Golden Dawn by Cathy Marie Hake Golden Days by Mary Connealy Golden Twilight by Kathleen Y’Barbo
The historic Alaskan frontier makes a wonderful setting for romantic adventures. Trek into the wilds alongside three women who have strong faith, determination, and no need for a husband. Can they surrender their independent hearts when love comes to call in the form of a friendly neighbor, a grieving widower, and a secretive gold miner?
As a child, Cathy Marie Hake had an imaginary playmate. Now "grown up," she indulges in a host of imaginary friends as she writes. She teasingly says she decided if those voices in her head were talking, she might as well write down what they said and make a living by doing it. She met her sweetheart in the High School department at church and married him after finishing nursing school. They live in Southern California and have two children and two dogs (one of them even moos - one of the dogs that is, not the kids). Faith in God, a loving family, and a wacky sense of the ridiculous keep her going.
Known for surfing across the kitchen on a dropped dill pickle slice, waterskiing on sea anemone spit, and using Right Guard® as hair spray; she considers herself living proof that God does, indeed, possess a healthy sense of humor.
Cathy loves classical music, romantic getways with her husband, and Diet Pepsi Free®. "I need chocolate to survive, love my friends, and enjoy a deep personal relationship with the Lord. Although an extrovert, I'm very conservative on a personal level."
In her writing, Cathy attempts to capture a unique glimpse of life and how a man and woman can overcome obstacles when motivated by love. In her inspirational pieces she enjoys the freedom of showing how Christ can enrich a loving couple's relationship.
Well written and researched set in the early days of the gold rush in Alaska - interesting story of 3 couples, meeting, falling in love, over coming the hardships they faced with early Alaska & family issues -cozy, Christian story - held my interest to the end.
Alaska Brides contains three stories by three separate authors but following the same characters. The first story concerns Ian who comes to the Goose Creek area to find gold. He ends up working with Tucker and his twin Meredith. The second is about Amy who is being pursued by a murderer whose brother has taken over her father's claim. Braden, Ian's brother, has also come to Alaska to try his luck. The last story is about Fiona who is sent to Alaska to prevent her from going to medical school. Here she meets Tucker. All three stories are Christian romances. Fiona's story frustrated me the most because she seemed rather selfish, complaining and not noticing what she had right in front of her.
The first two stories were very good, but I didn't like the last story at all. The author not only ruined that storyline and romance, but moved all the characters into a city instead of the Alaska country, which was part of the charm of the book. It left a sour taste in my mouth. Read the first two, and skip the last one.
As one reviewer mentioned, the first two stories were great. I say partly the city life and for otber reasons the third story in the book was horrible! You read two great stories, and then bam... the third author was either lazy, stupid or both. I caught several parts where she did not follow the story line as told in the other two. And then the way the "hero" lost his girl and the ensuing years as narrated were a bit over the top and under written. It was like her writing deadline was coming up to and she had to quickly write the last few chapters. I would have given this more than one star, but this third sorry story was just to sloppily written to give the book more than that. The imaginations of the first two authors were great and those two stories are well worth reading.
Man did that final portion of the 3 part book just come as a surprise! The plot of the third mini-novel does not follow the sterotypical romantic novel plot! In a way this twist actually turned out to be refreshing because I felt so blindsided. Overall this 3 part novel was fun read. I loved all the character's personalities as each showed individuality and specific personal traits that set themselves apart from the rest. Great read.

This was the first book I read when I started reading again this summer. These were good stories. But one thing that struck me strange was there was so much dialogue and not a lot of descriptive writing. Kept my interest though and the characters were endearing.
As many people have said--the first two stories were charming, but the third was unbearable. I couldn't even finish it, and it kind of ruined the rest of the book for me.
