This can described using one word, boring.

If you read the first book, User name Evie, and like me thought it wasn't that bad, don't go the extra mile and read the completely unnecessary sequel.

The first book ended on an interesting, but satisfying note. It wasn't by any means a great book, but I decided to see what regenerated had to offer.

As I said above, boring and completely unnecessary. I think it's supposed to be a story about love and loss and finding family or something, but the story is extremely clunky and the continuity/rules set down are broken in ways that don't make sense.

I literally felt nothing while reading this. I didn't like it all, but I didn't hate it either. It felt like a boring dream.

I was kindly sent a copy of this book from Hachette Australia in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Joe takes us back into e.scape in this fantastic sequel, taking us deeper into the world and the lives of the characters.

All Evie can think about is the guy she left behind in e.scape. She doesn't know his name, only that he no longer exists due to her dad regenerating the world of e.scape. What's worse it that the gateway to e.scape is broken, so she can't even return to the world to see if he regenerated. Evie's cousin Mallory continually tells her to forget about the digital world and her digital guy - she's got a guy in reality who is besotted with her, Lionel. Taking advantage of Lionel's feelings for Evie, she asks him to try and fix e.scape, but Lionel soon finds out he's being used and so deletes all the gateway updates, which luckily does let Evie into e.scape. It feels like home, and Evie soon discovers more than she was hoping for. But in the midst of all this, digital character slip through the cracks and into the real world, threatening to start battles in both the virtual and real worlds.

When Joe revealed he was releasing a sequel, he mentioned that this book would be bigger and give you an insight into the characters backstories, which he was spot on about. In this instalment, we get to learn more about Evie and her parents, and the work her father put into creating e.scape. The story felt so much more fleshed out and developed compared to the first book, which is something I really enjoyed.

Once again, Armit Birdi has done a fantastic job with the artwork throughout the book. His art style suits the story perfectly, and he brings the characters to life so well. Another aspect I particularly enjoyed were the plot twists and revelations throughout the story. They were built-up, timed and revealed so well, and it's something I felt was done better in this second book. The climax and action in this book also felt more drawn out and satisfying than in the first.

In other words, this book definitely does not suffer from 'Second Book Syndrome'. It just reads and feels so much better than the first, and I think Joe has added a lot of depth to the story and characters. I'm also hoping that, after the ending we are left with, that we could possibly get a third book. Although, the story does wrap up really well, so the series doesn't necessarily need another book.

Overall, I really enjoyed this second book in the Username series. If you enjoyed the first book, then you are probably going to love this one. If you were a bit on the fence about Username: Evie, I definitely suggest giving this book a go. Whether you are a fan of Joe, or have never heard of him in your life, this book is perfect for anyone who loves graphic novels, or is wanting to get into the genre.

Username: Regenerated was a good continuation of the Username story, however I only just found it to be okay.

PROs:
- I like the art style
- I like that Mallory is not annoying as frick anymore

CONs:
- I wanted more of the hooded guy cause I ship him with Evie
- I'm starting to find Lionel annoying as frick, and I shouldn't, but I do.
- I found the story to be somewhat predictable at times.

Yeah, this is the most basic review ever. If I think of more things, I will add to this review - but for now I'll leave it at this :)

When he announced he was releasing another book, I literally jumped up and down. I'm not one to read graphic novels but honestly, I really want to start reading them. Can't wait to get my hands on this!

Great example on how author media popularity can persuade an editor to publish mediocre work and be financially worth it. Just feels like i got scammed into buying this by hordes of youtuber fans pushing the rating up. I was even foolish enough to buy both volumes straight away. Never again.

It was an interesting turn of events. I liked the plot, didn’t care for the characters this time around, and I was quite angry with one of the characters throughout the entire book. The dialogue bothered me, not sure why. I enjoyed the story and the graphics were great. A solid read.

This books begins completely different to how the first one ended with absolutely no explanation as to why.

At least the story line made more sense.

I like how coy Joe Sugg was being about this series. In the introduction to this he said how he'd always wanted this world to have more than one book. He didn't mention how long a series it would be, which was smart so if future works fall through, he'd get away with just the two and wouldn't have shot himself in the foot.
I think this series is just gonna be so so for me.
I liked the storyline of this but the execution still felt poor to me and I was annoyed by a lot of characters.
It really frustrated me that after all Evie went through and lost in the first book, the thing she was most distraught about was a boy she barely knew!
The ending has powerful words but I really don't see the relation with character growth and bonds. They just didn't seem as strong as the words used to describe that.
I did like the art more in this. I still think the characters look weird but I can't get over how stunning the backgrounds are, especially the double spreads of scenery showing the tree next to the laptop. The different hues blend so beautifully and makes such an awesome effect on the page.
I liked all the cameos of Joe within this. They were subtle but when I picked them up it made me chuckle. For example, there was a poster for Joe and Casper's show and a folder that said "J5UGG".

