Calliope 'Cali' Minter has been missing for several years, and is presumed dead, killed by Cain, the mysterious and vicious serial killer terrorizing New York.
Her family haven't given up hope however, and hire Meghan and Beth Petersen to search for Cali. The case is old, the trial is cold and the twins are ready to give up when a man is murdered in broad daylight, in front of Meghan. In his hand is a photograph, Cali's.
Before they know it, the twins are sucked into a investigation that has more dead ends than clues, more dead bodies than answers, and more gangsters than witnesses. Helping them is Zeb Carter, their friend, and the most lethal man they know.
Even Zeb may not be enough as their investigation takes them across the country and beyond, to deep rooted conspiracies and killers the likes of whom they have never encountered before.
The search for a missing woman just might turn into a dead end. A dead ending for the three of them.

This series is a spin off to the main series “The Warriors”.
“Defending Cain” is the second role played by twin sisters Beth and Meghan Peterson as main characters. The twins in this episode will get involved in a search for Calliope Minter, missing and presumed killed by Cain, a vicious serial killer who is terrorizing New York.
Of course those who are fan of Mr. Patterson will know that the story will feature kick ass players, ones who will provide never ending action to entertain us till the very last words. To keep us captive and turning pages, the author never forgets to weave some kind of conspiracy into his unique and complex scenarios. The story is never a single story, multiple threads will eventually connect but meanwhile we are kept on our toes. This latest is a thrilling ride from the beginning to the end. I agree this is another brain teaser that brings layers of clues, many red-herrings and many dead ends…..
Again no fancy style here, words are rather plain and down to earth, the characters are good but not out of the ordinary, the story line may be over the top for some but I found it quite entertaining. Looking forward to see what comes up next.
Again, Ty, Zeb and the twins take us on another international conspiracy full of murder, mayhem and intrigue. If you're not reading "The Warrior" series from Ty you are missing out on on the best action and adventure book series out there today. Make a point to try them, you won't be disappointed !
I just finished reading Defending Cain, the second book of The Gemini series by Ty Patterson, and I feel like I have just been through a war! I received this copy from the author as part of his launch team, but that has no bearing on my review. The story opens with the twins,Beth and Meghan, involved in the search for a young researcher who has been missing a few years. The twins work with several others for a secretive company ,a company only the highest in the government know about. I felt pulled right into the story, unable to put it down,as the action continued and suspense grew! The writing carries you along,as you feel as if you are part of what is happening. There are several situations that are very clearly described,as are the descriptions of places and people. Anyone who enjoys thrillers should definitely pick this book up,as it can be read as a stand alone but is so much better if you read The Warrior series and the first in The Gemini series. Whew, I need to catch my breath...
This is my first review of a book ever. Love this new series. Eagerly await each new book. I like that the characters don't always figure out each clue. Well defined plot and characters. I am hooked on both series. Keep them coming.
Defending Cain Review by Ty Patterson 10/9/16 Would you believe a serial killer?

“I received this for being an advanced reader for the author. Besides getting all the good books in advance of hitting the market and have the opportunity to share my remarks, I love being part of the team that works with authors as they share each new book that they pen”.
What did I like? There were two things that I loved about this book, the first being the twins. This case was more about them than we have seen in the past and they have grown into two of the most awesome, kick ass girls, that don’t take names when they take them down. We have watched them from the day that Zeb broke down and added them to the group to this book and the growth has been amazing. I guess you can’t tell that I really love this series and that I really enjoy each and every book that I have read and that is ALL of them!!! Zeb is there and he is all about being the unseen behind the scenes type of guy that he is, there but not there. Of course, the theme of the whole series has not changed and that’s what makes them totally believable.
What are you going to like? A continuing storyline that will take your breath away with each and every book as it grows with the work that the team is suited for, working to help people with their problems. Finding the ones that everyone else has really given up hope on and making a difference in people’s lives. Each of the characters in Ty’s books is remarkably developed and each has taken on a life of their own. The storylines are incredibly researched and you can jump into the action as you see it from each characters eye, feel the tension, watch the action and sigh with relief when it ends. Open to page one and not lay it down till the last page has turned but know that that is not the end. Feel the air in the locations as they fold off the pages and see it in your mind’s eye. The details won’t leave you hanging, the characters will make you laugh; hold your breath right down to the remarkable computer that is having a love affair. It goes without saying that I highly recommend this series to anyone that wants a great read that includes mystery, intrigue, laughter, emotions, sometimes some tears, interesting and totally believable storylines starting with the Warrior series and on into the Gemini Series.
