Samuel Delaney is a complex character- he has a dark past to tie up upon receiving the letter from Ireland, and even harder truths to accept when he visits his homeland of Ireland after 13 years away in the UK. So, it is important to mention that Hidden is not one of those template, fluffy, summery contemporary romances. It is way darker than I expected and those secrets the blurb promises, let’s just say, I couldn’t wait to find about the truth. The biggest and darkest truth of them all hit me like a ton of bricks, much like it hit Samuel.

There is no beating around the bush when it comes to revealing Samuel’s very difficult and heartbreaking childhood as the book starts with a chapter through the eyes of a 7-year-old Sam. From the get-go, as a reader, I was prepared for a less than light-hearted subject matter. Fast forward to the present, Samuel is a 33-year-old broody guy who now runs a pub in the UK, battles his personal hell through nightmares and keeps his past strictly to himself. Even his best friend/girlfriend Faye doesn’t know the truth about him. When legalities require Samuel to return to Ireland, not only does he have to face the past he passionately hates, he also jeopardises his relationship with Faye.

Sam is a stubborn man. He is proud and private. As a character, he is also a realistic example of someone life has hurt deeply and has been left emotional scars that will never, ever disappear. Mentally, he has a way to bring himself back from the brink and it involves turning pain into pleasure.

If I wouldn’t have had to sleep for work the next day, I would have read this book in one sitting. Yes, it’s the promise of unravelling secrets that hooked me, but the flowing writing style, the realistic male POV and the apt Irish setting also played their part. Speaking of the Irish setting, Amelia carried the rural way of life which can often be stuck in its quirky, sleepy or ignorant ways through detail I have come to recognize over the years I’ve lived in Ireland.

And finally, before wrapping up this review, I would like to address the sexual content of this particular book, because I know some of my followers would like to know. This book is not riddled with sex scene after sex scene. More than graphic intimacy in between Samuel and Faye, the reader will instead get more of alone time with Samuel, but it’s different. Knowing the heavy weight Sam’s soul carries, the moments he spends with himself, his hand and a piece of string has a whole different purpose than to offer that erotic ‘air’… I don’t know, it was just bittersweet somehow, also those few scenes weren’t overdone nor frequent.

Overall, this was a gripping read for me, and even though I finished the book some days ago, I find myself still thinking about it. With a heavy soul, somewhat, but also with a bit of hope and excitement for what awaits me in book #2, Revealed.

For taking me by surprise, for introducing me to Samuel- a male character that is far from perfect, emotionally broken and simply a regular guy, for highlighting the importance of family and for showing the impact of hiding or revealing secrets, this indie gem is worthy of all the stars.

Hidden by Amelia J Hunter is the first book I have read from this Author. It will not be my last.

This book takes you on a fantastic trip of love loss and friendship. Set in the beautiful Irland.

Samuel was born in Irland but had a very hard childhood and at very Young age he moved in with his auntie. As soon as he was old enough to move away he did and moved to the UK. He found love and friendship in a girl named Faye but one day his world changed with just one letter with an Irish stamp on it. Faye could see it change him with just one look at the envelope.

Would he let Faye in and tell her his most hidden secrets? Will Faye stay to listen to them if he does tell them her? Is it too late or will love win?

I can't wait for book 2. More twists and turns I can feel on the way. I already have and will recommend this author and book. If I could I would give more than 5 star's.

I’m unsure how to start with this book and that is not a bad thing. This is the first book that I have read by this author and it has left me wanting more. It gives you a tale of despair, love, friendship, and finding truth.

Samuel had a very rough start to life, living with a mother who didn’t want to be around him and dealing with demons of her own that Samuel didn’t know about, he was rescued and sent to live with his Aunt. But as soon as Samuel was old enough he left his home in Ireland and started again in the UK where no one knew him. There he started his bar and built a life for himself with his girlfriend Faye, until the day he received a letter bringing his past and present colliding together. Now he must face his demons and those of his family to have a future. But will his past haunt him enough to lose the one woman he has let in?

Read on behalf of A Book Lover’s Emporium

Wow! I started this book with tears and finished it in tears. What a great story! It’s a sad one and so emotional, which I love.
Samuel ran from his past years ago. He’s managed to keep the broken parts of him hidden from others and wants to keep it that way. The arrival of a letter forces his secrets that he’s buried so deep back to the surface, so he can no longer hide from them. His struggle to do so is tough to read, as he sorts through feelings of his past. He’s not the only one burdened with secrets, there’s more… more secrets, more lies, more pain.

