did not just automatically feel like she had to go with the flow. She was a thinker and weighed her options. She was also betrayed, used, and left for dead. This was compeltely unexpected. I love it.

Again, another bright, strong leading female with a big heart! And plenty of heat between the leading characters, Eva and Raevu....that is, once Eva schools Raevu on how different humans and aliens are. Humans do not imprint and Raevu must respect the fact that Eva comes from a planet with different “mating” customs.

Eva must face conflict from both her homeland (being vague to avoid spoilers!) and the people of Dekkir’s planet.

There are twists and turns with this story as well, keeping the reader engaged as well as enjoying watching Eva and Raevu’s story unfold.

I picked up this one for a strange reason. There were several complaints of bad grammar and poor spelling on Amazon. However, all those reviews had spelling and grammatical errors in them, so I decided to find out for myself. The grammar and spelling is much better than your typical alien romance. There are a couple of plot holes and a little too much tell (rather than show) for my taste, but still a perfectly good read.

Dekkir By Lara Larue is book #1 in the Galaxy Alien Warriors series. This is a wonderful book about Grace, a human and Dekkir an alien and the romance that evolves between them. I loved how Dekkir knew he had found his fated mate in Grace and had to work so hard to get her to see this truth. Lots of chemistry, emotions and adventure will keep you entertained while reading this well written book. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC copy of this book.

Mission failure or is it

Grace thinks she's on a cultural exchange when she lands on Lyran. Dekkir has to rescue Grace from her downed spacecraft and from then on he's there to protect her. Turns out Earth Command has nefarious designs on the planet but a secret infiltrator will come to Lyran aid. There's lots of action, some cultural snafus and a big smack down in this story.

fabulous. one of the best alien stories i have read. intrigue, betrayal, love, mating, suspense, surprise, twists and more. all in one book. once u get started u won't want to put it down until the very end and it will leaving u wanting more in the series. well written, well edited, wonderful storyline, believable real characters with depth, emotion and a host of issues going on separately. highly recommend this book to anyone who loves alien romance.
