Melissa Storm is a New York Times and multiple USA Today bestselling author of Women’s Fiction, Inspirational Romance, and Cozy Mysteries.

Despite an intense, lifelong desire to tell stories for a living, Melissa was “too pragmatic” to choose English as a major in college. Instead, she obtained her master’s degree in Sociology & Survey Methodology—then went straight back to slinging words a year after graduation anyway.

She loves books so much, in fact, that she married fellow author Falcon Storm. Between the two of them, there are always plenty of imaginative, awe-inspiring stories to share. Melissa and Falcon also run a number of book-related businesses together, including LitRing, Sweet Promise Press, Novel Publicity, Your Author Engine, and the Author Site.

When she's not reading, writing, or child-rearing, Melissa spends time relaxing at her home in the Michigan woods, where she is kept company by a seemingly unending quantity of dogs and two very demanding Maine Coon rescues. She also writes under the names of Molly Fitz and Mila Riggs.

Words cannot describe how much this book touched me, on so many levels. I’m a Christian and always am on the lookout for good Christian Fiction and in particular Romance. The story follows a woman called Summer who finishes her course at College but has no idea what she wants to do with her life. Her Aunt contacts her about looking after the flower shop that she runs and Summer agrees to do it. Arriving in Sweet Grove, Summer is hoping by having her aunt’s shop to run, her answers to finding her goals in life are easy to come. In Sweet Grove lives a man called Ben, his family has been torn apart after his brother ends his own life, the Dad walking out on them and the Mum struggling with alcohol addiction. Ben decides he wants to take his own life until a mix-up of delivery from Summer with a bunch of flowers changes everything.

Even though this is the 1st book in a series, I do believe all the books have an ending which isn’t a cliffhanger and can be read in any order. The story plot wasn’t predictable, there were moments that broke my heart including Ben and Summer helping Ben’s Mum into rehab to help her with her alcohol addiction. I really needed this since I am having a rough patch at the moment, it isn’t a preachy book, it’s a story that will stick with you. Thanks to an Instafreebie deal for offering this book for free, I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and will definitely read Melissa’s other books!

This was the first book of Melissa Storm's I read and now I am hooked.

Love's Prayer follows the story of Ben and Summer. Ben is dealing with a lot of emotional issues, including the suicide-death of his brother and his mother's alcoholism. What I loved most about this book is that Storm deals with such large issues in a manner that is realistic without having to resort to bad language or sex to bring the reader's interest.

I highly recommend this book, but with one warning: once you read one book, you won't be able to stop with the rest of her books.

This was a nice read. Summer is in town working at her aunt's flower shop while she is on a cruise. Ben is a man who is dealing with a lot in life. His mother being an alcoholic is one of the big things. He meets Summer and he begins to see life in a better way. I was happy that his mom was able to turn her life around. I of course was happy that Ben and Summer got their HEA.

Ben lives in a small town. Seven years ago, his older brother went to the town square and shot himself in the face. His father eventually left town and his mother, Susan, became an alcoholic. Rather than going to college on a full scholarship, Ben is the stocker and bag boy at the local grocery. He had to stay home and take care of his mother, because there is no one else.

He thinks about what his brother did and it does sound rather appealing to him.

Sunny has her college degree, but she has no idea what to do in the future. She has come to the small town to work in her aunt’s floral shop for two months. Her aunt is on an around the world cruise. By the time her aunt returns, Sunny will khave decidee what her future should hold.

Ben and Sunny meet and there is an immediate connection. Sunny is a kind woman who wants to help Ben and his mother. She has an understanding about alcoholics.

For some reason, just being around Sunny makes Ben feel better. It has been so long that he almost does not recognize happy when he feels it.

This is a terrific small town story. There are long time citizens who want to help Ben and Susan. Those same citizens also make Sunny feel welcome. The town is a populated by kind and caring people.

This is a fast read.

Ben and Sunny provide support for one another. And slowly, Susan is able to emerge from the darkness and look around at the world. It is not easy for her.

There is love of family here. There is also love of friends for one another.

