"Fate can strike like an invisible hand.", Anytime a story starts with a good strong quote like that, I find myself remembering these quotes, and trying to link them together throughout the story. Amber Flora has once again created such an amazing story, that is a great follow up to Between Two Realms: Awaken. There's no spoilers ahead!
When Awaken ended, Ashtyn was kidnapped by Damon, so as Ascendant starts up, it begins with Ashtyn being imprisoned by Damon. Ashtyn gets three meals a day, gets to read books and even gets a few hours outside to walk around. Some would say, what's the problem? But all Ashtyn wants is to be free, and knows that Cody and Mac will rescue her, but this time she wants to save herself. But Ashtyn knows that the clock is ticking, and it's only a matter of time before her time is up. Ashtyn has to fight for her freedom, fight her fate, and also fight for love. There's so many secrets, and as each one comes to light, everyone that Ashtyn loves gets put into great danger. But Ashtyn has to figure out who to trust in order to make her decisions.
There is SO much that happens throughout this story, and Amber Flora keeps you on your toes. There was never a point in time through out the story that I thought I knew what was going to happen next. Such a great book!!
I give Ascendant (book two in the Between Two Realms series) four stars. This book is part of a series that should be read in order to understand everything. SPOILERS AHEAD IF YOU HAVEN’T READ BOOK ONE!!!
Ashtyn Lane agreed to go with the evil Damon if he would let Mac go. He has agreed and has taken her back with him to his hidden place of living. She is a prisoner in his place and he has demanded a male heir from her. He is a sick and demented individual, but at least he is trying to woo her. It could be worse. But she is still a prisoner. She misses the people she has come to see as family. And she will not sleep with Damon just to produce and an heir. She doesn’t even want him touching her. But she has little choice. So she will play nice and bide her time.
Then a stranger comes to Damon’s to teach her how to fight. But he doesn’t seem like the other twisted individuals Damon keeps around. Is there more than meets the eye with him.
Cody, Mac, and the rest of her little family are determined to find Ashtyn and get her back. She has had an impact on each and every one of them in her own way. They will do anything to rescue her. Will they be able to formulate a plan good enough to work against someone as powerful as Damon?
This was a good second book in the series. It picks up where book one left off and make some twists and turns before leaving you wanting to read book three asap. The characters are done really well and I feel like part of their group when I read it. It pulls you into the story and makes you want to keep reading until you are done. Highly recommend.
Ascendant is the second book in the Between Two realms series, by Amber Flora. It continues where the first book left off. Ms. Flora has once again created a unique and captivating story; transporting us with her well-crafted words, into the world of Dream Walkers, Wizards and Vampires- and their different Realms. The story has a lot happening in it and is multi-layered, containing aspects of fantasy/paranormal, mystery, suspense, action, drama and romance. If you haven’t read Awaken, the first book in the series- then I suggest that you do as it lays the foundation to this book and introduces the whole storyline, backstory and characters that will enhance your comprehension and reading experience. In the first book we meet Ashtyn Lane who had just found out about her uniqueness and family history. She finally feels like she belongs somewhere. But forces outside her control has snatched it all away. The evil Damon has captured Ashtyn and plans to use her to take control over the realms. Ashtyn has agreed to stay with him in exchange for the safety of her loved ones. She gets three meals a day, books to read and a few hours to enjoy being outside. But she is determined to escape him. Ashtyn knows the bargain she made with Damon has a set time frame and the end of that time is fast approaching. The clock is ticking and Ashtyn must find a way to save herself, because she doesn’t want any of her friends to be harmed while trying to rescue her- If they can even find her. As the story progresses, secrets are revealed. She develops strength and power she never knew she was capable of. Now she just needs to determine who she can trust to help her. Who is the mysterious and handsome stranger that is to teach her? Can she trust him, or has he got his own agenda? Will Damon get his way? Will she be able to escape in time? What of her friends? What secrets are revealed? I really liked the first book, but this one surpasses it on all levels and I enjoyed reading this book even more than the first. Ms. Flora has built a lot of drama, tension and suspense into the story, which had me holding my breath in anticipation. The storyline seemed to be even more developed than the first book and was quite well written. The characters are unique, well developed and likeable- or horrible as in the case of the villain. This story is paced well and a quick read. I was able to finish it in a few hours. It is told from Ashtyn’s POV and the story will continue in the next book- I can’t wait for book 3 to come out! This book is an enticing addition, to what is so far, an excellent series.
