Aaron is a whiz with computers but horrible with people. Painfully shy, it's sometimes all he can do to communicate when he's face to face with anyone. The fact that he has unusually red hair and gorgeous green eyes only makes it worse because people don't want him to hide. But then he's called upon to troubleshoot a problem with the laptop of Yoshiki Fukui, a big shot executive with his company.

Ki is brash, outgoing and painfully handsome and just being in his presence makes Aaron all jittery. When Ki asks Aaron to help him set up a state-of-the-art entertainment system in his new house, Aaron can't resist the lure. Little does he suspect that Ki's got more than just technical help in mind.

Publisher's Note: Tech Support is a yaoi-inspired novella. As such, it contains material that may be offensive to some readers: male/male sexual practices.

My first Jet Mykels book and I feel a bit underwhelmed. I tend to like Yaoi-style books so that aspect of the story didn't bother me, however nothing much happened plot-wise here. I felt like it was a piece of a larger story or something. Some more STORY would have been good. Also, I didn't love the amount of unprotected sex that they had here, but that is a pet peeve of mine in general. Overall, I liked the idea of a shy, dorky character winning over a confident, successful man but I wanted more from this one.

I usually like Jet Mykles books, I know what I'm getting and look forward to it!
This book was a 4* read till the last few pages where it dropped to a 2* so I settled on 3*.
Aaron is a socially awkward geek who is swept off his feet by the successful and wealthy Ki, but he just can't believe he's the right one for Ki.

Other than that liked the story a lot, but it put a damper on my overall enjoyment.

Yuck. This was just bad. All kinds of bad...

No condom

No connection

No communication

No commitment

No consistency

I would have DNF it if it wouldn't have been so short.

Aaron is a painfully shy 25-year-old working on a company's tech support staff. He is nervous interacting with people, although a whiz with his computers. As the new guy on his team, Aaron is sent to the office of Yoshiki Fukui to fix the latest in a series of broken laptops. Aaron immediately finds himself captivated with the tall, slim, gorgeous "Ki" but he doesn't really seem to recognize it as attraction.

After Aaron solves Ki's computer problem, Ki asks Aaron to help him set up an electronics system at home. Aaron is drawn to Ki and agrees to help him. The men spend over a month shopping and getting to know one another before Ki makes a move, sensing Aaron is new to relationships and sex. The two are very hot when they finally do get together and I really loved the combination of Aaron's sweetness and Ki's gentle power.

I really wanted to love this book. It hits so many of my favorite things. I love shy, geeky heroes and the set up really appealed to me. And I enjoyed the power dynamic between the men. Plus, as a fellow redhead, I love stories that feature them. Not to mention that I really liked Mykles' Heaven Sent series. But there were some inconsistencies and other issues that cropped up throughout the story. And over the last third of the book things just fell apart for me.

I really enjoyed the first two-thirds of the book. Likeable main characters in a hot story and a nice "sweep him off his feet" feel to things. I just got frustrated at the end and it bugged me too much to wholeheartedly endorse it. So a mixed review - fun and enjoyable in parts, frustrating in others.

Sweet "geek and stud" quick erotic romance

(On a more general note, the emphasis of the sexual relationship overall seemed really focused on anal intercourse, although almost all of it was off-book. A virginal guy who seemed to never had any sexual contact with another guy before was penetrated during his first, surprising, encounter. That just blew my mind, as many male couples I know never have anal sex, and those that do tend to work up to it. Even for those [in my experience, very small minority] men who really focus on anal intercourse, I've never personally heard of it as a first, wham-bam-thank-you introduction into male/male sex. A virgin who doesn't realize he's gay [or bi] suddenly taking it up his butt, and having it be a life-altering wonderful experience, just really does not jive with what is typical based on my own experience/discussions with men who love men.

I'm not trying to be hypercritical - authors should write what they like to write, and if readers enjoy it, great! Plenty of m/m romance authors follow this "anal sex focused" convention, so I'm not saying this story is particularly problematic compared to others. However, the initial sex scene -even with Ki doing some preparation- was just so jarring to me, I thought I should at least mention my shocked reaction. I still enjoyed this one, and plenty of others liked it just fine.)

