Brewster returns; but, the book was sorely missing his comedic relief throughout the majority. Overall, it was a good story opposing factions, spies, betrayal, Apache battles, sorrow, and of course zombies. I think the new author picking up the series did a pretty good job of keeping all the characters the same, which is much appreciated; but, it still feels like theirs just a little something missing from the original Z.A. Recht books.

It was long overdue but this was an excellent continuation of a story that was not done being told yet. All of our beloved characters made appearances which I really liked and the familiar landscapes and world brought me right back into the storyline. This book made me remember all the nuances that I really really enjoyed about the series. I listen to the audiobook version of this and they even brought back the original narrator which was great. The tone and urgency along with all of his characters voices were unbelievably done. It is a great addition to the story and the story line. I did find the middle of the book lacking and I did lose interest at one part but it is not a dealbreaker. This is awesome character driven zombie fun.

The continuation of the story was entertaining. however the errors in location and terminology were (for me) very distracting.

There were many but I did not keep a list but here a few:
Omaha is in Nebraska not Kansas, Ft McCoy is not a USAF location (US Army), a Bradley fighting vehicle is not a Cheetah (MMPV). and the military pistols and rifles are loaded with a MAGAZINE not a CLIP, clips are used to load rounds into a magazine, and the terms are not interchangeable.

These might be niggly errors to some but are distracting to at least me. Please get better proofreaders.

I have had this book on my shelf and in my TBR pile for a long, long time. Longer than I care to admit. Why? Well, I have bittersweet notions concerning the Morningstar saga. IYKYK.

This was a good re-entry into the series, picking up some time after the last one left off, with a body count escalation I did not expect. Quite a bit of it was very enjoyable, and almost every scene with the Chairman had me thinking about our life out here right now, quite a bit. (I'm not saying this was deliberate on the part of the author.)

I'm looking forward to the next book.

Great addition to the originals

We will always miss the original authors style of writing but this was a very good book and the writer did a great job reviving a story that was not done being told I'm so glad the series has been brought back from the dead no pun intended to be finished I know there's still one more book left to read I was just thrilled that this great series has been carried on thank you to the writer

Decent but needs edited

Some things didn't fit well with the first 3 books, nothing major, but enough small things that I found it annoying. Also, so many typos and spelling errors, this really could have benefited from some beta readers or a good edit. All in all a decent storyline that could have benefited from a read thorough of the first 3 books, but was entertaining nonetheless. Some editing could bump it at least 1 more star, maybe 2.

Of all the books so far this one was my least favourite. I still enjoyed it but many characters I love were lost in the previous book and then more in this one. I struggled to feel connected to the characters in this book and I felt like Sherman, The Dr and Kruger had a different vibe compared to the other books. Hoping the next will tie everything back together.

Edit: I later discovered the original author passed away which makes sense why I felt the vibe of the characters had changed.

Quite entertaining. I believe this could have been fleshed out a bit more, but it ran similar to its predecessors in the series. A bit disappointed with some of the casualties, and how quickly they sometime occurred, but in a violent and savage world such as created by the Morningstar virus, I should expect such things. A nice continuation of the late Mr. Recht’s works. David

Disappointing compared to the first three books in the series. I did not realise it was a different author until coming on to write this review and it explains a lot. The plot was weak and had quite a few issues and the language and style really started to grate with me.

The saga of the Morningstar Strain continues. The battle against the shamblers and sprinters goes on as does the war between the remnants of the Federal Government and the RSA (Reunited States of America). The action is continuous and the tension builds as the tale moves on. How the survivors are going to reverse this plague is never certain. At the same time that the battle between the Feds and RSA continue during this chaos is insane. The conclusion to the Morningstar Strain is well written and delivered with passion.

strait up good stuff

Really solid series with a plausible approach, well developed characters and a good plot - what’s not to like? Can’t wait to read the rest…

A fitting cap stone to the house Zach Recht built. Mr. Munson, you have my utmost respect for stepping up, stepping in, and finishing the rebirth of a world that so many have loved and become a part of. I am a fan for life.

This is the fourth book in the Morningstar Strain series. In keeping with the theme of my other reviews in this series, the battle sequences are the best part of the book without a doubt. Not only are the survivors battling the infected, they are also locked into a full engagement with the RSA pseudo government forces.

I had thought that this was the final book in the series, however, I was pleased to learn that a fifth book is planned for July of this year.
