I received an ARC for an honest review and that is exactly what you're going to get WITH NO SPOILERS, I PROMISE. . She has done it again ladies & gents, the wonderful RL Weeks has managed to captivate, conjure, and create a world gone mad. I thought Vol 1 was amazing and yet, somehow, Vol 2 is even better. It picks up where Vol 1 left off with very little flashback to the first, which I love. She did so in a way that you don't forget what happened in Vol 1 (not like you could if you tried) but without overdoing it to where it feels like you're reading the same book twice. In volume 2, part 1 ~ we learn more about each character and their history, making us feel bad for the bad guys, ALMOST. Some new characters are introduced, well more like characters that were mentioned in passing but not really part of Vol 1. Now you get to know them also. I have no idea how she does it every time, but damn she sure out did herself again!!. RL is wonderful at captivating her readers from the moment the story begins and doesn't let go until long after you've finished all of the pages. Like Vol 1 this has different stories and is told from different view points; yet, it is so easy to follow what is going on and who is saying it. Still you get so lost in the story that you feel like you're a part of it, seeing, feeling, hearing, and thinking every single thing each character is at that moment and that is so hard to do. It just shows how talented RL really is. The character and scenery building is effortless and flows perfectly throughout. The timing is just right. The writing flawless. In part 2 of Vol 2 even more new characters are introduced. But don't worry it is not confusing in the least. Things really begin to heat up as we see the true nature of some of those we were routing for, or do we? Is everyone just playing the role they need to survive in the moment, or have they just been hiding what has been inside of them all along? Better yet is everything just one huge spell that RL has cast upon us? Her beloved fans? Would she consider tricking us , her loyal readers? Do we at least get our happily ever after once we read the last page? I for one am not even sure, or maybe I am and I just refuse to clue you in? Maybe we are all just mad here after all!! I guess you'll just need to read Haunting Fairytales collection VOl 2 to find out what the heck I'm talking about ☺ (definitely read vol one 1st if you haven't). I don't think there is anything left to say because I won't give away any of the story. Except RL Weeks has hit another home run with this one! Even the pickiest of readers like myself have fallen under her spell and I believe, I am, in fact enchanted by her. This is EASILY a HAUNTINGLY BRILLIANT 5 STAR READ. IT WILL REMAIN WITH YOU LONG AFTER YOU FINISH.
I love the way the author takes classic tales and turns them into something new. Journey to Neverland is definitely original and interesting. The way the characters develop and the way the plot twists and turns is interesting and surprising. The way the stories are combined together is awesome. There are lots of surprises for the reader in this book.
Journey to Neverland is a wonderful read. It is second book in the Haunting Fairytales Collection, starts off where the first collection of stories ends, we are reintroduced to the Evil Queen aka the Witch aka Lori, Snow, Red, Bella, James, Merlin, Stilt, Ariel, Eric and Ursula, who intermingle with the introduction of many new characters, the Snow Queen aka Gillisa, Rapunzel, Captian Hook, Bell, Peter, The Pied Piper, Wendy and a few more in a mash up, retelling of Peter Pan. I think The Witch/ Evil Queen has met her match!
I love how R.L. Weeks has tied so many of the Fairytales together, it really is quite amazing. I Recommend this collection of fairytale retellings to anyone looking for something closer to Grimms original tales. These fairytales have not been disnefied, these are not happily ever after Fairytales. They are packed with revenge, desires, evil schemes, death, love, hope, but ultimately these are not happy tales, they are twisted.
I received this book from the author for an honest review.
R. L Weeks has done it again! Book 2 in the Haunting Fairytales collection is a must read for twisted Fairytale lovers! I absolutely love her take on these classic characters and I quite enjoy exploring the mad world she has created.
I love this Author's written so much, the second book picks right up with the storylines from the first, her retelling of the fairytales are one of my all time favorites. Love this series!!
I received an ARC of Haunting Fairytales Collection Vol 2: Journey to Neverland by RL Weeks in exchange for an honest review.
I enjoyed RL Weeks first volume of Haunting Fairytales, but Volume 2 was even better! Peter Pan has always been one of my favorite fairytales, so I was really excited when I saw that this book would revolve around a trip to the magical Neverland.
