Let The Game Begin - A story of Revenge, Betrayal and Chess!

Many years ago - 4000 to be precise, a prince is killed because a ruler from the enemy world's deadly conspiracies.

His father is out and about and seeking vengeance. And This revenge, he will get for sure!

Is that going to be easy?

I don't think so! No!

Like a Dan Brown's novel, that you can't help turning pages after pages, its suspense gets hold of you. Firmly!

The author never stops to amaze you with surprising twists in story line.

Expecting an adventurous and thrilling ride from a small book, I grabbed it up and it cleared the tests with flying colors!

Always hunting for the books with sequels, for me, it turned out to be a rockstar book!

Although it became a little confusing for me in few pages, that who was who and what was what, but when I paced for the ending, it started settling down.

And once it happened, It brought out a curiosity in me that I can't wait for its sequel!

With a thrilling and fast paced narration, Sandeep Sharma has definitely done a fantastic job!

Turns out I had a slew of ARCs to finish. So, here goes nothing.

Interesting premise, horrible execution. This was a tiny book, but the grammar is so appalling, I cried myself to sleep. Author has zero knowledge of past perfect tense, and my delicate grammar Nazi brain cannot handle it. ARCs have become a platform for me to make PSAs, apparently, so prospective authors, listen, if you have an idea for a book and you think it's a good one, let me write it for you - I'll get the tenses right, the voices right, even the numbers right. You don't have to pay me, or give me any credit; I don't care about any of that. What I do have strong feelings about is the brutal assassination of the English language. I can't sit here and see it butchered mercilessly. It makes me want to weep. I'm not asking you to embellish your prose with grandiloquent words, and figures of speeches; far from it, actually. I'm only asking you to recapitulate your 6th grade grammar class, and get your tenses right. There's also some serious work that needs to be done about the sentence structure, but before I get to that, I'd like to clarify that the past perfect tense involves the use of the word 'had' before the verb, because it refers to an action that has already been completed. My point is, if an action has already been completed, and you're talking about it after the effect, said action has to be preceded by 'had'. Geez, Anuradha. No one came here for a grammar lesson, you say? Well, when the tense has been ignored at every. single. goddamned instance, I feel like people need to be made aware that the tense actually exists. There were errors regarding the other tenses as well, like the simple past tense, and past participle tense, but nothing quite as blatant as this. However, the first conclusion I drew as I progressed through this book was that Mr. Sharma had paid little attention in his grammar class, when the teacher was discussing tenses.

Anyway, moving on, let's talk a bit about sentence structure, shall we? The problem with this book was that there is no sentence structure. So I've read my fair share of badly written books, and the one thing I can say about them is that even if the writing there has been bad, it's been uniformly bad. Here, however, there is no uniformity in the errors made while framing sentences also. I mean, I tried rectifying some of the errors, but thing is, in most cases, I had to rewrite the entire sentence for it to make any sense, while being grammatically correct. When your English teacher told you to let words flow, this wasn't what she meant. For instance, you don't shoot someone on her head , you shoot someone in the head. Anyway, there are too many things wrong with this book grammatically, and for me to try and change these things without risking therapy would be impossible.

The story itself was very well crafted; honestly, this was the book's only redeeming factor. It was sufficiently suspenseful, and while I did feel like some aspects were pretty far-fetched, these aspects did not overpower the suspense bit. Trust me, you guys, the grammar in this book is the worst I've read so far, and yet, I managed to get to the end of this book. The story was good. I love me a good thriller, and this makes for one. It reads like any good Criminal Minds episode, albeit with its own Bollywood-esque touch. I wouldn't say it had me guessing till the end, but I was curious enough to want to know what happened next. I do dock points for ending it on a cliff-hanger, but I kind of want to know what happens next, ya know? Except, maybe hire a ghostwriter for part two, because, grammar. Man, you have got work on the grammar.

Disclaimer: I had received a copy of this book courtesy the author, for an honest review. So, that’s what I’m going to write.

Four thousand years ago, a terrible crime had been committed. The crown prince of the kingdom of ‘Chaturanga’ had been treacherously killed during the war against the arch enemy: the kingdom of ‘Sarprakt’. To avenge him, his father, i.e. King Viratha does something even more heinous. But what was the role of the omniscient seer Vyaapi in all these? Can he stop the king? Can he help him in finding out the traitors, and punishing them?

In the present times, a supremely skilled serial killer seems to be on the loose. He, or she, chooses his targets with consummate skill, and dispatches them with ease. The only link between all those who have got killed: they had received a piece from the game of chess, and a message that means “let the game begin”. Who is the killer? Why is RAW involved in the investigation? And above all, what is the role of the vanished Indian Chess prodigy in all of these, who had once vanquished the undisputed king of Chess in less than ten moves?

I hope you can guess the level of expectation that I had felt with respect to this book. Unfortunately, the book eventually turned out to be a lacklustre piece of bad writing that completely lost itself towards the end in its own maze. Why? To enumerate all those lapses, apart from the insipid & often incorrect English, and the technical errors involving the procedure associated with a criminal investigation as well as history/mythology, would unravel the entire tapestry that the author had sought to construct, so I would refrain from that. Also, although the author fails to mention it anywhere on the cover or the description, this book is actually part one of a series, and hopefully a lot of mess that has been created, would be subsequently cleared up.

