One final game of cat and mouse…

Ex–FBI agent Elliot Mills thought he was done with the most brutal case of his career. The Sculptor, the serial killer he spent years hunting, is finally in jail. But Elliot's hope dies when he learns the murderer wasn't acting alone. Now everyone is at risk once again—thanks to a madman determined to finish his partner's gruesome mission.

When the lead agent on the case, Special Agent Tucker Lance, goes missing, Elliot knows it's the killer at work. After all, abducting the love of his life is the quickest way to hurt him.

The chances of finding Tucker are all but impossible without the help of the Sculptor—but the Sculptor is in no position to talk. 5+++++++++ stars for the Audiobook

3 stars for the story

So many Amazing reviews have already been written for this series. I gots nots much to add.

Just......

-Tucker! Tucker! He is the best boyfriend anyone could ask for. I liked Elliot too.

-The writing was good as always after all it is JL.

-The Mystery part for me, was weak, i figured it out waaaay early and Elliot acting dumb to fill the pages bothered me a lot. I don't mind knowing the outcome early but when the journey is not that interesting, i get bored and it happened here.

- The romance part was wonderful to read but it was short due to Tucker's abduction, they did not have enough page time.

JF Harding did and amazing job narrating this series. This is my second JL's series and i will be reading more, for now Adrien will be my no.1 JL series.

Overall it was good but did not wow me.

JL ends this series with a

The best one in the series for sure. The only thing I hated was that Tucker didn't get as much page time as I would have liked. BUT even still, this book had the better mystery, the better romance, and the best suspense. I was completely enthralled by this story and I would have totally gotten kindle burn on my finger (if that was a thing lol) by how fast I was swiping the pages. I couldn't read it fast enough. I stayed up all night to finish it. It was a total edge of your seat kind of suspense that is not-put-downable.

The first books case is still open and it's being a huge thorn in Elliot and Tucker's relationship. The Sculptor is still playing games with Elliot and insinuates he had an un-sub. This throws everyone off balance who's working on the case. They're not sure if they are to believe him. But when Tucker goes missing the chances of it being true are frightenly clear.

I won't go into more because I feel it would give so much away. Just know that if you are a fan of JL and a fan of this series, there is no way you're going to come away from this one without loving it.

Happy reading, dolls! xx

Reread October 2020: Audiobook = ***ALL THE STARS***

***********************

Original review March 2017:

For me the best book in this series!!!

The underlying tension during the first half...

... turning into outright suspense during the second nearly killed me. I empathized with Elliot's desperation not knowing anything about what happened to Tucker, the love of his life, about his whereabouts or even if he is still alive.

I virtually felt the clock ticking...

... almost sensed that time is running out to find him.

And after all this time, the serial killer still gave me the creeps...
giphy.gif (500×267)

or maybe I should say that the pictures in my head imagining the things he is capable of creeped me out.

The mystery about the possible accomplice kept me guessing the whole time, but there were so many twists and turns, so many red herrings, that I could not solve it, not for the life of me.

But Elliot's dry, sometimes a bit sarcastic sense of humor -something I loved from the very beginning- was still there and the connection, the chemistry, the love between him and Tucker was always palpable.
 :

Overall, this was the perfect ending for the story about one of my favorite couples and at the end I had a happy smile plastered all over my face.

Reread in 2021: This is a series that definitely needs more books! ..... this opens up a whole plethora of new cases for Elliott and Tucker to investigate, there's an ongoing case mentioned regarding the murder of a Seattle DA, and Roland and his activist background is always fodder for more intrigue.

2016 review: Ever watch a movie trailer and then, after seeing the movie, realize that the trailer basically gave away the entire plot of the movie? I really enjoyed "Fair Chance" but damn it, the book blurb gives away too many plot points and those elements don't really come into play until over halfway through the book.

Elliot Mills and Tucker Lance are now firmly a couple in the third book in Josh Lanyon's "All's Fair" series. Their relationship feels grounded and secure, and in the aftermath of the Sculptor case, Elliot has returned to teaching and Tucker is still with the FBI. But when it appears that the Sculptor may have had an accomplice, everything Elliot knows about the case shifts on its axis.

All aspects of the Sculptor case need to be reexamined and reevaluated. In much the same way, Elliot may have to reassess his relationship with Tucker when it turns out that Tucker did not go to Idaho to reconnect with his mother and stepfather for the weekend. Elliot wonders is Tucker missing or taking a break?

I loved this plot -- a case we thought we knew becomes even more terrifying with pieces of new evidence, a few red herrings, some personality conflicts -- and Elliot has to work the case without Tucker's insight and guidance. I really don't want to give away more of the plot (Book Blurb ... I'm glaring at you) but suffice it to say that this is a real page-turner that will keep your interest until the last page.