Someone may enjoy this more than me so do give it a go because it may be a good read for you.

Pick it up, give it a go and enjoy! ^^

I love this graphic novel set. The world building is so great. I don't want to give to much information as this is the second book in the series.

Evie returned home in book one but she is at it again. She has been missing e.scap and she will stop at nothing to get herself back there. Only this time she is searching for someone.

In the process of getting to e.scape the app version she needed to get back on her computer was corrupted so when she had a friend to work on it, he mistakenly added the original app version of the world but he wasn't aware the danger that version could cause.

When Evie enters into the app, she wasn't aware the app was the older version and soon chaos begins to break because danger from the other side invaded her world. With help from the other side war begins to rage.

Love this book!

«so far so good!! I am not used to graphic novels but the drawing and the plot are so well built. I loved it, can't wait for the third one!»

three out of five stars
let me explain why I changed my rating for this graphic novel: Lionel boooooooored me so much, he is so annoying, he does not help the story to go forward (except when he managed to get e.scape to work again) and it seems that the story is going round and round, it is always about someone going to the virtual world and then coming back to reality or vice versa. also i wanted to see the hooded guy with Evie but they barely exchanged words in the end.

however i liked the fact that we get to know more about Evie and her family's story, cannot wait to see what the third one has to offer...

The sequel to "Username: Evie" held more tension and conflict than the first book, but a lot of what I struggled with remained the same. The dialogue was very simple and corny, the text boxes throughout literally explained what was going on or the lesson you were supposed to learn, and the characters were very one dimensional. I liked that Mallory decided to drastically change herself to be kinder, however, she stays with her uncaring, narcissistic boyfriend and the new kindness involves calling Evie's friends 'losers.' The plot was predictable and I knew what was going to happen before I was even halfway into the book, and many of the conflicts occurred out of really silly mistakes or pettiness. A good note, the art is well done and the characters look good.

This book is amazing, i read it in one sitting, couldn't put it down. The book follows from username: Evie, this is the second book in the series and probably the last, sadly. It's a fantastic graphic novel and one of my favorite of all time, i'll continue to reread this for years to come.
i suggest everyone go a pick these two books up if you haven't already,

Genuinely like this book. It was a great sequel, though the ending a bit rushed and awkward. Not that much character development (unfortunately) but the amazing format really makes the story come to life in a torally different and interesting way from normal books. Looking forward to the next one!

This book was somewhat of a surprise as I bought it without realizing it was a graphic novel - I thought it'd be just a printed book. My only other experiences in the graphic novel genre are with the first Alex Rider adventure (Stormbreaker?) and a very weird one called "Bone."
The illustrations were somewhat like Bone, not exactly very professional but still quite suited to the story. Apparently, there are three books in this series but I had not known this prior to purchase as I bought it from QBD at a very cheap price. If the other two books were priced the same I might be tempted to buy them but after reading the book and reviews on this site, I'm somewhat inclined not to bother.
There's plenty of emotional content and action but the characters made me feel a little off key.
Evie: An orphaned teenage girl who has a crush on a strange digital hooded boyfriend (who ends up with the name of River) whom she prefers to a real live one.
Mallory: A real tart who has a great opinion of herself but is quite awful and arrogant.
Jaspar: A vain, showy and arrogant twerp.
Lionel: Computer geek who is used by Evie to gain access to the virtual world her father created for her. Easily offended but not a bad sort.
River: Digital boyfriend. Actually, there's very little dialogue between him and Evie.
Oaky: A huge hulk like figure who they call an Avatar.
Unity: A digital counsellor.
Evie's father: Brave computer geek who is now dead.
Evie's mother: Strong with a bit of an overbearing personality.
Wild boys: Led by Knox who turns out to be a nasty piece of work.
Rather an emotional (sad) ending but without much of a moral to the story.
I have mixed feelings about this book - it's neither really good nor really bad and it's not the sort you'd want to reread all the time. However, I've given it a favourable rating based on the adventurous side of the storyline.

I wanted to read this book because I have followed Joe Sugg since the earlier days of YouTube. I read his first book back in 2017 and again this year. So I decided it was time to carry on with the series.

The main character is a young girl in high school called Evie. She is a bit of an outcast at school, and she is feeling very lonely. Her cousin, Mallory is the Queen Bee at the school. Evie dreams of a place of safety. All she wants to do is escape from reality. Evie’s father has died and created a world for her. Mallory got into this world and tried to destroy it so it had to be restarted. Evie is missing this world and still feels alone. She wants to go back and learn more about the stranger that sacrifice themselves for her. Will she be able to get back? Will the world be able to run again? This is a young adult science fiction graphic novel.

