If you have ever considered joining any network marketing venture, this is a good read to disillusion you. A large portion of the book is spent explaining how you can exploit every relationship in your life and manipulate others for your own financial gain. The author is involved with the company Rodan & Fields but more or less she explains how it essentially does not matter what product is being sold in network marketing schemes, just that you play the game of trying to get every person you have ever met to take part in a great “business opportunity”. Informative, but not inspirational; however, I understand it is a realistic (albeit depressing) look into network marketing and a lot of good information if you have what it takes to be really successful in that kind of venture.

One of the things I am “supposed” to do for my business is consistently read professional development books. I kinda hate them. But this book? I will never get rid of it and I will buy it for everyone who joins my business. Romi gets it right, her advice is so good and it is not sugar coated. I love her attitude and I love how she is simply not afraid to say the hard things about what many in my field are doing that cheapens our brand and our opportunity. I know that what others think of us is not important, but to have the validation of a rock star like Romi echoing what I think and feel is powerful for me.

Get out your highlighter! You're gonna need it. Love this book and all it has to offer for new as well as seasoned DS entrepreneurs. It's full of no BS advice, short, simple and easy to follow. It reads as if Romi is next to you, hanging out, chatting with her friends. Great asset to my growing business.

I feel like this is seriously the textbook for anyone working a home based business or network marketing to be (1) authentic (2) not sleazy and (3) helping others while helping yourself first. I’ve read it before and continually have solid takeaways and good lessons to make me better at my job. Definitely get it for your shelf and read often.

Hated it. Felt like an ad to be a part of an MLM (multi-level management) scheme. It is definitely directed at females, specifically ones that are married and/or have children. Sad to see this group targeted in a way that makes these women feel like real business owners. You are just a puppet in these schemes, it is not actually your business. Sorry, not sorry.

I’m giving this book 4 stars because I do think her advice is sound and full proof. I think if anyone takes this advice to heart and goes all in they will almost certainly find success.

However reading this book has made realize that network marketing isn’t my dream. I have zero desire to attack my direct sales business plan like she does. When I was reading a lot of her advice on what to do and what to say It made me feel slimy and spammy, it does not fit my personality, I would feel forced and fake speaking to people about my business like she suggests. Her advice made me realize I do direct sales for a completely different reason. I do it to have fun, with the money side of it and ranking up side of it my last priority. It made me realize I’m not into the politics of network marketing, I like people but not enough to talk to 5 different people every day. I love being at home and enjoying my own company so the last thing I want to do on the weekends is go out in public and meet strangers to tell them about my business.

However, if you do want to make 5-7 figures with network marketing then pick up this book pronto and take her advice because it’s good and it debunks all your bullshit excuses

Absolutely inspirational. I learned so much. I love her clear, concise, no-nonsense approach to business and to teaching us (women) how to run a successful business. Applying some of her techniques has already started improving aspects of my business. If you can get past the swear words, it is well worth the read! I will be reading again.

This book was also full of practical advice.  It was longer than Rock Your Network Marketing Business and had more stories.  It had a bit of language and bluntness, but also some humor.  It was helpful, even if not written in my favorite way.

It took me a LONG time to finish this book. There’s a lack of story throughout and it’s just very “tidbitty” so it’s easy to put down. That being said I’m glad I pushed through and finally put it on the shelf. She’s very empathetic about our fears when reaching out to others and building businesses online. The book is well put together for anyone in the MLM community 💕

It definitely gives one perspective on how to recruit, and qualify people for your Network Marketing business, it unfortunately also is exactly why people are turned off to an otherwise very attractive business model.

It does identify a few things well...
1. You will have to talk to a lot of people and grow your network to build a network marketing business. (I know this seems obvious but so many people get into a business thinking that they are going to grow a massive organization by staying within their friends and family)

2. You do need to identify prospects “why” - I think this came off as a bit manipulative in the book. But it is a very strong workflow for building a team of motivated people - it’s also important to note that it is a really good way to get to know people on your team in a deeper more meaningful way.

3. Phone calls... can we all do a collective ughhhhh? I think this is a great example of having to do things in business that aren’t your favorite. BUT I do believe, because of technology that this process can be done differently now. Although I’m pretty sure the author COMPLETELY disagrees with me lol (actually, she would probably tell me to get over my dang self, as the title illustrates)

Overall, I think if you approach this book with a mindset of “take the best and leave the rest” you can find some pretty good info to help build your network marketing business.

Big fat meh. Also, there was a review that mentioned that the profanity was too much and I thought, “Lighten up, sensitive reader.” But having listened to the whole audiobook, I actually found the amount of the f-bombs distracting and they begin to lose their emphasis two-thirds of the way through the book.

