Kyle Fasano has it all: a loving wife, two children, and a house on the hill. Still, for one night it's not enough. Risking everything, he has a fling with a woman from the office. He knows better, but she offers a simple temptation.

Napoleon Villa has very little: no real family, no real home. A veteran detective for the LAPD, he is a gray wolf in an ever-darkening world. When the call comes in that a young woman has plummeted to her death at the Los Angeles Hilton, it seems like just another case.

Both men are running from something, and both are on a collision course. Fleeing his affair at the Hilton, Kyle runs into a stranger dressed in gray and possessed of heavenly powers. He tells Kyle something he never expected to hear: to save his soul, Kyle must prevent his first love - whom he hasn't seen in over 20 years - from making the same mistake he has. For Napoleon, it all comes down to a case long closed but forever open in his mind: that of a child murderer he failed to stop in time.

Now, pursued by a detective with nothing to lose, Kyle Fasano, with everything to lose, is about to learn that with every choice there are consequences. And sometimes there can be hell to pay - literally.

I was loving this story up until around 63% in and it turned into preachy bible versing. It would have been okay if it was being promoted as Christian Fiction because I wouldn't have started reading it in the first place. Not having the heavy religious content takeover until a good bit past the halfway point smacks of trickery. I wasn't going to rate it because the writing was wonderful and I didn't want to dissuade people who read Christian Fiction from reading it, but then the climax and conclusion were a hot cheesy, contrived mess no matter how you look at it, so I feel okay with giving it a low star rating. I think readers of Christian Fiction would also be disappointed in the overly simple sappy ending.

I know some readers are going to say, well... The Exorcist and Rosemary's Baby had religious elements and you loved those stories, and they would be right, but there was a finesse to the religious elements in those storylines that didn't make you feel like the author was trying to scare you into conversion. Ha ha.

I'd initially set this book aside because of the lame beginning. I'm really getting tired of books that depend on sex to move a story into salable territory. I read 3-4 books a week (lately, anyway) and usually just flip past that stuff. When it's in the beginning, that often means the book doesn't get read.

So this one sat unread in my Kindle for a while, until I'd run out of things to read. When that happens, and there's nothing promising at the library I go back to the Kindle and open one up at random.

I'm glad I did, because this is one of those books that keep you up late reading it, and wanting more! So I'm glad there are a couple more, and from what I hear, there are more on the way. I'll be reading them!

I have mixed feelings about this book and am not sure if I will continue the series. I can't decide if I like the author's writing style; the writing was "eh" for me yet I had difficulty putting it down. I can't pinpoint why it was just "okay" for me. It certainly isn't like other paranormal books that I have read and I wasn't expecting religion to be a major part of this story.

Cliffhanger Alert

I hate a cliffhanger. Not a bad effort overall, but it just leaves you hanging at the end. Not recommended unless you want the trilogy.

Quick, suspenseful read

I really enjoyed reading this book. It was fast paced and suspenseful until the very end. I really liked the way the main character was portrayed: flawed but trying to do the right thing.

Great Story, Great Writing!

This is a great story that piqued my curiosity right from the beginning. Kyle Fasano knew as soon as his lust abated, he just made a horrible mistake. His conscience was telling him that he would lose his family. How could he have done this and on his wife's birthday? He was going to grab his clothes and get out before she woke up. Then he heard the whispered chanting.
It didn't sound like the beautiful twenty three year old office girl he came in with. The voice was guttural and when she looked at him he saw solid black orbs where her eyes were suppose to be. Kyle was terrified by whatever the girl had become.
He knew if that thing caught him he would die. He grabbed the rest of his clothes and ran out of the room slamming the door behind him. He could hear it down the hallway screaming and pounding on the closed door. Why didn't she just open the door?

I liked everything about this book. The characters are well thought out. The theme is basically good vs evil played out in part by angles vs demons. Tony Faggioli is a good storyteller. It was easy to see the action and characters through his words. While reading book 1, I bought books 2 and 3. That is the best recommendation I can give an author and his books. I hope you'll give this author a try

Just plain weird

Can't say I hated this book, because I finished it in short order. I unfortunately did not read the reviews before hand. My bad! It really turned out to be a little too on the religious side for me and the ending was a non ending. That is always a disappointment.

This is quite an interesting book I liked the writing and I think it’s not a bad book at all it’s just not my kind of book. I don’t think it dragged in any way it was pretty fast read I was just puzzled at what was going on after reading a little more I understood. The ending also was not my favorite in all I just believe that this is not the kind of books I’m really into.

One in a million. ... certainly is

Kept pulling me in with each page—& yet, the final chapter was still a big surprise. Read it & see how surprised you’ll be.