There are only a few (very steamy) sex scenes in "Fair Chance" but the take-away is how far Elliot and Tucker have come in their relationship and how they have grown in understanding of one another. Despite an ending that seems to wrap everything up, I'd like to hope there is another book in the "All's Fair" series dealing with Tucker's feelings after the ordeal and a possible new case. I definitely recommend this book!

Aw man, I didn’t want this one to end. I loved getting back with Elliot and Tucker and I definitely liked this book better than book 2, however, you do have to read them in order.

Even though it’s been a few months since Elliot and Tucker wrapped up the Sculptor case, it seems the serial killer isn’t done with Elliot. There is a lot going on in this one, to the point where I had to stop the audiobook and pull my kindle out because I couldn’t listen fast enough. It did wrap up very nicely, even with a few heart pounding moments that I did not expect.

I did like the ending because JL kind of gives you hope there may be more to come. Yes, please!!

While I enjoyed this story to some extent, I have to say that I was a bit underwhelmed in the end.

I didn't find the mystery part gripping nor convincing, probably because it has one of my least favourite plotlines and I've seen it done many times.

I still liked Elliot and Tucker, I only wish Tucker got more on-page time.

Audio – 5 +++ stars!!!!
Story – 2.5 stars round up for Sheba

I loved book 1 and 2, but Tucker’s absence for 13 of the chapters in book 3 didn’t work for me. I like Elliot, but I love Tucker. His absence was sorely missed, and the mystery part of the story wasn’t engaging enough to make up for it. Maybe if Tucker's pov was given along with some insight on how he was dealing being stuck in that mine shaft, would have me singing a different tune.

I’m assuming this is the end of the series??? An epilogue would have been nice.

If not for JF Harding's brand of auditory bliss, I might have dnf or skimmed/skipped several chapters.

4 Steady Stars!

A really great series showcasing Lanyon’s knack for seamlessly weaving romance with mystery. This time around things get personal. Very personal.

As Elliot desperately races against time to figure out who’s helping an infamous serial killer exact revenge for his incarceration, what Elliot holds dear is shockingly stolen from him. Does he have the smarts and the fortitude to do the most important thing he’ll ever do?? Things seem hopeless, but thankfully this is fiction and luck is on his side.

Though I definitely missed the on page time between Tucker and Elliot due to various plot developments, what little we did get was intense and romantic and swoony. I’m still charmed over and over by how far these two have come and how secure they are in the other. I just love this duo, and I’m not-so-secretly hoping for further future stories.

Of note, this series is one of the smexiest of Lanyon’s works, and I’m so not complaining. Also, I’m deliriously happy to say that this ended very very satisfactorily, and if you’ve read many a previous Lanyon review from me, that’s quite the hard-to-come-by win.

Absolutely incredible, what an journey! I think this is the best book by this author I've read yet... the depth of the characters, the pacing of the plot, and the mystery itself were just perfect.

I just so completely love Elliot and Tucker and the way their relationship has evolved over the three books, well no one does that better than Josh Lanyon. While everything is told from Elliot's point of view and his perspective of what Tucker is feeling and thinking, we get to know Tucker in such an interesting way. From the cold, hurt ex-lover in Fair Game who was misunderstood, and as they begin their tenuous reunion. Then in Fair Play and we see more of Tucker's devotion to Elliot, but Elliot is struggling with his loss of power (between his injury and not being an agent any more) plus his need for submission in the bedroom and trusting Tucker with this side of his personality. Tucker is trying so hard to be what Elliot needs, it just broke my heart to go through that with Elliot.

I can't even begin to talk about the development in their relationship in this book without massive spoilers, so I think I'll wait 'till the release date and update this review about that then.

Now, the mystery! Holyhotdamn - do not expect to put this book down once you start it, the twists and turns and the way it all comes back together were 100% perfectly done. Hands down the best mystery Josh Lanyon has written yet. I was cursing the author several times, "How could you do this to me!!" Seriously fantastic.

Throughout the book I was continually hit by the beauty of the prose (I couldn't help myself and I highlighted a bunch of the ones that really blew me away). This author's writing is always wonderfully descriptive but it just struck me over and over again in this book, it was simply a pleasure to read it.

I understand this is supposed to be the final book in this series but I hope we'll get some codas - especially if they are from Tucker's pov. He is such an interesting character and I wish I could get to know him as well as I know Elliot. I really love these guys.

There has been 6+ years since the first book, Fair Game, and 2+ years since the second one Fair Play ... and I must say that one may not want to read this as stand-alone, especially since the mystery is pretty much related to the case of book #1.

