Bad Things #4

Broken Angel

Rate this book
Angel Lila is being hunted - she can feel the hunter closing in behind her. Every move she makes, he's stalking after her. But does the werewolf on her trail want to destroy her - or can he protect her from the growing darkness that she is trying so desperately to fight?

Werewolf Rayce Lovel doesn't know what to do with an angel - especially one who makes him think too much about paradise. Lila may be heavenly, but every time he's near her, Rayce wants to sin. Angels aren't supposed to feel, but Lila was introduced to the world by way of pain. Pain is all she's known for far too long, and now, Rayce is tempted to introduce gorgeous Lila to pleasure.

But the longer an angel stays out of heaven, the more dangerous she can become. Lila sinks deeper into the darkness with each night that passes, and she finds herself becoming a pawn in an eternal battle...good versus evil. Is Rayce really her protector? Perhaps he is just the hungry wolf who has been sent to ensure that Lila never sets foot back in her paradise.

A fallen angel has a bad side...and that side is about to be set free.

Lila is a fallen angel who we first learn about in book 2 of the series. She was betrayed by the Leo, the twin that was born to rule the light when he gave her feather to a madman. That madman was able to catch her later and imprisoned her along with other paranormals. In book 2, they were freed and Lila has been on the run ever since.

Luke, the twin that was born to rule the dark, sent Rayce to hunt down Lila and bring her to him. Rayce is a werewolf who Luke saved from being consumed by his beast. Rayce owes his loyalty to Luke for saving him and his beast. That loyalty will be tested when he is told that Lila is changing and can not be saved.

Another great addition to the series. I like how the author is revealing bits and pieces with each book. We are given impressions of some characters and later learn that all is not as it seems. I enjoy when a book doesn't follow a straight path. On to the next one...

The Angel and the Beast. Who would have thought of that?🤣 Well, of course none other than dearest Luke. I think he might be right and all of it is backwards. He should be up there and Leo down in his place, cos after all I ve read so far, damn straight Leo doesn't deserve to be Lord of Light. That hottie has to prepare his redemption hard for his book.

So werewolf Rayce and fallen angel Lila's book. He's been hunting for her for quite a while now and of course he doesn't plan to ever let her go once he catches up to her, not even when she isn't quite the angel he expected her to be.
Action, steam, feelings and a plot that still keeps me entertained.

I read Cynthia Eden books because they are relaxing and easy books. I know they'll always have the insta lust/love( I don't mind it at all in this books). Always good banter, self sacrificing, steam and great paranormals. She really has an exquisite imagination.

4.5 - "Didn't I tell you... you'll always be my angel." Stars!

Cynthia Eden’s books always take me to my reading happy place, Broken Angel is the fourth book in her fast-paced, paranormal Bad Things Series.

Shifter Rayce Lovell has figured in the series from the beginning, being one of the Lord of the Darks enforcers, he has been by Luke’s side at most of the pivotal plot points that have occurred across the previous three books so far, but the author was quick to highlight Rayce’s overprotective stance for Lila from pretty much the first time she takes up page space, and this book, finally gives you their coming together, around the development of the bigger plot-lines.

"Did you miss me?"

Lila has been on the run since Luke and Leo released her from the prison she had been held in, Rayce due to the immediate connection between them, picked up her sent from the beginning, and has been pursuing her at Luke’s request ever since.

Once a werewolf got his prey’s scent, he didn’t lose it...

And his reaching her comes as a pretty opportune point, as Rayce isn’t the only one who has been looking for her.

"I kill. I hunt. I fucking repeat. That’s my life."

The fight between good and evil heats up in this one, but the lines between those characteristics are getting very blurred, Luke and his brother Leo’s story is still developing , and while Leo is seen as the Light, his motives so far for the things he has done, intimate he is actually darker than Luke.

"Another bastard taught you about pain, but I’ll be the one to teach you about pleasure..."

This is still very much a story in development in regards to the bigger plot playing out, and I love that as one character finds their partner, the author introduces more into the plot, giving scope for plenty more books to be released over the coming months.