Ascendant (Between Two Realms Book 2) By: Amber Flora 5 out of 5 stars
The story Ascendant (Between Two Realms Book 2) by Amber Flora is a Romantic Fantasy book. Ashtyn has sacrificed herself and her happiness in order to save her friends. She agrees to go with Damon in exchange for him not harming those she loves. Then while imprisoned she meets a stranger who is more than who he seems. Meanwhile Mac and Cody are not giving up on finding Ashtyn. They have been searching high, low and using every resource they have to find her. Will their search end with the release of Ashtyn? What of this mysterious stranger that has been hired to teach her the finer points or fighting? With each day bringing new revelations and secrets to light will Ashtyn finally find her true role in this ongoing battle between realms?
What an amazing second book in this series. Hopefully you have read book 1 as it has vital clues and explanations to many questions found in this book. The story is told from Ashtyn’s POV. The plot thickens while Ashtyn is held prisoner by Damon. All of her friends and family are determined to get her back. Ashtyn is learning how to defend herself and is questioning if she has an ally or another man willing to use her for his own reasons. One of the wonderful aspects of this story is that even though everyone is from different realms, they are all working together to save Ashtyn. I read this book in one sitting turning the pages to find out what happens next.
If you love fantasy and romance this book has the right combination of both that will leave you wanting to read more. There is some adult language and adult content so I would recommend to anyone 18 years or older.
Ascendant by Amber Flora is the second book in the Between Two Realms series. Ashtyn Lane has a battle on her hands, a war to regain her freedom. She is now imprisoned by Damon and the clock is ticking, she made a promise to the devil himself and her time is running out. An odd man with deadly skills is brought in by Damon, can Ashtyn trust him? Secrets from the past are dug up and new things are revealed about Ashtyn. She knows Cody and Mac will try and rescue her but she doesn’t want them to put themselves in harms way just for her, she can do this herself. She puts her trust in the deadly vibrant, Herrick, but is it worth the price she pay if she is wrong. Ashtyn’s journey is just beginning, she has to navigate new powers and strengths she never knew she had. And accept some truths that are laid before her. Can she overcome everything that is thrown her way? Who will still be there when its all said and done? I have no words for how much I loved this book. It’s full of twists at every turn and I was on the edge of my seat waiting to see what would happen next. I’m so invested in Ashtyn’s journey, of her discovering who she is and what she can do. I love the little bit of romance thrown in here and there just males the story so much better. I can’t wait to read more from Amber Flora.
Between Two Realms is the second book in Amber Flora’s Ascendant series. Ashtyn is learning about her blood history along with her friend’s blood history. Damon and Ashtyn are half breads, and Damon wants Ashtyn to be the mother of his child. Which Ashtyn agreed to so Mac and her other friends would be safe. Her friends will not let her be Damon’s prisoner also, they must find the traitor among the dream walkers. Herrick is hired by Damon to teach Ashtyn to fight, but Damon has another reason for his hiring Herrick. As Herrick and Ashtyn talk, he finds that Ashtyn is changing him. He needs to help her find some answers that only he can help her find the answer to.
I enjoyed this book a lot. Amber had me hooked and kept me reading until the story was done, and still kept me wanting more. I loved the bantering between the character and how they will risk anything to keep one another safe. While I was reading this I felt the strong bond of friendship and the confusion she felt in her heart for Cody, Mac, and Herrick. The only thing I dint like was that sometimes I did not know what character was speaking. The quotes are to close and there is no “he said”, sometimes I had to reread it to figure out who was talking. I think teenagers will enjoy this series a lot. It has some sexual references.