I really enjoyed this. I love the idea of a shy techy guy as the MC. He was adorable and I really sympathized with him. I feel quite the same in social situations.

I loved when Aaron and Ki first met. When Aaron walked into his office and they both just stood there are checked each other out. You knew instantly where things would go, even if it hadn't been in a Jet Mykles story, and I was surprised how long it took. But you gotta be delicate with a guy like Aaron, and he didn't suspect anything. Not until he was comfortable enough with Ki to let his guard down.

"The thought of being without you anymore is too depressing for words. Say you'll come home with me, Aaron."

After weeks of just being friends Ki finally swoops in and makes his move, and like most all of the other Jet stories I have read, the poor boy fumbles and tries to push him away. But this story is too short for him to walk out. Things have to start progressing, so Aaron gives in after very little conversation, because really, there is no denying he has wanted Ki since the first moment he saw him.

I really enjoyed their banter and Ki's brashness. They could be pretty funny together, and despite the nature of the conversation, their sexting scene was pretty funny.

I really appreciate that we got to see Aaron telling his parents. Shorts often cut out any afterthought, but I love seeing supportive families. It really made this story feel complete, and unlike with most shorts, I am not left feeling like this was too short or incomplete. Not that I wouldn't love to see more of Aaron and Ki and how they are doing now, but I was given assurance that they are doing well and got to see the whole story of how they got there.

"Did you mean it when you said it? Did you fall in love with me? Because I finally realized that I fell hard for you."

This was ok. I'm a fan of this author but this one didn't impress me. Putting aside my own issue with the pronunciation of the MC Ki as "key" (which consistently threw me out of the story, my brain sees Ki and wants to say "Ki"), I still only found the story ok.

A few sentences seemed like run ons. Plus the MC's didn't have much depth. They had potential, but maybe b/c this one was on the shorter side we didn't get to delve too deep into their layers?? I found they were just ok too.

Obviously my use of OK pretty much sums up this review lol

This was a nice little gay-for-you/out-for-you ... I do find angst that is completely centered around mis-communication annoying though so I held back one star ... the characters were very likable in this one ... there was a bit of insta-love but given the 'virginal' Aaron, it was easy to see him falling head-over-tea kettle for the older, more experienced Yoshiki ... a nice un-demanding, sweet read.

Aaron goes to the boss to save his laptop and the data but the truly funny part for me was his boss. Asian. Who messed it up by stabbing at the keys too hard! (I can relate.) A love affair grows out of this? An affair, maybe, but this felt too short for even insta-luv. Cute but not long enough. I also felt Aaron was helping Yoshiki because of his job/feeling sorry for him and that he'll never play on electronics like the ones Yoshiki can afford. Good premise but too short.

Tech Support is a lot of fun to read. It’s incredibly quick with easy and fluid text with great, classic characters. The sex scenes were liberally scattered throughout this short story and the plot had just a little bit of angst, a little bit of romance and a relatable shy hero that most romance readers will simply fall in love with. I wouldn’t be surprised if many readers had this listed as a favorite story from Mykles.

The m/m romances that I’ve read from Mykles all tend to be along the same lines - very yaoi with classic young, beautiful characters. A hint of angst, scorching sex scenes, and fast moving dialogue keeps these rather short stories as lightening fast reads but highly enjoyable; surprisingly so considering the writing tends to be simplistic, but it works well with clean prose and the absence of overly complicated or dense descriptions. For Mykles’ fans, her ability to keep old themes fresh and her characters interesting and delighting with a healthy dose of hot sex makes these somewhat formulaic books sure winners each time. Helping this fact is that she mixes up her writing with several styles and genres so she doesn’t turn into a monster author churning out the exact same thing repeatedly with a different title.

