Everyone has had luminous moments in their lives. It's the "a-ha" moment when one experiences the beauty and grace of life, whether it be when looking into the eyes of a newborn child or watching the sun set over the ocean. But those moments are usually too brief. Too often, people walk around in a fog, feeling vaguely frustrated, resigned, and cynical and asking all the wrong questions about how to make life better. They miss the purpose for being alive: to wake up and become oneself, to allow others to contribute to them and to, in turn, contribute their gifts to the world. This book gives readers specific methods for allowing luminosity into their lives on a consistent basis, allowing them to view the world with much younger, more vibrant eyes.
I finally finished this one. I had it for several years, never read it, or would read the first chapter and then set it down, which happened several times. I've posted it for book trades twice and then cancelled the trade because i couldn't bring myself to give it away until i read it first. And I'm glad i did. It's not as new agey as it seems. It actually reads a little like a conversation at the kitchen table late at night, full of advice and conversation about life, and maybe the coffee you really shouldn't be drinking so late. She's pretty down to earth about following your dreams. And there's that question she keeps asking, 'Would it be okay if things got easier?' which always shocks you a little, and makes you wonder if you're trying too hard, perhaps. I suspect i'm keeping this one, i'm always a sucker for books with good questions.
it revises the older wisdom of getting into life's different encounters and their supposed meaning. what is really important, as the book illustrates clearly and wisely, is how one feels when dealing with different happenstance. what i like most about it is how clear-minded the author is when writing and as a reader I could easily relate my own life in his examples.
One of the most important teachers, and one of the most important books on my spiritual journey. Accessible. Profound. Solid in universal spiritual principle and transformative process.
Get past the title. It’s not a “new age” book. Really, it’s about connecting with yourself and to those around you in a more meaningful way. So glad a friend recommended this!
I wish i could give this book more stars! The author distills deep wisdom into clear, effective explanations and specific, practical exercises. I've been reading about and reflecting upon the kinds of questions resolved in this book for many years. Yet even in the closing pages of Mastering Life's Energies, i continued to find new, helpful insights. I highly recommend that everyone read this book and lead a luminous life.
I gobbled it up at the start. Made lots of underlines. Ive reapeated a line from the book to myself a few time "nevertheless, I am willing" so I must have gotten something from the book. But about half way to three quarters of the way I lost interest. After months of not reading it I tried to finish and trudged through one more chapter. It started to get a lot less engaging. In the end I'm going to DNF.
Much within this book was like a wake-up call to myself. While I am very creative and often have excellent ideas, I am also very flighty and I often have trouble taking the idea beyond the idea stage. This book has really helped me make numerous positive changes within in life and helped me feel nothing but gratitude for those luminous moments in my life that I take for granted. If you are looking to make changes in your life, I strongly suggest starting with the techniques and exercises given in this marvelous book.
If you love insights that change your life forever, read this book. I read the forwards of books for the authors context and this forward provided the definition, the dictionary definition, of a goal that completely changed my view on the subject. Yes you can accomplish anything you want. Read the book and you will agree.
one of the books I read quickly, in a weekend - easy to digest, inspiring. I thought it gave some practical exercises, but then I couldn't seem to incorporate them into my life or use them to help me!