I still lament at all the possibilities that got lost! Hopefully, before writing the next part, the author will sit tight with someone who knows things about procedures, technologies, mythology, and the art of thriller-writing.

An apt cover, a chess piece, an old paper burning and the blood in letters actually it interlinked you'll realize once you completed the novel.

Author Sandeep Sharma has chosen Historical thriller, The story revolves in two timelines past and present, from the serial killings to mysterious curse behind murders.
The chess piece and strange message is a clue to find that Chess killer when the P.M received it too, the case handover to CLAW security personnel's of prime minister.
They find that all strange messages leads to 4000 years ago story of two kingdoms chaturanga and sarprakt, When chaturanga's only prince murdered in mischievous way and curse of that makes history to repeat itself.
The murders and chess the way interlinked both and makes that more interested that is unique speciality of author. Viratha introduced himself as Vyaapi makes story more interesting.
DNA reincarnation and electrical signals segments proven how hard he researched to write.. Hats off sir.
Many characters to remember throughout because of two timelines but the easy language and the way of portrait makes it easy.
LET THE GAME BEGIN a invitation for a good experience for all murder mystery / thriller lovers.

Overall no mistakes, negatives are not there want to agree a good work from a new writer.

A worth waiting for next part, how the mysteries were going to end. Do read, don't miss it.

What I liked :

Let the game begin is a historical thriller with a hint of fantasy and supernatural elements is set in India and depicts the tale in two timelines , one of the timelines being the present day the other 4000 years ago .

The premise of the book is very interesting as the author creates a origin story for the game of chess and links it with various supernatural and historical events and then creates a mystery of a string of brutal killings with various chess pieces left behind the dead body .

The book follows a very fast pace and focuses mainly on the killings of the present day and then via various means such as book blurb , 3rd person depiction and other sources details the events of 4000 years back which involved a conspiracy that's responsible for the action of the present day killer .

And although the mystery was revealed in a pretty predictable manner for me , I did read many reviews that stated that they were taken by surprise at the finale reveal. So although I don’t personally feel that the mystery was unpredictable , there are enough audience of the book who will contest that statement.

One of the biggest plus for me was depiction of the two 4000 years old kingdom that have a major role in the story of the book , these lands were crafted beautiful but sadly not explored enough , leaving the fantasy lover in me pretty disappointing , but then again for a book as thin as this one the amount of world building that was done was also acceptable.

Cons:

If you head over to the book details at Goodreads , your eyes will be graced with the presence of one of the most scathing reviews of the book where a particular reviewer details the many grammatical errors in the book that pushed her Grammar Nazi self into an enraged state. Personally however I failed to notice many grammatical errors or typos and for me at least those that I found were very few and didn’t bothered me much.*

*but then again I’m not much of a grammar nazi or a grammar genius myself

635895348340321591-2002208007_yourewelcomecitizen_16db7f66a8b6851f2a0c6ea92955449a

But there were plenty of things that did bother me, not least by the fact that how generic the characters were and how over the top the story sometimes become . Sure the book is pretty thin in itself to create much use of the characters, but that in itself is a big con of the book . In efforts to make the book short the author completely missed opportunities to develop the characters which would have actually made the deaths, the betrayals, the sorrow meaningful. At present the characters of the books feel so irrelevant that I didn’t care by the end of the book if any of them died or was in pain .In fact I’m still trying to figure out who was the lead character in the book because apart from the killer all the characters felt irrelevant.

The lead character as per the book blurb is actually a police officer named Surya and yet apart from one insight into the whole case Surya is seen doing absolutely nothing in the whole book , on contrary one of his friend in the team of detectives , Pratham , seemed to be doing more and acting more like a leader than Surya ever did

Meanwhile the world at present is filled with many thrillers and in need to catch a readers eye all thrillers need to do something that really impresses upon the thinking of the reader .With a plot involving serial killers , one hoped that the author will try to make these killings the eye catching point and yet most of the killings were pretty lame and felt unimaginative .

Those kills that were unique were either pretty far-fetched to believe and on one scenario absolutely rubbish. by some sad misfortune it's another book in a succession of book that sadly I find to have had a lack of research the author tried to use puffer fish skin to cause an instant death by touching , the problem , Puffer fish poisoning is lethal to human when ingested and not when it’s simply touched upon and even on the event of the poisoning there’s actually a time span 10-45 minutes before symptoms actually start appearing and then a span of 4-6 hours when the patient can be given medical attention and be saved.* and yet in the book the death occured in seconds of the victim touching the foul material.

