About the author

Bobby Michaels

13 books119 followers
Bobby Michaels lives in Fort Lauderdale with hundreds – nay! thousands – of gorgeous, muscular men (most of them Marines) running around in his mind. Some are memories of sexual encounters, some are the characters from his many Nifty stories and Loose Id novels and some are characters from novels waiting to be written. So, though he lives alone, he is never lonely.

Bobby has been many things in his life. An actor, director, nightclub singer, professional female impersonator, a monk and, for twenty nine years, a social worker and grant administrator for local government. His government career ended in 2007 when a stroke caused the loss of the use of his left arm so that now all his writing is done by dictation through a voice recognition program called Dragonspeak.

But through it all Bobby has been first and foremost a writer, beginning his career writing stories for trashy romance magazines in the 1960s along with stories and poetry through the rest of his life. From the time he was five years old, Bobby has always dreamed of actually holding in his hands a book with his name on it as the author.

An avid reader, Bobby’s Kindle has hundreds of books in it. Most of them are male/male romances because he loves reading them almost more than he likes writing them.

Jock Dorm is a more in depth erotic romance. Not only do the characters become best friends then lovers, but they must deal with coming out to their families, community and deal with the acceptance and prejudice that their love brings to them.

I really loved this book! Bobby Michaels always seems to be able to bring two worthy characters together, sometimes despite the odds and truly makes the relationship successful. Like all of his writings that I have read before this one, this book has many sweet romantic moments, sad moments and very sexually raunchy moments. Whew! The sex is so hot I felt the need to go outside and stand in the freezing weather to cool off!

Dar (Darwin) has had to live in the closet all of his life. In high school, he hid his homosexuality by being the sports manager of the high school team. Although he is no jock, he was accepted...okay more like ignored by the jocks, but never harrassed for being a little different than they are. Dar is very intelligent and has a sarcastic wit that sarcastic people like myself can appreciate. He had to start his junior year in college late due to being ill. Because of this, he must live in the only dorm that had a bed available, which is the Jock Dorm.

Dar is not thrilled with this, but he has no choice in the matter. When he arrives he is very surprised to meet his handsome, huge, wrestling star roommate Gregg. Dar mistakenly assumes that Gregg is a dumb jock. He immediately changes his opinion soon afterward.

Gregg is a very sweet, very smart and handsome hero. He immediately takes the smaller Dar under his wing and they become fast friends. Gregg instigates Dar's acceptance within the Jock community and gets Dar a job as the manager of the wrestling team. Soon the pair become inseperatable and the attraction and intense emotions they feel for one another comes to light.

I liked how Dar and Gregg stood by one another. They not only were a great couple but they made a great team together. They are supportive of one another and work hard to grow, develop and bring out the best in one another. I loved this book and look forward to reading the next book in this series.

A side Note: This book is VERY explicit! If you are easily offended by M/M love scenes this book is not for you.
Also, this book is written in first person. I personally do not like to read first person, but it is so well written, that I knew what was going on within Gregg's mind most of the time as well as the other characters in this book.

I did my best, I swear I did my best! I just... Cannot... Cannot re-read this again!

I am giving this two because, 1) I am generous and 2) I did enjoy some of this book. The kink is my main issue. I am sorry to say that the kink made me very, very sick! I can handle a lot of things, I am good at reading things that make people uncomfortable. But,

I really did try!

I have a high tolerance for violence and rape in books, but things like really gross me out. I am sorry, but I cannot read that filth!

I may never read a graphic sex scene the same way again!

I have read this book a grand total of 2 times. 2 times was too many times and will be my final time. But if you can take all of the... graphic details and well overall odd sex scenes. This book makes me wonder what is out there... I hope that would be the worst, but my gut tells me there is worse.

Please note that I am not a prude, I actually enjoy sex in books. This however, was not what I would call normal. Sex is not meant to make me turn green. Jock straps are not meant to make me want to gorge my eyes out. Some things are not meant to be eaten.

Can I recommend this? Sure! If you have a strong stomach you might enjoy this. I lost a lot with this book... Very upsetting indeed.

Excuse me now, I am off to wash my eyes and brain! Try to think clean!

