Likable read!
Radclyffe created a storyline/series that is filled with erotic sex scenes, medical references/scenery and violent drug confrontations that could easily fit into a movie scene or film. This author never holds back on the things or the style in which she writes because she is as descriptive as ever in this book and even down to her long detailed in the plotline. Furthermore her writing style has always been about the senses; you can hear, feel, taste and see everything that is going on. There are lots of different relationships at play in this storyline which i had a bit of a hard time keeping track of all their home lives never mind that this story lacks something like maybe chemistry and energy between all the cast. I had so many unanswered questions at the end:- like the hetero relationship one of the main character had in the past (i'm scratching my head with that part of the story)

4 1/2 Stars. I'm a huge fan of Radclyffe, and am always excited to get my hands on one of her books. I especially love some of her earlier series like her Justice series and Provincetown series. When I heard this book was going to be full of Justice series people, I could not wait to read this. I am so happy this book was everything I love about the First Responders and Justice series.

They way the First Responders series is written, each book is it's own story. You can read them in any order. Now this book is a little different, because it is basically Justice Series 6.5 if you count the prequel A Matter of Trust. Can you read this book without reading the Justice Series first? Absolutely. The only problem is you will be learning a lot of new characters, and you will not have the connection to them, like I did reading all the previous books. I did not think Radclyffe would write another Justice book. It really was such a treat to be able connect to these women again. My only small complaint, there was only a little of Sloane and no Michael. Michael and Sloane are one of my favorite lesfic couples, so it was disappointing. I do understand it though, they would not have fit into the story as well, I still wanted a Micheal cameo though.

Beyond the Justice Series folks, the main story focuses on Jay and Olivia. Jay, if my memory is correct, was a secondary character in Trauma Alert, First Responders book 1. There are also a few appearances from Ali and Beau. You would not have to read that book first, and to add, it was nice to see Ali again. Anyway, Olivia is a new character, as far as my memory remembers. She is the Assistant Chief Medical Examiner, and takes her job very seriously. When Jay, a former trauma surgeon, shows up in her office for a job, Olivia thinks she is unqualified. Pressure from the top lands Jay the job. Can Jay handle the job? And can they keep working together despite the fierce attraction?

One of the things I enjoy about Radclyffe's writing, is her characters. She is really good at crafting characters that you would either want to hang out with or date. What was great about Olivia and Jay, their chemistry was off the charts. I mean totally smoking hot the two of them. I have not read that much chemistry in a while. The sex scenes were pretty intense also.

Not only was the chemistry and romance good, the overall story was good. I was riveted with all the medical examiner scenes. I never thought I woulds say that, but it was so damn interesting. With shows like CSI, crime scene techs get all the glory. But medical examiners are just as important, and I was extremely interested in all their scenes. They were very well written.

Overall, this book checked all the boxes that I look for in a good read. A great romance with an interesting storyline, that kept me turning the pages. I wish there could somehow be a sequel with all these same characters. I want more of the medical examiners, and the Justice crew. This is an easy book for me to recommend.

An ARC was given to me by BSB, for a honest review.

Heart Stop is the sixth book in the First Responders series and the first one I have read. I was a big fan of the Provincetown and Honor series but never read the Justice series. In hindsight this put me at a big disadvantage reading Heart Stop. There are cameo appearances by many couples from the Justice series. Many. So many that I struggled to keep the many couples straight. Fortunately they all play minor roles and carry the subplot, a subplot which provides the majority of bodies to keep our leading ladies occupied when they are not busy falling in love with each other.

So why would I choose to read a book knowing I would have little knowledge of the majority of the cast of characters? Medical Examiners. Doctors of the Dead. I love me some ME page time. My personal favourites in the fictional world will always be Dr. Li Morris from JD Robb’s In Death series and the sexy and secretive Dr. Maura Isles, not the one in the television series, the sultry ME in Tess Gerritsen’s Rizzoli and Isles novels. A Medical Examiner rarely gets the spotlight (except in fictional settings) and yet they are tasked with interpreting unexplainable deaths to families and law enforcement. In Heart Stop, Olivia Price, Assistant Chief Medical Examiner fills the bill and then some. It takes a meticulous perfectionist with an excellent sense of deduction and reasoning to see and understand what a body on the gurney is telling them. Olivia is an excellent ME. She is driven and dedicated. Doctors scramble to win a chance at a fellowship to be trained under her excellent tutelage.