I admit I wasn't quite impressed with book #2. I wasn't convinced that it was a needed sequel. So I approached this one with a little trepidation.

Well, guess what, I loved this better than book #2.

One thing that made me happy was that the relationship drama between Elliott and Tucker was pretty minimal. Yes, Tucker will always be protective of Elliott. Yes, the fact that Elliott seems to get himself into trouble by inserting himself to FBI cases will always make Tucker not completely happy. Plus there's the big question whether Elliott wants to go back to law enforcement field...

However, it is also clear that both men finally make a deal to work through it. They both promise to talk about it and not go into bed angry. In that sense, their relationship is better than the previous book. Thus, I was really happy on that front.

And the mystery was GOOD! I was glued in, especially after Tucker went missing (no it's not a spoiler, it's written on the blurb!). There's always an added suspense to a crime/mystery when the one missing is the MC's loved one, which what happens here. So, I was REALLY invested with everything!

I did miss Roland though. Elliott's relationship with his father has always been a delight for me to read; and one of the highlights of the whole series. Roland doesn't have a lot of scenes but he's still quite an important figure here. I just wish he had more pages.

Now, there's quite an important decision that Elliott makes in the professional capacity. Because of that, I can somehow see the potential of this series to have more books in the future. Which, as a fan of Lanyon's mystery books, will be an awesome thing :)

PS: Elliott gets himself a dog!!

Fair Chance
is the third and last book in All's Fair series by Josh Lanyon. All the books should be read in order for a better understanding of the story and characters' background.

Josh Lanyon was a new author for me and I'm sorry to say it took me a while to get used to her writing style. I couldn't quite connect to the characters in Fair Game. Now all I can say is: I'm SO happy I didn't give up, because this story got better and better. To be completely honest, I might add I kind of had a hard time getting back to the series. I was afraid I might not love the other two books. But Fair Play was absolutely amazing and kept me glued to the pages. It's my favorite book in the series.

I enjoyed this last book too. It was a nice end to the series. It kept me on the edge of my seat. It made me turn the pages real fast. And their HEA was sweet.

Tucker was undoubtedly my favorite character and I'm still sorry we get only Elliot's point of view during this whole series. I wish we'd get a chance to be in his mind. He was larger than life, but also kind and sweet to Elliot.

This book brought us back to the psycho killer from Fair Game. His mind games almost got Elliot killed and not only him. My heart broke when Tucker went missing (it's not a spoiler - it's in the blurb). I really enjoyed this book but somehow I wanted more. More searches, more suspense, more mystery. I guessed the Sculptor's partner and what happened to Sheba's owner.
The thing that really left me hanging is a spoiler, unfortunately.

Overall it was a great story of two smart and hot men, who found their way to each other, despite all their differences and their pasts.

I’ve read a lot of books by Josh Lanyon. Mostly because I know that I’m gonna get something I’ll enjoy in varying degrees between “like” and “love”. They’re my ‘go to’ reads. But I can’t remember the last time a Lanyon book really threw me for a curve.

Until now…

Fair Chance is book 3 in the “All’s Fair” series and Elliot and Tucker are one of my favorite of Lanyon’s couples.

Elliot is, well, damaged, I guess…physically and a little bit emotionally too. He’s got a bum knee from a bullet wound, he suffers from PTSD’esque nightmares, and he’s kind of in limbo in his professional life between what he really wants and what he can actually have. He’s complex and for that, I really love him.

Tucker is solid and once he allows himself to love Elliot completely, he’s also surprisingly tender…and sometimes needy even. He’s loyal and true and for that, I really love him.

And I love getting more of them in a 3rd installment, one that has their relationship progressing and growing.

But then there comes that curve…

This book turns dark, in a bit of a twisted, mindfuckery way. And when Tucker disappears one day, the book also turns painfully emotional as we see Elliot through his insecurities and fears of being abandoned…and eventually his fears of the worst that could have happened to Tucker.

Throw in more manipulation games from a serial killer obsessed with Elliot and I wasn’t sure I was gonna survive this book. But I did…thanks to some (per usual) fantastic storytelling by our author. And thanks to the desperate need to make sure that by the end, Elliot and Tucker would survive and be ok.

What's to Like:
There is a full-blown, multi-faceted mystery going on here and it left me guessing for most the book. Actually, there were a few different mysteries going on at once and I was edge-of-my-seat waiting to find out the answers as the unfolded.

What's to Love:
This is my favorite book of the series. Elliot and Tucker’s relationship and their dedication to each other by this point was so satisfying to read. I love them!