I'm not even sure where to start. Every time I would read a sex scene I would tell myself to gloss over it and not read it but of course I didn't listen to my inner voice. There is tons of sex in this story, which is understandable. New couple and all. But the sex is just... I dunno. Firstly the "sexy talk" was god awful, for example: I could get around the bad sex talk but I couldn't get around the smelly nasty sex. For example: and It grossed me out more than anything, but what should I expect from a boy with a jockstrap fetish. He not only likes the musk scent he apparently likes the sent of pee *shudder* Also... I should not have to stop reading a book to Google grossness because theres just some things I don't want to know!!

But, even w/ nasty smelly sex, the plot is really good. I'm happy to finally read a not so angst story. I did think some of the dialog, especially with Dar's parents was a bit campy. I know i complained a lot about the sexing but i liked Dar and Gregg as characters. I wont be reading anything else in this series...I'm a tad bit scarred. I don't want to learn any other new vocabulary words... lke smegma... >.<

I've had this book recommended to me so many times, but I've put it off and put it off until now. In fact, I don't really know why it took me so long because the whole "hot college athlete gets with geeky (but secretly hot) roommate" storyline totally turns my crank. So I was definitely looking forward to this.

What a disappointment.

Some parts are ok. But mostly, I just didn't like it. I didn't like the style of writing, I didn't like the dialogue, I didn't even like the sex. Now, I've never said this about a m/m romance before (and I've read a fair amount), but this one actually kind of grossed me out at times. Like, I just don't need to read pages and pages about smelling random guys' jockstraps. Ew. TMI.

Obviously lots of people have enjoyed this book. I don't particularly get it, but that's just me I guess.

4.5 stars I loved these guys. they were great. The story was just so-so but the characters were so lovable I couldn't stop reading it.

Their fetishes were a little weird and a lot gross so i skipped most all of the sexing cause it was making me gag. Too detailed and too just gross

"People either love it or hate it". That's what I was told about this book. And that's exactly what I like to read, because if it can elicit that kind of extreme reaction, then it's bound to be interesting.

Reading the author's bio, I got an insight into why this story feels so much like one of those that used to be churned out monthly in magazines of old. That was Mr. Michael's first incursion into the craft, back in the 1960's, writing short stories for romance magazines. Those kind of stories are characterized by three things: the perfect 'meet cute', insta-love with barely any conflict, and a fairy-tale HEA. Any of you Spanish-speakers who are old enough, I'm referring to Corin Tellado's stories in Vanidades. Goodness gracious, what a blast from the past!

This book, though based on the previously described tried and true formula, has the stamp of being something the author might have wanted to read when he was the main characters's age, a young gay man. This story is a combination of 90% raunchy, dirty, graphically detailed and exquisitely enjoyed sex; 9% cheesy (yes, I said it!) romance, and 1% educational.

The sex, ahh...the sex! Some crazy fetishes were thoroughly explored. Our sense of smell is tied to the most primitive part of our brains. It's the sense we use to find our mates and bond with them. Memories evoked by smell are more emotional, and affect our appetite, stress levels, and concentration. For those who hate that aspect of this book, yeah, I get it, it IS over the top. But do remember, it IS fiction. For those who love it, I get it too, because I thought it rocked! I know there's nothing I love better than the scent of my hubby's neck when we wake up in the morning... Delicious! *sigh*

The educational part comes when the MCs go through the process of coming out. There are certain lines in those scenes that should be memorized by those considering this crucial process. For example, Dar's Dad asks if Dar and Gregg have tried sex with women, before they commit to "being gay" and a long-term relationship with each other. Dar's reply is to ask his Dad if he tried men before marrying his wife. Logical, right? Dar's phone call home and what he tells his Mom, that if they have a problem with his being gay, it's THEIR problem, not his. Very true, and key to establishing that every person is a "who" and not a "what".

Overall, I loved this story in all its aspects and will go on to read the others in the series. Thanks, Laddie!

Dirty Little Not-So-Secret Secret...*whispers* I love this book

This book is pretty much everything that I expected a book called "Jock Dorm" would be. The small and sarcastic geek meets the sweet and damn near Herculean wrestling jock. Cute story and a buffet of unabashedly crazy fetishes.

The scent of dirty jockstraps
Dar, our nerd with the biting wit, has a bit of an addiction. While he masturbates he huffs what he thinks is the succulent scent of thoroughly used and downright dirty jockstraps. How he swipes these jockstraps...well, I'll let that be a surprise.