RL Weeks's always puts such a unique and dark twist on the classics, but she outdid herself with this one. The way each classic fairytale flows through this book is flawless and original in an unexpected way. I don't want to spoil anything for those who haven't read it, but the is twist at the end has me anxious for a third book!
This second book features people or elements from the following childhood fairy tales: Cinderella Peter Pan Pied Piper Rapunzel Red Riding Hood Rumpelstiltskin Sleeping Beauty Snow Queen Snow White
I love this collection! It’s fairy tales for grown ups, ones who like things that are a little twisted. It’s written more like the original Grimm’s Fairytales; darker, more complex and not glossed over like the Disney versions. Everyone seems to have hidden agenda and no one is who they seem. The ones we grew up with thinking were all good and angelic, may actually be bad. The villains, maybe aren’t really as bad as they seem. The depth of the characters is incredible and the more you read, the more you find out. There is not one character in this series that is one dimensional. There are places that are familiar to you, but not like you remember.
As the title mentions, the majority of this story revolves around Neverland. Yes, you will meet many characters from the story (as well as some from other stories), but there is so much more to them all. Weeks has added to the already wonderful list of characters, creating back story for every character. Whereas it may be a simple story overall, she adds so much more. And the direction the story the starts to go in at the end, I can’t wait to read the next volume!
This book takes fairy tales and makes them darker and much more complex. It is written in a way that you don’t have to sit and read it all at once, you can read it per chapter. Please, don’t stop writing Ms. Weeks!
WOW!!!!! Book 2 is even better than book 1!!!!!! More action, more suspense, more mystery and more deals!!!!! MORE EVIL!!!!!!!! The evil gets better and better and the teams are changing. The story is getting better and better as you go. I couldn't put the book down! Lori and Stilt realize that they have to go to the Neverland to find the fountain of youth. When they get there, they team up with Hook. Mean while Bella is tided up in the bottom of Hook's ship and escapes. Red, Rapunzel and Snow team up with Gillisa, the Snow queen and head to Neverland to stop Lori and Stilt. Peter is not the happy go lucky boy that everybody thinks he is, he is pure evil. He falls for Snow and maybe in love for the first time. Bell is beside herself over this, as she is Peter's number one girl. She teams up with James to find his Mum who is being held captive by a giant in a cave. Red and Rapunzel are in love and have a fallen out. red's secret comes to a head and needs help to relieve it. Peter locks her away next to Wendy on Death Island. Peter discovers that there is one person more evil then him and she is turning into the Queen of Hearts. R. L. Weeks has an amazing wild imagination to be able to bring all these fairytales together the way she did and make them work. What an amazing, fantastic, exciting story! I love the style of her writing and the dark side of it. I can't wait until book 3 is out! I can't wait to see what happens!
Haunting Fairytales Collection 2 by R. L. Weeks is a continuation from Haunting Fairytales Collection 1 where we have been introduced to a new version of events and personalities with some very popular and classic Fairytale characters. Classics include Beauty and the Beast, The Frog Prince, Snow White and Rumplestiltskin.
This time we mainly follow Snow as she prepares to get revenge on Lori, Lori as she journeys to Neverland to find the fountain of youth and James as he goes in search of Snow and his mother, as they get closer to their goals and who they meet along he way.
This collection was a very fun and interesting read, especially as we get to watch Neverland morph into Wonderland. That was actually an amazing bit of storytelling and the lead up was quite well done. I did quite enjoy this one more then the first.
It was fun revisiting my favs from Collection 1, James, Red and Snow, all the while getting to know some knew characters from those of Peter Pan, Rapunzel and Alice in Wonderland this time around. I just can't wait to see where R.L will lead us next.
I was gifted a copy by the author in exchange for honest review.
This short story explains how Neverland came about. Peter and his twin brother Pablo were forced from their village. The people there thought they were demons. As they ran through the darkest part of the woods, they came upon a small pond that cascaded down like a fountain. Peter built a home for him and his brother here. But as Peter's magic got stronger, he became drunk on magic and needed to be stopped. Peter band pirates to an island that would keep them there, no one could leave. That was Peters plan, no one leaves and no one grows up. Peter and Pablo have a falling out and Peter sends his brother to the mountains forever. Peter needs a girls company and goes out to find his Queen. And so the story goes on. This is a good book to read between Journey to Neverland (book 2) and Into Wonderland (book 3). It gets you ready for why Neverland came about and how mit is connected to Wonderland.