The story is based on faith and hope and the idea that people can help one another.

Ms Storm has written an entertaining and easy read.

I could not complete the book. I was hoping for an ‘over 30 or 40’ romance. In the first chapter I could tell the book was dealing with younger people than I wanted to read about. It might be a great read for people who like younger characters.

The first book in the First Street Church Series was a good read.I found the plot well thought out, the characters were well developed, and it had a well wrapped up ending.

The main character, Ben Davis, is going through the most difficult time of his life. He hasn't recovered from his brothers suicide, had to put his college on hold, and is dealing with a mother who is drowning her sorrows in a bottle of alcohol. He is feeling like he should end his life. He finally cries out to God for help. In enters his answer to prayer, Summer Smith. She is in town for the summer to take over her aunt Ida's flower shop while she is gone on a cruise. She knows nothing about running a flower shop and struggles with day to day operation.

In the town of Sweet Grove, she finds friendship, caring, and love. Ben & Summer struggle through real life issues that I could relate to. The book left me running the gamut of feelings from sadness to joy, but in the end made me feel satisfied and uplifted. I really enjoyed the journey.

Love's Prayer. I loved this book! This book was so amazing at showing how important faith, love, and believing is to having a successful life. Two people desperate to change their lives for the better finds how much they need to believe their relationship is worth fighting for. Summer helps Ben believe in God and in his self so that he can have the power within himself to ask Summer to stay in town. In doing this , Ben found the courage to help his mother also. Good read! *** I voluntarily read a Review Copy of this book. All opinions stated are solely my own and no one else’s. ***

I didn't like the self-pitying hero of the story. He depended almost solely on a woman for his self-worth.

I was further turned off by the note in the back of the book informing me that the author doesn't consider herself a Christian fiction author. I read the book because I believed she was a Christian fiction author writing a Christian book (and it was), but that note confused me and left me feeling like the author is ashamed of her relationship with Christ. If that's the case, I'm not interested in reading more of her work.

LOVE'S PRAYER, the first book in the First Street Church Romances was an inspiration. Summer Smith and Ben Davis are two people that are destined to change each other forever. Ms. Storm writes with warmth, compassion and honestly about uncomfortable issues that arose in Ben's life. This is another winning novel that will grab your heart! I highly recommend.

STORY-LINE LOVE'S PRAYER BY MELISSA STORM:

Ben Davis' life is never the same after his brother killed himself. He sets all his dreams and ambitions aside to care for his mother. At twenty-six, he's a delivery boy and stocker for the local grocery. Far from what he had planned for his life, Ben's depressed and considering suicide. However, his alcoholic mother depends on him and in a small way so does Maisie, the manager of the grocery. Sending a prayer to God, he sets in motion events destined by God. Ben's not sure he believes in God, however, God believes in him.

Summer Smith, new college graduate, has no idea what she wants to do with her life. When her Aunt offers her a two month job in her floral shop while she's on a cruise, Summer jumps at the chance. She has two months of free room and board, as well as, time to decide the course of her life.

God has a plan and sets it in motion for Ben and Summer. Two people in desperate need, will they find love, hope, and renewal of life. My romance book reviews of Love's Prayer follows.

CHARACTERS, PLOTTING, DEVELOPMENT:

Love's Prayer by author Melissa Storm's an intense story of alcoholism, depression, desperation, indecision, and faith. It is also a story of God's guidance and love for us. Ben Davis is a sad man considering suicide; filled with feelings of guilt, unworthiness, and depression. Alone with a depressed alcoholic mother and in a dead-in job, he gave us his dreams to care his mother. Ben faces many ugly facts as we journey through this book. His prayer to God will bring a tear to your eye; unsure how to talk to God, he stumbles through his request. God hears every prayer, whether the prayer's by an articulate person or a novice.