His family and friend Faye are willing to help him if he’ll let them. His friend Faye is such a strong person and has to make some hard choices to help Samuel. I love her character and her tough love strategies.

I just finished it a few minutes ago and wanted to write this while it is so fresh in my mind and my emotions are still crisp, eyes still teary. I’m ready for book two Amelia J Hunter, I’m ready to see how he’s doing on his journey towards healing those wounds. This is the first book I’ve read by Amelia, I look forward to more. Her story is clear and you can’t help but love these characters. There are some lighter moments, which I’m glad she added since it was pretty heavy on my heart.

Secrets ... Hidden... will always emerge... heart shattering and emotional read

HIDDEN is the first book in the Uncovered Series, and it is the first book that I have had the pleasure of reading by this author. To say that my emotions were overwhelmed by Samuel's story is an understatement. it is a beautifully written story of love and friendship, secrets and truth, and joy and despair.

Samuel's past is about to catch up with him. It is something that he has blocked out and kept hidden from his world since he was moved to Ireland. It is something he wants no one to learn about. Unfortunately his aunt has other ideas. a letter is about to turn his idyliic world upside down. This book is a rough read, emotionally. Watching Samuel suffer as he deals with his secrets, the ones he knows about and brand new ones is heart shattering. Helping him is his Faye, his friend and the woman who he deeply loves.

What will the revelations of his past do to their relationship? Will his life ever be the same again, now that his secrets are revealed?

Ms Hunter's descriptions of Ireland and england are so realistic, it was as if I became part of the story, and not just a spectator watching the events occur. this is not the end of Samuel's story, and I really look forward to reading the next chapter in his life.

This is a book I highly recommend be read. I am definitely going to look into her other books.

Hidden is the first book from Amelia that I’ve read and honestly I’m glad I had this opportunity!

The story is told mostly by Samuel. He slowly reveals his past when he receives a letter from his childhood country of Ireland. He up and leaves his best friend of ten years who is also his girlfriend, Faye.

He was the bad boy the guys wanted to be, the girls wanted to have and adults couldn’t find a reason to hate.

Faye knows something isn’t right. The mysterious letter has caused him nightmares and he just up and leaves the country.

When Samuel later asks to join him in Ireland to take care of a few things secrets are revealed.

”Secrets and lies, Samuel. We all have them. Some are bigger than others, but most we take to our graves.”

Will Faye be able to overcome his past?

I was pleasantly surprised by this book by Amelia J. Hunter. I have not read her before but the fact that much of this book takes place in Ireland really was why I wanted to read it. As I was reading, I wasn't sure how I felt about it at first. But the more I read, the more Sam grew on me. There are some difficult issues that are dealt with and while not a super steamy book, the love between both Sam and Faye as well as Sam and his aunt was just beautiful...and although we don't really know what happens next with Sam and Faye...I am looking forward to reading more from this author and this series. The author's descriptions of Ireland really were wonderful since I was traveling there while I read the book!

Hidden, by Amelia Hunter is a story that will provoke thoughts and emotions. The book is well written and the characters are well developed. Samuel has a hidden past that he would rather forget. Faye is the love of his life, but he cannot confide in her for fear that she will leave his because of his past. He has changed his name and moved from Ireland to England and trying to forget his past when he gets a letter that brings back the nightmares. Can he face his past and make amends? Will Faye still love him?

I enjoyed this book, except for the frequent use of the f-word and graphic sex scenes. This was a "quirky blind date with an author" and I received this book as a gift. I always review every book that I read. If you do not mind language and sex, then you would probably enjoy this book

This was my first read by Amelia J Hunter so I went in with open expectations. And wow.

I couldn't put this book down. Upon meeting Sam we learn he is hiding secrets from his past which are tearing him apart from his girlfriend Faye, when he unexpectedly leaves her behind in England to go back to his home of Ireland where his secrets are hidden.

Through the story the author drops hints as to what Sam's secrets may be - though we know they involve his mother. I had an inkling at one, but the biggest secret of all is kept until we are nearing the end.

Sam as a character, I really liked him and felt so much sorrow for him through the pages, but he was a little frustrating at times because of his stubbornness! I felt for Faye too; she just wanted to help Sam but he wouldn't let her in.