* and oh while we are at it lemme just notify that puffer fish poisoning causes tachycardia(raised heart rate) not bradycardia as depicted in the book

pros-and-cons

Conclusions :

All in all the book was made of a very unique and interesting premise but the execution was severely lacking and while I have had my rants about over descriptive books before , I felt this book needed some descriptive narration to help itself . Filled with countless plot-holes in an already over the top plot the book failed to capture my imagination and even create much suspense for me to read book 2 of the series .That said it's not actually bad enough to warrant excess criticism and sadly not good enough to deserve applaud . Fairly average is my verdict

Brilliant plot comes together with brilliant story-telling in Let the Game Begin to create one of the memorable thrillers I have read by an Indian author. Written by Sandeep Sharma, the book takes you on a thrilling ride filled with a number of twists and turns. The plot is captivating and the way the game of chess has been used in the story-line is certainly fascinating. The plot is masterfully created with a beautiful fusion of imaginative symbolism and technical knowledge. The story is a combination of some of the events happening in 2016 and events that took place long back in historical time. Consequently, the events in this book keep jumping between the past and the present. This process works well as it allows the reader to gain an understanding of ‘what happened in the past?’ and what is the relation of those past happening with the events that are taking place in present. In other words, the novel under review represents two stories woven into one with a number of interesting twists to create one page-turning story.

The story revolves around two ancient kingdoms known as Chaturanga and Sarprakt. It tells us how the king of one kingdom conspired to demolish the king of the other kingdom. After a gap of almost 4000 years, the defeated king comes back to take revenge. A number of murders started to take place in the present day world. These serial killings and the pieces of chess left behind by the murderer shock the world. Is the king from the past really taking revenge or is there something more sinister? What is the connection of chess pieces with these murders? Is history repeating something that took place a long time back? Read the book to know answers of these intriguing questions.

The book is fast paced and will keep your attention from the first page till the end. The plot has been woven in such a way that readers will not lose their interest at any point of time. The characters have been sketched well and scenes have been created adroitly. One can see the efforts put by the author to create these scenes. The last thing I want to say about this book is the reason behind giving it three stars instead of four. This book definitely deserves solid four stars but the presence of too many typos and lack of good editing stopped me giving the same. Additionally, I also feel that there was a certain potential to add a few more pages in the book.

This is the second book by Sandeep. His first book hey Dad! meet my Mom was a joint venture with Leepi Agrawal. This romantic thriller, without a doubt, was an admirable first attempt by the authors. Now, with the book under review, Sandeep again leaves a good impression on readers.

Overall, the book is a brilliant work by Sandeep Sharma where the events continuously move between past to present and back again. The novel draws the readers into the complicated lives of some people of present time who are trying to make sense of some of the events happening around them. This book is a perfect read for the readers who love to read thrillers. The book ends with a promise of a sequel and I will be eagerly waiting for the same.

Let me start by admitting how close this book was to receiving five stars from me. I was given the opportunity to review the author’s debut work, and so, my sole reason for wanting to give away all the stars is the range of improvement I witnessed in Let the Game Begin.

It has a compact story-line which is both unique and fascinating. A series of murders connected somehow to the ancient past. A difficult concept to swallow for those who expect a good mystery based on realism. However, I’d request such readers to step out of their comfort zone and at least give this book a try. It deserves it.

The story revolves around two time lines, that of present day India where a series of murders is proving more and more intricate to solve. And of a time four thousand years in the past, where two ancient kingdoms spun their own destruction through a treacherous game, a game that seems to have revived once again. The interlinking of past and present events is handled deftly. Being that there are so many fantastical links connecting the present crimes to this ancient tale of betrayal, I couldn’t start to imagine how the story would unfold. Even so, the author holds on to the suspense; he doesn't cut any important details yet keeps the mystery intact.

The story has a good pace. The ways in which the murders happen are all different and score points for being creative. How they link to the game of chess is one more feat. This time, I have no complaints against any loose ends. I definitely liked how it concludes.

What hinder this story for me are the grammar mistakes and typos. I expected a proofread copy, but I can’t put the blame on the author for this. Other than that, I felt that the dialogues of the present day characters are somewhat lacking. They could have been more gripping and layered, expressing more uniqueness or emotions of the different characters, especially that of Surya and Pratham. Also, I have some misgivings regarding the investigation procedure. I felt there isn’t much of a real investigation involved, such as forensic reports or interrogating any relatives of the victims that may have lent more credibility. It felt that they progress only by grasping obscure hints and theories, at least in the initial phase where the deep connection to the past isn’t so pronounced. Nevertheless, the story is captivating and the author seems to deliver on his promise.

My sincere thanks to the author for providing me with a copy of this story in exchange for an honest review.

Thanks Mr Sandeep Sharma for providing me a review copy. A solid 3.5 stars.

I lost hope on Indian writers because apart from Ashwin Sanghi everybody is writing either romance or Myth. So this book is very refreshing. This covers a very long time span, 4000 years to be excat (now that is something). The basic outline is given in blurb and saying more will give away the plot. I hate to give spoilers of a mystery thriller.

It starts with two kingdoms Chaturang and Sarprakt and comes to present day India. There was a massacre in the past and it is/ will be repeated on the highest functionaries of the Indian Government to low level persons. The killer always leaves a chess piece at the crime scene. The game of chess is very intelligently integrated into the plot.

The language is very simple but there are many grammatical mistakes which are eyesore. sometimes the author try to use flowery language and complex/ compound sentences and that creates problem. Here the role of Dhivya Balaji, editor (that name sounds familiar) is important.

All in all a very good book. It ended on a cliff hanger and waiting for second one.

One good definition of science as given on page 104

"The scientific knowledge we have at the moment is based on is based on theories. Our 'science' is just incomplete bits of information based on some assumptions and some theories backed by experiments".