Beware Of:
This is book 3 of the series and it cannot be read as a standalone. The series progresses from book to book so if you haven’t read the first 2, save this one for later.

This Book is For:
Well, it’s firstly for fans of the series. And of the three books, I feel it has the most solid mystery storyline as well as the best pseudo-romance storyline.

In many mystery series, a separate sequel presents a completed Story: at the end the case is solved, bad guys get what they deserve and the good-natured characters can sleep well until the next crime happens. Best with each other. It is why SOMETIMES you CAN skip one of the sequels.
But not HERE. You HAVE to read the previous books to understand Fair Chance and it would be better NOT TO READ THE BLURB. (It gives away a very important twist that is better to be introduced to while reading and not BEFORE)

The case in Fair Chance is based on the case of the Sculptor from the first book, and even if the case in the second book actually does not deal with the serial killer from the Fair Game DIRECTLY, there is still many useful information that will help you to get the whole picture.

I think if I had read this series BEFORE The Adrien English Mysteries series , this couple would have been my Josh Lanyon’s favorite one. It is true, that I have some nostalgic feelings about Adrien and Jake, but I think that I like Tucker and Elliot TOGETHER more. If an established relationship were NOT your first choice (until now), I’d INSIST that you give it a try. Maybe you will change your mind.

Andrew Corian, “The Sculpture”, a serial killer from the first book, is imprisoned and waits for the court case. With the mount of evidence against him, the death penalty is inevitable. However, some things have yet to be unveiled, and the only person Corian is ready to talk to, is Elliot. To Tucker’s concern. ( And I'm totally on his side here!) The idea of the FBI to make Elliot to a consultant on the Sculpture murderer case, doesn’t excite him, but they both have already enough fights recently because of Tucker’s overprotecting behavior. What Tucker understands under protective measure, means for Elliot the lack of trust. So…Tucker has no choice than to except this decision.

However Tucker is right, Corian is very dangerous, and even being in jail, he manages to manipulate people and still is able to play his vicious games.

The presumption of an accomplice was only vague suspicious at the beginning, but when the events take suddenly an unexpected turn, an existence of the mysterious accomplice becomes a thrilling reality that throws the lives of Tucker and Elliot off the track.

I have to admit, with all love and respect for Josh Lanyon’s books, I need a pause between them. To read Fair Chance immediately after I finished the second book in the series was not a smart idea. I need more variety in my books. Josh Lanyon , maybe one of those writers, who writes great stories, but also who doesn’t do experiments. What is not necessary a bad thing, why to change a formula, if it works perfectly. Maybe it was the reason why I had a bit slow start and why I paid more attention to the mystery itself and now I can tell you that...NO I WON'T. I'm not going to spoil you anything.

The mystery was THRILLING, my NERVES! And the writing is, as always beautiful! And all these delicious details!...

I was drawn into the story, I suffered with! But…when I thought about it one day later, I was a bit confused. Really this person fooled all them? So easy?! And I, as an experienced mystery's reader, just ate it up without any complaints? To tell the truth, I HAD some complaints while reading, and even now and them an eye roll. But…well…who cared?

It is DAMN EXTREMELY entertaining and…*sight*…Tucker and Elliot are just IRRESISTIBLE!

Let's face it. It's not every day you have to wake up thinking about a serial killer you put away. If anything, most of us only think about serial killers when binge watching Criminal Minds or CSI. But that's not the case for Elliot. Briefly added to the FBI task force that dealt with "The Sculptor", he is faced with the killer he had tumbled with in Fair Game. Tucker, Elliot's man, is leader of that task force and isn't happy with Elliot being in the line of Fire- so to speak.

Things are especially dicey because Elliot suspects that Andrew Corian ("Sculptor" boy) had a partner. A disciple. An accomplice. This is a theory that Tucker doesn't share. And eventually, after a thorough re-searching of Corian's house, Elliot is forced to admit that he could be wrong.

As this goes on, Tucker is to take a weekend trip to go reconnect with his mother. While Elliot is having quite the strained encounters with Daddy dearest because of events that unfolded in Fair Play.

When Tucker doesn't show up at home when he was expected, Elliot gets worried. Unfortunately, nothing can be done until he actually doesn't show up on Tuesday-when he had said that he would report to work. And bam! There goes my mind.

description

The blurb for this pretty much gives out a bit of plot but I believe that is deliberate. Dramatic irony is a powerful weapon in the mystery genre. Like when I was reading Agatha's And Then There Were None. I knew they were going to get picked off one by one. I just didn't know when and boy does that make for a page turner.

