I was born in the shadow of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Western North Carolina. I met my husband, a Canadian, while skiing in Montana. We have lived in many different locations across the United States and Canada. We finally settled in beautiful, wild and wonderful West Virginia.
I have always enjoyed history and reading all genres. Until recently I was employed by a major bank in its IT department as a network analyst. I am enjoying having enough time to do research and work on my stories.
-2.5/5. I received a free copy of this book from the publisher via the Goodreads giveaway.
"Too Hard to Forget" is a historical fiction/romance, centred around Nicole Waltham and Lord Brandon Montagu. Despite an initial rough first meeting, Nicole and Brandon meet for a second time while Nicole is working as a paid companion for Brandon's aunt. Determined to pay her own way after being abandoned by her father and fiance, Nicole is enjoying her new paid position when Brandon and his aunt provide a new proposal: Nicole is to marry Brandon a few days before his twenty fourth birthday so that he can receive his inheritance upon his twenty fifth birthday (the inheritance conditional upon him being married for a year). The two decide to marry initially for convenience, and are surprised by their growing attraction to each other.
To me, the best part of this book was definitely Nicole's character. Despite everything that she has gone through and the time period in which the book takes place, Nicole is confident and independent and dedicated to improving her own life. I wish that her backstory with her father and fiance had been better explored, and expanding on this plot would have enhanced her character even more.
Secondly, I also liked how the author stuck to the time period in which the story takes place. The descriptions of the food, the clothes, the powdered hair and the make up- all of this is important when writing in a different era, and the author did a fairly good job of this.
Despite being fond of the main character, there were a few parts of this book that I was less pleased with. First, I didn't buy in to the relationship between Nicole and Brandon- there was no real build up to their relationship, and no reason given as to why they liked each other aside from Brandon's narrative mentioning something small about how he was able to easily talk to Nicole. Without ay sort of interesting build up, their relationship lacked any sort of chemistry for me. Furthermore, the plot became a bit ridiculous and seemed to spin out of control once Nicole entered France.
Overall, this book was an interesting and quick read, and will likely be enjoyable for others who enjoy historical fiction.
I found this story a little hard to get into but once I did I liked it . It is Nicole Waltham,Lord Brandon Montagu, and Nicole's former fiancé and Brandon's former mistress all make this story come together. I was gifted a copy and am voluntarily reviewing it.
I received this book from net galley for an honest review. Thank you!!
This book was an enjoyable read. It was little different since it incorporated British life and the French revolution. Lord Brandon Montagu needs a wife in order to receive his inheritance. Nicole Waltham was left destitute by her father, who gambled their money away over grief he could not overcome. Nicole ended her engagement to Lord Bedlington, who had ulterior motives for marriage to Nicole. Nicole gets a job as a companion to Brandon's aunt. Brandon and his aunt come up with a plan to have them marry so Brnadon can fulfill his father's "commands" before his 25th birthday. Nicole agrees to a marriage of convenience with stipulations of her own. They both fall in love along the way but there are those who would everything to drive them apart. Nicole is very stubborn and believes some of the gossip. Brandon cares for Nicole but is afraid to express himself to her. When he realizes he truly loves her, she finds out she is in France. Through some of his unsavory connections, he finds out she is in a prison and uses those connections to get her out. Nicole realizes she was foolish and both want a true marriage in the end. If you enjoy romance and history, you will like this novel.
Phew, it wasn't easy to decide on the number of stars for this book. On the one hand I really enjoyed rading it and seldom put it down but on the other hand I was a bit frustrated in the end. It just felt as if the end was a bit rushed and, well, there wasn't really a need or a logical explanation for the action that lead to the events in France in the last part of the book (okay, if you don't count the stupidity and illogical reasoning that seem to be a part of being in love as a reason...). Apart from that, this whole part left me rather dissatisfied. I felt that the book should have been longer and the part about France and the events there more detailed to lessen the feeling of it being rushed.
I really enjoyed reading about Nicole and I loved to see how Brandon and her got closer and I could have kicked him sometimes (a lot) when he was stupid and arrogant and of course, people like Nicole's former fiancé and Brandon's former mistress are people that are easy to loathe - so all in all I liked the book and I know that I'll read it again despite my problems with the last part. Even despite the last part, it would have been four stars instead of three if the hero and the heroine didn't have the tendency of talking to themselves in their mind that got a bit on my nerves. It doesn't happen all the time but too often for my liking.
Apart from that the book is well written and captivating which made it difficult for me to decide on the number of stars but in the end I remembered my feeling of ...I guess, deflation is the right word here...when I read the last part and settled on three stars.
'Too Hard to Forget' by Amanda Balfour is the story of Nicole Waltham and Lord Brandon Montagu. Nicole's father has lost their money and has went missing. So Nicole goes forward to find a job as a companion to earn money. While being a companion she meets Brandon again after he almost runs her down. Brandon is the nephew of the lady she is helping. Brandon and Nicole become 'friends' and he ask her to become his wife in name only so that he can meet his father's Will. In that Will it states that Brandon needs to be married to a honorable women for 1 year to receive his money and lands. If he does not then he looses everything. Nicole agrees and this sets their love story. I liked this book as to why I gave it the three star rating is that it didn't 'wow' me or make me not want to put the book down. I was able to take two days to read this...which for me is never the situation. Once I start a book I get so into the story I will read until done. So again not a bad read, just not one for me that I could not feel a part of. "My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read."
Nicole father had lost their money gambling. Nicole ended her engagement to Lord Bellington, he had motives for marrying her. So Nicole finds a job as a companion to Lady Scott. Lord Brandon Montayo almost runs Nicole over and she is Lady Scott’s nephew. Brandon asks Nicole to marry him but in name only. Brandon needs to marry for one year to an honorable woman for one year to receive his father’s money and land. If not he looses everything Brandon finds he really likes Nicole. Nicole is confused and doesn’t know who to believe and there seem to people who wants to destroy Brandon and Nicole. Brandon goes on a trip with his friends and she leaves him but things happen and Nicole ends in France and in jail. Brandon uses his connections to get Nicole out. I enjoyed this story for the most part but felt it was a bit rushed in the end. This wasn’t a bad read but didn’t WOW me.I wish Brandon had let Nicole know how he felt sooner but I was glad that he did get her out of jail. So this was not a bad story was pretty good just not one of my favorites I did like the characters and the ins and outs.
What would you do for the one that you love? Nicole knows that she has no choice but to accept Brandon marriage offer, she has nothing left in the world. Brandon needs her to be his wife for a year so that he can collect his inheritance but this is all so strange to him as he finds that really likes her. Nicole doesn't know what to believe anymore as there are so many rumors and it seems that there are people out there that want to destroy them. Nicole knows that it could never work so when Brandon goes off on a trip with his friend's she leaves him but things turn nasty and she lands up in jail in France. Brandon will do anything to save her but will he get there before it is too late? There is so much he wants to tell Nicole will he get that chance? A great story had me turning those pages to see what was coming next. I received a copy via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