Jay Reynolds was a trauma surgeon until a serious accident forced her to step back from the action and pace of the operating theatre and agree to apply for a fellowship with the pathology department. She is as reluctant to force her way into a program which may or may not be suitable to her physical abilities as Olivia is reluctant to replace one of her chosen fellows with Jay. Both women are placed in uncomfortable positions by their friends and associates and choose to make the most of their obligations.

Fans of Radclyffe know her background as a surgeon. They know she writes strong female characters and adds plenty of spice when it comes to sexy time with her couples. Sometimes the focus on medicine can be too detailed and bore the reader. My fascination with ME’s had me loving every scene in the morgue and out in the field.Sexy time was still in abundance with the visiting former couples but Radclyffe allowed Olivia and Jay time to find their own connections and build their relationship slowly. I loved their scenes together. You could feel the sexual tension spark between them and for me that is hotter than any between the sheets adventures.

I may have come into this read at a disadvantage not having read the other books in this or the Justice series but I felt I was rewarded with a great read just the same. Olivia and Jay are a strong enough pairing that this can be read as a standalone novel. Seeing the other characters interact may have peeked my curiosity, especially the pairing of Dell and Sandy. Sandy’s backstory sounds like a winner.

I really enjoyed this book. I only picked it up last night and I just could not put it down. It has a bit of everything. The main characters are very realistic, the chemistry between the two main characters is hot and there is just enough angst in there to give it a realistic feel.

The two main characters are Dr Jay Reynolds who has been in a horrific car accident and is looking to changing careers from a successful Trauma surgeon to a career in pathology. Then you have Dr Olivia Price who is an extremely excellent Assisstant Chief Medical Examiner. She is an extremly serious person who is dedicated to her job and her expectations are high for not only herself but for those she works with. She was also betrayed by her first love. She decided long ago that was no longer in her future.

Now the two meet in unusual circumstances of Jay beeing fast tracked on to her pathology programme. And the angst begins between the two main characters. Sexual tension and attarction starts. The two are like chalk and cheese. I can not say much more because I want you to enjoy it as much as I.

Also, you get to meet some old friends from the justice series Rebecca Frye, Sloan, Catherine, Jason, Dell, Sandy and not forgetting Watts. Also Ali Torveau and Beau Cross. They all play very good cameo roles in an exciting and entertaining book. Radcliffe has been able to incorporate these characters as part of the main story. She does it with ease aswell. You find yourself missing them. I guess Ali plays the most influential of the characters. You also get a brief glimse of our favorite CSI Dee Flanagan.

I really enjoy Radcliffe. But this has something extra. I think it's the way she incorporated the Justice series as a back drop to this story. Radcliffe never ceases to amaze me. Always a new angel. I gave this 5 stars. I can not wait for more. Enjoy!

f you are a Radclyffe fan, you’re going to love this one. The romance of Heart Stop has all the right elements. Fantastic main characters, delicious romantic tension, and just enough angst to keep you riveted to the storyline. I adored this book!

Dr, Jay Reynolds is lucky to be alive. An almost life ending accident has changed the direction of Jay’s life. Jay was born to be a surgeon. This was her life plan for as long as she can remember. In the blink of an eye, everything has changed. Jay is no longer physically capable of surgery. She can’t stand for long periods of time and not to mention the tremor in her hands. A push from a friend Jay changes her medical career into the field of pathology.

Assistant chief medical examiner Olivia Price is 100% the job. She expects excellence not only from herself but everyone around her. Burned by her first love, Olivia has completely written off all aspects of love, nope, this is for others, not for her. She spends her time focusing on the dead, and giving them final respects and answering clues on how they met their end. She is fine with that. Of course, this all changes when a new student, is thrust upon her.