Aaron is a bit of character gold. He’s a shy, introverted computer geek that works in an IT department as his way of interacting with others. Not only will a number of readers relate to Aaron but his classic uke antics are sure to please. His hesitant and bashful crush on Ki is easily charming as is his excitement over the complicated set up of electronic equipment. Aaron’s tendency to run away and give up when he’s nervous or out of his element is understandable, if a sign of his immaturity. Although he’s twenty five, Aaron is a virgin in more ways than just sexual. He’s never dated, never had sex, never had a relationship and has very few friends – most of whom are of the online variety. It’s easier for him to hide than face his fears of other people and actually interact. Truthfully it’s Ki’s insistence on the relationship that gives them a HEA.

Yoshiki is also a classic character that works even with the stereotype. His confidence and sexual dominance allow Aaron to follow without letting his fears and nerves get in the way. Ki is the one that pursues Aaron and their relationship time and time again as the stronger personality yet his obvious adoration of Aaron makes him charming and an easy character to like, even with his actions at the height of the plot drama. Ki’s actions after Aaron broke things off may not be the most popular, but it fits well with his character and motivations. If there is any problem it’s with the lack of condoms and safe sex measures. While I tend not to want to harp on this and generally let this detail go in reviews, given Ki’s casual commentary on his sex life, this should have been insisted upon.

Together Ki and Aaron are a great couple with sizzling chemistry and a clear HEA ending. The likeable characters combined with the fluid writing style should allow new fans and old to breeze through this book and then want to read it again, perhaps even coming close to the comfort book title as this fills all the basics for a satisfying romance. Just go read it.

Who is the artist of these covers? All of them are so ugly. Looks like a cheap romance book. They are embarrassing, but Jet Mykles is such an expert in yaoi novels I almost forgive her awful covers.

Her formula works for me always, in spite of being so predictable. But again, only yaoi fangirls may appreciate this kind of plot. Cute uke+ handsome seme: Aaron is a geek nerd who likes to work on computers and hates to socialize. He meets Yoshiki, an important businessman, who takes in instant like on this beautiful boy and convinces him to help him to buy all sort of electronics for his new house.

What can I say, I love Asian guys. Put a Japanese hottie as one of the main characters and I am hooked. Although Yoshiki is not entirely Japanese -being natural blond, for example- he has almond shaped eyes. And speaks Japanese. Two major turn on!

For around 85% of the story it was a 3 stars. When they are just friends, they are cute together. When they become lovers, it is very hot... Jet Mykles knows how to write nosebleeds scenes (although I would have prefer less doggy styles and more missioner ones, but well... it is less romantic IMO). When Aaron meets the evil bitch Rachel (poor women, they are all evils in MM romances!) and he gets depressed and leaves Yoshiki because Yoshiki has to be with a woman, and needs to have children, and blah, blah, I was not upset. It is something that usually happens in MM romances, and I like it. It makes the story a bit bittersweet, specially when both men prefer to choose their love over family and reputation.

But then comes that moment that made me cringe and drop the rating to 1 star. Sorry Jet Mykles, but you were enormously wrong to write that.

So Yoshiki comes back to Aaron to tell him that he was wrong to give up on them. He was mad because Aaron thought Yoshiki would sleep with Rachel. Rachel is last season; Aaron is his only lover... Yoshiki tells him he thought about what Aaron said, and he even tried to forget Aaron. How? He called Rachel. He spent a lot of time with her, sleeping with her. I am not saying ONCE, but SEVERAL times, the whole weekend. Oh, but he did it anally too, because he could not forget Aaron's ass. Riiiight. Really romantic, Yoshiki. NOT. We all wanted to know the many times you f***d with Rachel but that you could not enjoyed it. **eyerolls** A**HOLE~

Ahhh, and another pet peeve was how Aaron comes out with his parents. No depth, no effort from the author's side, all very convenient. MEH.

Terrible. The last part is cringe-worthy and diminished my like for the first 85%.

I really enjoyed this story and though I started late, I stayed up to finish it when my brain was telling me to stop pretending to be awake. It was a sweet story about a guy who is so incredibly shy, he finds it difficult to interact with people away from his computer. Strangely, Aaron's shyness disappears around Ki so quickly he can't really explain it.