"You were always too good for me."

Loved this book, plenty of action, twists and turns, and as you would expect with this author, outstanding sexy-times mixed in with everything else going on, to keep things nice and spicy.

"She is mine... and I am hers."

A copy was generously gifted by the author, and it was my pleasure to provide the above honest review in exchange.

Instalove with a forbidden romance twist? I'm here for all of it!

After rescuing Lila, she went off the grid and Rayce has been searching for her ever since. He's supposed to be looking for her for his friend, the Lord of the Dark, but all he wants to do is protect her from anything that can hurt her—even if it means saving her from himself. But what happens when even his best intentions lead them down a dangerous path?

As a fallen angel, Lila has no idea what's happening to her. But something is definitely happening to her and the author did a great job of capturing her fear, anxiety, and hopelessness. However, with all of her doubts, there was one thing (or one person) she was pretty sure of... Rayce.

And I couldn't get enough of Rayce.

As an Alpha werewolf, he was wild, he was fierce, he was dominating and controlling, but he was also kind and sweet and generous and loving and amazing.

With tons of action, this story had me turning the pages very quickly and I'm looking forward to reading more from this series.

some of my fav quotes💌💌💌

Because, yes, he knew her name. He’d tried to learn every fucking thing he could about her since their first desperate meeting.
Obsessed?
Hell, yes, he was.

“That was my first kiss.” Then she smiled at him. She’d mentioned his dimple before, but when she smiled—she had two perfect, cute dimples. One in each cheek, winking at him. “Thank you for my kiss.”
She was thanking him.
He wanted to fucking eat her alive, and she was thanking him.

they’re so adorable😭😭

“You make me nervous when you stare at me.” She turned her head to once more meet his gaze.
“Why do you stare?”
“Because you’re fucking gorgeous.”
He thought that was an obvious answer.

“I was planning…to make you mine.”
“You don’t own somebody. That’s not how things work.”
He just stared at her with his gleaming gaze. “Are you sure?
Because you own me.”

damn that was smooth👀👀

“The first time I saw you…” His voice was soft. As soft as she’d ever heard it. “I looked at you and knew that you were mine.”
Lila shook her head. That wasn’t the way things worked. “No, just…listen.” He exhaled slowly. His hands rose and circled her manacles. His skin was so dark against the gold.
“I knew you were the one person I’d been looking for my whole life, and I knew you were out of my league. An angel…with a killer? No, it wouldn’t happen.”

Lila is a fallen angel who was betrayed by Leo, the twin that was born to rule the light. Now hunted by more than one person she's exhausted from forever running.

Luke, the twin that was born to rule the dark, sent shifter Rayce to hunt down Lila and bring her to him. Racye's loyalty will be tested as he finds himself drawn to Lila.

I liked the spark/connection between the MCs.

Seeing the secrets unfurl around Leo and Luke is always interesting.

This was an enjoyable re-re-read.

Loved this one! Both Lila and Rayce were amazing characters and perfect for each other. For a few minutes, I thought Lila would prove tstl but thank god she saw the light and stayed true to Rayce (and showed she wasn’t as naive as people assumed!)

Rayce was hands down my favorite character! He was selfless, brave, committed and loyal. So he was a little crazy, no biggie. He was that way for his one and only so I totes approved.

This is 100% safe.

Favorite lines:
... one of those bastards shoved a knife at her throat.
Oh, hello, fool. Did you just ask for death?

I am seriously loving this series. Each book is a surprise and is so entertaining. I do suggest you read the books in order because each one kind of leads into the next book of the series.

In this book we have Rayce, who is a werewolf without a pack because of his nature. He gets lost in the beast. Then we have Lila, the angel who was kidnapped by Simon Thorne in a previous book (Julian and Rose's book). Lila had never known pain until she was cruelly thrown into it when she was held captive. Right now she is on the run and Rayce is trying to find her on behalf of Luke but also because he knows she is his.

“The first time I saw you…” His voice was soft. As soft as she’d ever heard it. “I looked at you and knew that you were mine.”