Cock cheese please
Gregg is our sweet jock with the uncut cock. With an uncut cock you get a little something called smegma, a white substance that collects under the foreskin. Upon discovering this phenomenon, Dar is joyful because, if you remember, Dar is a scent-pig. What's more pungent than cock cheese? To Dar, not much is more delightful or delicious than cock cheese. Yeah, I threw up a little in my mouth a little.

Rimming for reals, yo
All things ass related are celebrated in this book but rimming is described in astounding detail. What it feels like, tastes like, smells like. According to this book, it's a totally transcendent experience.

Cum straight from the oven
Felching. Oh man, felching. I admit I had never heard of eating one's own cum from someone's ass before I read this book. It was more than mildly mind blowing. I had a seriously-did-they-just-do-that moment. But to those guys, felching was a glorious thing.

Even with all of the above, this story still managed to be sweet. I guess some authors can just pull off writing righteously raunchy books. Bobby Michaels was one of them.

First, I hate that I can only give this book one star. I never give one stars. I did see some low ratings before I decided to buy this book for the challenge (sports theme this week), but the blurb and premise interested me and I thought people were just being picky...however...

The book sarted out SO well. I could not put it down for the first 35%. I liked the conflict, I wanted them to get together, and I was in love with Gregg as a character. Then came the...

...smegma licking. I didn't know what smegma was, so I googled it, saw a picture and oh my God. I gagged and gagged and lost my appetite (nearly lost my food in the process). But it wasn't just smegma licking, it was the description of how it tasted and how it smelled and /shudder /gag. I'm never eating cheese ever again - not that I was very fond of it to begin with. Seriously, I just wanted to crawl into a shower and cry. I put the book down for the day. I was afraid to read more, because I feared there would be more of it...but when I continued to read it the day after, I was glad to find the text smegma-free. However, there was another scene at 64% and another at 84%. All I can say is thank God I've finished this story and won't ever have to read it again. I just wish I could erase the whole thing from my mind. There's also the butthole licking. I'm fine with rimming, reading it turns me on, but a description of the smell of the butt and the taste of the inside of the hole...no. Just no. There should have been a warning with the blurb. I'm fine with the jock-sniffing, by the way, though it's not something I would do. I do love to read when guys are attracted to real man-smell (that doesn't include smegma...).

Okay, so that part of the story really - REALLY - disgusted me, but that's no grounds for revoking a star. The very sad thing was that after the 35%, the book just slid down a hill and never picked up again. I'm going to try to be constructive here, but honestly, I hope the author won't read this.

The text felt preechy and so, so corny. The constant love confessions, the constant countings of blessings. Guys can be emotional and express themselves - I have no problem with that in books...but I doubt even girls would go as far as the internal and external declerations in this book. It really got tiring. They're in love. Move on with the plot.

But wait...there was no plot! NO conflict beyond the first 35%. It was just smooth sailing with everyone being understanding, supportive, polite and politically correct. Honestly, I just kept hoping the story would end.

The sex scenes... I have read many, many m/m stories and I love the explicit scenes. They're beautiful, even when they're ugly. This, however, was the first time I felt like I was reading bad porn. Not just the explicity of the scenes, but the dirty talk that felt like a bad, bad porno script with bad actors who were just reading them off the paper. I have no problem with dirty talk in sex scenes, but here... Not to mention that there were pages and PAGES of sex. I get that this is erotic romance, but come on, there has to be a plot too.

Dar's parents...must be rolling up in money. That's all I'm gonna say about his parents or I'll spoil things.

There was also repetition of the same things throughout the text. Interactions with different people was basically copy-paste. The reader doesn't have to witness how an event took place and then be told about it three times as they explain it to three (or four, lost count) different people. There were also stay words in a lot of sentences, words that the author/editor forgot to delete after changing the sentences. Normally I don't mind a few of these, but it got really distracting.

Okay, if the author is reading this, I'm very sorry. I hate to give bad reviews, but this was clearly not my cup of tea for even more reasons than I've stated here. I did find that Gregg was a well rounded character, though I wasn't as impressed with Dar. I won't read the next book because I fear there'll be more of the constant love confessions, as was indicated in this book (knowing what couple is next). The only reason I reviewed this book was because I have to do so for the challenge, and I felt I had to be honest. Again, sorry if I'm hurting your feelings - this is about your book, not you.

