We read this one every night! From the calming watercolor illustrations to the bedtime antics, everything about this story is so endearing. Something about hedgehog sobbing on Will’s shoulder while the other animals gather to comfort her is so sweet! I don’t know what sunshine cake is, but I want some. I especially love the kind and gentle Will, who cares for not one but four baby animals that aren’t even his species.
As I read this book for the 97th time, I can’t shake off a few questions: How did Will end up caring for a baby hedgehog, pig, elephant, and duck? Did the elephant accidentally push the hedgehog, causing her fall? And do the animals ever actually go back to sleep?

Will is caring for Hedgehog, Duck, Elephant, and Pig. The day begins at 1pm and goes to 12am/midnight. It's a quick story that shares small events of the day - one event every hour. We counted each number and waved our arms for the "Tick-tock, it's ____ o'clock." at beginning of each page. It was a great book for the story time about clocks.
