Way down deep inside, what is it that you most long for? What are the unmet needs of your life that drive you to find satisfaction in possessions or pleasure, achievements or addictions, in endlessly seeking something—anything—to fill that undefined void inside?
Are you trying to meet an inner need with something on the outside—with something material? Are you trying to meet a spiritual need with something physical?
We human beings are ever so needy. We come into this world a bundle of seemingly limitless and urgent needs. And as we grow and mature, we become aware of some of those needs. But not all. We so easily believe that just the right amount of money, just the right relationship, just the right kind of thrill or pleasure, will leave us satisfied.
In this brief but concentrated little book, Pastor Mark Finley of It Is Written Television points to the one and only way any of us can ever become truly satisfied.
For it’s those inner needs—for peace and love, faith and hope, assurance and self-worth—that cry out most urgently to be satisfied. And those needs won’t be met in a whole lifetime of frantically chasing after things and pleasure.
What is it then that can leave us totally and forever satisfied? These pages will show that this is the wrong question. For it’s not "What can satisfy?" It’s "Who can satisfy?" Come . . . and meet Him!
Mark A. Finley (1945, Norwich, Connecticut) is a Seventh-day Adventist pastor. From 1991 to 2004 he was the host and director of the ministry "It Is Written" (internationally broadcast Seventh-day Adventist Christian television program founded in 1956).
All throughout history individuals have tried to satisfy their deepest needs; these needs might be for more peace, love, and acceptance and so on. Most individuals will try to acquire more money, fame, material possessions and various other means; in order to satisfy their deepest needs. But Mark Finley’s book is somewhat different, his book clearly illustrates to the reader that building strong faith in God will ultimately increase levels of self - confidence and optimism; this belief is what forms the centre of his non – fiction book, Satisfied: How God can meet your deepest needs; this author takes an analytical approach to the subject matter of faith. Author Mark Finley often illustrates his viewpoints in his book, by using real life stories from other individual’s personal experiences. He clearly explained that by developing strong faith in the power of God, certain individuals were able to overcome difficult circumstances in their own life; such people had somehow learned how to use divine powers to improve their circumstances, based on the authors observations and research he was implying that the power of faith is able to overcome various obstacles in life. “When faith fades away, greed always rushes, in to fill the vacuum. Faith connects us to the God who’s always there, the God who takes care of our real needs. Without that vital connection, we feel empty. Something is lacking – there’s a hole we need to fill. So we try to get more things to fill that hole. We acquire more, accomplish more, and conquer more. We taste success, but the hole is still there”, a quote taken from author Mark Finley’s book. This author’s words were quite clear and his ideas are very refreshing and aim to add higher perspective and knowledge to the reader’s experience. The main themes in Mark Finley’s book were faith, motivation, self – empowerment and various inspirational stories; most of the personal stories in his book were quite touching. However, I’m not certain if Mark Finley would be able to convince a religious seeker with his religious ideas regarding the power of faith. Would I recommend this book to readers? Yes, I definitely would, this book is very interesting and inspirational.