Contemporaries don't usually interest me that much (unless they're BDSM-themed), but I adore geeky/nerdish characters and really like small men paired with much larger ones, so I decided to give this one a try.

In the beginning I was really enjoying it. I liked the author's writing style and absolutely loved the characters. Dar and Gregg are so sweet and wonderful together! (5-stars)

The body odor fetish was a little...odd. I've come across a few books that have lightly touched on this particular fetish, but this is the first one that really went in-depth. I found myself bouncing back and forth between finding it kinda hot/fascinating and being a little bit grossed-out.

After a while, though, the large chunks of "preachy", monologuing dialogue about gays was starting to irritate me and spoil my enjoyment of the story. (4-stars) And everything was just too much sunshine and roses. There was no conflict at all, and everyone was so accepting of their relationship, to the point where it felt way over-the-top and very unrealistic. (3-stars)

I also found the very intimate and very detailed "sex talk" between Dar and his parents kind of weird and...disturbing. I was actually more squicked out by that than I was by some of the more raunchy sex scenes.

And then I found myself just getting kinda bored with it all, so I've put it aside for now. (2-stars) I may go back at a later date and try to finish it...

This book was not really what I expected when I read the blurb. I mean it was about what it said, but it didn't really seem real to me. Or I couldn't picture it as real; everything was just too organized and well, easy.

There wasn't any "mystery" to it I guess.

Dar, a "Nerd", who didn't really seem nerdy to me, and Gregg, the jock, got together fairly easy, I mean sure we had a bit of a piff between them at first but never the less they end up together.

This book to me just wasn't my thing; it seen to well orchestrated to the point that I was getting mad at the book. Not that the story didn't have great potential it did, I just think it could have been something more. I really don't like giving two stars to this book, I hate to say that I didn't really like a book by any author because I know the time that was probably put into the writing, but I can not give any more than two for this one.

I do plan to read the second book, about Vince and Drew, maybe it will appeal to me more than this first installment.

In this unbelievable (and mediocre) romance novel, two men with what has to be the most disgusting kinks in the world manage to find each other and fall in love. I wish them a most kinky HEA.

(I appreciate some of the issues present in this book, but the execution of them was.... Interesting)

I was going to give a 5 star rating but I found it got a little too sickly sweet towards the end.

Dar was super worried about moving into the jock dorm at his new college, but when he meets his roommate Gregg, he starts to relax.

Let me tell you something that could make or break this book for you...it's quite raunchy. If you're grossed out by man-smells, dirty jock-strap huffing, deep ass rimming this might not be for you. I loved it!!!

Great love story, a little too "perfect" though. I do plan to read the next book about Matt and Vince.

Only 2 stars, because there was almost no plot, in addition too much sex (This story was rather short.) and everything was too way easy. There were moments, when I was thinking: 'Eww, that's gross". I warned you, seriously ;) All in all, that was simple and fun reading. Though, not for everybody.

When I read the blurb, I thought that I would really enjoy this book. I like the "opposites attract" kind of books.
Here it was a non-issue because Gregg is the greatest guy on earth with nothing but understanding and compassion in his heart. Which is nice of course. Who doesn´t like a person like that. Dar is of course also the greatest guy on earth, sure a little insecure, but he is also very compassionate and understanding (he even helps his poor Mama get over her sexual insecurities). When Dar comes out to his parents, he chews them out royally for being a little in shock, but after that it is all good. It is hard to know how Dar´s parents behaved before he went to college, but now they are the greatest most loving parents for both Dar and Gregg. I shouldn´t complain when it is all good and people are good and happy and I love a sweet romantic story, but this one made even me roll my eyes in all its sugary sweetness.

One of my biggest problem with this book is that it got a little boring. Nothing really happened, except that we get to follow the guys in their every day life. There is a little tension in the beginning before the guys get together, but then from day one it is true love, puppies, rainbows, unicorns, pungent butt smells, jock straps and smegma.

...pungent butt smell and smegma. I know that this is all about peoples preferences and everybody has their own kinks. Smelly jock straps and smegma just don´t happen to be mine. In fact, I really do not like jock straps. I know, I know. I am probably the only person on earth who doesn´t think they are sexy, but I don´t. I think they are even less sexy when they are unwashed and worn three days in a row. I also think that a cock that hasn´t been washed in three days is pretty unsexy too. I wouldn´t give this book less stars just because it doesn´t fit my own kinks, but there were so many other things in this book that didn´t work for me that it was hard to get through it.