The only thing that bothered me about this story was the speed their relationship travelled. but it just seemed quick for someone who wasn't entirely sure of his sexuality and really shy to jump at the chance to be with someone.

The other thing that bothered me was Oh well.

For the record, Aaron was pretty enough that I would've shamelessly come on to him the same way Ki did. lol Of course, I might have gotten different results...

This is the first Jet Mykles book that I have read. I enjoyed her style and will definitely check out more of her work. I am pretty much biased to love stories with a geek/hottie pairing however there were a few things that I didn't like about this book. The main one would be Ky's (sort of) cheating on Aaron. One could argue that they were seperated so it doesn't really count as cheating, but I'm sorry that arguement didn't work for me on Friends and it doesn't work here. I also didn't like the way Aaron was so quick to ignore/forgive Ky's indescretion. Yes it was in character for Aaron, being that he is extremely socially awkward with submissive tendencies but there are somethings that should not be just glossed over. The ending did seem a bit rushed to me, although that could be just an unfortunate side effect due to Tech Support being a relatively short read. I think the author intended for this to be a light fluffy feel good book, but I for one really would have liked to have seen more of a consequence to Ky's not quite infidelity.

I loved this one. What a fun, easy read. I don't care for redheads, preferring the stereotypical tall, dark and handsome but I made an exception for Aaron and I'm glad I did because he's adorable in the way Jet Mykles' 'other' protags are. They're the perfect foil/complement to the other guy and I find them irresistible though I can't say I've read many JMs.

I've seen the Heaven Sent series get very good reviews but never bought any so I plan to hop over to Loose Id and buy the series.

Nitpick Moment: I couldn't help wondering how Yoshiki Fukui ended up with a Japanese surname if he's only quarter Japanese from a grandmother. The Japanese, like most everyone else in the world, inherit the father's surname, not the mother's.

Sweet but predictable story, mostly sex, made me happy EXCEPT unsafe sex which just PISSES ME OFF. The love interest confused me with his looks, really hard to picture how that happened, but they were both adorable.

But the big problem? It's Heat MEISER and Snow MEISER not "Heat Meister" and "Snow Meister." There is just no excuse for that kind of mistake.

3.5 stars rounded down to three because you just can't have someone love The Year Without A Santa Clause and get the names wrong.

There actually is BDSM threads running through here but more of a dominant lover than anything requiring contracts and safewords. Both characters were enjoyable - but not really well fleshed out. The geeky one was very socially awkward - and it felt awkward to read it too. Loved Ki - and his openness and would have dearly loved a lot more about him and his background. The tech parts of fun and this one has a HEA which satisfies.

I don't know what it is, but I love this author. I really enjoyed this book, there was just enough angst to make it interesting. I always love the hopelessness at the end before they come back together.

But, it's short and there is not much to the plot. That is my biggest complaint--- I wanted more!

Cute, fluffy read, if a bit basic in the plot department and not exactly realistic. The character interactions were fun. I'm willing to overlook the difference of lifestyles as a matter of suspension of disbelief and consider it more HFN instead of HEA.

***WHY THE RE-READ***
Once upon a time I was a huge manga fan.

I quickly found Yaoi/Yuri because I'm a huge romance sucker. The thing with Yaoi/Yuri though is that most of the time it's straight up erotica with a little bit of almost no plot. Which was fine with me at the time. But after a while I wanted to read books without pictures.
So romance it was. I don't know when exactly but I discovered this sub-genre (can you really call it a sub-genre?).
description
Yaoi in word form. In English! At the time I bought every e-book there was from these kind of authors. SIDENOTE:
Enough reminiscing. Back to the now.

For some reason while I was scrolling through Goodreads I began thinking about a book cover. This cover had a very distinct art style and it was driving me mad that I couldn't remember the author and/or the title.
After getting sidetracked many many many times I've now started a new project: Re-reading books I once upon a time loved but didn't add to Goodreads in this genre. I don't know how I came to the conclusion this was a good idea but there you go. This is one of those books. I won't re-read everything by this author. Ain't nobody got time for that. So I made a selection from the most interesting sounding ones.
Dear Future-Me,

Write a goddamn review or else I will be pissed.