My Ratings- 3.5/5 stars

The story runs in two frames simultaneously. One is of present time when the police as well as the nation is shocked by series of murder by a serial killer. And the pattern of killing is same. Before murder, victim receives a parcel from unknown sender. Killer leaves behind a trail of chess piece with a strange message. And the story of other frames is about thousands of years ago. It’s the story of two kingdoms, Chaturanga and Sarprakt, separated by a mystic mountain range. And King Viratha, crippled by conspiracy, urges the mysterious man of the mountain to devise a method to recreate the conspiracy and that gave birth to ‘The Game of Chess’

➡️Nice suspense thriller.
➡️Unpredictable series of events.
➡️That suspense factor holds your attention till the end.
➡️I am eagerly waiting to read second part to know so many unanswered questions.
➡️ Good one.

Review by Sohinee Dey

‘Let The Game Begin’ is a historical thriller penned by Sandeep Sharma and can be considered as a “steam boat” with a diverse range of ingredients ranging from mystery, suspense, to crime immersed into the soup of history; served piping hot! The book begins with a voice-over (in written format of course) narrating a particular obscure scene in which ‘Lambasa Parvat‘ and the mysterious ‘cave of mrityunjay‘ are seen contributing to the scene. After the slight perusal, the scene shifts back to iterate a past world, laid back at 4000 years ago and sets on to confabulate a rivalry between two kingdoms, Chaturanga and Sarprakt which have been perpetuating since ages. Chaturanga, ruled by King Viratha is bestowed with a dynamic heir, Prince Devrat. On the other hand, Sarprakt prepares for the war and plans a conspiracy to destroy the Chaturanga kingdom. When at war, it proves to be the time of evil because Samprakt proves to be successful in their execution and Prince Devrat heaves his last breath. Hurt and angered by the unfortunate event, King Viratha sets on to seek revenge and devises a method along with a mysterious man named trikalagyani to recreate the conspiracy. The conspiracy is not known to King Viratha but trikalagyani knows it all. The conspiracy is recreated in a game of chess and hence, the title of the book.

The narration paces on to the present times from the past and is fuelled with a series of mysterious killings all linking up to different chess pieces. The chess pieces are believed to be clues to the murders by RAW and CLAW; the intelligence agency and the security agency of the Prime Minister respectively.

While the plot and the the theme is extremely refreshing and diverges away from the mainstream cliché, the sub-plot fails to divulge completely into the land of mystery and history. Since the plot is crafted based on historical events and is set in a backdrop of historical archives, a more proper historical set up with geographical timelines would have spiced up and supported the plot in a more sensible way. Also, the characters of the present time, weren’t developed properly. They had more of an inclination towards being titled as “naive” rather than being professional detectives. Also, another thing which I felt was the sub-plot wasn’t stitched to the main plot properly and thus failed to enhance the events with proper reasoning. Bringing in the thought of chess and linking it to murders was good, but it didn’t answer the question “Why”. Again, I would say that including chess into the storyline was not supported by any valid reasonings. The inclusion of various sub-plots kind of made the main plot more complicated and it became a bit harder for me to navigate and truly understand what was going on. Linking chess to recreate the conspiracy just because the kingdom of Chaturanga was named after the game of chess; that reasoning felt a little vague to me. The story starts off pretty good but with increase in chapters, the plotline loses the interesting factor and drops down slowly on the compelling meter.

Except the certain plot holes, there weren’t any grammatical glitches nor were there any punctuation errors that I could cringe upon. The only thing which I noticed was, there were some printing mistakes on some pages and some words didn’t get printed on the others. Other than that there weren’t any such major mistakes that a reader can stare upon. Overall, the language was pretty good and use of vocabulary was also proper. The dialogues though good would have been more lively with more enhancement on “showing” rather than “telling”.

My final verdict—

I could catch the whiff of refreshing touch that the book brought with itself. The theme and the idea was was new to me and very different from what I have read till now. The whodunit at heart of the plotline serves its purpose as the mystery of the killer is kept in the dark till the end of the story but the execution lacked richness.

This book can be read by all. This is quite an interesting story. It might not be too exciting or enthralling to read but it sure does has the elements of mystery and crime that would fascinate you. So, give this a read if you are looking for a book that strays away from cliché and stands out on its own.

Story runs from past to present in a very fashionable manner that it forces the reader to complete it in one go.

Book Cover and Title- Book Title is attractive, creats curiosity to read the story it holds. Book cover is okay.
Blurb was interesting and catches the attention of the reader.

Language- Language is simple and inviting. Even the new reader will find the book easy to read.

Narration- Narration of the book is commendable. Narration is the key of perfect suspense, thriller novel and author has great narrative skills. Though, there's always something to improve.

Storyline and Plot- The Storyline is surely engaging. The prologue creates some questions in the minds of readers which were answered later. I liked the way author balanced between the past and present story.
Entry of Vyaapi is what makes the story so interesting. Every page creates curiosity and urges to reveal the truth behind the mysteries.
There are some typing mistakes which should be considered in the 2nd edition of the book. I find the book almost flawless except few grammatical mistakes.
Overall an interesting book to read and surely it will entertain you till the core.