This was an OK read. I liked the relationship between Dar and Gregg. I generally like the books I read to have more angst or for the characters to have some kind of challenges (other than emotionl ones) to overcome. It just makes for more of an interesting read in my opinion. I didn't see a whole lot of challenges for them so it made for more of a read just about two guys and their developing relationship. Often times the story seemed a bit "over the top" and I felt like little cherrubs should be flying around. Everyone in the story was very accepting of Dar and Gregg's relationship and although that is the way it should be, that's not true to life and therefore the story seemed very unrealistic. There were characters in the story who were very much against them, but you never meet them. I think it would have been much more interesting if they could have been brought into the story. But that's just my opinion. Regardless, I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series. I'd like to see how things pan out for Dar and Gregg as well as the newly introduced character at the end.

Dar arrives to school late, and his dorm has been given away. The only available dorm is a Jock dorm. His new roommate is Gregg a wrestler. Gregg takes Dar under his wing and shows him around campus. They become good friends and Dar gets offered the position as team manager.

Dar and Gregg eventually admit that they are in love with each other.

I liked the plot, and the story line. I loved both the MC's, and thought the connected well and had good chemistry.

My problems with this book? I personally love sex in books. I have discovered m/m sex can be very hott. I didn't enjoy the sex in this book. There is something these two enjoy that is just utterly disgusting. A sex scene in a book should not make you nauseated! Idk, maybe some men and/or women enjoy this, but I didn't. Also some of the sex scenes.. Well the dirty talk, I thought my eye rolling may result in them completely falling out of my head!! Some of the terms for.. Umm how do I say this, terms like "chute" "he entered my butt" sounds so childish? You could word it as "he entered my body" and it goes from childish, and cornyish to sexy sounding. Just my opinion ;)

Laaaawwwd! What to say about this book. I picked it up bc I thought the premise sounded like a sweet story. Aside from "On Fire" this was the most sex I've ever read stuffed into like 150pgs. Zoinks Scooby-- then there was the whole "scent" thing which was just.....yeah, it was something alright. I actually found myself skimming the sex! Who does that??? Not bc it was boring per se but just bc it was just a little too....well I dont know what it was but, it was definitely too something.

Overall the story was sweet if not a little unorginial. Oh, and it also came complete with a side of cheese. Meh, what can you do...

All that being said, I'll probably read the next one because I want to see what happens with the little brother; I'm sure it'll be alot more of the same but, still I find myself curious....

I'm only one-third through but I'll make an exception and put my as of now very dirty brain into the open...

THIS redefined p0rn...!! So descriptive it put motion p0rn into shame. lol In fact, dirty can't even begin to describe it eeheh. I've been on a mad spree reading romances so this came as quite an unexpected delightful change of pace.

I have found my purpose in life. *swoon*

That aside, this one is a bit dramatic, I think. But I'll let that slide because the p0rn is that good. And, lol, with that vivid detail you don't need exclamation marks on descriptive sentences. XD

Update: Oh this addressed everything that mattered. ;v; "p0rn" is no longer an appropriate word... more like, life as it's supposed to be, after all the anguish. O!

I love jock and geek books. It had a good rating (when will I ever learn good rating doesn't mean the book is actually a good read), so I started reading it.

I was still reading on when I realized this jock was not at all your typical jock and he had a brain, while the geek wasn't a geek at all, just some random, everyday kid.

But I reached the first sex scene and it grossed me the hell out.

I'm suggesting to put up a warning of some kind so people who are not into reading lengthy descriptions of smelling dirty jock straps and other (worse) things won't get a nasty surprise.

Suffice to say I couldn't finish it.

I had high expectations for this book. Story line with hot jock and geeky roommate can't be bad, I thought. Well, I was wrong. I didn't like the writing, I didn't like the characters and the storyline was shallow. I even skipped the sex scenes. There was some good parts but mostly I found this book off-putting.

Tearjerker, sweet, tender.... A great reread. I really loved this book. Well written. About half way though this book I had tears running down my face. I read this with a lump in my throat. Dar and Gregg is a sweet read!

Very Erotic.....strange fetish...not for everyone. I gave 5 star because the erotic part was well done.
