A Dragon Born Trilogy (Includes: Magic Eclipse, Midnight Magic, Magic Storm)
He is the supernatural world’s hand of justice. She is the abomination he’s sworn to kill. Their love conquered all.
Until now.
When a dark spell hits San Francisco, former mercenary mage Sera Dering and dragon shifter Kai Drachenburg find themselves on opposite sides of a supernatural war that has been raging for centuries—with no memory of their love or the world that was. They have every reason to hate each other, but if they want to survive this Shadow World, they’ll have to put their differences behind them and find the person who cast the spell before this hellish reality becomes permanent.
Shadow World is a new complete trilogy set in the bestselling Dragon Born world. It includes the three books: Magic Eclipse, Midnight Magic, and Magic Storm.
Ella Summers has been writing stories for as long as she could read; she's been coming up with tall tales even longer than that. One of her early year masterpieces was a story about a pigtailed princess and her dragon sidekick. Nowadays, she still writes fantasy. She likes books with layered plots, lots of action and adventure, and a touch of romance. When she is not busy writing or spending time with her two young children, she makes the world safe by fighting robots.
Originally from the U.S., Ella currently resides in Switzerland. She is the author of Sorcery and Science, a fantasy adventure series set in a world splintered by magic and technology.
I really enjoyed the story and the characters. There is a great mix of action and romance and a lot of humor as well. You have a lot going on as the characters slowly begin to realize that their reality has been changed by magic.
I really like strong female characters and you get twin sisters that are really tough and don't back down from a fight. They are lucky enough to find two men that are just as strong and smart enough to not try to change the women they love.
It is a well written story that definitely keeps your interest. I would love to spend more time with the characters. There are many other supporting characters in the story too that really hold your interest. There is a lot left to explore.
I got this book on special occasion from Amazon for 99 Cent. Since I didn't know the author, I bought it as a tryout.
Though this trilogy is standalone, this series is actually a sequel to 2 prior series that apparently ran parallel to each other. I read a description on Amazon that shows you the reading order, which isn't exactly straightforward.
The author gives enough background to understand the story nonetheless. When events of the prior novels are mentioned, these are not relevant to the story, I think their purpose is more to reminisce. As such the books are probably even more enjoyable, when you get all these references.
Despite this I enjoyed the book very much. There is a lot of camaraderie between the main characters, resulting in a lot of back and forth banter, which is one of my favorite elements in a book.
The relationship between the main characters of the prior series are already established. After a powerful mage creates an alternate reality some of these relationships are reset (mainly the one between Sera and Kai as well as with the commandos). But that only lasts until the end of the first book. In TV series I often find it annoying if they introduce a concept like these because they think that this will elevate the chemistry between the main characters, but here I didn't mind.
A last word concerning the villain, whose identity is revealed at the end of the first book I think, but isn't shown until the third. With villains the motivation is a very important factor. If the motivation is subpar then so is the villain. Think of Sauron in Lord of the Rings. He is basically a burning eye on the horizon that wants world domination. Not exactly fascinating. In the second book they explained not why he started creating alternate realities, but why he kept going. And these motivations fall under the header, his heart was in the right place, even if his methods weren't. Basically he wanted to correct a mistake.
But the reason he started is once again connected to the Dragonborn. Not even the general hatred because of the prank they played a few centuries ago, but on a more personal level. His reasoning without a doubt made him the king of the douches, also because in the end I think there were some holes in the logic and that is why I enjoyed the third book a little less than the others.

Such a cruel fate!!! I feel for Sera and Kai! Oh my heart. The first few chapters were so hooking and interesting. Enemies... fighting on the wrong side of the war... Once lovers... Now, sworn enemies... No memory of their life before...
So damn intoxicating!! Whoa, what a fantastic and addictive read! Cliffhanger ending but you don't have to wait since this includes all three books! That's a deal!

A Dragon Born Trilogy (Magic Eclipse, Midnight Magic and Magic Storm) about Sera and Kai and the others right after she defeats the Grim Reaper. Even though she’s still in danger as a Dragon Born, Sera and Kai start planning their wedding.
Then a mysterious magical blast wave surges across San Francisco and it’s plunged into a different reality where Sera and Kai are enemies, humans are almost extinct and monsters roam the world. They end up having to work together to discover the source of the strange fog and change reality back before it disappears.
Though it takes some reader’s adjustment, it’s an interesting way to get an alternate possible storyline going. The 1st and 3rd books are in Sera’s POV, the 2d is in Kai’s. This outcome was hinted at by Alden several times, but the different reality changes get very confusing.
I like Naomi’s character in this version. She’s more confident. It’s also nice to see more of Riley and Lara.
Fave scenes: book 1) Naomi working with the spirit world tree and Sera coming in hot to Kai’s base. Book 2) Rane’s cat and the Fairy Queen ordering the new line of cocktails. Book 3) Arianna’s entrance into Merlin throne room and Riley fighting the wolves.