He’d felt the connection to Lila from the first moment. Werewolves had mates—those perfect partners who were supposed to be the other halves of their souls. But his soul was damaged and battered, so twisted, that he hadn’t even thought he’d find a mate. Then he’d seen an angel in hell and his first fucking thought had been… There you are. I’ve been waiting for you.

However, someone else is looking for Lila too. Someone who believes she is meant for him and that the two of them can become even more powerful than Luke or Leo.

I really like these books. They are fast paced and the story keeps you interested throughout. There is always such passion and intensity in these books. I love the way they love. Highly recommend this series.

Quotes & Faves:

“When I’m with you,” his voice was such a rough rumble, “I’m touching heaven.”

“Don’t leave me again.” The words broke from her. Rayce glanced back. “When will you realize, I won’t ever leave you? You’re in my soul, Lila. The only good part that I have left.”

An angel and a beast. Luke laughed. Who would have thought it? I fucking did. And that’s why he was the Lord of the Dark. I. LOVE. LUKE. He is legit the best.

Wow!! That was one hell of a HOT ride! the book was literally on FIRE! the chemistry like OMG blazing and so damn romantic.. AWW!!! This was my first book by Cynthia Eden and it just sealed my fate as a faithful follower of her. This book was awesome. I want to say that it was too short for me but it was packed and well-written. When it was hot, it was so darn freaking HOT, I actually shifted my reading position more than a few times. When it was sweet, omg, I'm not shy to admit that I was swooning and grinning like an idiot. Loved the characters. Loved the story. Loved the plot. Loved the world. The setting. The pace. Hell I loved freaking everything!

I've enjoyed seeing Rayce throughout this series and indeed he's been essential to numerous plot twists but by giving him his own true love the author has fulfilled all my expectations. Finally we see him doing that which he excells at, hunting and his prey just happens to have a pivotal role in a long awaited plan. Oh I'd like to say more but in this world controlled by two powerful Lords it's always possible to make a deal but sometimes the outcome isn't quite worth the price!
Throughout this series the fight between the good and the supposedly bad brother and those who they hold dominion over has left readers questioning just where the lines are drawn. Luke aka the big bad might have Rayces unwavering loyalty but now we are starting to see a lot more of Leo as he is in a race against the dark side to find the fallen angel Lila. Lila knows she's been betrayed and will do anything to stay off angelic radar but she's becoming something different and it's only through Rayce that she starts to feel but can she trust herself to do the right thing? As an angel Lila doesn't feel and is at peace but after all her trials and the torture she has been subjected to its impossible for her not to change but boy does the author have a surprise or two instore !
I cannot express how much I enjoy this series. Yes it's well written, sexy too but it's the twisting overall arc that simply grips me. I've read many books by this author and continue to be astounded by her imagination. If like me you are loving this Bad Things series then can I suggest reading her Purgatory series too ? Although for now I'm happy to wait and see what happens next as a certain muse just might be on the Lords agenda but will she end up good or bad ? Hmm in the blue corner we have Luke and in the red corner Leo so perhaps it's time for the assumptions to cease!

LOL

I guess the heroine in this series need to suffer before they get the happy ending. I like the heroine in this book.Lila is vulnerable but such a brave character. There some scene i was like bitch use your fucking magic to save yourself 😂😂 .But one scene that totally broke my heart is when she crying and got shot while flying to save the hero, she’s such a great heroine. The hero is okay and kind of forgettable character.Overall, I like this book and the plot but there’s no HEA that I hope for.

Broken Angel is book four in the Bad Things series and this time we get to see Rayce meet his match. Lila didn’t have a great introduction to this world or to her newly formed feelings. Pain and terror has been much of what she has experienced, but Rayce is determined to show her more. Sent after her to bring her to Luke and keep her safe, soon feelings become involved and tough choices need to be made. This was thrilling, exciting and in some places nail biting. I loved every second of it and cannot wait to read the next book in this series. A must read for fans of paranormal romance.