This debut novel begins with a married man in a hotel room bathroom already regretting what he's just done with the young woman asleep on the other side of the door. Kyle Fasano's moral compass is grounded in both his religious views and his core ethics, even when he's violating them, but his premeditated act of adultery turns out to be an even bigger mistake than he can imagine. The girl ends up dead in a manner that stumps the police and the enigmatic Gray Man who shows up, claiming his arrival is in response to Kyle's plea to God, is more terrifying than comforting. The mission the Gray Man sends Kyle to accomplish, all while being hunted by a grizzled detective with demons of his own, is the driving force of this compelling novel. The characters leap off the page, the paranormal elements feel sickeningly real and the journey accelerates to a shocking climax.

Disclaimer - I am personally acquainted with this author, but purchased and read all three books in this trilogy.

Highly recommend.

I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review.
This was a great thriller. I was pulled in from the first chapter and was on the edge of my seat through the whole book. I couldn't stop turning the pages to see what happened next. I definitely recommend this to anyone who likes suspenseful thrillers.

I like supernatural thrillers. This is the first one I’ve read out of Christian genre. It was a good read, but being a Christian I was put off by the profanity. I had read a review that said if the reader was Christian this would have been great but it was “preachy”. I didn’t find anything Christian about it. I said that for people like me who like angel VS demon books and Jesus is in the book. This is a typical good vs evil book with Hell as a literal place, but no Jesus.
It was NOT labeled a Christian so the assumption that it was was based on my own mistake of the reviews.

With that said it was a good book. Twists and turns in every chapter kept me wanting to read more. The characters were very believable. The police detective hardened by years of work was my favorite character. Hurt and wounded by life but he had a soft heart that was hidden beneath the tough exterior.

Tamara was, in my opinion, a little too forgiving. Maybe it was because her husband was in trouble with the law and she wanted to help. I’m not sure. But I have never met anyone who was cheated on and instantly was forgiven by the spouse; Christian or not.

The end of the book is a cliff hanger. I just finished a series book. It was 5 books in length, so far. I did not expect it to be another “to be continued” and I was disappointed. I had a difficult time starting a new book because I wanted to read the next book in the series and it’s not written yet. So it was with this book. If you want to know what happened to Kyle and Victoria you HAVE to read book two. I understand it is a way to sell books, however I prefer a stand alone book that can be read w/o the previous book and not feel like something is missing. In this book you must read book 2 in order to get more of the story.

I have started book 2. I feel that without reading book one, you’d feel very lost, like you’re picking up in the middle of the book.

I gave it three stars for a few reasons. One was because I don’t like books that have a “to be continued”. I prefer a stand a stand alone book but it can be in a series. Also for the unbelievable character of Tamera.

Other wise, it’s a great good vs evil book.

**i read the book through Kindle Unlimited. I did not purchase the book.

I picked this audiobook without knowing anything about the story, but after reading the synopsis just now, o realize there is no way I would have known this book has such a strong (Christian) religious tilt. I’m not really one for books with strong religious themes. I don’t really have much faith to speak of and I struggle to connect with/or find interest in conversations about Christianity. It’s not surprising religion came up in a book about angels and demons, but I found there was increasingly more divergent mental musings about the connections the MCs had with their faith as the book went on (only the faith of the husband and wife and jaded detective were addressed and all three had some level of belief, so it wasn’t like there was a diverse or particularly expansive discussion on the subject).

I also don’t like that this story was split into a series when it really didn’t need to be. If there was less discussion of Christianity and random jumps into past memories that had little-to-nothing to do with the story in the present, the plot could have played out and finished up nicely within one book. Instead, the only major things that happen in this book are the affair, the death of the “other woman”, the kick off of the investigation, investigation shenanigans (where a single average Joe who never admitted to watching true crime shows successfully baffles the entire detective unit for most of the book by basically “winging it”), the male MC’s personal investigation coming to a head and the book’s end. Hardly worth nearly 11 hours of audiobook plus however long the next books in the series are.

Initially okay premise but turned out to be a book outside of my wheelhouse.

A bit of a mish-mash of genres, this book doesn't really work especially well as a thriller, a horror story, or a detective novel—although it has elements of all three. The main problem is that the characters are mostly flat—they're cardboard cutouts that do what they do not because they have believable motivations but because the plot needs them to.

For much of the story this results in the protagonist evading police who suspect him of murder, a plodding chase that is only sporadically made interesting by the appearance of demons who menace him. Unfortunately, whenever the demons appear, the protagonist suddenly develops magic demon-fighting powers that always grow in proportion to the menace he faces so that he can continue in his quest. (An angel also shows up occasionally to offer exposition or to tell him something else the plot needs him to do, which he then does.)

It bears noting that his quest, although framed as a proxy for a Good-against-Evil fight, is basically to track down an old ex-girlfriend from high school and stop her from having sex.

If he fails and she violates her wedding vow, she will embrace Evil and become a murderous demon. (That's what happens when *women* in the story have an affair; meanwhile, the male protagonist gets superpowers, a guardian angel, and a second chance to do good.)

The writing itself is serviceable, with environmental descriptions and action scenes being stronger than the dialogue. The tone throughout is similar to stories written by Stephen King (who the author name-checks at one point with a reference to "The Library Policeman"), which I liked, but in the end the story adds up to less than the sum of its parts.