This review is from: Haunting Fairytales Collection Volume Two (Kindle Edition) Oh my gosh, I love this series! I love how the author intertwines the characters from different fairytales. I thought the ending was quite creative, and sad, just like the first book. I so badly want that happily ever after, start to get it...and BAM, it's taken away from me! Not like I don't know I won't get it, because these are haunting fairytales, twisted, but I still crave that HEA.
So looking forward to the new stories in the next book! A I've always loved Alice in Wonderland and I can't wait to see what messed up stuff this author comes up with! HA! Seriously hauntingly awesome series! Definitely recommend it if you're into a twisted re-telling of fairytales, and make sure you read volume one before reading this one or you'll miss out! Bring on volume 3! #B2B Kristina
In this book we start with Snow almost freezing to death after the debacle with Edward and avenging her mother, also with Belle being hauled to prison. She is saved by Gallisa who gives her something to help defeat Lori once and for all. James regrets the way he acted towards Snow and wants to find her. Rapunzel also starts studying to be a witch. When Lori and Stilt go to Neverland to find the Pied Piper and the Fountain of Youth they meet up with Hook. Rapunzel, Red, Snow, Bella, and Gallisa end up going to Neverland to find them and meet Peter Pan and Bell and the Lost Boys and other fairies. James follows later. things start to get twisted and hairy but will leave you wanting more and more.
I didn't think I could love a fairytale book more than volume 1 but OMG R.L. Weeks has killed it in volume 2! I was so excited to see my favorites return from 1 and the quests they were on but blown away by the surprises (Rapunzel and Red anyone). Snow need her revenge on Lori but will she find her in Neverland while Lori is searching for the fountain of youth? and OMG Neverland has a surprise twist that I'm over the freaking moon about as the place it becomes is my FAVORITE fictional world. I don't want to spoil anything. I just want to say your old favorites and not so favorites will be there with a whole bunch of new people and awesome surroundings and the writing is so good you will not be able to stop reading this book. I am such a fan and give this book the highest praise possible.
100% SPOILER FREE Wow Rebecca really outdid herself with vol two. After reading the Enchanted Kingdoms I did not think she'd be able to do it. Yet somehow she did. Journey to Neverland picks up where part one left off; however, we get to meet some new characters, learn more of those who we loved or hated in vol one, and its possible that your opinion just may change. I absolutely found myself switching sides when it came to certain characters. Once again we are taken for another magic spin with even more twists this time. Find new favorites to hate and old enemies to love as we travel deeper into the magical mind of Rebecca. *** Recommended for all readers.
I thought Volume One was amazing....well Volume Two was outstanding! To read the Fairytales we grew up with, having a dark twist to them is amazing. R.I. Weeks has done an astounding job in writing dark Fairytales. She has incorporated characters from various stories into one amazing journey. You will not be disappointed with her work. Open the pages and let the journey begin.
I have to say I think I liked this book more then first one. Even though I loved the first one I a big fan of Beauty and beast and this book just spoke to me. I love the different takes that R. L. Weeks has taken with the fairy tales. it is bring a great joy to classic favorites! You will truly enjoy this book. if you like Fairy tales.
R. L Weeks has done it again! Book 2 in the Haunting Fairytales collection is a must read for twisted Fairytale lovers! I absolutely love her take on these classic characters and I quite enjoy exploring the mad world she has created.
A wonderful magical yet dark and a bit crazy book. Haunting fairytales volume two continues to fascinate and shock me at the same time. With each new character and each new twist, R. L. Weeks brings you into a fairytale world like no other.
The story of Peter and his twin Pablo and how they came to Neverland was a fantastic short story and made you understand both their characters and Wendy's. I loved this spin and would recommend the fairytales series as a must read.
Merged review:
I loved book two in this series. Fairytales as you've never read before with villains becoming the good and the good seen in a totally different light. This is a must read series written beautifully I would highly recommend to others.