This is Rayce, werewolf alpha of the alphas, and Luke’s top hunters book. With Lila, his sweet fallen Angel that he his trying to track down and protect. This book takes you through their journey of trying to save her from becoming something dangerous and unknown, but there is another player in this book, and he wants our sweet fallen angel for himself. Obviously, Rayce will do everything he can to protect her....and does.

This series is one of the best that I’ve read and honestly, it’s my favorite by Cynthia Eden. Every book in the series that I’ve read so far has been fantastic with a an equally fantastic storyline. I just can’t get enough of this series. If your a pnr and/or suspense junkie like myself...congratulations this is the series for you. Every book I am shocked and awe’d, and I love it.

This is a safe read. No shenanigans, just a great storyline with our favorite characters...hhhmmm, my Luke, and some new favorites as well. This book was funny, heart wrenching and everything in between. A sweet but badass virgin fallen Angel and her OTT werewolf alpha of the alphas, that is crazy about her. Actually, they are crazy about each other and would do anything, and I mean anything to protect one another. Their loyalty to each other, even before they’re mated is so damn refreshing. And they were hot af, the need they had for each other, you could feel through the book. Damn did I love this book, so great.

Re read (but DNF'd @45%) on may 2024

I tried, i really tried but i'm dnf'ing after skipping most of it. It's so similar to the last book it's really annoying and the cringe is veery strong here lol.
It didn't aged well for me, that's for sure. I'm not sure i'll try to re read the other books even if i'm a bit intrigued by Leo (but not that much) and eventually by the high note i put in one of the book. We'll see.

4 stars

It was nice coming back to this world even though a lot of short cut were taken. They got together just like that (i don't mind some insta love but here It was unbelievable). I think it's also too bad that some parts weren't more developped. Why Kale is that way for example ? What about Rayce's past ? A lot of little things were happening and not making sense.
But like i said it was nice reading about them and i can't wait to discover more. Especially with that fuckin' Leo ^^

I LOVED this book. The last time I read a book this good was at least a year ago. The world this author built, and the characters in it were amazing. I haven’t come across a book with good world building that you can actually follow and get immersed in for a long while. Also, I loved that this was about an angel. I wish more paranormals had angels, or incorporated them the way this author does.

I definitely can’t wait to start this series from the first book and go in order this time. But, I gotta say, I am excited because if the fourth book in the series is this great, I have high hopes for the first three. Can’t wait to get started.

3.5/5 al fin pude terminar de leer un libro!!!
“Think of the humans who will die if Kale escapes…” Leo threw at him.
“I think of her! I’m not some damn do-gooder who wants to save the world—she is everything to me. I won’t let her die.”
Leo’s eyes widened. “You’d trade all of those lives for—”
“I would trade everything for her. She is mine, and I am hers and she will not die!”

Review posted on Got Fiction?

In this fourth book in Cynthia Eden’s Bad Things series, we have Lila the fallen angel, and Rayce, Luke’s werewolf friend, and tracker. He’s been tasked to find this fallen angel, and bring her to Luke. If you’ve been following my reviews of this series, you’ll know Luke is considered the Lord of the Dark, meaning he has control over all dark things (i.e. vampires, werewolves, etc). His twin Leo is the Lord of the Light, and he controls all good things. But as we’ve seen, the line between bad things and good things is not only fuzzy, but it’s constantly changing. So for Lila to be brought to Luke, is to her, a death sentence. But she doesn’t want to go to Leo either, because although she’s an angel, she’s been earthbound for too long, and she’s…changing. He sold her out when she was an angel, she doesn’t know what he’ll do to her if she’s different.

Once Rayce catches up to Lila, he knows more than ever that she’s his mate. But she’s skittish and thinks he’ll turn her over for Luke to do whatever he wants to her. All she knows about Rayce is that he’s a vicious, uncontrolled beast who will do anything for Luke. Rayce admits that it’s all pretty much true, which isn’t exactly comforting for Lila. But he also takes care of her, feeds her, helps her, and is basically not scary or vicious to her at all. If she’s wrong about Rayce, what else might she be wrong about? She can’t trust Leo, she doesn’t trust Rayce, what’s an angel to do?

