Rose had come to Cornwall full of hope and excitement and instead had found herself confronted with the greatest dilemma of her life! His name was Greg Trelawney. She thought he was a simple fisherman-in fact he was one of the wealthiest men in the country. She thought he was only helping her-but did Greg have an agenda of his own?
Angela Devine grew up in Tasmania, surrounded by forests, mountains and wild seas- it's no wonder she's not a fan of big cities. Before taking up writing, she worked as a teacher, librarian and university lecturer, As a young mother and PhD. student, she read romance fiction for enjoyment and later decided it would be even more fun to write. Angela is married with four children, loves chocolate and Twinings tea and hates to iron. Her current hobbies include gardening, bushwalking, traveling and listening to classical music.
The h is 26 year old Rose who has from Australia to England, where she and her mom has inherited a cottage in Cornwall. She has just been betrayed by her boyfriend, and former boss, of 3 years. The book opens with the h staring at the H, Greg. He of course sees this and approaches her. Not long after that she discovers that she lost her purse. The H steps up and gives her a ride to the cottage in his boat (Not only has she lost her money, she has also missed her buss) The cottage turns out to be in very poor condition. The H lingers till the night when a storm starts. He ask if he can stay the night since it will be dangerous to be on the sea. A kiss happens but no more. But there is an obvious attraction. The next day Greg succeeds in getting her a loan to renovate the cottage. Witch Rose finds strange since she doesn't have a job. He seems to have a lot of contacts for a mere fisherman. Hmm... He also succeeds in convincing her to live in his cottage while the renovations take place. After some hesitations she agrees when he says he will only be home at the weekends. The first week she realizes she loves him. Even tho she only spent a few hours with him by this point. And a neighbor warns her that the H apparently has a revolving door of women in his cottage. When Greg returns at the weekend they spend a nice day together. It culminates with them almost making love. But they are interrupted by a friend to Greg. This friend is one of the contacts who help fix the loan for Rose. Rose is hiding since she didn't have time to put her clothes on. She overhears the H and his friend talking. And it turns out that Greg is not the simple fisher man she thought. He owns several shipyards and is a millionaire. Rose who is still sore from the betrayed of her ex. That plus her father left her and he mother when she was a child. So her trust threshold is very low (or is it high?) Anyhoo. She confronts Greg and he explains that he wanted her to see him as a normal man. But Rose is distraught and crying. She goes to stay with the same neighbor who warned her of the H. Then weeks go by and the renovations go forward. The H sweetly leaves flowers everyday with a note that simply says “sorry”. Roses mother finely turns up when the cottage is finish. And they decide to open a bed and breakfast. The h is told the first guest is a man who needs a vacation because his heart is broken (poor man). Duh Duh DUHH! It's Greg! The mother doesn't know of their history but she feels that there is something. After some kissing the H agree to be friends, for now. The next day Greg is showing Rose his shipyard. On the way they stop at his house. The h gets a splinter in her finger somehow and opens the bathroom cabinet. A prescription for birth control pills falls out. Its made out to Ingrid Jensen. Now, our h has reason to recognize that name. It was mention in the discussion between the H and his friend, the banker, that Rose overheard. Greg's friend accused him of joggling to women. The h and this Ingrid. What is her pills doing in Greg's home? Had Greg been having an affair with her? Had she been deceived like Rose had? She doesn't confront him with the pills but ask him who Ingrid is. He answers “A spoiled brat who's been sent over from Denmark to learn about administering shipyards.” It's obvious that he has nothing but contempt for this Ingrid. Rose asks “But did you.. .was she.. .Greg, have you been having an affair with her?”There was no mistaking the blaze of annoyance in Greg's dark eyes. An annoyance that was followed immediately by a shuttered, defensive look as if he were preparing to withstand a siege. 'No,' he muttered, but he would not meet her gaze. 'And I'll thank you not to ask me any further questions about the matter” She doesn't ask any further questions. At the shipyard this Ingrid turns up. Greg is annoyed at her turning up. When the H explains that Rose is his “very close friend” Ingrid starts to cry and run from the room. Rose, who´s obviously very sympathetic, goes after her. Ingrid tells Rose she lived with Greg when she first came to England. Ingrid's father want them to marry to combine the two businesses. You know the usual stuff. She also says the became lovers after a time. But then Greg tired of her. To Roses credit she doesn't really believe Ingrid. But what about the pills? She tells Greg that she doesn't believe Ingrid but asks what happened between them. He doesn't want do discuss it. Then noting much happens. Rose moves back in to Greg's cottage since she can't work in piece at her mothers inn. They spend time as friends. Until Rose's ex arrives! He's opening a branch of his business in England and wants Rose to work for him there. He also wants Rose back in his bed but Rose is not interested in him anymore. She meets with Martin. When they come home from a dinner he tries to kiss her. Greg interrupts and basically throws Martin out. He then declares himself in love with her. She reciprocates after he ,again tells her there is nothing between him and Ingrid the make sweet love and HEA. Nahh. The author decided to throw in a little more drama. Greg has to leave town and when he comes back Rose goes to his house in the middle of the night to surprise him. But Ingrid car is there. Instead of confronting them she goes home and avoids Greg. Until he catches up with her. He tells her that there was a business emergency and Ingrid came to tell him. And HEA. At the end of this book I was tired of the h believing but not believing the H about the OW. The last little drama was unnecessary This book felt long and boring. They were friends for the most part so there was no real drama except small ones. This is basically a story of 2 friends hanging out.