Right off the bat, you have two things, a lot of tension and a lot of attraction. Let me tell you, I loved every second of Jay and Oliva’s story. It’s interesting, it’s hot and Radclyffe gives you just the right amount of push and pull to keep you riveted to their story. Secondly, there is a crime element of this book. If you have followed Radclyffe’s books you are going to meet up with a lot of past characters. Rebecca Frye and Catherine Rawlings, Dellon Mitchell and Sandy Sullivan, Dr. Ali Torveau and Beau Cross are all in here somehow connected to our main characters and looking for who a fatal synthetic heroin has ended up on the streets of Philadelphia. I think when you have a book that includes past characters you walk a thin line of whose book is this. Radclyffe does a good job of their cameos tying in directly to the story as a whole.

I always love a Radclyffe book, and this one I must say was a delight. I really, really liked Jay and Oliva’s dynamic. 4.25 stars

I can't help but seek out lesfic medical romances. For some reason I adore them, even though I have no idea why. Radclyffe is typically my go-to for these type of romances, as I love the way she details the medical world. It's just enough to seem realistic, but not enough to feel as though you are learning about the ins and outs of anatomy.

Heart Stop was a great read. I loved being in the world of a Medical Examiner and this book seemed to also feature a lot of complex cases. I will admit that I was slightly lost with all of the secondary characters mentioned, which I realised were characters from other books by Radclyffe within the Justice series. I've yet to read this series so didn't know the background of these characters and found it a tad overwhelming to keep everyone straight in my head. In saying that though, some of these secondary characters were particularly intriguing, so it's definitely pushed me to catch up on their stories :)

All in all, a great book by Radclyffe but it definitely left me with quite a few unanswered questions...

Really enjoyed it - a light read that sails along - both a romance (very well written - 5 out of 5) and sort of crime (less interesting though gave a welcome chance for old characters to reappear 3 out of 5) - didn't realise overlap with another Radclyffe series (Justice Served). But again, a sudden ending.

Highly recommended.

I love Radclyffe. I've read everything she has written. So, of course, I had to read her new book asap. Great writing, great characters, great sex scenes, great cameos... but I found the story itself not very interesting.

A few months ago I was scouring through Goodreads looking for ff books featuring medical examiners and here's one with two. Radclyffe never goes wrong with doctors as she scores again here. She's portrayed the mystery and the romance equally well. One of her best in recent times.

If you love medical romances, you have to pick this book up. Right now. I don't love medical romances but the procedural, crime, and medicals parts of the plot were riveting.

Flash and Olivia are both driven and brilliant in this romance between a disabled trauma surgeon and a workaholic medical examiner. Brains and talent are hella sexy.

This admiration for fierce and exacting spirits is clearly the love song between these two. The sexy times are very hot but we don't get much of them as they have work to do.

If you are a fan of this series you will love all the chapters in past couples points of view. It is seamless and well written.

This is my first book in the series so while I liked those chapters I wanted more couple time with the main characters. I also want more romance and intimacy (emotionial and physical). Olivia's backstory and how it actually plays out in a relationship for example.

Looking the the other books in the series, I can see the romances are followed over several books. This kind of plotting is not my favorite but the writing here is excellent and I would highly recommend this writer.

I was given this book for my honest review. So, there you have it.

Radclyffe's got a definite way with words. She's excellent with character development and relationships. The two leads are interesting and their romance is one to root for. If you're a fan of her Justice Series you'll be pleasantly surprised to see some of those characters pop up here. If you haven't read that series you might be a little lost, but not enough to wreck the enjoyment of this book.

Loved it!

Glad to see that this story does not only focus on the two main characters Olivia and Jay but the rest of the cast from the Justice series. I liked Sandy being a police detective now with her background she humanizes the people the interacts with. I also liked that the author brought back two of my favorite characters Ali and Beau. I was hoping they would further input into these stories. Overall, a job well done!

The First Responders series just isn't for me. I've done quite well staying away from it, but this sounded good.

Add to that that characters from the Justice series were resurrected and I was all in.

So yeah... it's a continuation of the Justice plot, but I had conveniently forgotten how much I wanted that series to be over by the end. It had gotten more an more shallow and that was continued here. Sandy and Dell, such an interesting couple, were once more reduced pretty much to sexual interaction, and if not doing it then definitely thinking about it. It's such a shame as these characters have so much more to offer.

I liked the main characters ok. I did enjoy seeing Jay trying to get a handle on her new career. That part fully delivered for me.