I was given this book by the author in exchange for an honest review:

And I finished this book in just two sittings and that was only due to the fact that I had to go to the office. This book was wonderful and fast paced and full of twists and turn. The way the book moved in two timelines was very good. The book balances stories in two times present day and 4000 years ago where two countries were at war. Fantasy series because the places of 4000 years ago and politics of present are different due to Sandeep's imagination at work.

Like I said at the start, I finished this book in two sittings and flew through the pages. Though the font was a little difficult to read at times but that's due to no fault of the author. I loved the story and there's going to be a sequel so Let the Game Begin.

People who don't read generally ask me my reasons for reading. Simply put I just love reading and so to that end I have made it my motto to just Keep on Reading. I love to read everything except for Self Help books but even those once in a while. I read almost all the genre but YA, Fantasy, Biographies are the most. My favorite series is, of course, Harry Potter but then there are many more books that I just adore. I have bookcases filled with books which are waiting to be read so can't stay and spend more time in this review, so remember I loved reading this and love reading more, you should also read what you love and then just Keep on Reading.

A story that began 4000 years ago is responsible for murders happening right now. The book had me intrigued from the start. A person trying to climb up the Lambasa Parvat to reach the cave of Mrityunjay, and when he reaches, he sees an older verion of himself. And that was it, that was the point where I decided I would finish this book in one sitting. And I did. And it was incredible. Who thought that the boring game of Chess could have such a violent past and bloody consequences?
Two kingdoms separated by a mountain. A lost heir, a conspiracy. And 4000 years later murders start happening, and near each body, a chess piece. Who is this mystery chess killer?
Well let me be honest, I kinda figured it out (Thanks to the movie Se7en and my awesome instincts), and yet the book still managed to surprise me in the end.
It bordered on the edges of Magical Realism. Do the killings really have anything to do with the war years ago? Or maybe it's just what the killer believes? Men and women with no connection with each other, killed by a single man and the chess piece is the only common link.
Well I've already commented on how intriguing the story was, I'll also say that the writing was smart and refined.
Curiosity, my friend, is nothing but a sweet way to kill yourself
Even the characters were all diverse and interesting. A history professor/blogger, member of CLAW, and of course the mysterious Vyaapi.
I'll recommend this to all Mystery/Thriller lovers.

Started this book this morning with high hopes and attentive mind.

To be honest, I thought this book was about the origin of Chess or something related to chess. The excerpt was helpful in attracting audience but the book cannot be explained with those 200 or so words.

The book had more; more drama, more action, more suspense, more love, more revenge, more everything.

I was inside the book and with Surya the instant he made his appearance. I knew, without doubt, this book is going to keep me away from my peace and common needs like food, water for quite some time.

When I was reading........

The book seems a bit confusing midplot but sticking to the end pays off with most of the confusion resolved.
The author has woven an interesting plot and has managed to create anticipation in the reader.
The book ends with unanswered questions, promising another book from the author's pen.

Ratings- 3.8 out of 5 stars.

It was a bit difficult ,providing the current rating to the book as it is the first part of a probable series and it leaves many questions unanswered.
There were some questions which should have been answered in the first book itself as those might bother a reader who is anxious to know the details.

The author's hard work can be seen in the his research and is worth the appreciation as well.
A goodread for anyone who is atleast a tad bit interested in thrillers.

A crime thriller story, a fictional story giving the touch of realistic events.
Cover design is good.
Good title.
Theme of this book is about a girl who has suffered and undergone through trauma because of falling in love with a wrong person.
The language is precise up-to the point. Things could have been better at some loose ends, but its considerable judging the fact its a crime book.
Narration is okay.

Though I do not love reading mythological or historical books, but I somehow picked this one as an author must try reading all genres. I am glad it was a good pick as it grew my interest in such books. No doubt, author has done remarkable job in choosing characters, plotting the sequence, and exploring his creative mind.
I loved the characters of Vyapi and Surya the most . I loved the twists throughout the book. There is a lot to write in review, but readers have already mentioned all the things this book holds. So, I am ending up with a quote that I loved "this world is full of numbers, numbers waiting to get decoded. Equations are everywhere; this world is nothing but mathematics"

On the start, the cover of the novel is very appealing with mustard color with chess piece at the front!

4000 years was quite a while however not for somebody who was agonizing in vengeance.

It can be a revenge novel that was carried forward from last 4000 years.

Two kingdoms, Chaturanga and Sarprakt, isolated by a spiritualist mountain reach are at war with each other since ages. Chaturanga, ruled by King Viratha, is soon gave with a dynamic beneficiary, and the entire kingdom is suffocated in customs and party. On the other side, Sarprakt is executing a merciless intrigue. Ruler Viratha, disabled by the connivance, encourages the baffling man of the mountain to devise a technique to reproduce the intrigue and that brought forth 'The Game of Chess'.

PLOT: Stunning idea and amazingly composed book. It is quite hard to switch among st history and give and that excessively POV's yet the writer never makes you feel any blemish in his written work. The thriller will keep you on the edge of your seat. A very perfect book without a doubt.

The book begins with a preamble giving a look at the past related with the story.

