Cincinnati Observed features a series of walking tours that comprise a comprehensive guide to the city's architecture, institutions, and landscape. Here John Clubbe offers friendly insight into how the places and people that make up a city interact to form a vibrant urban environment.
It is now a bit dated (1991 publication date), but a wonderful book on the history of Cincinnati. It is told through walking tours of various Cincinnati neighborhoods. With the numerous stories and extensive history, not a practical book to take with you on a walk, but a great armchair history. It brings Cincinnati to life. It is a great reference on the buildings, history, and citizens of Cincinnati. I have read a lot of books on the history and geography of the city and this was the first I purchased to keep as a reference.
Lots of information packed into a digestible format. Parts of it were hard to follow having not spent a lot of time in the city. Google Maps Street View was a great help in that regard.
It's a bit dated (written way back when Riverfront Stadium still existed and before Union Terminal's Museum Center even opened) but it still holds up fairly well and serves as a great architectural tour of Cincinnati, especially downtown and OTR. I'd love to see an updated expanded version.
