Too broad as to lack focus and too deep as to jump into technicality without proper introductions

My intentions were to know very basics of Ubuntu and some useful usage of command line codes but this book disappointed me. I wanted to know how can I develop tools using Python to solve some Bioinformatics problems but this book lacks very detailed information how can someone develop such tools.