Summer's a woman filled with indecision; without direction for her life and afraid any decision she makes will be wrong. These two are perfect for each other. Storm filled this book with deep emotion which makes it hard to read at times. Healing comes with faith and friends who believe in them. Melissa Storm faced, head-on, subjects which are hard to talk and read about. She showed how we fall into the trap of depression and indecision, yet, there is always hope with help from friends and God. Summer's appearance in Sweet Grove sparked a desire for renewal in Ben.

I love the town of Sweet Grove, Texas. Storm filled Sweet Grove with caring people. Typical of small town USA, gossip runs rampant, but seldom maliciously. Everyone knows their neighbors and helps when necessary with hands, money, and prayer. Love's Prayer is a story of relationships with each other and God. As well as, showing how depression and alcoholism destroys the person's heart and soul; Storm also shows how they affect those with which we live. But with determination, support, and faith in God, each can be overcome.

Melissa Storm's secondary characters are wonderful and add depth to the book. I see opportunities for many future books featuring the secondary characters. Adding in the little parrot, Sunny Sunshine, added a sweet touch. Her scenes transition smoothly and her writing flows well; making this a solid romance with deep issues seen in everyday life. Her characters are well-developed and the pace's in line with the length of the book. I could relate to Ben and Summer and felt I knew them as I closed my E-reader. Love's Prayer is a deep, sweet, clean, romance book with a happy ending,

As I prepare my reviews of a book, I'm supposed to include any negatives of the writing, structure, development, and composition. I found this book well-constructed with good composition, well-development story-line, and realistic characters. I would not hesitate to buy this book for myself or a friend. I can't wait for my next journey to Sweet Grove.
LOVE'S PRAYER RECOMMENDATION: STARS 4

I have decided to start at the beginning of this great series as I have read one of the books further along. Depression is a very strong topic of this book that a few readers may have a bit of an issue reading about, but as you can be assured there will be AHE. I felt the story was very uplifting and the characters are a wonderful couple to get to know. Faith and hope are all you need to look toward to improving your life something I myself have looked at in recent years just like our characters. Love’s Prayer and all The First Street Church books will fill you with joy and happiness in this Christian romance series that I would highly recommend.
We meet Ben Davis at the lowest point of his short life and it’s a life shadowed by tragedy and sacrifices. He makes a desperate plea to God to give him a sign of what to do even though he is not a full believer in God. He gets an answer that may just brighten up his day or maybe just his whole life. He has done everything to help his mother and to do the right thing, but he feels like his life is on auto-pilot.
Summer Smith has moved into town for a short time to help out her Aunt while she tries to decide what to do with her life now college is over. Sweet Grove is a great little Texan town with a very close-knit community where she soon finds herself a few new friends. Her Aunts Florist shop is not her dream job or even a job she is good at but a promise is a promise. One mistake leads her to Ben Davis and his mother how is spiralling out of control. Her caring nature is to help and it also a bonus that their a few sparks when she is around Been. Summer is only in town for a few months so romance is not on the cards but a friend is always welcome.
Ben wants more than friendship with Summer as she has changed his life forever and has made him start to believe life can be better.

This story follows Summer and Ben in Sweet Grove, Texas. Summer recently graduated from college with a degree in communications but is unsure of what she wants to do with it. Ben grew up in the small town of Sweet Grove and works at the local grocery store trying to take care of both he and his mother after his brother committed suicide in a very public way. Ben is suffering from severe depression and contemplating suicide when he has a chance meeting with Summer who has come to town for a few months to run her aunt's flower shop. Summer is a shining light in the darkness that has surrounded Ben; he feels she is the answer to his prayer for help. Summer and Ben agree to be friends but quickly fall in love. Summer helps Ben find his way back to enjoying life and dealing with his alcoholic mother. Ben helps Summer to make decisions about her future. The only problem is whether or not that future includes him.

This story deals with the very heavy topics of suicide, depression, and alcoholism in addition to faith, love, escaped parrots and bad karaoke.

I did have a hard time getting into the story. I really liked Ben but Summer was more difficult for me to like. Summer seemed almost ditzy at first with her indecisiveness and that turned me off a bit but as the story continued, I discovered that was not the case. It was easy to fall in love with all of the other characters in Sweet Grove too.