One problem I often have with lesfic series is that by the end of it, pretty much all important characters are lesbians. Same here. I can't even specifically say what bothers me about this, but it does.

I don't know what I would have made of this if I hadn't remembered the Justice series as well as I did. I think I might have felt lost with all these characters and plotlines.

Well developed nicely executed plot. Interesting setting, nicely developed main characters, hot sex scenes...the list goes on and on.

Review of Heart Stop by Radclyffe

This book is number 6 in the First Responders series but it is also a continuation of the Justice series. The reader can catch up with some of the most iconic characters of that series (Frye, Dell, Sandy, Sloan, among others) along with Ali Torveau and Beau Cross of First Responders # 1 Trauma alert. Despite the "old" characters, Heart Stop can be read as a stand alone book. However, this book is so much than that as it introduces the reader to the lives of Dr Jay Reynolds, a former surgeon who had to switch her career to Medical examiner as a result of an accident, and her boss, Assistant Chief Medical Examiner Olivia Price. The plot follows their attraction and budding romance together with the investigation of a dangerous war between two crime organisations. Radclyffe balances the thriller and romance elements of the plot with her usual expertise and keeps the reader on the edge until the end that promises more contributions of Rebecca Frye's team.

My only criticism is that the book blurb doesn't describe the mystery/action aspect of the plot (though the cover gives a hint). The publisher only categorises it as a contemporary romance.

Overall, a very good mystery and romance read. 4.5 stars

What was most enjoyable was a coming together of some of my favorite characters/couples from other reads doing what they do best which is their passion for life, their dedication to the women they love and their determination in regard to their work. Life after an unfortunate tragedy gives us a bright light into what is possible with an attitude adjustment and outside encouragement. Jay Reynolds needs a reason to carry on with her medical career and what a strong group of supporters she has. Olivia Price is beating herself up and leading a solitary life. When Olivia and Jay meet, it is a wonderful coming together of two people that need each other.

I am rating this book 3.5 stars.

I am a fan of the First Responders series in particular Ali and Beau, its one of my favorite of Radclyffe's books. We also had the characters from the Justice series which I never completed because I started to get over that series, too many couples POV (moving from one sex scene to the next to the next). So when this was added into this story I was a little unsure if I liked that.

I liked the two main characters Jay and Olivia. I really liked Olivia no nonsense personalty. This is action packed book flipping around to a number of POV which I didn't mind but probably would have preferred to have just kept with Jay and Olivia's story. Their story felt superficial and quick in the end.

I am finding Radclyffe's books are losing some of the romance that I really enjoyed in some of her earlier books that I read. I loved having Ali and Beau in the book and the role they played.

If your a Radclyffe fan you will love this book with the mix of medical and crime. I did enjoy it but didn't think it was her best.

I rec'd an ARC from NetGalley/Bold Strokes Books in exchange for an honest review. Two 'damaged' characters Jay and Olivia are the leads in this medical romance with angst, some violence and of course sex. There are also supporting individuals from other books that are skillfully written in. My only disappointment - I wanted more of Jay and Olivia. Ms. Radclyffe writes stories that intrigue and excite and this one (as usual) hits those marks. 4.5 stars

So first I just want to say that I have read a lot of these books in succession and so it was nice to revisit Dell, Sandy, Frye and the gang. The problem is that the story line from the Justice series has still not been wrapped up. I feel like this just should have been Justice series #6. This book fell flat for me. Olivia and Jay just seemed like placeholders in another story. This didn't fee original or new. It felt stale and like I had read it all before. I think I just felt like Olivia and Jay were in his book because Radclyffe wanted another couple to put together. Overall the story was real light and didn't make a lot of sense. I guess I am just not feeling this insta love that happens in these books. It feels so fake.

One of the things I like about Radclyffe is the way she reintroduces characters from previous books to help set the scene and ground you with new stories and characters. Here that happens in spades! We get to meet up again with Ali and Beau from Trauma Alert and members of the Justice Team. This is a well crafted and interesting story of a surgeon, Jay, who's life is changed forever one rainy night. She transfers to a pathology, medical examiner department against the wishes of the Assistant Chief, Olivia. There are twists aplenty with firebombs, drug wars, gangs and a young Jane Doe. In the middle of all of this the damaged and disabled Jay finds a way back to some peace and indeed love. As ever Radclyffe handles the pace perfectly and the medical scenes are as detailed as ever.

