Nexus #1

Anathema

Rate this book
When the world was young, supernatural creatures walked among mankind freely. Chaos reigned as the supernatural beings sought supremacy. The human race was nearly wiped out of the face of the earth. Dark creatures preyed on the weaker. Demons inhabited human bodies and angels fell in love with them, hence Nexi, the cursed, were born.

Anathema has always seen strange things but never knew exactly why. Despite the pain, misery, agony and suffering it brings her, she has learned to accept her unique ability. As she strives to find out the reason for being able to travel through different realms and being a magnet to spirits of the dead, she realizes how little she knows about the truth of her existence.

When she is thrust in the middle of a war, a war that had been going on since the beginning of creation, Anathema must make a choice -- one that will save one world and destroy the other. Will she turn her back to the light she had always known and embrace the darkness within her?

Read this book again and thoroughly enjoyed it. This stand alone has been polished with few added scenes. I totally love it. Like what I've said on my previous review posted on the bundle, I was immediately hooked on this from the very first page. My favorite aspect of the book has to be the fight scenes between the Alexus and Calix, who are both hot in their own way. This author has a knack for writing breath-taking, pulse-pounding fight scenes!

Love triangles in YA books is becoming an annoying trend. Books where the love triangle is the main definer of the lead girl threw me off. But this book is plot driven rather focusing on the development of the three characters. At this point, I don't know who the character will end up with. That's a plus point. I want to see how it's all going to unravel in the next book.

Readers who enjoy angel related story but are tired of the same old brand new theme will benefit from reading this story. I would recommend this book to anyone, religious views aside.

This book has a very intriguing storyline. This is the first book in the series and there is still a lot to learn about the characters. It is definitely a book to check out. It is well written and I am looking forward to seeing where the author will take the story.

I received a copy in return for a honest review.

Quick Mini-Review:

OMG! Where is book 2?! I need it!

I'm so glad I tried another book from this author. The first book I tried from Ysa was Forever Night Stand and I had so many struggles with the book then. Maybe I was just new to the author's writing style? I had trouble adapting to it. I didn't feel that way this time around. Probably because it's within my usual genre? NA has always been a hit and miss for me while fantasy is always spot on. And maybe also because I already know what to expect from her at this point.

Anyway, I'm definitely looking forward to the next books to come from the series.

Couldn't finish it.... Says she loves her mom but treats her like she and orders her around. Her actions and thoughts don't match.
If the boy need to kill her, just be done with it. Don't be so wishy-washy. Stabs her then back to being pals? Wth. Don't understand it at all. Gave up then.
