Not Human

Rate this book
The sequel to After the zombies. Although it can be read as a standalone book.

What can you do when zombies are everywhere? Aiming for the head is the easy part. The real challenges are distinguishing zombies from humans and knowing which humans to trust.

Not learning their lesson from the Manchester outbreak, the government are still intent on creating a more compliant race. It looks like they will keep trying until they get it right, or until humanity is completely wiped out, whichever happens first.

Grace knows she carries the cure. She knows she can't become one of them, but that doesn't mean she can't be affected if she is bitten. Some things are worse than death. Sometimes having to face yourself, is worse than than facing the monsters and other times, it's hard to tell the difference.

Amazing story, good pace, characters like Grace were very well described and their attitude and behaviour became clear a few chapter into the story, story had a twist which surprised me and I found it worth while as the literature of author was unique and engaging to continue with the story, it would be best to read after the zombies first to get a better understandings of characters and how they got to the point where they're and if you don't, there are reference and flashbacks to give you a wider picture, very good read.

Not Human is a pretty good story, but needs editing..

I enjoyed this story and can recommend it, but the editing is poor and that detracts from the enjoyment. Hopefully it will get polished up and re-released. Didn't mean to make up a new word, but the meaning is clear. Enjoy!

I received this book for free via Goodreads First Reads.

I admit I have not read the novella that this is the sequel to but I did find I could keep up with the story.

I think my main problem with this book is I feel like I have read it before. It uses a lot of clichés especially in the dialogue. It does have some variations of zombies which are interesting but I found it too hard to warm to any of the characters. For a relatively short book it felt like there was a lot of padding too.

I'm giving it two stars as I feel it has some good ideas but the overall execution was average at best.

I will point out that the copy I received was a proof copy and there are errors in it. I did not consider that when choosing a grade for it as they could possibly be fixed by the time it is released.
