The Naiad Chronicles continues! After only a few short years of peace, the Amanon-Nhim return with even more serpentalis and new, troubling creatures. As their motives and intentions become clearer, Paolini is still one of the front lines of defence for the Seraph Kingdom, but the loss of magic is becoming more apparent as even he begins to struggle.
The princess of the Seraph Kingdom, however, is on a mission of utmost importance – or so she has been told by her father. Violet’s journey to visit the four stewards of the Guardians’ castles was something she’d longed dreamed about, though the reality isn’t going quite how she planned it to…
Oh, did this book ever amaze me! The plot is so well-thought-out and intricate, and I love watching the puzzle slowly work itself out (I won't spoil anything, but let's just mention Bumble, Bill, etc). Though this book is a bit more serious than the first, it still has so many little bursts of lightheartedness that make it all better! I loved meeting new characters, particularly Angelo, and enjoyed getting to know old characters better, like Shiroi. And even with so many character's plots being woven together, not for one moment was the importance of Paolini, whom this entire series revolves around, lost. The animal characters became all the more adorable, particularly Juke. While this is a really long book (700+ pages) it didn't feel long at all! There's a "must keep reading" quality that kept me hooked, and I'd fly through 60-100 pages at any time. And I'm sure there's so much I'm forgetting to say, but all I can stress is this: read this series! This is epic fantasy at its best, and with the plot thickening and consequences getting more serious, it's only getting better. I am being pulled deeper and deeper into the world of Naiad, but I'm fully ready to take the plunge into the third book!