Lanyon weaves a story that is so well packaged, it was like a perfect gift for my grey matter. I could almost go as far as calling it the perfect book. It had schmex. And boy was that schmex fucking hot... Hoo! Lord! Nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnngh!!

description

There is all that you would ever need in a favourite crime story. Cuckoo women wielding shotguns, a dog, a serial killer who you love to hate. Like Edward Norton in Birdman. And Edward Norton in The Italian Job. But not as prominent. Because he conveniently got himself almost killed when his accomplice could be the one behind Tucker's sudden disappearance. But is he?

Go ahead, read it. I DARE YOU!

4.6 Stars - Simply perfekt. My love and admiration for JL's books is once again secured

Book part #3

Yay!!! — I was at last listening to the 7:43 hours audiobook narrated by J.F. Harding.

Fair Chance is the third book were we meet the former FBI agent (nowadays College Professor), Elliot Mills and his lover, the FBI agent at the Seattle Division, Tucker Lance. It took me some time (RL disturbed) to reach the end but it was so very good to be back again with these two favorite characters. — A great end to a very entertaining three part series. Thrilling crime solving, romantic with steam and, as most often with Josh Lanyon, a solid good well written crime-romance M/M.

I LIKE - hugely much

#1 - Fair Game (All's Fair, #1) by Josh Lanyon 4.5 ★★★★☆
#2 - Fair Play (All's Fair, #2) by Josh Lanyon 4.3 ★★★★☆

My favorite heroes in Lanyon's books are the ones deeply flawed and full of self-deprecating humor. There's something incredibly calming about knowing that snide humor may just land you the hottie you've been (not so) secretly drooling over.

Can I have him for my birthday?

The All's Fair series does indeed star the obligatory hottie, in the person of one Tucker Lance. He's mostly silent, occasionally brooding, with a super awesome career as an FBI agent, and ultimately there to save the day when the damsel-in-distress most needs it. Only... his partner is no damsel.

Elliot Mills is an ex-FBI agent himself, forced into early retirement after one of his cases went south. So now he's busy flexing his teaching muscles in college-level history classes. Unless... he's busy sleuthing around much to his boyfriend's exasperation.

Elliot's happy to show us plenty of self-deprecating humor, especially after a fight with Tucker, but it's quite clear that there's no shy violet to be found here. Which is a lucky thing, seeing as it looks like this time around, it's his turn to swoop in and save the day.

Dr. Who taking his sun eclipse protection glasses off

One of the hardest thing to review are books read during a reading slump. I just couldn't seem to get into any story. Dreading the lack of sleep annoyance, that 10-hour-flights bring out in me, I chose a book that should've lifted my spirits at the very least.

I had read the previous two books, and found them suitably interesting. Nothing particularly memorable, but far from being a chore to finish. So I guess it's no wonder that I didn't remember anything about Tucker's background.
I recalled Elliot's, plus his anarchist father's shenanigans from the previous book... but the ex-drug-addict-turned-religious-fanatic mother who had given Tucker up for adoption... was complete news for me.

Score: 3.1/5 stars

I didn't hate it, and the more I write about it, the more appealing I make it seem (even to myself)... but ultimately I just couldn't get into it, as much as I wanted to.

Of course the fact that I was sitting next a stone drunk idiot, who aimed a spittle at my knee, half-way through the reading experience didn't help things either. The rest of the reading time I spent self-fueling my indignation, rather than following the action. I did like the conclusion though, that was hot *cue suggestive eyebrow-waggling*.

So yeah, if you're a fan of the author, not to mention the series: go read it. You'll most probably like it.

Book 3/3- Fair play
Rating- 4 Stars
Sub-genre- Sleuthing but not by an amateur.

The mystery in the third and final book of the series is a continuation of a serial killer case from book 1. I liked the mystery but more than that I liked the bond between Eliot and Tucker. There were issues between them, but hands down they are my fav couple by Josh Lanyon.

And, although I was angry with Eliot when Tucker was in trouble and he was filled with self-doubt. But, our big softie Tucker is the perfect book boyfriend.

And Sheeba, the dog is so adorable.😇😇

P.S- Avoid reading the blurb, thank god!! I did that because it's filled with spoilers.

Fair Chance really is the best of the series. I am so happy we finally got more Tucker and Elliot. So happy!

Like the other 2 books in this series, Fair Chance has a heavy suspense plot. This book brings us full circle by revisiting and expanding the plot from Fair Game.

Andrew Corian,, the serial killer from Fair Game is still playing games and he's determined to make Elliot pay for bringing him down. But he's very cryptic as to how he will go about doing it. Does he have an accomplice? Is he just bluffing? It was hard to say, until Tucker went missing.