4.5! One in a Million takes an interesting perspective on the good vs. evil theme, which I myself enjoyed. Tony Faggioli's writing style allowed an easy visual of the constant battle between angels and demons. The lead character Kyle Fasano starts off the book having made a poor decision, getting a hotel room with a much younger co-worker who is not his wife. This therefore leads to his first encounter with a demon (who has entered the body of a woman he is having the affair with). Out of fear he escapes from the demon, but encounters "the Gray Man" who also is not visible to everyone. The man explains to Kyle that he has been chosen to complete a task. Meanwhile the woman in the hotel falls to her death, with Kyle being the last person to be with her. Throughout the book Kyle attempts to complete his task while being pursued by the detective trying to solve the woman's murder. Faggioli leaves things unanswered at the end, but it IS the first book in a trilogy. I won this book through the Goodreads book giveaways. THANK YOU Tony for the opportunity to read your book. I'm looking forward to reading more.

I've never read a book like this

I have been sticking to strictly murder mystery with a little romance thrown into the story. "One in a Million" came up after searching: paranormal mystery. I'm glad I gave it a shot. This book was well written and took me on an adventure with good and evil that I've never been on. You start out hating the main character and then you're cheering for him. At first, I thought he was paranoid but - turns out he made some smart moves. The book paints a clearer picture of what I believe is essentially going on around us everyday. The unseen becomes seen, and it isn't pretty.
I'm anxious to find out what happens next so I'm downloading #2 right now.

A tale as old as human history set in modern times with some interesting twists.

Having read the book's description on Amazon I was intrigued, and after reading several of the Amazon reviews that contained warnings to various groups of readers I was curious.

I'm sure One in a Million could toy with some peoples belief systems, but if approached with an open mind this book is an action packed journey with more twists than an amusement park ride. I'm hooked, and will be reading the entire trilogy, I have to see where Mr. Faggioli takes me on this journey. Not to mention how he is going to challenge/reinforce several of my belief systems.

Not my thing

I don't like horror stories or books about religion and this was both. So for me to have finished reading it means it was well written. I didn't want to keep reading it but I was hooked enough on the plot that I wanted to see where it went. I liked the main characters. I thought some of it was ridiculous and an even more disgusting idea of religion than some of our crazy cults have. But if this kind of story appeals to you it's worth the read.

A fascinating premise. A sinner, nearly destroyed by his transgression, given a second(?) chance to be the one in a million.

I have to say this book grabbed me and would not let me go even after the last page. To the extent I binge read the whole series. It was awesome. A dark journey through a world that few can see and live to tell the tale. Eye opening in many ways.

I would recommend this book to all.

Wow!

I didn't realize when I ordered this book that it was a supernatural thriller. That genre usually isn't one I would normally read. I prefer realistic mysteries and thrillers.
But I was hooked before the end of the first chapter.
This series is about Good vs. Evil, our perception (if we Believe at all) of Heaven and Hell, angels and demons.
Very well-written, full of surprises, and a story that just could be real! Who knows??

So I gave this 3 stars but mostly because when I started reading I was not aware that this was the first of a trilogy. I do have to say that I did get wrapped up in the story and the writing is really good. The overall focus of the story did not speak to me, but I did get invested enough to keep reading, I think that speaks highly for the writing. It is billed as a supernatural but it did seem a little more christian that supernatural.

A True Fatal Attraction

A man's one night stand with the office hottie catapukts him into the cosmic struggle of good versus evil. Drawn into the mix are a jaded detective and his rookie oartner, the man's angry but loyal wife, his high school flsne and an anigmatic angel.

Fast paced this is a fun read it combines elements of suspense with horror. The theology may be a bit dhaly but overall a goid read. There is a cliff hanger ending that promises a sequel.

I suggest skipping the audiobook. I don’t think the narrator was right for the story.

This is a fast paced supernatural thriller. It is based on Christian beliefs, so if that offends you you’re probably not going to like it. The author plays it loose with what the Bible actually says about sin and redemption.

It is a pretty good story overall and defiantly worth a read. It is also the first in a series, so don’t expect a tidy ending.

One in a Million (The millionth Trilogy Book 1)

I loved it!! When it first started I wondered but when I couldn't stop reading I knew it was a book for me. I love Supernatural and to me I can compare some the good and evil. Being a Trilogy I'm going to have to get the other two books. Tony keep up the very good work I love it and I'm sure many many more do to.

I've got mixed feelings about this book. It's part Crime Fiction, part paranormal/angels & demons. The crime fiction plot and characters I liked a lot, the rest not as much. I'm not sure if it's some deep rooted fear of mine, or just that I didn't find it believeable. Lastly I didn't realize this was Book 1 of a trilogy, so the cliff-hanger ending caught me by surprise.

Good vs Evil

This was a fast paced read, a real page turner. It brings a whole new light to many things that go on in this world that might be considered accidental or coincidental. I would recommend this to anyone who likes a book that is different& not just the same old storyline.