Recommended if you like Radclyffe, if you've followed the Justice series or if you want an escapist book you can finish in a couple of sittings.

First let me preface this by saying I love all of Radclyffe's First Responders novels. This was no exception, but for some reason I couldn't fall in love with the main characters like I normally do. Jay and Olivia didn't do it for me for some reason. The premise of forensic pathology was fascinating and Radclyffe certainly did her homework on it, but I'm uncertain why the characters didn't click with me like they usually do. I guess I shouldn't say I don't know why completely because I do know one small reason. That reason was that I was way more interested in the secondary characters. One of my favorite Radclyffe couples Dellon and Sandy showed up and thats all it took to detract my attention. It also reminded me that it's way overdue for a new Justice series novel. The Justice series is one of my favorites with the combo of police work and technology. It was really nice to see the whole crew back for this novel, but now I want more. I want to know more about the mystery that happened. Would I be upset if Jay and Olivia showed up in the Justice series? Certainly not, because as I said the profession they represent was fascinating. I did enjoy the read and the fact that I didn't click with the main character would never detract me from gobbling up anything new Radclyffe wrote.

The story itself was ok and I enjoyed it, there were just a few things that bothered me and I couldn't get past them. The two main characters were well portrayed and their chemistry worked.
What bothered me and the reason for the two stars is that the point of view changed too suddenly- like one sentence was from Jay's view and the next sentence was from Olivia's view. I like it more when it changes with a clear line. Sometimes it was hard to figure out who said what and who's view is it now. Another negative point is that there was too much explaining of how things looked. Like every room and every person was described in too much detail and the result was that there wasn't enough dialogue to keep the story alive.
I know all of that is a writing choice and style - it is just not the right one for me.
I also don't like that in all of her books some characters (in this one not the main ones) are reduced to just sex and nothing else. It just gets boring after a while. And that all the semi important characters end up to be gay is kind of unrealistic and kind of bothers me. Like yes it is a lesbian book but not everybody needs to be a lesbian - it is just not how it works.

Heart Stop – Radclyffe

Two interesting women meet and clash personalities as they are forced to work together in the ME’s department. Assistant chief medical examiner Olivia Price is emotionally cut off and distant. She resents having somebody forced on her who hasn’t passed through the normal channels. Jay “Flash” Reynolds was a high-flying trauma surgeon until an accident left her physically damaged and emotionally bereft at the loss of her career. Forced by friends in high places to try out in a different discipline she is angry and resentful of the changes. Thrown together by chance and caught up in local drug wars the two women must find a way to work together.

This is a mashup from the Justice and Frist Responder Series’ and although it does work as a standalone you certainly get more from knowing the backstory of many of the secondary characters. Cops, trauma surgeons, firefighters, and now medical examiners all play a role with a host of characters re-appearing as minor characters. As with many of Radclyffe’s books it’s like touching base with old friends.

The crime story is somewhat secondary, while it plays an important part in the action of the novel it is more of a vehicle to the developing working relationship of the main characters; their increasing friendship and interdependence. As always the medical drama and detail is excellent and I always enjoy learning more about different disciplines within the medical world.

It’s fast paced, full of detail with multiple story arcs and re-visits, along with a slow burn romance and powerful women who need to grow into a relationship by overcoming their issues, both physical and emotional. Another strong Radclyffe story and a good cross over between series.

I love any series by Radclyffe. This one doesn't disappoint. Jay & Olivia are wonderful characters. I will share that in this book there is a lot more surgical and medical detail than I have read in previous work. I didn't expect that much detail of forensics, but if you are a fan of forensic mysteries you will love this book! I was just hoping for a little more emotional connection with the two characters. But in fairness, this is a book about pathology and is also tied in with a crime mystery, so it probably is leading into another book, where this detail is relevant.

There is plenty to enjoy in this book, as Olivia and Jay both are honest people with painful situations (one the past & one in the present) and there is a beautiful exchange between the two characters.

There are other characters in this book from previous novels, such as Rebecca & Catherine (two of my favorites), Sloan (missing Michael) & Sandy/Dillion. This reminds me how much I miss exploring Rebecca/ Catherine & Sloan/ Michael and would love another in depth book of their romantic journey.