And for 30% of the book, I was at the edge of my seat. I knew - knew - that Tucker had to be ok. I'd never forgive the author, otherwise. But even still, who was responsible?! My only real niggle was that

I absolutely love these men, and if this is their last book, I am well satisfied. Of course I wouldn't complain about getting more, either.

Im not going to repeat what this book covers, as the blurb does a great job. What I will say, is that this is an utterly amazing series which I hope we'll get at least another book from. Josh really gets you hooked from page one. Elliott and Tucker are again in the thick if things and the murderer Corian is still hounding Elliott. You just have to read this. Dreamy sigh. It's over, once again, and I say goodbye...for now.

😭😭😭😭 it's over!!!!!!! 😭😭😭😭😭 I don't want to say goodbye!!!!!

2019 audio book review

I just love this series. Now which JL series do I re-read now. 🤔🤔. I highly recommend this. There are not enough words to tell you how freakin' fabulous it is. Below review 100% true.

2017 ebook review.

I was provided a complimentary copy by the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I am a super fan of Josh Lanyon and Fair Chance is just the latest installment in why Josh Lanyon deserves statues and parades created in her honor. I am the type of person that when a character really grabs me, I don't want to let go and cross my fingers that there will be a sequel. And Fair Chance is the reason sequels (now trilogy) exist. Elliot and Tucker are now an ESTABLISHED COUPLE. They are IN LOVE and are planning to stay together forever. I do love me an established couple; they are happy and are the best match for the other.

I've read a few reviews about this book and some have said the blurb gave away too much. I'm not sure what they are talking about: Tucker going missing or The Sculptor being comatose in prison. Personally, I was happy to know that information as it adds to the tension and drama - what's going to happen?? - and I was kept wondering is this the moment that happens. I was on pins and needles the whole time, really.

The byplay between Tucker and Elliot is very quick and clever, and even though they still have uncertainties between them, they work hard not to let that interfere with their life. It's especially tough when Elliot becomes involved once again in the Sculptor case. Even though the killer was caught (book 1 Fair Game), that's not the end of the story. It's gory but fact; the heads from the Sculptors victims are missing and the FBI are still not sure if all the victims have been identified. When the Sculptor demands to talk to Elliot, and only Elliot, what choice do they really have?

I was drawn in to this story, partly because I've been waiting so long for another installment into these tough yet gentle men, and mostly because Lanyon is one hell of a story teller. In addition to the Sculptor case, Elliot is dealing with the fallout with his dad from book 2 (Fair Play); it broke my heart to see Elliot struggle so much. You know Lanyon is not going to leave us hanging and everything works out in the end, but boy, the pages from start to finish really made me sweat.

I have to talk about the book cover. Fair Chance (All's Fair, #3) by Josh Lanyon Who are those men supposed to be representing? First, Tucker is a ginger, second, Elliot and Tucker are not in their twenties and the cover models seem to look in their late 20's, maybe very early 30's. It's a beautiful cover, don't get me wrong, but they don't match the characters.

I think Josh Lanyon is an amazing writer and should get more credit for her work than I think she really does. This latest installment in the All's Fair series is wonderful.

I've read a lot of books in my life, too many to count honestly, but it's in the thousands, and there are not a lot of authors who can write like Josh Lanyon. I am going to mess this up and leave out amazing authors I know, but I feel Josh Lanyon is like the Nora Roberts, or Sandra Brown of MM Romance. This is a compliment people, in case you didn't get it. ;) I feel this way about Garrett Leigh and TJ Klune, Charlie Cochet and Abigail Roux (this is not a complete list; I just can't list them all). Just know that we are so very lucky to have these authors in the MM genre. I dream of writing as well as they do, but will always fall far short.

So thank you to all you brilliant writers! You complete me, LOL.

Audio listen. I liked this best of the series. The characters have grown on me, there's some mystery with false leads and the main suspect taken out.

-- --
I enjoyed this one, it's reads as a sequel to the first book, not a standalone but you could easily miss the middle book (which I liked well enough, but didn't need).

Lots of mysterious things happening, a grudging working with different agencies for our super-detective ex-FBI Elliot. I liked in this one that while his cleverness is obvious there's also the air of different agents humouring him in the sense that they're not clueless but often already doing their bit. It works well with a control-freak personality and more believable that there are capable people on the case.

I'm not sure the case from the first book warranted this continuation, here 'The Sculpture' has a personal vendetta and to be honest I thought the first book more about the victims than the 'big bad' and this link a new thing. And the Blurb is wrong - he spent years hunting - No. Not sure the timeline of the first book but it was weeks not years, this book coming a year after his arrest. But accepting the set-up it's a good tense read.