I really enjoyed this graphic novel. This was the first series I read and it was a quick read but I really enjoyed the storyline. I love that Joe managed to go back and answer some of the questions that the fans had about this book and that Evie and Mallory both have a character development arc. I liked that they added some romance for Evie. I gave it 4 stars because it was an easy read and I cannot wait for the next book in his series.

When I read USERNAME: EVIE I was amazed by the storyline and eagerly wanted to pick up book two and see if I would love it just as much as I did its predecessor. It was a good read, but it did not live up to the first books great review in my opinion. I loved USERNAME: EVIE so much that I didn’t have that many bad comments to say in my review. In USERNAME: REGENERATED I unfortunately do.

First of all, I thought USERNAME: EVIE finished on a good note. I thought it ended well and I was nonchalant about picking up the second book due to the belief that it might be an unnecessary sequel that really didn’t need to be made. Unfortunately, that was the case in USERNAME: REGENERATED. It didn’t really have a plotline and it didn’t grab me as much as USERNAME: EVIE did. I of course was a little disappointed and upset but I was glad to see my old favourite characters again.

I am eager to read book three: USERNAME: UPRISING regardless of what I say in this review. I still think that this book series is one to look out for in the comic book world but I would not shove the sequel into someone’s face nor greatly recommend it.

Sadly not an improvement on the first book. It has all the same issues. The pacing is breakneck, the characters are shallow though admittedly less than before. However the plot holes are so much worse. How do lines of code physically manifest in the real world? We're never told. Also they restore the original gateway but somehow Unity goes through with Evie??? This is something I noticed in the last book too, none of these characters look like teenagers. It's insane the plot is Evie's dad testing new technology on her mum and basically banishing her. Then she raises a bunch of murderous children. Also those kids tie Evie and Unity up and they escape then unescape immediately which says everything about the pacing. Also Oak?? U expect me to be sad????? About Oak dying??? I cannot be expected to connect to him in these circumstances. I'm mostly surprised they committed to killing him off. Also Evie's mum is savage child abandonment queen. ALSO what's up with Lionel turning into a pick up artist incel

I appreciated the fact that credit was given to everyone who worked on this book. Sure, Joe's name is one the front but inside they mention everyone who worked on the book which was nice. Not all youtubers do that.

It was a fun graphic novel to read and I enjoyed it just as much as the first one, maybe even a little more. I personally don't watch Joe on YouTube, so I felt like my reading experience was different from someone who does. I was able to detach the work from the creator and I treated it just like any other graphic novel.

The only negative thing about this book was Evie's character. Her main defining feature was how lost she was, how far she'd slipped into the dark, and I got a bit fed up with that. Whenever she met someone you could be sure that a five minute conversation about how lost she was feeling was going to follow.

I can't wait to find out what will happen in Username:Revisited as I have so many unanswered questions. September better come quick!

"It's all about making the effort, and creating a good time rather than thinking you're missing out on a better one."

I read the predecessor to this a few years back and quite enjoyed it, and stumbled upon this in the library and so I thought I would give it a shot. Sugg and the creative team behind this clearly know their market well and have developed a strong and enticing enough story line, backed with some punchy, vibrant colouring that will surely appeal to the many teenagers (and adults) who enjoyed the last book.

This is a story that goes close at times to almost being like an adolescent PG version of "Black Mirror". This was an enjoyable enough read, though I couldn't help feeling that there was maybe something missing and it certainly wasn't as enjoyable as the first instalment.

As everyone says it's better than the first one. Well that's pretty much all there is to say. The story is a lot stronger than the first book but it's still let down by the artwork and the way the characters talk.
The story begins with what happened to Evie's Mother which is a pretty decent start sadly it becomes very cliched very quickly. Once we are in the present we find Evie trying ti get back into e.scape but the Gateway has been corrupted after the reset in the first book. Situations that you can probably guess take place leading to the Gateway being reactivated as a two way portal... but only for the digital characters. Soon we have a life and death hunt across the real world.
As with the first book things are tied up very quickly in the end. We get a little hint at the next book. Hopefully the improvements will continue.

Book three of BTAT read!!
I read this in one sitting, I think about a couple hours.
It was nice to read, but I couldn't say I loved it. Just a nice easy read.
It was interesting knowing the mother and what happened to her, River's carachter is particularly interesting to me, I don't know why.
I'll probably read the next book(I think there is going to be a third) sometime but it's not a series I'm super hyped about.
What I'm trying to say is that I like it, but not sooo much. I hope you guys get it 🙃

Overall, I probably enjoyed this book slightly more than the first in the series. However, much like the first one, I felt the ending in particular was very confusing and I wasn’t a fan of the art style. Also, there were various parts of the story that didn’t seem to make sense, even with my limited understanding of computers. I felt that the characters and their relationships could have been further developed, they seemed rather flat with little life to them. But despite this, I still enjoyed my time reading and would recommend it to fans of action packed books.
