The fourth book in the hilarious series from Roald Dahl Funny Prize winning author Philip Ardagh and illustrator of The Gruffalo , Axel Scheffler.Over the years, the Grunts have made more than a few enemies. But fortunately they're all safely behind bars. Or are they? There's been a prison break-out, and three of them are after REVENGE. It's time for the Grunts to go On the Run...This last book brings back some familiar faces from the series and solves a couple of mysteries too...
Axel was born in Hamburg, Germany. At school he was good at art, but didn’t think of a career in illustration until he won a cuddly purple cow in a drawing competition.
He moved to England in 1982 to learn English and study illustration at the Bath Academy of Art and then set up home in London. Axel illustrated a number of books for various publishers, and in 1993 Kate suggested him as the illustrator for Julia Donaldson’s first picture book text, A Squash and a Squeeze. This was the start of a hugely successful partnership: their bestselling modern classic, The Gruffalo, has sold over three-and-a-half million copies worldwide, and the TV animation was broadcast on Christmas day 2009.
Axel has illustrated a number of other highly successful books, including Muddle Farm, and his books have been translated into 42 languages.
Axel lives in London with his partner and young daughter.
This book was really funny. Out of all the books at school in our bus this is the best one. I gave it a 5 star. I would definitely recommend it to everyone I know or who talks about some books. U should read the book 100%!!!!
While The Grunts on the Run is on many occassions quite funny, quirky and strange, it also equally baffling and at times quite difficult to follow, especially as a bedtime story. The narration may shift in the middle of a paragraph in such a strange way that I had to read the same part multiple times to realize what was going on. And that's the thing, I think, it's not high literature but simply unrefined and, to be frank, quite poorly realized at times. While I adore the weird bad guys we are following, one of who is in a bird costume and one who loves fake moustaches, I still could not tell you which of their names are or who is who. One the characters carries Chocolate Biscuit with them, which, I believe, is a... doorstopper?
On paper, all of these things are funny, don't get me wrong, but written as they are, they elicit no reaction after a point. Things just happen and you try to follow and nod along.
It's a shame then because there are laugh out loud moments in it and even heartfelt sentiments, especially how Mr and Mrs Grunts really love each other, despite their comments to each other. I just had hoped that the novel would've been written better to really utilize all the great things in it.