Not so much page-time for Elliot and Tucker for reasons given in the blurb, hard to believe Elliot didn't sound the alert earlier though, I was reading thinking 'that's not like Tucker' the precedent is sort of there, as we're pushed to remember, but I wasn't convinced. They're still adapting to each other.

4.5 stars!

Is good. Vury good.

Maybe a spoiler? Who knows.

For the first time, I actually guessed the culprit early-on! Woo!

I loves Tucker and Elliot. Parts of this book hurt my weak little heart. I've always really enjoyed them, but in this book I actually loved them. I don't know. I feel like they're really an amazing couple in this book. I actually forgot, for a while, about their chemistry in bed. How silly of me! What a fool I've been!

I'm actually super invested in the mystery of this. (Ongoing? Perhaps. Who knows!) And I can't wait for the next edition to the series.

As usual, impeccable writing. I really expected nothing less.

Loved, and would obviously recommend if you've read/enjoyed the other two books in this series.

So, I finished reading this last night, right? And waking up this morning, I have that feeling.

Diagnosis? A decent case of book hangover.

YES! *pumps fist*

Now, this isn't perfect, the ending feeling rushed with several storylines getting wrapped up in a few sentences being the main stumble. I mean, it's Elliott and Tucker, and they've survived more than one version of hell, so how about we give them some time to luxuriate in their reward and let us share in their celebration! Error: insufficient input. We do get some, don't worry, but I'm greedy in their case.

But I digress, lemme start back at the beginning.

Yowza, the tension, the anxiety covers every surface, every single thought and action and feeling during the build up. *slumps* I'm exhausted from being all tied up in glorious knots. The waiting... the curling up into a ball of mental nail biting** in anticipation of what was coming. Because I could feeeeeeeeeeeeel that impending... *flails* unknown. That's the skeery part: the big huge nasty bad thing is unknown, a breath-stealing shadow, a horrible nothing onto which I could find no foothold.

** sorry, not sorry for the imagery. #literaryreality

Many of the elements from Fair Game and Fair Play are here: Elliott's dad, Roland, and Elliott's world at Puget Sound U., Goose Island, and the overall atmospherics that play a significant role all throughout the series. I easily slid right back into this place, and Elliott's mind as he leads us along. This is the most emotionally and mentally intense story in this trio. Each book has its own feel and, well, you can see some of the things that define the uniqueness of this one.

Some new characters bring impact in their own mysteries and subterfuge. One in particular, and she and her four furry legs provide a vital outlet for all of this tension.

Stripping it down to bare bones, this is Elliott and his excruciating journey through a living, choking, nightmare. The difference here is, he's got Tucker. He's got him, and Tucker has Elliott. This is the only thing that kept me supplied with oxygen while experiencing this story: the bond these two people have worked so hard to create, imperfections and all, is the hope to which I clung.

Was it worth it? Hell yeah.

Fair Game is still one of my favorite books and this story is a darn good way to bring everything full circle.

I haven't read a LOT of Josh Lanyon's books, but I do enjoy her writing style. I just need to be in a certain mood to read mystery/suspense along with my romance. And with Lanyon, the romance tends to take a back seat to the suspense.

I definitely like this couple a lot more than Adrien and Jake. Adrien, but more so Jake, made me ragey, and the doormat behavior was off the charts. Those books were still well written, though, so that's why I decided to give this series a go. Elliot and Tucker are much more rational and loyal than I found Adrien and Jake to be. And tons more romantic.

In this installment of the series, I was missing a bit of the romance, however. Tucker goes missing, you see, so the togetherness that I've loved so much in the previous two books wasn't there for me.

Elliot is, once again, working with the FBI and local PDs to catch a possible accomplice to The Sculptor. His relationship with his dad was still a breath of fresh air, no matter how much his dad and I would NOT be able to have a productive conversation, and I still love his character anyway.

I have a feeling this isn't the end for Tucker and Elliot. It's a refreshing series that MUST be read in order. If you're in the mood for a suspenseful romance, I'd definitely recommend this one.

5 stars for this last piece of Elliot and Tucker’s romance. It’s clear that Elliot and Tucker are in for the long haul but life has a weird way to put some obstacles in the path of love and test Elliot from all directions.

Still adjusting with the consequences of his injuries from a shooting when a FBI agent, uneasy with his strained relationship with his father after the events from Fair Play, the resurfacing of the serial killer from Fair Game becomes very personal and jeopardizes all aspect of his life.

I totally rooted for Elliot, crossing my fingers that he would find the necessary strength to save himself, Tucker and his relationship with Tucker when all is crushing down. It was fast-paced, full of suspense and despair, but with the promise of a satisfying HEA.

I wouldn’t have minded for more steam and for a great epilogue, but that’s the greedy me talking.