As the book begins, it rapidly hops into a progression of murders that go with a message in an antiquated dialect and a chess board's piece. The homicides then no more stay connected with the Police compel itself, however is attempted by CLAW, an office delegated to shield the Prime Minister of the country – as a bit of Chess is found in her auto's back.

A legend of the interminable Vyaapi then tumbles off every one of the myths when he himself surrenders to the CLAW. As per the stories and request gave by Vyaapi, the CLAW researches the case altogether just to locate the flighty.

A beautiful portrayal in place, the writer figures out how to furnish you with an unpardonable book. A read that I would prescribe to include into your rack

Uncommon plot and broad exploration are the two principle focuses that makes this book a phenomenal read. Bend and turns are so wonderfully made that it won't give you a chance to rest till you complete the book.

Anticipating the spin-off of this book

The story is about history rehashing itself. In this book you can discover how chess as an amusement was produced using Chaturanga. Is it conceivable that what happened amongst Chaturanga and Sarprakt 4000 years back can happen now. In the event that it happens would it be able to be ceased from rehashing.

The best part of the book is its plot, you can never pinpoint goodness dis was not specified or why this happened, there is no hole gap and you will throughly appreciate going pack in the past and returning to the present.

I adore the piece of lambasa parvat alot.

In general I will rate 5/5 for this novel!!!

Let The Game Begin, a story which dwells into history of Chataranga, the kingdom ; the place from where the chess originated , a curse and hatched plot which became sole reason for the pages which are added in the books of history we read and the destruction of the other kingdom . Story of a lovable father(a king)who losses his only son and reason for his existence , but he returned . He returned to take the revenge . A story which tells us our previous birth sanskar follows us in our following births and the karma will make you pay for your wrong dos .

Being the second novel of Sandeep Sharma , the book was totally commendable . The book left me content and surprised by the way it was penned down . The cover and the title was just amazing . Both the things so relates to the book . Job choice!

I always hated history but after reading the book I am inclined towards to know about my own country more . I want to know, read and learn the glorious past of India where the kings ruled, the battle they fought and the history they created for us. Prof.Dinesh Gandhi , a historian or better call ‘ The Historian’ man who was itself an encyclopedia of the history , the most loved and respected professor . His knowledge about his subject was above the par that he served the nation . Dinesh , was most inspiring character ; the man who coined the whole story due his research on the history of Chataranga and solved the most of the mystery of the story . The second I enjoyed the man who turn the table , Vyaapi ; the immortal , who traveled from the past to the present twentieth century . Vyaapi , who defeated the death and knows the future , who knows the reason why the thing happened .

The book had so many enjoyable portions but I would love to highlight that left me spell bounded , first the opening murders , the boy who defeated the world champion which his indifferent move . The other one was the chase which continued till the end . And the book was worth page turner because I truly enjoyed the thriller portion and the way the history part was penned keeping track with the story line .

The overall book was amazing and thriller driven . I was not astray in any page while reading the book . The presentation was perfect . The language was very eye pleasing and readable . The book was so good that I completed it in one sitting and it wasn’t guessing but I felt I correctly recognized the hidden character .

I would love to rate this wonderful blend of history and present 4/5 . Great Job Author!!

About Author:

Sandeep Sharma civil engineer by profession is writer by passion. His previous work ‘Hey Dad! Meet my mom’ has already made him famous in reader community. Currently he is also working on his start-up venture named ‘Author Paradise’.

Writing Style: 5/5

“Let the Game Begin’ by Sandeep Sharma is a historical thriller based on fictional mythology. Writing historical thriller based on mythology is really a tougher task. One has to do a lot of research work and focus on very petite facts which should not be missed. Author needs to be an avid reader of history and the elephant task for him is to make a boring subject like History an interesting and catchy one. Kind of a work which would not allow its reader to complete it till last page in one sitting. It took four hours for me to read the work. My six months old came and disturbed me but the grasping work forced me to put her in cradle and make her sleep. Now let’s go the writing style of Sandeep Sharma.

This is second work of Sandeep which has come under my wings for review and I must say his writing style has improved a lot and lot. When I read the first work ‘Hey Dad Meet my mom!’ I was impressed a bit but after reading ‘Let the Game Begin’ all I have got to say,’
Beware all famous thriller writers! Sandeep Sharma is coming to haunt you all in your dreams with his ‘Let the Game Begin’.

His narration style, writing style and use of language is so fluid and enthralling that it has no gape left within. As a reviewer I have read many historical thrillers but many of them have disappointed me because writer forgets few details. Sometimes any incident or character or any clue is left behind. Whenever I ask the author about it they are like ‘this kind of small issues can be left behind in major works’. But Sandeep has taken proper care of each and every detail, character and mystery. He does not lose the grip and succeeds in keeping the mystery intact. Like my previous reads I failed in guessing the mystery or end.

I haven’t found any negative points in novel. In fact I loved the novel so much that I wanted the novel to continue till eternity. Requesting Sandeep Sharma to write kind of a novel. :D :D

My overall rating for this work is 5/5.

Book Title: Let The Game Begin
Author Name: Sandeep Sharma
Publisher: Inspire India Publishers
No. of Pages:170
Price:165(Paperback)
Amazon Price: 30

Let The Game Begin is one of the enthralling historical thriller written by Sandeep Sharma. Every chapters are very well documented with full of twists that once you start reading the book, it leaves you with many questions entailing you with What-Next? The story is based on the concept line "If some things left unfulfilled, the history repeats it itself" with the evolution of the game of the chess and its connection with the murders happening around is surely a thing that will leave every reader with thrills.