Back the present book, I am glad to see their was an sweet and passionate connection with Olivia and Jay. The book also gives hope to those of us who 'suddenly' have life changes forced on us that alter us from what we 'think' are our dreams. Jay's journey gives us a lot of insight into the emotional struggles & peace that we have to make when life alters our course into a different direction. Olivia warms quickly to how hard it is to have a dream ripped out of your life.

It's a more technical book than any of her previous work, but it's still a beautifully book that crafts the journey of two souls who lives were altered by life and went out to find peace, joy, love & happiness.

After discussing (being teased about) my Radclyffe addiction with a friend this weekend. I ended up recommending she read this one if she was going to dip her reading toes back in the Rad pool of fiction. I've read it at least *cough* times, and I think out of Rad's later books, this is one of my favourites. After recommending it, I had no choice but to bow to my OCD and re-read the book myself.

Technically, this is part of the First Responder series which are usually stand-alones, but, in this one, a few old friends from the Justice series are part of the overall plot. Based on that - it's probably best if you've read the Justice series so you know who they are; although, there's probably enough background info that you can sort of figure stuff out but you may be wondering who these secondary characters are and why are they having hot sex in another couple's romance book.

I go back and forth on whether the inclusion of the Justice characters/ongoing police drama was really needed in this book. I think I would have been quite happy - make that more happy - if they were not and there was a more fleshed out story with Jay and Olivia. The Justice story line intersects - providing crime scenes and bodies for the main characters (Medical Examiners) - and we get a number of chapters that give an update on Del, Sandy, Rebecca and Catherine (Sloan, Jason and Watts make brief cameos) and where they are with the never-ending task of putting Zamora away ... and to confirm that yes, they still have really hot and heavy sex. Sometimes, I wonder if they had less sex, they may have been able to wrap up the Zamora case in book three or four ... rather than chewing through six books in the series and a couple of barge-ins on other books in different series. I think the characters of Jay and Olivia could have stood alone without the inclusion of the other story line, but it would have had to been expanded - even if it only ended up as novella length. Even so, the Justice over-story gives the main characters some ready made secondary characters and set up for how and when the bodies start falling and if you've read the other series, you'll be happy to see what's going on with them. It doesn't necessarily detract, but I do think the interludes with Sandy and Del take time away from the main characters that could have been used for further story and character build up.

Jay, a talented Trauma surgeon (dark and broody - just the way we like 'em), has recovered from a horrible accident which has resulted in her no longer being able to continue as a surgeon. Strings are pulled and she's been given a fellowship in the pathology department where she will train as a medical examiner under Dr Olivia Price. Olivia, the beautiful and aloof (ice queen ... ah, tropes how I love you) deputy medical examiner, reluctantly takes Jay into the training program and of course decides that she should work directly with Jay in order to evaluate her ability to transition from trauma to pathology. Immediately they are out to a crime scene, investigating and then back in the morgue for autopsies - all while fighting (not really all that hard) the burgeoning attraction between them. There's baggage and second guessing to deal with - and a little bit of a crime spree that makes sure that Jay and Olivia are working round the clock.

I think what I liked most about this one was the different angle - they are still doctors, but are medical examiners rather than hot shot surgeons. Let me restate .. they are hot shot medical examiners. I found this to be an interesting twist and the details surrounding this type of role were woven into the story line and kept my interest. Full disclosure - I loved early Patricia Cornwell and the BBC show Silent Witness, so I may have a morbid fascination with Medical Examiners (omigod .. I also watched Quincy re-runs when I was a kid). As characters go, Jay and Olivia could have had more page time - see comments about the Justice over-story - but I think that they had enough originality to separate them from the standard Rad archetypes. Jay isn't as cocky or as much of a player as some of Rad's docs - she is coming to grips with the crash and burn of her dreams of being a trauma surgeon and adapting to the new role as a medical examiner. Olivia is an interesting character who has some baggage that isn't fully explored - but she's a self-assured and confident doctor in her own right.

Despite all my whining about the inclusion of the Justice series (which I also enjoyed), I did enjoy this book and recommend it.

