I grew up without a TV, let alone DVD’s, computer games etc that my kids spend so much time engrossed in, but I learned to read at an early age and from then on I was always entertained – so much so that my friends used to hide their books when I visited them because all I wanted to do was read!

When I was a teenager I discovered Mills & Boon romances in my local library, and so began a lifelong love affair. I still remember that feeling of anticipation when I settled down with a pile of books - all bearing the famous rose logo - knowing that I would be drawn into a world of love, passion and emotional intensity that I have never found in any other books. I enjoy reading a wide range of books, especially historical novels, and I am a big fan of Agatha Christie, mainly I think because her characters seem so real, but I love romances and unashamedly admit that I only want to read books with a guaranteed happy ending. Reading is my joy and pleasure and I don’t want to cry buckets at the end of a book or have my sleep disturbed by its gruesome content.

For me, the characters in Harlequin Mills & Boon romances are the key. I love reading and writing about strong, alpha heroes and feisty, independent heroines who find that they can’t fight the blazing attraction between them.

When I married my own tall, dark, but sadly not wealthy hero, we moved out of London to the Kent coast and started a family that grew and grew. I adore my six children, and when they were small I loved being a stay-at-home mum, but there can be days, as I’m sure many of you know, when you feel isolated and – dare I say it – bored of conversing with three-year-olds. Harlequin Mills & Boon romances were my life-line and my sanity and I read them whenever I had a spare five minutes (in the bath, pacing the floor at three am with colicky baby on one shoulder and a book in the other hand!)

My imagination soared and I decided to try and write a book myself. My first attempt was typed up on a manual type-writer with the full-stop key and the letter p missing. Luckily my hero and heroine were not called Paul and Poppy, but it still meant going over my manuscript with a pen to fill in the gaps!

That first book was duly rejected as were my next two. I suppose I was disheartened and by now I had four small children and very little spare time, so although I continued to read romances, I gave up writing. It wasn’t until my youngest son started school that I tried writing again. I was struggling to come to terms with the death of my darling mum Gabrielle and writing became my therapy. Mum had always nagged me to get on and write a book and had an unshakeable belief that I would one day be published – I’m so glad that she was proved right and my biggest regret is that she isn’t here to share my success with me.

I wrote two more books which were both rejected by HM&B, but I was given some advice on my writing from the editorial team that encouraged me to try again. Third time lucky certainly applied to me – the day I received ‘the call’ was exactly four years after Mum had died. It was one of the most exciting moments of my life - but instead of chatting to the editor about contracts I had to dash off and pick my sick daughter up from school. Reality is never far away in my house!

I have now had nine books published - At the Sheikh's Bidding was released in September 08. My next book, Argentinian Playboy, Unexpected Love-Child will be out in the UK in July 09, and The Greek Billionaire's Innocent Princess in the UK in August 09. I have just had my twelfth book accepted and am already busy on my thirteenth. Now that my children are growing up I am able to write every day between 9 am and 3 pm, but often I become so involved with my characters that I sneak off to write again in the evening!

I feel I must be one of the luckiest people in the world to be doing something that I love, but I work hard at my luck and I believe that w

Cute and low angst book with one of the best heroes in CS history.
She doesn't often have nice heroes, they are more or less cruel, selfish, womanizers and often they are not celibate too.
This one is very nice.
In the beginning he looks like the usual playboy tycoon who wants the heroine as his mistress.
The heroine is a model, but she's also a basket case and as the book goes by I pitied the hero who only wanted to have some fun with a beautiful woman.
The girl was abused and harassed by her stepfather, her true father remarried and didn't want to have anything to do with her so her opinion of men is the lowest of the low.
She's still a virgin and doesn't want to have sex with any men around, and she despises the hero who in her mind is just like her father, a stupid and shallow womanizer who only uses women for sex.
So, each time he tries to woo her, she freezes him out.
I was amazed how many rejections - and not all of them polite- the hero could take and still be willing to pursue that block of ice who is the heroine.
Of course he doesn't know she had trauma but still, aren't there any other willing women for him to pursue?
No, apparently there's only the heroine and that was quite weird because in the beginning he was only thinking about a brief sex affair with her, and why he was determined not to let her go when she was unpleasant and rude with him I never understood.
The man seems to be strangely attracted to that bizarre creature and wants to understand her better.
He's also determined to win her because he sensed that she had some kind of traumatic experience who prevented her from having sexual experiences.
He's kind and patient, he dates her and talks to her and never forces her responses.
They have some kind of heavy petting and actually the heroine begins to feel something more for the hero, some kind of trust and feeling.
But she's really too warped.
And I wish she had counseling because those kind of traumas are difficult to overcome even with therapy.
She hates men, she is afraid of sex, she doesn't want to have affairs and doesn't want to be involved with a man who has other children.
The poor hero is a widower and he has a daughter but he's also very secretive about it and he never involves his mistresses with his family.
He's getting serious with the heroine but he's unwilling to tell her about his daughter because she told him she would never have an affair with a man who has children. She doesn't want to be the reason why a father deserts his children, as it happened to her.
So he doesn't tell the heroine he has a daughter, and when the truth comes out of course the heroine is appalled and shocked.
She refuses to see him and goes on living like a ghost because she's already in love with him.
The hero doesn't give up and he tricks her to go to Greece for an assignment.
They spend the whole time together, with his lovely daughter and all is well- oh, still he doesn't ask her to have sex with him, that nice guy- so everything is fine but for another peeve.
The heroine is jealous of his dead wife.
A wife who died 8 years before.
Really?
Woman, you have a man who is the kindest and nicest man in all hp history, who cares for you, and not only for sex, (of course since you didn't give anything), and still it's not enough???
Because you are jealous of a dead woman???
I'm through.
So she leaves the hero again, without explaining why, so he thinks she's jealous of his daughter, and still, still the wonderful guy tells her he will always be waiting for her.
No, she doesn't deserve him!
So, after another month where she tries to forget him, eventually she goes back to him and so they can declare their love and live happy.
Of course he loved his wife but it was so many years ago, and now he loves the heroine, he's crazy about her and everyone understood it but the heroine, since he was only kind, caring, nice and loving, with a patience who was really really out of ordinary.
So everything is well in the end.
The heroine was not a bad person, only a very traumatized and scared one, who needed help, professional help, and the hero really showed a great amount of love and caring for her, he was never selfish, never cruel, he only tried to do what was best for her.
She had so many issues but still I cannot say he deserved more, since she was a nice person and a good and caring one, with all her problems.
She was deserted and abused by all her loved ones, the very people who should have cared after her, her father, her stepfather and also her mother who was unable to see the truth.

