Janet is a repentant education inspector who grew up in the North East of England, gained her political education in Scotland and now lives in London. She is part of a bi-racial family that has its roots in India as well as the UK. Her experience of life in India has had a strong influence on her work.
Her stories have appeared in print anthologies in the UK and the USA. 'The Map of Bihar' was included in 'Best New Writing 2013' (USA) and was nominated for the Eric Hoffer prize for prose. 'The Work of Lesser-Known Artists' was a runner-up in the London Short Story Competition 2014, and appeared in 'Flamingo Land' (Flight Press, 2015).
Other stories have been published by online literary journals in Canada and India, including the Bombay Literary Magazine, Out of Print, Joao Roque, Kaani and the Indian Review.
Janet has had work shortlisted or mentioned in many competitions ranging from Fish to Fabula, via the Ilkley Literature Festival (2017 and 2018). She has twice had stories longlisted in the Commonwealth Writers competition. She was a semi-finalist in the Screencraft Cinematic Short Story Competition in 2018, and a finalsit in 2021.
Her second collection of short fiction, 'The House with Two Letter-Boxes', was published by Fly on the Wall Press in December 2021, and is available directly from the publisher and from Amazon.
Her first collection, 'The Map of Bihar and other stories', was published in June 2019 by Circaidy Gregory Press and, again, is available both from the publisher and from Amazon.
Janet is actively seeking an agent and a publisher for her third book.