Ascendant (Between Two Realms) Book 2 Amber Flora 5 Stars
Wow, Amber has smashed it again with the second book in the series!
We catch up with Ashtyn two weeks after Damon has kidnapped her, and she’s made a deal with the enemy. Ashtyn can’t dream or use her new magic abilities to check in with her friends and see if Mac made it out safely or even if Cody is alive.
Ashtyn has discovered a lot in the time she has been away from her friends, some of which she’s still unsure how to process and whether she can trust her secrets with her closest family and friends although she trust the newcomer Herrick, is he friend or foe? Only time will tell.
Herrick is the mighty fine new character that makes all the women's heads turn. This could be that he’s a vibrant and reads your emotions, and has none himself and knows exactly what you instantly desire, Ashtyn changes him but is it for the better? Read it to find out!
Amber has written a well fast page second installment. Again written from most characters POV which i love as it gives the reader a total insight to everyone's thoughts throughout the book. It ended slightly too soon for me and i really wanted to know what was going to happen next, is Damon going to get his revenge? Is Ashtyn going to learn all her mother's secrets? Who will have Ashtyn’s heart? But now the waiting game for book 3.
Ascendant by Amber Flora is the second book in the series Between Two Realms. This book follows Ashtyn, a dreamwalker/wizard, while she is trapped with Damon who wants her to help him take over the realms. In this book we meet Herrick who is brought in to teach her self-defense and slowly she begins to change him. He learns information which can help the entire situation. Cody, Mac, and the rest of the gang attempt to find Ashtyn and bring her home but every time they get close, Damon moves them away. This book is a great read and continues the storyline from the first one. It is well written and really dives into the history of the dreamwalkers and helps us to understand more of the situation and helps us to really dive into what is going on. There are twists and turns which are unexpected yet still expected. It was good to dive back into the story and learn more about Ashtyn’s history and more about her mother and father. There are ups and downs and she really pushes the buttons to be able to be her own person. Herrick is an interesting add and the ending leaves you wanting the next book in the series. I look forward to reading the next one which will hopefully lead us to an ending but there is so much more that could happen, I wouldn’t be surprised to see more than 3 books come of this series. I give this book a 4-star.
Ashtyn is still in Damon's clutches in this book just like she was at the end of the last book. Things seem like they won't have a happy ending for Ashtyn at least that's the way she feels about it. She wants nothing more than to get back to her friends and family but she knows that right now she can't. There is no way for her to escape Damon even if she tried. Damon thinks that she will grow to love him over time and that she will finally give in and give him what he wants. Little does he know, she will always loathe him for what he is doing to her. She feels like she is a prisoner and truth be told she pretty much is. While Cody and Mac do everything in their power to rescue her she knows that it will be futile. All Ashtyn can hope for is that nobody she cares about will get hurt in the process of trying to save her. Damon is a manipulative person who really only wants Ashtyn for purely selfish reasons, whereas Ashtyn is an amazing young woman who wants to help her friends and family and her people. Will she be able to get away from Damon? I guess you'll have to read the book and see.
I liked book two better than book one. We continue where book one ended. Ashtyn is taken away by Damon to produce a child to help take over the realms. I didn’t want to punch Ashtyn in the face. It is now a square love or a hexagon? Too many emotions for different people. Ok this is going to sound crazy but I hope she ends up with Herrick. Mac should date Lori and forget about Ashtyn she is too indecisive. Plus Herrick is HOT!!! I mean the guy walks in the room and the girl is practically drooling.(I did) I loved how he went against his nature to make her feel safe. The book didn’t need all the drama. The plot was awesome without Herrick falling for her or them doing the nasty. She was so confusing at times. But also understand that he was the only person who could help her. Ashtyn has some very good qualities in this book. She was fierce, protective and moving in her need to be a new version of herself.