It was a very different romance and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Especially the emotional ups and downs. Damon and Anna were perfect for each other. I liked that hero relentlessly pursued heroine. Even after she rejected and later ran away from him. He was very understanding and patient with her. I liked the cool sophisticated supermodel Anneliese and soft vulnerable Anna.

I don’t like reading books where hero was married previously and loved his late wife so very much. Maybe that’s why I didn’t fully love their story.
Recommended.

Another one that needs a re-reading 😬
I couldn't post any review and spoilers, I don't remember specific details about the story. At that time (9 years ago), I didn't use Goodreads, when I read the word "virgin" in the cover, I was bought 🤣

There are times I love to take a break from novels and read a short, quick story that can be started and finished in a few hours. Harlequin provides this for me and I really enjoy Chantelle Shaw’s books.

Damon is one of those heroes that I love. Smart, hot, and strong. Anna, labeled the Ice Princess by her peers, is a beautiful successful model. Due to media coverage, everyone assumes her affairs are numerous and Damon’s exploits as a playboy are no secret.

There is hot chemistry between these two when they first meet, but no time to pursue a relationship. Now, Damon is in London ready to encourage Anna to move forward into an affair but is shocked by her rejection.

I couldn’t help but like Damon more as his tenderness and patience are revealed as he comes to understand more of Anna’s suffering from her tragic past. Unfortunately, I never liked Anna as I should. At times, I found myself more irritated with her and the book seemed to stall and not move forward. But, the ending was great and I liked their HEA.

Writing in a backstory of sexual assault from a parental figure for the female protagonist, only as a conduit to show that the uber-masculine, hairy and strong male protagonist is actually a really Good Guy is crazy work, especially for under 200 pages. Needless to say that the narrative there is underdeveloped, and why do these people fight all the time?? They're supposedly falling in love very quickly yet cannot stop storming out and miscommunication runs as rampant as a herd of bulls. Thank you to my wonderful girlfriend for gifting me this book - you really support my reading habit with only the greatest literature! <3

This was a re-read

I enjoyed Damon the (H), he put his cards on the table from the jump, and I know we were meant to feel bad for Anna the (h) but honestly I was more irritated than sympathetic, I liked that she had her own career and wasn't one of those not got her own women, but apart from that... I had no overwhelming feelings towards her, it wasn't that she wasn't likeable but honestly, something didn't click. I like the H more than the h, she seemed to iono, want sympathy, your daddy left your mummy boohoo, smh! Okay so yea I felt bad about her stepdad, but she left before it was a tragedy sooo again, I didn't feel great sympathy for her unlike the h in the The Greek Prince's Chosen Wife .... Her situation was similar but I hurt for her, maybe because that was more tragic! Hmm or maybe I felt this h was kinda superficial and self centered,or perhaps she was just flighty and irrational, she was just everywhere!

I enjoyed the previous book, although this could stand alone the (h) was mentioned briefly in The Greek Boss's Bride

I thought it would be fun to read some of the older HP’s because I love the crazy plots with princes and made-up countries and the cleaner catching the eye of the billionaire, etc.
But the world has changed so much in the past 15 years that sometimes throw-away lines and unquestioned attitudes really rise up with a slap, taking me out of the story. In this book, there’s a scene where the H has negotiated a dinner date with the h in exchange for supporting a charity. Then he turns it around by giving her the contribution without requiring the date first. Nice! But then, he turns it around again by having the dinner set up in his penthouse suite in his hotel, where he needs to take a quick shower before he joins her. Not cool! She protests, but then is made to feel guilty for having bad assumptions about the H and changes her mind while he showers. Bad message! Young women should not be taught to question their instincts about dangerous situations! This was their first date, for cryin’ out loud!
Having said that, I do see that they were both famous people often in the tabloids, so privacy was hard to come by. Still, this behavior would be considered insensitive today, I hope! (Or stupidly open to misinterpretation and lawsuit!!)
Also, read Raffaella’s three-star review from 2022. She goes farther into the book and says nicer things about the guy. I agree the h needs some trauma counseling!

This book was so so good and I wish it had a epilogue. This was the only thing missing! The chemistry was intense between Damon and Anna. There so much depth and angst was very well done. Keeper and one of my favs by Shaw!

It could just be me, but I don’t think sexual abuse belongs in escapist romance.

Did Not Finish
January 27, 2014
I actually couldn't finish this because it was completely ridiculous, and it didn't even know it. Virgin heroines and arrogant, alphole heroes do not appeal to me, which is probably why I don't read a lot of Harlequin Presents.