Plot:
The story revolves around two kingdoms Chaturanga and Sarprakt. It tells how the ruler of one kingdom plans the conspiracy to ruin the king of the other kingdom. While serial killings happening in the present era shocks the nation. The police are rendered clueless with the trail of chess pieces left behind after every murders by the killer. How did the game of Chess related with the series of murders? How will they find a man who has died 4000 years ago? Can one defy laws of nature? Does history repeats itself? are some of the questions which leaves a thrilling impact on the readers mind.

Positives and Negatives:
The language is simple and classy.
The book cover is cheesy and attractive, catching the first hand impression.
Storyline is unique with full of twists and thrills going back and forth through the history and the present.
The story is very well described with every aspects from the history to the present and is well connected with the game of Chess.
The formatting over the spin off between the history and the present could have been done better.
There are some grammatical mistakes in the book but some of which can be neglected.

One of my best thrill moment from the book is the Epilogue. Sssshhh!! Don't want to create the spoilers but you'll definitely be thrilled after reading it. And the story's not over yet. The second part is yet to come so stay thrilled..

Final Verdict:
A unique historical thriller storyline with well described the sequencing of the events. I recommend one should definitely Go for this thrill!!

LET THE GAME BEGIN

BLURB:

Two kingdoms, Chaturanga and Sarprakt, separated by a mystic mountain range are at war with each other since ages. Chaturanga, ruled by King Viratha, is soon bestowed with a dynamic heir, and the whole kingdom is drowned in rituals and festivity. On the other side, Sarprakt is executing a cruel conspiracy. King Viratha, crippled by the conspiracy, urges the mysterious man of the mountain to devise a method to recreate the conspiracy and that gave birth to 'The Game of Chess'.
****
Serial killings shock the nation as the police are rendered clueless. The killer leaves behind a trail of chess pieces with a strange message. Random people are murdered. Connoisseurs of different fields - History, Chess and the Security forces - have united as the next intended victim is the most powerful person of the country. How is Chess involved in the whole scenario? How will they find a man who died 4000 years ago? Can a person defy the laws of nature? Does history really repeat itself? Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.

My Take: Marvellous piece of work, amazing characterisation and plotting, flawless writing and above all editing was a masterstroke too.

Having a number of twists and turns, I would like to keep it in the genre of Thrillers. The conceptualisation is too good from an author who is only two books old.

The Story revolves around two Kingdoms in the past, Chaturanga and Sarprakt, and travels to the present day scenario in the life of the History Sir Dinesh Gandhi. A lot of efforts and thinking has gone into plotting of the characters. I am sure that while writing, going back to the past and then coming back to the present day scenario, is very tough, and more so, if the past and present combination has been done in the same chapter. The author has made it look so simple with his effortless style of writing and clarity of thoughts. Nowhere did I feel that the story was dragging or was boring.

I personally liked the appeal to the readers from the Editor of the book “Dhivya Balaji”.

Sandeep’s style of writing has once again confirmed by belief that Engineers are awesome authors too. I really wonder sometimes, as to what exactly do they teach in Engineering Colleges.

Points: 4.5/5

Here is my copy of Let The Game Begin by Sandeep Sharma.

Review: Let The Game Begin by Sandeep Sharma is a History thriller written over the course of 18 months. And the quote: “History repeats itself”, has been proved in this book.
The book is filled with lots of twists and timelines. Each chapter takes you back to the past, and later puts you back in the present; but most importantly, it makes you wonder about the killer and what is going to happen next.
This is what I believe: if you are asking yourself questions while reading a book, you are reading the right book. And I asked many questions to myself. The game of chess. The immorality.
There are too many timelines and all are structured in the right order. I did not feel lost while reading it. However, there were many grammatical and punctuation errors. And as an avid reader, that part did bother me. A bit more of proofreading is all this book needs. Otherwise, I am waiting for the second part.

Story: 5/5. Unique story. For the first time in history, History intrigued me.
Grammar: 3/5. Simple language but loads of error. Sandeep has promised to look into the errors in the next edition of this book.
Formatting: 3.5/5. As far as timeline ordering is concerned, it is exquisite. But the writing format could have been improved. (There were spaces between the paragraphs.)
Overall: 4/5. An interesting read. If you are not going to be bothered by little errors, go for this book right away. Or you can wait for the next edition.

(Current price: ₹130. I bought it for ₹160. It is a sweet deal, if you ask me.)