“Fate can strike like an invisible hand.” This is the second book in the Between Two Realms series. I would highly recommend that the first book, Awaken, be read before starting this one. That sets the scene, pace, and characterizations that play out in this installment, so without reading Awaken you will be confused. I was very pleased that this one was much more fascinating and gripping. I could definitely tell that the author had grown in her writing with this one. Ashtyn is living with Damon, a demon that wants something from her and will stop at nothing to get it. She feels as if she is in a prison and her suspicions of Damon’s character turn out to be very accurate, if not underestimated. She is to bear Damon’s child. “I wasn’t keen on the idea of being the mother of destruction, but for now I just had to survive.” She plays into Damon as she waits for her protectors, Cody and Mac, to rescue her. She knows that they will come, but will it be too late before they find her? She ends up meeting and being protected by Herrick, a vibrant. “I know little about his race but everything that I did know said that vibrants didn’t do anything without a price. I knew he would eventually ask for something and when he did I just hoped I was willing to pay.” Damon does not give up and a fight like no other for Ashtyn’s future and freedom depends on her ridding the realms of Damon. Along the way, she finds herself falling for the vibrant, Herrick, as is he. “You remind me of a hummingbird, love. Never giving up, so strong yet still fragile.” Ashtyn also has the help of Cody and Mac. Mac takes the lead out of the two for the first time and Ashtyn knows that he would risk anything to protect her. “I knew, no matter where life took us, what paths we chose, this man would always hold a piece of y heart. He was the embodiment of companionship. There is nothing I wouldn’t do for him- or any of my friends for that matter.” I look forward to reading what happens next in the third installment in the series.
Ascendant, by author Amber Flora, is the second book in the Between Two Realms series. Ascendant is a well written continuation to the story that began in Awaken. This is an amazing book and maintains the spellbound allure of this series. Ashtyn proceeds to grow and mature in this series, ultimately when she has sacrificed herself to save those she cares about – she is truly compassionate in that action alone.
The author does shift the point of view in this second book from being from multiple POV to only one, that of Ashtyn. We learn more about her in this book and her thoughts, wondering on the motives of others and what she can or cannot trust. We know that Ashtyn's friends are going to try to do everything they can to save her, but Ashtyn feels she needs to be able to free herself. More and more comes uncovered in this book causing more twists and turns for us to navigate through.
With this second book, Ascendant, Amber Flora has made me fall in love with the series, the characters and the story the author is telling. It is all consuming, imaginative and creative, alluring and more. This book caught me unaware and before I realized it, I was glued to the pages and could not stop until I came upon the last chapter and finished. Now to take myself onto the next book, Attainment – the third book of the series, because I just cannot sit unknowing what is still to come.
Ascendant (Between Two Realms Book 2) by Amber Flora
Ascendant is the second book in this series and starts where book 1 left off. Although I read book 1 first, book 2 is full of action and adventures and I think it can be read as a stand-alone (but as I’m fond of saying, seriously – why would you when book 1 laid such an amazing foundation)
Book 2 continues the ongoing saga of Ashtyn Lane (side note: I feel like there should be dramatic background music accompanying this book – some solid, old school organ notes perhaps) “Fate can strike like an invisible hand. It can lead you down a path that you have no choice but to follow. If you’re lucky you will end up exactly where you belong, but sometimes…fate takes a detour…” Ashtyn has been taken prisoner by Damon as she saw no other way to save her friends. This is to be her detour. While her friends search for her, never giving up on her, we meet new characters. We learn the value family of origin vs family of choice and the fate/destiny that has fallen them. Herrick is tragic in so many ways. “…everyone deserves to know the feeling of love”. Even though characters are from different realms, they are united in the same cause and my heart go sad more than a few times while reading this story.
This was an enjoyable book that kept me entertained from beginning to end. Once again this story is told with sarcasm and humor and great sweeping adventure and drama.
Here is one of my favorite sarcastic quotes: “That lad has more issues than Vogue” hehehe On to book three to see how this wonderful trilogy wraps up. It is a trilogy, right? We are going to have conclusion, right? (Insert dramatic organ music here)