I didn't enjoy these books as much as I'd expected to. I found them a bit to repetitive & it also seemed like much of each book was just 'filler' rather than necessary to the story & it moving forward!! Having said all of that there were some good things obviously. We finally, after 11 books I think, find out why the Dragon Born are really hated. It was a fab twist, well done Ella!! The new character, Rane, was a really good addition to the group I thought & it was also lovely to get to know Lara a bit better!!
I'd still recommend reading these books as some really important things happen to the story arc & certain characters are changed for ever because of what occurs ... I couldn't imagine not knowing exactly why!!!! Let's face it, we love the core group of characters in these books too, I would never skip books 😂
this trilogy varies between a 3.5-4 stars! I think the first book was an interesting take, but the more you read, it kind of seems like the plot just lags. There's this constant, they're together, then apart, then together, then separated pattern which gets a bit tiresome half way through the book. though these books weren't necessarily my favorite throughout the whole dragon born series, it was a nice read to catch up on some of my favorite characters and now i wonder if this series will continue or if it ended? each book was around 300 pgs, so it was a very quick read!
Shadow World, A Dragon Born Trilogy, is the epitome of Ella Summer's writing! These three books, seamlessly, take the whole crew on an adventure unlike any other. Ms. Summer's ability to create new, believable worlds is amazing! As with all of the previous Dragon Born books, the storyline remains fast-paced and unique, filled with magic and mayhem, twists and turns, danger, intrigue, demons and deception. The characters are well developed and endearing. I can't wait to see what the rest of the series brings!
You know I really like action, continuity, great characters. This series has that genus writing style with a cherry on top. Once again refusing to give away too much of the storyline. Two sisters born as one with Dragon souls, parents having spell cast to divide into 2 sisters with Dragon souls. Dragon Born are hated and feared by the Magic Council, they are forced to hide their inner dragons. You begin to get the picture.
Enjoyed all the characters, who were each developed to perfectly fit their characteristics. I enjoyed learning the more subtle traits as they interacted together. Loved the banter, as well as the determination that good will prevail, regardless of how difficult the task may be.I also enjoyed the value lessons and how tough those lessons can be. I had very warm, happy feelings when I finished reading it.
This book kept me hooked into the story. There was a lot happening that was serious, but the characters did a good job of not letting it get too dreary. I love the snark and interaction of the characters, and it was great how they interacted with each other. I will definitely be picking up more from this author.
My first thought after reading the prologue was "jesus, are we going to have the kai&sera love story again?" But then I started reading and reading ... and it was so freaking good. I loved this series and am looking forward to the last of Alex's books and Naomi ones. I love Ella Summers and her writing and I just can't get enough of it.
I have never read any of these books, but now I want them all. I didn't expect to be caught so deep, but this story has you wanting to see what's next. I couldn't put it down. Ty so much for such a great story, I can't want to read the next!
Loved the interaction with all the characters! Harass hero's AND heroines! Lots of action and lessons to be learned also. This trilogy has t all. I highly recommend this!!!
I just finished the Dragon Born books -- all of them. Whew. It was so nice to read books with so few grammatical errors. I used the recommended reading order which blended the stories very well. The changing realities was very disorienting. Lovely!
I can't say enough about how much I love this series!! So we'll written and it's refreshing to actually have strong female characters! The entire series is very well written and the characters are all well thought out! Great job
I Loved this trilogy and the crazy adventure they all had to go through to get back to there world, the concept was a new and brilliant one to add to the dragon born series.
This is a very good tale being told here. The stories combine a artful and magical tale of magic and love and hope. I enjoyed the books and suggest it be read.
The Dragon Born series is awesome! It is definitely in my Top 5 of Favorite Book Series of All Time. Thank you, Ella Summers, for that Wonderful mind of yours that thought up the Dragon Born world.
Shadow World is a three book set, so each story is rated individually and the trilogy averaged x stars. Book 1, Magic Eclipse (5-star): Very good story with a unique, fast-paced, layered plot-- I never saw the ending, so it was a great twist. Main plot thread will continue to a next book, but this ended on a cliffhanger, but it was a good place to split the story for the next book of the series. Book 2, Midnight Magic (4.5 star): A seamless continuation from the first book of the series, Midnight Magic was fast-paced and action-packed. It was nice to see the characters all working together for a desired goal-- the Commandos are great! And I especially enjoy the animosity and grudging respect between Kai and Logan. A fun series. Book 3, Magic Storm (4 star): By the time this one rolled around, I was getting tired of the whole reality reset theme-- thank goodness this was switched up before I stopped reading the final book, a novella really--much shorter than previous books of the set (I almost gave up when it looked like this book was going in that direction). Overall, the trilogy was a good read, each book seamlessly making a segue from one novel to the next. Loved the characters more with each book, and I'm glad the author made adjustments to the storyline each book to keep my interest.
I thoroughly enjoyed this series of books they are original and the characters are brilliant. I loved the playfulness of them all. I would recommend these books to everyone who enjoys a great story and wonderful people