About the story-
The story revolves around two kingdoms Chaturanga and Sarprakt. It tells how the king of one kingdom plans the conspiracy to ruin the king of the other kingdom. After many twists and turns history repeat itself in this era, after 4000 years. The evolution of the game of the chess and its connection with the murders happening around is the thing that every reader has to read.
Writing and narration-
The author and the editor have done something marvelous together. The ease with which the author has poured down his imagination is commendable. The narration style will keep the readers hooked till the very end. There were not even a single grammatical mistake and the language could be gulped down easily.
Title and cover-
When I first read those four words of the title mentioned in the story, I could feel the exhilaration dancing in my nerves and all I wanted was to explore what’s next. The relevance of the chess and its pieces throughout the end defines the appropriateness of the title. When it comes to the cover, so you won’t hesitate a bit picking up the book while having a first glance at the cover.
My verdict –
I surely don’t have words to give my verdict here. No words would be able to define how I was feeling going through the pages – thrill, excitement, exhilaration, nervousness – you name it! At every twist, I was swearing like anything and at the back of my mind the only thing was going – Man! How is it possible? I guess, this was my first historical thriller read and this book has increased the bars by manifold. The only thing I didn’t like was – to be continue

The book starts with a prologue giving a glimpse of the past related with the story.

As the book starts, it quickly jumps into a series of murders that accompany a message in an ancient (read extinct) language and a chess board’s piece. The murders then no longer stay associated with the Police force itself, but is undertaken by CLAW, an agency appointed to safeguard the Prime Minister of the nation – as a piece of Chess is found in her car’s back.

That’s where Dinesh, Surya come into the picture. The force of CLAW to solve the case is thrilling, and is grippy at the same time.

A legend of the immortal Vyaapi then falls off all the myths when he himself surrenders to the CLAW. According to the stories and insistence provided by Vyaapi, the CLAW investigates the case thoroughly . . . only to find the unpredictable.

The author deserves a round of applause for his study and to put a paranormal touch to a historical thriller. Unlike many fast-paced stories, this stories definitely is breathtaking though short chaptered.

Having been able to place the chapters at appropriate places which piques the curiosity of the reader, the story may feel slow paced or dragged in some (minor) places.

Also, minor editing baffles are seen. (Like ‘Vyapi’ turns ‘Vyaapi’ suddenly from the middle of the book.) The cover totally justifies the content of the book.

A bang on 4.5/5 stars from my side.

A picturesque description intact, the author manages to provide you with a unputdownable book. A read that I would definitely recommend to add into your shelf.

‘Let the Game Begin’; the game the murderer plays or the game of the Chess? What actually author has in mind while picking this intriguing title and the interesting subject to write on. The subject is something which definitely catches many eyes. But, that’s the power of the external elements; let’s have a look how the inner factors worked in my case.

The combination of lined-up events happening in 2016 and the stretched-out history episodes brings a nice flavor to the story. What act as the backbone to this piece of literature is the design of the plot. Nowadays, history participating in the workings of today’s life is every next reader’s choice. At moment it feels like, everything is infront of the reader, and there’s no mystery attached to the story, as events of past runs ahead of present, and that’s why in the beginning the amount of suspense and interest author wants to stir doesn’t come up to the point. As it is already mentioned who the killer is and the motive behind the killing, the series of murders doesn’t bring fire in reader’s head to catch the culprit. But then, a question keeps on lingering in the reader’s mind- the identity of the murderer in this life and the Vyaapi’s presence brings altogether a new life to the story. The very question maintains the decorum to hold reader’s attention and the zeal to reach to the end and to walk with author’s mind.

Its a story in different timelines. Its like a bridge which is built till present day from the era of Chaturanga and Sarprakt. Author has successfully created a world of imagination in which these two kingdoms exist and the reader keeps wandering in them.
'Let the game begin' is more than just a book its like a motion picture printed out for people who like libraries more than theatres.
I shall try to give a brief without disclosing the core of story. People are murdered in different parts of the country, in a strange way. Only one similarity. Chess pieces. By following the trail of blood, investigation reaches 4000 years ago. Historians and books were searched for clues. Then suddenly a mystery man appears. Was he the one who can never die? Was he the link to stop these brutal murders? Or he was the one behind all this? Well, answers are waiting for you in 'Let the game begin.'
Narration is so addictive that I have devoured this book in a single night!
Lets look up to what I can sum up in bullet points:

What's hot?
• The title, inviting enough to attract readers!
• Narration, language and editing- simple yet effective. This is the first book I have read with minimal printing and spell errors!

What's not so hot?
• We have to wait for a sequel. *Makes a face*

Well overall this was a book to be cherished and I will be waiting for its sequel!

Let The Game Begin from its blurb , concept, starting intrigues a reader to go on. Every page will leave you curious with; 'But ...Why?!'. The book holds an after effect of what happened 4000 years ago; there is history, scientific explanations, serial killer who leaves a trail of chess pieces at his crime scenes, immortals , a curse, black force and what not!?

The research behind the book is to be appreciated ; Google baba indeed helped the author well ;) Most of the concepts are scientifically supported like the theory of repetition of history, nature and DNA impressed me.

The story started with a bang with small and to the point chapters but as it moved on there were A LOT unanswered that slowly unfolds later on. It felt like old wine in new bottle for me; felt something missing , that oomph factor or say X factor that makes a book smoothly brilliant. The whole journey with the book was like a roller coaster ride with many highs and few lows and straights; I believe it could have been better and eagerly waits for the sequel to be!

With the author's previous book ( Hey Dad Meet My Mom!) in mind and the expectations the writing as well as framing the scenarios in flow can be improved to perfection.

I will rate this book a 4.25 :) and special applause and appreciation to the writer for his efforts.
