A selection of ten entertaining, lighthearted poems about different animals includes such favorites as Lear's "Owl and the Pussycat," Betjeman's "Diary of a Churchmouse," and eight others, all accompanied by distinctive full-color artwork.
Huh. The jacket copy calls this a 'gift book' and yes, it's certainly not more than that. The pictures are gorgeous enough to qualify, indeed. The poems are very light, and so the text and art don't complement each other well imo. Also, the paper jacket covers a plain cloth book... so it won't retain its appeal long unless treated like a treasure (and I'm a firm believer that children need to wash their hands and then read & love their books; not treat them like sacred relics) so I wouldn't gift this myself.
Otoh, anything that gets ppl to read poetry, even just a few pieces of light verse from the public domain, is a Good Thing.