This book pulled at my heartstrings. It was so well written and didn't seem rushed or dragged at all; it was just the right pace. Full of raw emotion and I couldn't stop reading, I always wanted to know what happened next. One of those books where "just another chapter" leads to another, and another, and another!

Highly recommend this by Amelia J Hunter and I'm already stuck into the next book, Revealed.

Secrets don't stay hidden forever. There are always things that we don't want people to know. But they always come out when you do not want them too. Samuel does not want to deal with the past he just wants to let it lay. But how can he when his Aunt won't let him. He has to come to terms with it but will he lose Faye in the process. Don't miss this book.

I wasn’t honestly sure where this story was going or if I was enjoying it or not. However by the end of it I was so engrossed that I immediately bought the second book. A bit of a slow burner but once it got going I was drawn into the storyline.

What an interesting story that takes many turns. Samuel wasn't raised in the best environment and despised the woman who gave birth to him. When he left Ireland, he believed that he was done with her and his homeland, but he was wrong. Wrenched from his current life while trying to run from his past, he finds himself at rock bottom with no one to lean on and hidden truths. Can Samuel move past his past to embrace his future or will he continue to make past mistakes?

Hidden

This book was a different read for me. It follows Samuel, an Irish man who ran from his life 10 years ago, but it has finally caught up to him. Faye is his love interest, but he pushes her away in an attempt to keep her from his hidden life. It sucks him up and gladly spits him out on the other end. There is definitely no resolution in this book, so book 2 seems to be a must.

3.5 stars!!

This book starts off in such a bad place. My heart hurt and I almost shed tears and throughout the book I felt the same. I think this book is very detailed and planned out well.
My problem with the book is it drags on and had me skimming pages. It did have some twists which I thought added a lot to the story. I personally just didn't feel the connection that I wanted and it felt like the main character never got real answers or closure just excuses.
The writing was beautiful and the plot was well thought out just maybe not my cup of tea.

** I received this book as a review copy and in return gave my honest review**

I absolutely loved this book.

Samuel is a man with a terrible upbringing, his mother
was abusive. He get put into his aunts care at the age of 7 and
life gets better for him. He is loved there.
He moved to England to forget his past but has to return Ireland
when he gets a letter from his aunt and that when all his secrets have
to come out to his long term girlfriend Faye.

Will Faye stay with him?

I can't wait for the second book.
This is the first book I have read from
Amelia and I am definitely going to read more.

I have and will be telling people about this book.

Thanks for the free book Amelia.

This is the first book if Amelia J Hunters books I have read. All I can say is "where have I been hiding all this time?"

Wow, any words that I have in my head to say about this book do not do it justice.

The book is raw and brutal.

Samuel was born in Ireland and at the age of 7 was put into the care of his aunt and uncle. That is the same day his mum died, or so he hoped.
When he was old enough he left Ireland and moved across the water to the UK. There he met Faye, his best friend and later his lover.

One day he receives a letter that changes his life. Are secrets better left that way? Going back to Ireland, to the place he grew up brings the secrets to the surface. Will his life ever be the same again and will his and Faye's love be unbreakable?

Very interesting, dark tale of hidden secrets that come to light at the worst moments. But that's the way of dark secrets. More of a literary fiction than romance novel, so I'd recommend this to those who like only a bit of romance with their story.

We're first introduced to Samuel through his child's POV. We are given a brief glimpse into his tough upbringing. The author perfectly captures the mindset, feelings, emotions of a seven year old child going through such a traumatic experience.
We then meet Samuel as an adult who is trying to put closure to that without really dealing with it. A letter from Ireland and his past leads him to where it started. The letter takes him back home to Ireland. The writer beautifully describes the landscapes of Ireland, the small towns and it's traditions. I read it with such a clear picture in my mind.
As the story moves along we learn more and more about Samuel's family and background. The story kept me guessing and thinking with its twists and turns and revelations along the way. I wanted to give Samuel a good talking to as I read But that just means I felt invested in his story and care about him.
One thing I have to say is that the story ends abruptly in a way that leaves me wanting so much more. The positive is that I don't want Samuel's story to end and I'm glad that despite the wait for the next book there will be more to Samuel's story and as a reader we will go in that journey with him.
As a side note, if you are reading this and have read Hidden or just deciding to take a chance on this author, then I'd highly recommend all her other books. She always captures real universal emotions and at the same time what makes us individuals.
