Set in England in the 1970's, this short story deals with some not so fun, or potentially boring, issues as tragedy, agriculture, terrorism, prejudice, scarcity, oil, secrets, deception, and bureaucracy – and is still a pretty darn good, engaging story! 3.5 stars.

Most enjoyable
Like Mr. Bowden’s other novels, well written, good characterizations, a satisfying resolution. No magical, supernatural, or science fiction-y plot here, but good solid storytelling.

Interesting
I found the book a bit wordy but enjoyed it none the less. The subject matter not that interesting but enjoyed the characters and the ending.

Good story
However, the ending does not make it clear who exactly Shem was and why she was disguised. But all in all an enjoyable quick read.