Up-front, no-nonsense advice from a woman who has been extremely successful in network marketing. I liked that I couldn't tell which company Neustadt worked for and had to look it up, so I didn't feel like she was selling me on her product, simply her techniques for success in her field (it's Rodan & Fields, by the way). I won't call it compelling reading: I picked it up early this year thinking it would be a quick read, and although it's not difficult, heavy, or poorly-written so as to be cumbersome, it wasn't edge-of-my-seat kind of stuff. Might be more compelling if you don't know some of these techniques or principles, but it was nevertheless well-organized and useful. I took notes, and found it applicable not only for network marketing but to the conduct of good business in general.

This actually did the opposite of what I was hoping...it makes me want to run far, far away from this type of work. Neustadt teaches ways to con someone into believing they need to work the business. If she can't quickly con, then she advocates using the individual as a resource for referrals. For me, my mind must not be there for working in MLM...or maybe it's just in Neustadt's way of teaching that I'm turned off. I don't mean disrespect...it's just so far out of my head to work that way and be happy.

2.5 stars. I work in network marketing, so I picked this up as a way to inspire personal growth. I didn’t love how much the book focused on growing your network to have a million people under you selling product (which means I will probably never become a millionaire doing this job). I like the fire she lit to keep me going, some new and inspiring ways to talk to people, but I still feel icky about MLM and selling “the opportunity”. It’s just not me/for me.

Great book...requires action!

I love the directness and realness of this book. Starting my 10th year in network marketing, I knew a lot of what was in this book (and some of which was written in our founders book 55 years ago) it's good to get a different perspective. Now it's time to go back and implement step by step what she talked about.

I was looking forward to reading this book, but after the intro it seems she was trying to sell me something. I did not find what I was looking for in it so I skipped around to try and find anything useful to no avail.

I JUST HAVE TO SAY
Better to take a marketing class

MY RATING ★★★☆☆

RATING EXPLAINED
3 - Good Book. Has all the right mechanics but it's just a little average. It's probably been done before or maybe it's not my cup of tea but I see the appeal and the potential. Many others may enjoy reading it but I wouldn't recommended this one too readily -especially if you're short on time.

REVIEW
If you aren't in direct sales marketing pyramid scheme (nicely known as Network Marketing) or actively building your own business then this book is a waste of your time.

If you are in direct sales. Statistically speaking you can do everything in this book and still not make 6 figures -nevertheless 7 in a year.

And frankly there wasn't a single thing in this book that wasn't basic marketing 101.

I'm super happy for Neustadt, for being a success story and sharing what she thinks will get everyone on her level but from my own experience. Her hype in this book just feels like years of experience learning to manipulate others to get the bottom tears of the pyramid that much farther beneath her... which in all fairness she does talk about at length.

Forgive me for the cynical skepticism; I just got that overwhelming fake vibe from the book because anyone with real world experience knows it's not just how hard you work and how many contacts your exploit it's also who you know and a lot of luck. You can bust your butt using all her advice trying to make it big in sales but odds are just as good that it will be a waste of time regardless.

The beginning of the book in particular felt like humble bragging and I guess if you're making as much as she does it doesn't matter. You just have to be likable enough to sell product and make your commission. right? I mean she got my money after all.

I gave 3 stars because it's overall a good read. She remained neutral and did not sell her products in her book opting to just selling her knowledge which I highly appreciated and she was very direct about who this job isn't for but I personally feel that if you're reading this to do better as a Network marketing job then it may be a good start but marketing classes would be worth the investment.

"Get Over Your Damn Self" delivers a no-nonsense blueprint for anyone looking to kickstart a life-changing business. As someone who's dabbled in the idea of entrepreneurship but often felt overwhelmed, this book was a breath of fresh air, providing a kick in the pants and a practical guide to get started.

The author's straightforward approach stood out from the get-go. She doesn't waste time with fluff but dives straight into the realities of building a business. I appreciated the honest insights into the author's own journey, showcasing both the highs and lows of entrepreneurship. It felt like getting advice from a savvy friend who's been there and done that.

One of the book's strengths is its focus on mindset. The author emphasizes the importance of getting over self-doubt and taking bold steps toward success. The no-BS attitude extends to breaking down mental barriers that might be holding aspiring entrepreneurs back. It's not just a business guide; it's a pep talk for the ambitious soul ready to make things happen.

The structure of the book is practical and actionable. The author lays out a blueprint that's easy to follow, complete with exercises and tangible steps to implement. The language used is clear and relatable, making business concepts understandable for those not familiar with the entrepreneurial world. The author manages to demystify the business-building process without dumbing it down.

The book also addresses the importance of authenticity in business. The author encourages readers to embrace their unique qualities and use them as strengths rather than trying to fit a conventional mold. This emphasis on individuality adds a personal touch to the book, making it stand out in the sea of business guides.

