Stephanie Ashcraft’s slender cookbook contains so many more great recipes than I ever anticipated. She uses boxed cake mix to make everything from cookies to fluffy cakes to fancy-pants cakes. There’s so much to love!
101 Things to Do with a Cake Mix is the first place that I ever found a recipe for dumplings cake. My mom used to make that at least once a month back in the 1980’s.
Here’s the sections of the book: Brownies & Bars, Cookies, Fruity Cakes, Fancy Cakes, Bundt Cakes, Muffins & Bread, and Children’s Delights
Do you think cake is borning? Not with this book. By using a standard cake mix in the box, you can make lots of different cakes, cookies, bars, breads, muffins, and even brownies. Lemon Poppy Seed Cake, Applesauce Cake, Punchbowl Cake, Upside Down German Chocolate Cake, Reese Pieces bars, Pumpkin Pie Bars, Chewy Lemon cookies, all these are just a few of the many recipes in the awesome book.
My favorite go to book when I need something quick and easy for a school gathering or other take-along. I have both the paperback and Kindle version. Most recipes use things that are easy to find in the store, or are already in my pantry. These are great recipes to use as a base then add more things to customize. A cookbook that should be on every parent's shelf.
Ok, ok, not my finest hour. I really do pride myself on making it (whatever) from scratch (or buying it hot at Market of Choice or the Co-op), but sometimes one needs to experiment. I'm thinking maybe a plum cake similar to Nigella's clementine cake but maybe with a yellow cake mix?
Ms. Ashcroft provides a lot of tasty and cute desserts that anyone can do for any occasion. If you have little people, this book has you covered too! Enjoy your treats!
The 101 Things to Do Cookbook Series makes a great gift for the beginning cook. Each one contains quick, easy and impressive dishes to make. Great step by step instructions, which is very helpful because there are no pictures. At the beginning are helpful hints, which is almost the best part of the cookbook.
Plenty of good recipes here, especially the ones for cake cookies. I'm hoping to try some of these recipes soon. From what I've learned in this book, you can add 1/3 cup oil and 2 eggs to most cake mixes and make some tasty cookies. Yummy!