Ty Patterson writes high action books that keep your attention. I am amazed that his plots parallel what is happening in the world. Really opens your eyes to what could be if we didn’t have people such as Zeb Carter in our world. As close to real as fiction can be.
Exciting and fast action it's a great book I highly recommend The twins are spot on communicating their thoughts, well trained by Zeb their boss and protector
I think this second book of the series was perhaps even better than the first, Dividing Zero and I loved that one! A tense, intricately woven conspiracy story, with the twins, Meghan and Beth, and the head of The Agency, Zeb, at its centre.
A murdered man, a missing young woman and a serial killer on the loose and that's just the beginning of this action-packed conspiracy thriller.
Complex and unique scenarios, a vast array of unusual characters and some killer twists made this a tense, adrenaline filled, but incredibly enjoyable read.
A really good series that is well worth checking out. Different to the author's Warrior series, but equally compelling.
Highly recommended.
I received an ARC from the author in return for an honest review.
I am a huge Lee Child / Jack Reacher fan and was suffering withdrawal when waiting for each new book UNTIL I found Ty Patterson and Zeb Carter. Now all is well with my world. When I'm looking for a thrilling ride along with some very talented, intelligent 'protectors' the Ty Patterson stories are the answer. There is non-stop action and in this case you can never anticipate what is coming next. One major difference between the Reacher books and the Zeb Carter stories is that Zeb has a group of very tight friends who form his team. Through the superb character development of the author, you come to know each of these Zeb Carter team members through the Warriors Series and that relationship continues in the Gemini Series. Zeb often goes off on his own to research or vanquish a foe but he always returns in time to back up his people, his partners.
This story begins with the death of serial killer Cain but if you think that is the story-line, think again. There is never a single story line because that would be much too simple. There are always threads that lead to interconnected events and people and maybe they are important or perhaps they are just there to throw you off balance. I love it when "the beast" comes within Zeb to provide the extra that he needs to center and win whatever battle he is fighting. I wonder, tell me, is Meghan Peterson, perhaps, interested in an older man?
Ty Patterson's books are absolutely one-click purchases for me. Often times a new story leads to a late night and/or late to work. Yes, the stories are that good.
Another brain teaser with complex clues, international politics, a secret team that works with all other agencies, however, they don't know who the team works for, and some really evil, complicated, intelligent villains from Ty Patterson.
The twins, Beth and Meghan, are a part of the team working security to find the daughter of an important man in the country, thought to be kidnapped by a serial killer—Cain. Three years and the family hasn't given up. When Cain himself is murdered, on the way to find Beth with a picture in his hand, it brings focus to the case again and new hope.
Mr. Patterson brings layers and layers of clues, many dead ends, manyand layers of clues, many dead ends, many opening new cases, but you never know if they solve something that it is the real mystery. It usually isn't, maybe it's connected and maybe it isn't. I am usually pretty good at discerning clues and figuring out WHO DONE IT, however not in one of his books have I ever figured out the answer, at least not before he reveals all.
The team is made up of unique individuals, highly skilled in combat and tech, genius IQ and street smarts, and they all excel in snark. Zeb leads the Warrior team with all of the above and more. Will he meet his match in this one?
It is a pager turner that acts like a corkscrew for the mind. Just keeps it turning until it pops on page number THE END. The strongest recommend from me. I was provided an ARC for an honest review.
"The blade slipped between Cain's third and fourth rib." When Meghan reached the fallen man in his hand is a photograph of the woman she has been searching for.
With the first line the suspense starts and leads you along with Meghan and her sister Beth as their search for answers goes from New York to California to the Mid East and back. When the leads takes a few turns Meghan and Beth didn't expect they just might need the help of a few special Warriors to take this case to it's conclusion.
This book keeps you on the edge with no thought of letting you put it down. Well written fast paced action! The next book written by Ty Patterson can't be here quick enough.
I received an advanced copy of the book in exchange for an unbiased review.
The twins and friends continue to find those who need their help, and help them. Action, suspense and twists. A good fiction escape from my daily life. Not a book I could put down until I finished it. Looking forward to the next one.