This was my first read of Jet Mykles and I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed my foray into her world. I'd seen her books and posts at the Fiction with Friction and have been intrigued by the covers and summaries but never got around to reading the books I'd purchased. [Book: Tech Support] has been on my iPod Touch for several months and I can't believe I waited so long to read it!

Summary: Aaron is a whiz with computers but horrible with people. Painfully shy, it’s sometimes all he can do to communicate when he’s face to face with anyone. The fact that he has unusually red hair and gorgeous green eyes only makes it worse because people don’t want him to hide.

But then he’s called upon to troubleshoot a problem with the laptop of Yoshiki Fukui, a big shot executive with his company. Ki is brash, outgoing and painfully handsome and just being in his presence makes Aaron all jittery.

When Ki asks Aaron to help him set up a state-of-the-art entertainment system in his new house, Aaron can’t resist the lure. Little does he suspect that Ki’s got more than just technical help in mind.

What I liked about this book: Mykles has a great storytelling ability that draws you into the story from the beginning. Her characters are very manga-esque in their descriptions (the beautiful, almost androgynous and shy uke that falls for the very manly seme) and Aaron and Ki fit those molds perfectly! The angst in the story plays beautifully against the extremely erotic scenes she weaves.

This was a great introduction to the amazing talent of Jet Mykles and I'm looking forward to reading her other works.

Excerpt: Aaron shuddered when Ki’s teeth closed gently but firmly on his neck. Yoshiki, his brain murmured as Ki’s lips closed the seal. The suction as he drew in made Aaron moan and clench at the other man’s shoulders. The words “need to have you” followed that terribly erotic name in Aaron’s bewildered mind, releasing his reluctance in a rush of desire. He wanted the man, but was he prepared for what that meant?

One of Ki’s hands slid from underneath Aaron to tug up his t-shirt. Ki’s lips reclaimed Aaron’s again as that hand slid over bare skin. Aaron gave up the fight entirely and wrapped his arms around Ki’s neck, sucking in the tongue that pushed into his mouth. It was Ki’s turn to moan. When Ki rocked his hips against Aaron’s again, Aaron met the move, bending his knees to make his groin more of a cradle for Ki.

Ki broke from the kiss with a sharp inhalation. Aaron panted, eyes closed and bearings shot. Ki shifted lower, pushing Aaron’s t-shirt up to his armpits. Aaron gasped when Ki’s tongue teased his taut nipple. Ki scraped his nails lightly down Aaron’s torso, making the redhead quiver; then he followed the movement at a more leisurely pace with his lips and tongue. Aaron’s legs moved at Ki’s command, adjusting so that when the blond finally backed away far enough, he ended up kneeling between Aaron’s thighs.

Green eyes met black over the length of Aaron’s bare torso. Ki grinned, hooking his fingers in the waistband of both Aaron’s shorts and the underwear beneath. Aaron bit his lip but didn’t protest, which only made Ki’s grin grow. Ki pulled the clothing out and carefully down, encouraging Aaron’s dick to nudge free of its confines and lay red and hard against his naturally hairless belly. Ki hummed his appreciation, but took the time to fully remove Aaron’s shorts and underwear before settling down on knees and elbows between Aaron’s thighs.

“Ki?”

Ki dragged his tongue up the crease between thigh and groin before he looked up at Aaron’s face. “Aaron.”

“I ...”

One dark eyebrow arched a question, but when Aaron couldn’t form words, Ki’s smile warmed. “Don’t worry about a thing, beautiful. Just enjoy.” He glanced down at the twitching dick lying before him. “I will.”

Aaron clutched the couch beneath him. Ki lowered his head. This time he dragged the flat of his tongue up Aaron’s cock from base to tip. Aaron cried out, instinctively arching off the couch. Ki chuckled, grabbing hold of his hips to press them back down before he repeated the lick. Aaron had never felt anything more heavenly. Long before Ki suckled the tip into his mouth, Aaron’s eyes closed and his brain scattered into a million pieces.