The only thing that really threw me for a loop was the epilogue. It is written from the POV of one of the secondary characters. I understand that she is a main character in the next book but it just struck me as odd.

This is the first book I have ever read from this author and I wasn't exactly sure what to expect. I knew that Ms Storm writes about Christian characters but I wasn't sure how religious the story would be. I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised. I did not feel as though religion was being shoved down my throat.

I received an ARC of this book and have voluntarily provided a review.

Love's Prayer - a review by Rosemary Kenny

Melissa Storm writes beautiful faith-inspired sweet romances with no sex and a Christian faith theme, such as is central to the wonderful Love's Prayer, first book in the First Street Church Romances series.

The main male character, Ben Davis is in danger of abandoning his faith when he is devastated (as are the rest of the churchgoing family), when Ben's brother commits suicide in the centre of the small Texan town of Sweet Grove, where this story is set. As his father struggles before abandoning the family and his Mom tries to cope drinking all day until she passes out and can't be left home alone.
Causing Ben to question his faith and abandon his precious scholarship at college to care for his Mom and earn money to pay the bills as man of the house, makes him call on God to send him someone to love and his prayers are miraculously answered by the arrival of Summer Smith, who's come to the town to run her Aunt Iris' flower shop, while her Aunt takes the cruise holiday of a lifetime. Sadly Summer's no good at floristry and messes up the orders, leading to her meeting Ben while doing so. A great little story that doesn't force-feed the reader with Christianity or presume to preach to the reader. Rather it shows the subtle but real benefits to come from the power of prayer and inspires the reader to think of what really matters in life is family and friends, helping each other to demonstrate God's love to one another, as He has loved us.
Get this uplifting book today and prepare to be inspired to spread the love and friendship with those you meet and know - you'll be so glad you have a copy on your bookshelves!

I dont think I've e been so put off by any author ever until trying to read this book. Before the story begins we are subject to an author's note that proceeds to laud her magnaminity in writing a "spiritual" story intended to offend no religious faith by declaring dogmatoc truth. In actuality her opening paragraph of the story reflects an antagonistic attitude toward the christian faith. The author's note struck me as disingenuous, but I was willing to read on with an open mind, even after paragragh one. However. the character development was sorely lacking and the depression and suicidal ideation of Ben was too much to overcome to proceed in light of an ill fleshed out reason to care.

I abandoned the book in chapter three. I can do self pity over my own life. I understand we all suffer, but this author, in trying to please every faith, pleased none and gave us no real reason to travel down the road she was laying. I don't find the self pity of others even slightly entertaining nor engaging, and that's how Ben's suffering sounded to me. Especially when there is no character there to draw me to sypathize. I felt manipulated to feel sorry for Ben, not to truly sympathize and care.

This book was a very interesting and an easy read. It had me hooked from the start.

The characters were very credible and showed how alcoholism can steal the lives, not only of the victim but the whole family.

People can be seen as cruel (without actually being so ) when viewed through the distorted perceptions of people unable to reach out to hands proffered in help until they themselves reach rock bottom.

In the story we meet Ben, a victim of self doubt and poor parenting. He slowly begins a journey and the author introduces him to another person fighting their own demons.

The journey begins & as in life no journeys are alike or taken at the same speed.
There is good character development, and the faith element is introduced very gently as a relationship . I m not going to use spoilers, so you will have to read the book yourself to enjoy the ending which even surprised me .. Thank you voracious readers for giving me a free copy of this book , I enjoyed it very much , it ended too soon I really wanted to know how things progressed, guess that's another book added to my wishlist !

After a depressing start this book made quite an impact!

It starts really sad. Very dark and oppressive. Ben struggles with anger, depression, a death wish, and his mother’s alcoholism, all as a result of his brother’s suicide years ago. Even though this was very depressing, it also felt real; a lot of people struggle with depression. But the heaviness did prevent me from getting into the story easily.