In conclusion, "Get Over Your Damn Self" is a must-read for aspiring entrepreneurs in need of a reality check and a practical roadmap. Whether you're just starting or feeling stuck in your business journey, this book offers a no-BS approach to building a life-changing venture. The author's candid advice, combined with a focus on mindset and authenticity, makes "Get Over Your Damn Self" a valuable companion for anyone ready to take charge of their entrepreneurial destiny.

I wish I could give this book zero stars. It was a blind buy off Amazon, as I was looking for business / self-help books for women in my demographic for audiobook narration practice. Even though it's geared towards MLMs / direct sales, I myself have a small business and thought this might offer some really good tips / tricks!

Alas, I was sorely mistaken. The tactics this woman tries to teach those getting into direct sales are predatory. Make a list of everyone you've ever come into contact with and reach out to them, even if you haven't talked to them in a decade. Bother that poor woman standing in front of you in a line somewhere. They don't want to join your team? That's fine! Just convince them to be a customer. Or have them think of people they don't want as friends anymore so you can harass them. All just to add to YOUR bottom line.

The constant "don't be a predatory slut" (bashing women) and other lines such as bashing a woman she knew who "had every plastic surgery and outpatient procedure known to man" (because she DARED to love her face as it was) just completely turned me off to this author.

And the book really needed another edit. Inconsistent hyphen usage. Missing words. Weird comma usage. The whole thing was such a turn-off I couldn't even finish it.

There are a few good take always from this book even if you’re not in a MLM; Take control of your day and learn to say no.

So I’ve said no to being successful in a company I’m involved in and actually do love. This book proved to me that I am not a good candidate for such a business even though I use the products of the company I am involved in every day. I wondered why I just wasn’t able to “grow” my business past the few customers that asked me about what I was doing and it’s because I feel manipulative and sneaky in the ways I’m told to get peoples attention. (My husband said I was being a show-off) I have a few customers that asked me about the products. They signed up because they wanted to- I directed them to the least expensive route and have let them know which products I think they could do without and when they are about to be charged again. I cannot stand the idea of making money off my friends. There are some great products stuck in MLMs and if that’s all you want from the company, this book prepares you for what’s coming your way if you sign up and in that way, this book is very helpful.

Good Read

This book really helps you realize what it takes to make a large income with MLM. However, I wish it weren't so focused on 6 and 7 figure incomes. Not everyone is striving for that. Also....the author doesn't mention the company she is with until the end of the book but with full name shout outs, anyone can Google that and see what MLM company these people are with. I feel that could cause issues for people trying to recruit for a different company since these people being discussed in the book all had success with 1 specific company. I also don't agree with sharing the opportunity before products. That really comes off as salesy. Unless a person reaches out to you with the business. No one likes a telemarketer. Otherwise a good read and not boring.

Rating this 4.5/5⭐️’s.
I absolutely loved this book! It feels like Romi is just chatting with you, telling you her tips, tricks and secrets. I definitely took away lots of valuable information that I can’t wait to start practicing!
I feel it’s important for me to note that this book is about marketing sales, I think Romi works with the skincare company Rodan + Fields. Now this isn’t in the area of the business I myself am building, however I still found the information in this book to be useful, even though it didn’t all apply to me. Romi gives helpful tips on speaking to people, and even gives examples on being professional when speaking. I really enjoy her no bullshit style of writing, she’s honest and to the point. No extra fluff, yet she’s still motivating in areas I felt I needed.

I listened to Get Over Your Damn Self on audiobook and loved it! I wish I had found it when I rejoined the direct sales industry last June! She makes it sound so easy to talk to people about joining you as business partners without sounding salesy or feeling like you’re being annoying. It really got my butt in gear and start reaching out to people again. It’s so easy to get caught up in everyday life and forget how much you enjoy talking to certain friends. This has helped me rekindle friendships that fell by the wayside years ago. Now I need to get the print version so I can go back through to make notes and remember the wording she uses when talking to people.

I couldn't even finish this book. I thought it was be your typical self-help book filled with inspiring stories and advice. However, I felt like this book just encouraged people to get into the MLM business for reasons x, y, & z. I didn't find it inspirational or helpful at all. I would rather hear from a small business owner and the path they took to find success. I want to hear about how someone starts a business from the ground up instead of someone who is encouraging people to do exactly what they did. This just wasn't the book for me.

This is an infomercial on building a network marketing business (also known as multi-level marketing or pyramid selling). If this is something you're considering or already doing, there are some good tips and scripts for getting people to join the business or buy the products. There are some cringy moments like tapping on everyone you know to participate in your business venture and how to advise people on using their credit cards to "invest" in starting their own business when they don't have savings.
