He was born in Sandıklı in 1947. In 1971, after completing his higher education in METU Electrical Engineering department, he received his doctorate in philosophy at Istanbul University. He followed Latin and Ancient Greek courses at the same faculty until he submitted his doctoral thesis. He completed his doctorate in 1980, writing his thesis on the Place of Logic in Edmund Husserl, with a minor in Ancient Greek Language and Literature. In the same year, he became a lecturer at METU Humanities Department; he was promoted to assistant professor in 1981, associate professor in 1983 and professor in 1989.
Between 1994 and 2000, he served as the department chair of METU Philosophy Department; in 2003, he assumed the chairmanship of the department again. Throughout his academic life, he gave lectures and conducted thesis studies in the fields of logic, philosophy of science, set theory, inductive and model logic, philosophy of language, philosophy of history, ethics, aesthetics, philosophy of communication. In addition to METU, he has also lectured at Anadolu University Open Education Faculty, Ankara University Faculty of Language and History-Geography Department of Philosophy, Ankara University Institute of Social Sciences and Gazi University. Since 1994, he has been on a quest he calls Philosophy of the Heart. He has published more than 30 translated and copyrighted books and nearly 1000 published articles. He is married and has one child. He has been working in the field of literature since 1965, writing poems, essays and criticism. He also has a published novel.