Summer is thrown into the deep end. She runs the flower shop for her vacationing aunt without any experience, without any help, without anyone to show her the ropes. Why didn’t Aunt Iris train her for at least one day? That was a bit cruel and Aunt Iris isn’t cruel, so I found this very unrealistic and I had a hard time letting it go.

So, for me, the book started out a little negative. But I’m glad I persevered. Because there is hope. There is light. There is love. And as I read further, it got so much better and I became engrossed. It was compelling! It made quite an impact. Ben and Summer managed to win me over :)

Have you ever been on a quest to find yourself? Have you ever felt like you were suppose to be doing something else with your life? And what about finding the right mate, having a child or not or just trying to fit in with a group?

Well let me just say that Love's Prayer may have you questioning things all over again or help you make the right choices now. I know that it is a story about a character named Summer Smith (love the name) that is at this point in her life and how she is praying for direction in her life. Summer is a well written character. I fell right into the pages of her life and the choices she makes and how she makes them.

The character Ben Davis is written with a lot of back story as to why he is the way he is, and it helps you to understand him and all the choices he has made. There were times I wanted to throttle him. I also wanted :

The story gets better as it progresses

This was a different type of story; it was interesting but not a page turner. The two main characters are uncertain about their lives. As the book progresses we get to watch them reach a new place of love and acceptance, both in their own lives and in their relationship. However Summer has made it clear to Ben that this little town is only a temporary stop for her and that at the end of three months she will be leaving. Melissa Storm seems to go to a lot of trouble to explain that she is not a Christian romance writer, and yet her story involves Ben turning to a relationship with God. I can’t help but wonder why this is a problem for Melissa. Carolynne Aarsen,
Karen Kingsbury and Francine Rivers are three Christian writers who come to mind and their careers are not suffering because they are Christian authors. I always try to look for a Christian writer because I know that not only will I get an excellent story, but it will also be clean and there will be no bad language in it.

This first book in a series starts with a bizarre message to the reader explaining these books are important to the author but not for everyone. Not sure what that's about. A typical boy meets girl sweet romance, it oozes idealized small town life and storybook happy endings. The narrative moves at an erratic pace like it can't decide what it wants to be. It delves into the very lowest of human spirals and contrasts it with the unrealistic positivity of indie romance novels. The spirituality is a mixed bag and definitely an afterthought rather than a centerpiece: touting the message that while there is a generous, all-knowing God, He'd rather you took matters into your own hands to fix your depressing life. I was taking it for what it was until one of the main characters did a 180 into a selfish jerk. That's when the author lost me for good. I finished the last dozen pages despite the disappointing flaw and the lapses in consistent writing. Not the worst thing I've ever read, but not the Christian fiction I personally was looking for.

Sometimes love comes and circumstances separate that love. Summer has come to Sweet Grove to help work her aunt's flower shop while she goes on a cruise. During the months there, Summer hopes to figure out her life going forward, but she never expected to meet someone in small-town America like Ben. Ben is wallowing in his miserable life because he has given up his dreams of college and teaching to take care of his mother, who has taken to the bottle since her other son's death and her husband's leaving them. Summer is like her name in this story and brightens everyone's life. Ben falls head-over-heels at first sight, but he is certainly not in Summer's league and she would never be interested in someone with his life. But Summer falls nearly as fast for Ben and soon they are dating, despite the fact she will be leaving once her aunt returns. Summer has helped so many people in Sweet Grove and Ben is not ready to let her go, but what can be do to get her to stay?

I did not enjoy this book as much as others. There was very action except at the end. The story was hard to get into because it seemed more like a psychological discourse between Ben and Summer.
Ben's older brother committed suicide in the public square and brought shame to the family. Since then, his mother has become an alcoholic, ruining what family was left. Ben forfeited his dreams and hopes to stay home and care for his mother.
Summer graduated from college, but has not idea what she wants to do with her life. Currently she is taking care of her aunt's flower shop while her aunt is on an extended cruise. Poor Summer is really out of her element.
Further into the book, it gets better when Ben and Summer begin to pray, attend church, and strengthen their faith. That really made a difference in both of them.