I liked Lila and Rayce together, and I liked how powerful she was. She was a strong adversary, and while she was new to feelings, and well, earth in general, she learned quickly. I think the two of them were a great couple, and I liked that their main villain of the piece was also partly Luke’s fault. I really can’t wait for him to wake up to the fact that maybe he isn’t the good brother after all. And then I want his story.

Now the only part I didn’t like was that Rayce’s beast is so savage, and so alpha, that he scares packs, so he doesn’t have one. I think the idea being he’s made his own pack with Julian, Luke, and now their mates. But I wish that had been shown better. I kept expecting there to be some sort of amends made with his original pack, and to find out that his beast was just fine how it was, but he really was considered too dangerous to be around others. I guess? I don’t know. He seemed pretty in control of his beast to me. I get that when he was young it was different, but he’s older and stronger now, so I figured that would be a part of his story arc.

That notwithstanding, I loved this book, and this series, and I hope I’m correct that the next book will have a paranormal character that we see very very rarely, and I’m incredibly excited for it!

With Cynthia Eden’s trademark style of mixing suspense, action, and romance, the Bad Things series is quickly becoming my favorite Paranormal Romance series out there. We need more Paranormal Romances.

Finished, review to come.

And finally...we review!!

The reason why this book gets 3 stars, is because I was not feeling it. It took me 6 days to finish. And I ploughed through it, in that at times, I had to dig deep and continue reading. I don't know why, and yet all the other 3 books went very fast.

Rayce goes after Lila. Lila is actually turning into a demon. So, the book is about Rayce saving her from Kale, a new enemy. I think what I like about every book, is that there is a brand new enemy for each couple. But, Leo is still being an arsehole. Buuuuut, I love what Luke pointed out, who said that he was the bad twin just because he's the Lord of the dark, and yet for all 4 books, we can trace all the mishaps to Leo?

At the end, Luke hints at going after the Muse next. Will I read it? Probably. Let's wait for the blurb. Overall, my favourite part of this book was actually the last two chapters, because we think Lila is done for, then it's Rayce, but then they save each other, Rayce moreso than Lila, then Luke is there to meddle like the fairy godmother that he is turning out to be. In fact, from here on out, his nickname will be Fairy Godmother, and Leo's will be The Wicked Witch of the West.

Can you say AMAZING?! Well let me tell you, Ms. Eden does not disappoint with the 4th book in her BAD THINGS series! Even though each of these books can be read as a stand alone, it is better to have read the first 3 to clear up about some of the characters. This series centers around 2 brothers, Luke and Leo. Luke is the leader for what is considered the "bad" paranormal and Leo the leader of the "good" paranormal. So you are introduced to both Rayce and Lila in the previous book. Lila was betrayed by Leo and held prisoner until Rayce, Luke, and Julian rescued her and her cell mates. BROKEN ANGEL continues months later. Lila had run off and Rayce, the most powerful werewolf is hunting her at Luke's request. Rayce has no issue with this because he knows Lila is his mate and he will do anything to find his mate. Rayce catches up to Lila who is selling one of her feathers for money, but you find out quickly Rayce isn't the only one that has been hunting Lila.

Good luck putting this book down, Ms. Eden as always pulls you into the world she creates full suspense and passion!

Rayce is one of my favorite characters in the Bad Things series. From the moment he saw Lila, he’s been protective of her. He’s strong and fierce. Add in his unwavering loyalty to Luke, he’s awesome. I love how he wants to protect Lila and make things better for her.

Lila was a bit soft to my opinion, but that’s how you’d expect an angel who feels too much and to have known only pain to be like. I figure, Cynthia Eden did a great job with her character in portraying an angel who was betrayed, had only known pain and is confused on who she is now.

Add in Luke and Leo to spice up the story. I really don’t like Leo. For the Lord of Light, he sure has zero principles and does more “bad” things than Luke. And he tries to justify his actions. He’s such a douchebag. For a devil, Luke has more standards than he does.

Another delightful contribution to the Bad Things series, Broken Angel is fast-paced, packed with action and full of twists and turns that keep you at the edge of your seat.
