When James McElroy said those words, seventeen-year-old Olivia Banks believed him. And when she discovered she was pregnant with his child, she expected to marry the love of her life. Instead, the young couple was separated. Olivia thought she'd been abandoned and was forced to accept another man's offer to marry her and raise the boy as his own.
Now, decades later, the truth reunites James and Olivia. They are husband and wife at long last. As James lies ill in a hospital bed, Olivia recounts her life with—and without—him. Their story gives her faith that the heart of her heart will return to her again. Because her first love is her last love—her only love.
I fell in love with reading at a very early age, mostly because my mother was a school teacher and she insisted that my sisters and I be able to read really well. It wasn't until a career change that I was able to embrace my joy of writing. I'm happiest when I'm writing. I will always write. I can't help myself. Wow! Talk about love coming full circle. I loved the way this was told. We start in the present, then we are shown how the story gets to the present by what happened in the past and everything leading up to it. It's a very heartwarming tale of a great love.
I won a copy of this book from the author, I was not required to give a favorable review. This was a beautiful story of family, love and making choices that sometimes you don't like to make. This young couple fell in love in high school. She parents were hard workers and she had a chance to go to college on a full ride scholarship. His family ran the biggest company in the city and he was was planning to go to college also. But he parents didn't think she was good enough, and of course he didn't tell his parents he was dating her. And then he was sent to Ireland after graduation, and she ended up not going to school because she was pregnant. She had no way to tell him, and he was afraid to contact her because of the threats against her father's job. So she decides to keep the baby but leaves town, and ends up marrying a wonderful man who accepts her son and helps raise him. Years later they finally meet up and he finds out he has a son. Thing change after that.

Here we are treated to an emotional read that spans over 40 years. With the stories in this series spread over a long period of time, highlights that impacted the character’s lives were written about in greater detail.