Good to read about these two again. In fact this part seemed like a great culmination to the story, it showed where they are and where they are going and let me in on that part of their story.

I also enjoyed the work/crime side, a good development in my opinion.

By this point in the series, Elliot and Tucker’s relationship is a done deal. The two are completely in love with each other, and worked out most of wrinkles in their romance over the course of the previous two books.

So I wasn’t expecting significant relationship development. But I was expecting to go all heart-eyed at least a couple of times, and that definitely happened.

Tucker and Elliot just fit together so perfectly, and they really are two halves of a whole. I loved seeing how protective Tucker is of Elliot, and how he just understood what Elliot needed.

And though Elliot can be a bit hard-headed at times, he’s more than willing to make reasonable compromises if they will make Tucker happy.

description

Plus, the D/s vibe that Elliot and Tucker have going on in the bedroom is incredibly hot!

What sets this couple apart from another one of Lanyon’s popular couples (*cough* Adrien and Jake *cough*) is that there’s no doubt that Tucker and Elliot’s relationship is built on mutual respect. The two may have their differences, but they approach each other as equals, and give and take equally as well.

Given all of this, I was lulled into a false sense of security when disaster struck. Seeing how close Elliot came to falling apart after Tucker disappears was gut-wrenching. But Elliot catches himself just in time and sets out to get Tucker back.

The mystery in ‘Fair Chance’ goes back to the Sculptor from book 1. At the end of book 1, there were still some loose ends and unanswered questions. Turns out that the Sculptor had an accomplice, who wants to make Elliot pay.

As always, Lanyon is a master at writing a murder mystery page-turner. I couldn’t wait to see what would happen next.

description

I guessed the accomplice correctly around the halfway point, but the motives and connections between the Sculptor and his accomplice were a complete mystery right until the end. The twists and turns kept me on the edge of my seat.

The book ends on high notes. The mystery is wrapped up tightly, and Elliot and Tucker get their happily ever after. Book 3 is supposed to be the last in the series, but there’s room for more if Lanyon ever wants to visit these two again. I wouldn’t say no to that!

If you’re looking for MM books that balance entertaining murder mysteries with a sweet romance, give the All’s Fair series a try!

Underwhelmed. That's my opinion of this book. It could have been so much more but a lot of the plot was predictable and some of it had my head hanging, thinking WTF, really.
I also disliked the ending.
I like Tucker and Elliott as a couple but felt the story let them down here.

Since this appears to be the last book in this trio, this will be an overall grade:

4 stars

This particular book gets 4 stars because the mystery was decent, with some good red herrings. But bc Tucker was abducted for half the book, really low steam, which is disappointing.

Anyway, overall review is 4 solid stars.

The good: REAL MEN

I loved that there's no "twink" in this series. Elliot I'd give 3 stars, but I suppose he's typical - kinda too smart for this own good, but not smart where it counts - like emotions, feelings, and expressing them. Like spending half of book 1 thinking that he was just good sex for the love of his life, Tucker. Who thought Tucker never looked at him as more... I can go on.

I'm not a fan of Elliot's need for control (outside the bedroom), his assumption that he's smarter than others (even when he is), his self-centeredness in many ways. And the things he says that hurts the people who love him (and whom he loves).

I also like that despite this being connected, each book didn't leave on a cliffie. I'm buying the books because I want to keep reading about Elliot and Tucker, not because I HAVE TO because the author used a cliffhanger to blackmail me into reading more. Each book ends in a HFN.

And of course, everyone knows that I love Tucker. BIG MAN in every sense of the word--his body, his cock, his presence, his love for Elliot. And his willingness to embrace that love, to say what he feels. That's brave. Much braver than Elliot. And given that he's had no love in his life, being brought up in foster homes, no real relationships, that's impressive. HE's impressive.

I'm not a fan of "ginger" men, but maybe below isn't too hard on the eyes:

Been reading quite a few gingers lately...

Anywho, all in all, I don't feel the $15 I spent was wasted.

Overall book rating: 4.5
Audio Book: J. F. Harding – 4.5
Book Cover: 3.5

I’m not even going to try and pretend I know what to say.

Just READ it already!

I might have thought that after Adrien English, this was a bit “watered down” but boy did I get a wakeup call!

Tucker and Elliot stole my heart every tiny bit as much as Adrien and Jake did.

This book had it all. Angst, sadness, emotion, and YES! I was scared out of my mind there for a good part of the story!

I LOVED this series! I loved it so hard and I do hope that maybe in the future we might get a little more of these two amazing guys.

Safe to say that "discovering Josh Lanyon - is like a belated Christmas and Bday gift warped up in one delirious parcel