This is book six of Radclyffe’s First Responders series. I love anything written by Radclyffe and this book is no exception! As with each Responders book, Radclyffe focuses on one of the professions in this medical field. Through her books, I have come to appreciate learning more about these essential jobs.

In this particular book, Radclyffe looks at the area of Medical Examiners (ME). One of the leading ladies in this book is Jay Reynolds who was a trauma surgeon until injuries incurred in a major automobile accident caused her to switch medical fields. Jay became aware that an ME’s job encompasses more than just performing autopsies.

The other main character is Olivia Price, an ME at University Hospital in Philadelphia. One of her responsibilities is to train the doctors to become medical examiners. Olivia is a workaholic and is very precise in everything she does. After their initial meeting, Jay and Olivia are attracted to each other.

The subplot in this book brings in the characters from Radclyffe’s Justice series. I love the characters she has created in this series and was very happy when I read the book’s synopsis. Radclyffe does an excellent job of intertwining the characters from the different series.

The storyline is fast paced. From the beginning of the book, I was hooked. Radclyffe’s writing is very smooth. I loved the interaction between Jay and Olivia, as well as their contact with the secondary characters. The love story was believable.

You do not have to read any of the other books in this series or the Justice series to enjoy this book. I highly recommend Heart Stop and rate it with 5 out of 5 stars!

I was given this ARC in return for a fair and honest review.

I'm a huge fan of Radclyffe's series, and she managed not to disappoint in either of them! No matter which one you pick, you're in for a beautiful, intense, fun and loving ride! I love the way she introduces new characters and how they all seem to be complex, deep, well-developed people with real past, real feelings, real troubles... Jay Reynolds and Olivia Price are no exception. After having survived a terrible car accident, Dr Jay Reynolds is lucky to be alive, even with visible and permanent consequences. The accident put a stop on her brilliant trauma surgeon career, so she has to start all over - as a new resident under the guidance of Dr Olivia Price, chief medical examiner, who's not thrilled at all having her there. They will surely have to put their disagreements aside and work together after all, but more importantly - will Olivia be able to let Jay in, having terrible trust issues from past relationship?
Radclyffe is one of the rare authors whose books I'd re-read gladly... Each and every single one, from the start... There's no miss with them, no disappointments, no let downs. I'm eagerly expecting next one!

So, you're three days into the incredibly prestigious fellowship that's saving your career after a terrible accident wrecked your trauma surgery prospects (*eyeroll* play another record, Radclyffe). Your previous boss, who also happens to be your sister's best friend pulled strings to get you this spot and it's basically your last chance saloon. You're working directly with the assistant chief because she doesn't trust the candidate she's been forced to hire (sounds a touch like Fated Love methinks) and you find yourself really attracted to her. Normal person, even a fictional person; perv on boss at work, shag someone more appropriate. Radclyffe damaged heroine; kiss boss during a discussion on unusual findings in blood chemistry...for fuck's sake.

I've actually started writing this review before I've finished the book, as my mind was so blown by the madness of this scene (and I've read most of Radclyffe's books so I'm used to the ridiculous narratives). I look forward to reading the chat with HR about inappropriate workplace behaviour and the need for a new supervisor, if not a new fellowship location!

Finished it, there was no chat with a lady from HR, so disappointing.

What Radclyffe did include is a series of cameos from Ali & Beau, Frye & Catherine, Sandy & Dell, Sloan (but no Michael, Jason & baby (but no Sarah); while it's nice to see these characters again it was like getting a bite of what everyone else is having for dinner when your out for a meal but not been allowed to order anything yourself! In the final few chapters we get a glimpse of Rebecca Frye of old getting her teeth into something but it's overshadowed by ridiculous non-dramatic mooning from the supposed leads. Hopefully this is just to whet our appetites for a proper Justice Series novel coming out soon; it doesn't necessarily need a new romantic pairing, (although I'm sure one will be thrown in for good measure), I would be totally happy to read about catching Zamora interspersed with scenes of Sandy & Dell or Catherine & Rebecca riding each other! Along with Honor & Quinn and Cameron & Blair they are Radclyffe's best couples; much stronger individuals and characters than many of her others, as well as being a touch more realistic.

Short version: worth reading if your desperate to see how Rebecca Frye and the HPCU are getting on.
