One shot ended Dr. King's life and forever changed the course of American history -- setting into motion a massive cover-up that has withstood a quarter-century of scrutiny. “He said very flatly to me,” We know there was a conspiracy and we know who did it.” “

I am not usually into conspiracy theory books and I will not give an opinion on this one. However, I can tell you that Dr. Pepper has been on this investigation from the beginning and seems to have the blessings of the King family. I was impressed with the scholarship and research that went into this book.

Dr. Pepper lays out the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King in a timeline and then goes through the contradictory evidence that came out in the first trial and the subsequent trials since. The story itself takes 313 pages and the Appendix is an additional 414 pages. All of his research and interviews are there for you to read and draw your own conclusions.

If you have an interest in Dr. ML King’s life and death, this book will be a revelation. I highly recommend it to anyone that wants to look beyond the headlines and get a more thorough report of the investigation and trials in the aftermath of his death.

The author is a lawyer who represented both James Earl Ray and Sirhan B. Sirhan. He certainly has something to say. I received this book as part of the Goodreads Giveaway program.

Dont let the hokey 90's bookcover fool you: This is one of the most complete and thorough non fiction books I've ever read, William F Pepper was not only a friend of King, but also an attorney for James Earl Ray. Historical research, and exposed FOIA documents wrapped in the narrative of an investigation makes this a compelling read.

Excellent work!

The most in depth work ever on this topic. You would think there would be petitions all over the place working to get those HSCA files released.

From the introduction: "The intervening years have only strengthened my belief that Dr. King's assassination constituted the greatest loss suffered by the republic this [twentieth] century."
In one sentence we have a simple explanation of why King's birthday is a national holiday.