This was a little difficult for me to read., as I have sufferred depression and suicidal thoughts myself.Ben is having a hard time living after his brother committed suicide and his mother turning to alcohol. He is at the end of his rope and prays to God for help. He gets his answer in Summer. Summer ihas come to work at her aunts florist shop so she can go on a cruise. Her personality is so great. She forms bonds with everyone. She and Ben grow close. She helps him get her mother into treatment. I especilly loved the part when her aunt's parrot gets out of the house and the whole town comes out to help get him back. It was also great how the whole town helps Ben to plan the going away party for Summer that turns into a welcome home party. A very touching story. I received a readers copy of this book.

If books were persons, I would picture this one as young, very young, blond, blue-eyed, apple-cheeked, and a bit naive.
The plot - very good, very serious really with topics like alcoholism and suicide.
The narration style - in my opinion, a very good narration style, just not fitting the plot, too simple, too like a fairy tale for younger readers?
Both were very good, but in my opinion not doing each other justice (not sure if that makes sense, but that is what I felt when reading it).
Very lovable (and sometimes pitiable) characters, small town people looking out for each other, and rallying around the newcomer, Summer, to help two of their own who have hit rock-bottom.
Don't get me wrong, despite what sounds like bad criticism, I really liked the book, and am looking forward to getting my hands on the second book in this series.

LOVE'S. PRAYER. by Melissa Storm, the first in her new series First Street Church. We meet Ben who is angry that his older brother killed himself. Leaving a mother, despondent, the bottle, mortgage, bills, five years later, it hadn't changed. The town seemed to pity him now, and it's always one dark day after another. Summer, after college now what, never been attracted to anything. Goes to run her aunt's flower shop, while she is gone. Two people struggling to fit in, find how much they need one another. To learn, that they hold the reins, and to make decisions, for a better life. Strong story of people who are struggling in life, with themselves, GOD, and facing everyday life. Well done Melissa, looking forward to the next in the series. Given ARC for my voluntary review and my honest opinion,

Ben Davis was depressed. He abandoned his dreams to take care of his alcoholic mother after his brother committed suicide and his father left them. Ben thought his life didn't matter and was contemplating suicide when he prayed to God for help and his answer was Summer. Being with her gave his life meaning and purpose again. But Ben has a lot of insecurities, is afraid of rejection and that Summer won't understand his crazy life even though she grew up with an alcoholic too. Summer is afraid is to lose her heart only to be forced to leave in a few months for work.
Who doesn't wonder about the choices they make in life, whether or not their life matters, or feel hopeless sometimes. Great romance about overcoming depression, finding love and happiness, and following your dreams.

Sweet Small Town Life

Summer goes to take care of her aunt's flower shop after she graduate s college for a couple of months. Her aunt is going on a long anticipated cruise. The first thing she finds out is that her aunt also has a bird to take care of as well. She doesn't know anything about flowers or birds so naturally is a little nervous. The first day in the shop, the lady who is supposed to help out and show her the ropes, instead sends a notice that she quit. What? She has a small snafu by sending a bouquet to the wrong house, when Ben brings it back, he sees she is in over her head and he offers to help out...... Sweet book with some sweet spiritual inspiration. Thoroughly enjoyed the book.

Summer and Ben is all that needs to be said. What a great book! Life's problems, God's solutions. This book shows what can happen when people really care about others and are willing to let God work in their lives. I look forward to reading other books by this author. Relaxing to read. It grabs you at the first page and doesn't let go until the last page. I found this book hard to put down. I wanted to read all night to finish this book but the eyelids would not let that happen. I continued the next day and was able to complete it. I love the way this author writes. No sex. No profanity. No violence.

A powerful and emotional love story with realistic and well developed characters and storyline. The first book in the series and if this is any indication of future stories in this series then this series is one you won't want to miss reading. The main characters have issues in their past that need to be dealt with and with the support and love for each other, they develop a strong and loving relationship, a relationship that the author portrayed in such a realistic way that you become totally immersed in their story. I highly recommend and am looking forward to the future stoires in this series.