“Yoshiki,” he moaned, hardly aware that he used Ki’s full name. But the effect on Ki was immediately apparent. The blond growled softly, fingers clutching Aaron’s hips. Because Aaron’s dick was shoved deep in Ki’s mouth at the time, the rumbling made him cry the man’s full name again. Suction. Pure, raw, head-bobbing suction in a relentless, unending rhythm. Wonderful. Horrible. “Ki, I’m ... I can’t hold ...”

His dick popped briefly out of Ki’s wet mouth to allow him to snap, “Do it.” Then it was back. The sucking. The pure heaven. The maddening push until Aaron could no longer control it. His balls drew up, his hips fought Ki’s hold, and with one agonized scream, he came in Ki’s suckling, swallowing mouth.

I thought it was okay, but for the length, it didn't add much to the characters where i felt like i knew them. It was a short PWP, so not really what i was looking for. Otherwise, there were some pretty cute bits in it that made the story easy to finish.

A solid 3 1/2 stars. A short and sweet read. Seems like I like my geeky IT guys. And what's not to like about a suitor that spends weeks preparing the ground by not coming on to you at all, but rather getting you all riled up about the technical specs of Entertainment Systems. A distinct lack of endless angsty MC moany monolgue helped too.

Ki is a high-powered executive, utterly comfortable in social situations, and in bed with both men and women. Aaron is an IT worker in Ki's company who's cripplingly shy and sexually inexperienced. It takes a while, but when Ki finally makes a move, Aaron has spent enough time installing Ki's home electronics to feel comfortable saying yes to both Ki's advances and his own feelings. They have a long honeymoon period, but an unexpected party throws a wrench in their relationship.

Aaron's foolishness during and after the impromptu party I can chalk up to inexperience, jealousy, and social anxiety. So while it annoyed me--I dislike such lack of directness--his actions seemed in keeping with his character. Ki's temper and decision to pick up an old sexual partner were off-putting, though this, too, was in keeping with his character.

I suppose I expected their misunderstanding to be resolved more quickly, with less not-technically-infidelity, and firmer decisions. In that way the story mimicked real life: realizing and accepting what you really want can take time and serious thought. The beginning of the story made me think the rest of the story would be pretty light, though, with Aaron's awkwardness and Ki's experience blending to make a simple and sweet love story. I didn't expect the heaviness of them being separated for weeks, or of Ki sleeping with a woman to try to forget Aaron.

I also didn't entirely understand what attracted Ki and Aaron to each other, and think there were sex scenes (Ki always topping and firmly in control) where more direct character- and relationship-building scenes would have been more appropriate. To be honest, I didn't like Ki terribly much either. He seemed like a dominating, somewhat entitled, angry person. So while it annoyed me that Aaron was so comfortable running away, Ki's anger seemed dangerous to stay around, especially for someone so ridiculously shy and introverted.

The way that Jet Mykles describes her beautiful male characters - I can picture them so well, and they are just...well, yummy is the cleanest word that comes to mind. Just lollipop good, and I'd like to be male for an hour just to, well, you know. (see what Jet Mykles books do to me? LOL)

No matter how improbable the situations, I fell in love with Aaron right from the get-go. Of course, he's a shy, awkward-yet-gorgeous redhead with long hair and I just want to hug him, and kiss him, and tell him that everything is going to be ok. I really loved that the sex didn't happen right away, that they got to know each other first. Outside of the Heaven Sent series, Aaron and Ki are my favorite characters so far. Ki knows what he wants, but takes his time, and the whole time you are rooting for them to get together, and then they do, and I'm always left wanting more at the end. I just want to see them living their regular life together, facing challenges together, taking care of each other. Just so sweet :)

OK, so I got a bit sappy over this one. Obviously, I love this book, and I am a big fan of the author. Highly recommend to readers of erotic gay romance.
