Cara Mackenzie is finally back home after a messy divorce, and she’s ready to start her new life as nutrition director at Sycamore Hospital. Things are looking good—especially since she’s in a blossoming romance with the handsome Dr. John Drakos. Then her former lover appears, and he needs her help. But even though Tony Cabella claims to only want assistance with his daughter’s diabetes, it’s not long before Cara is drawn deep into a dangerous web of addiction and murder.

Despite her misgivings, Cara soon finds herself pulled back into Tony’s life, and that includes socializing with his new wife and kids. Making nice isn’t as easy as it sounds, especially when questions arise about Tony’s influence on the hospital’s board of directors. With all the new hires and unsettling activity, Cara doesn’t know who to trust. Then, when Tony’s stepson disappears, his wife blames Cara for negligence, and the police consider Dr. Drakos a suspect.

As the mystery surrounding the boy’s kidnapping heightens, and the police try apprehending the perpetrator, unanswered questions point toward a conspiracy. Who shot Tony when he and Cara met in secret, and why is he refusing to call the police? How is Tony connected to the hostile new physician from California who is so strange and demanding? Cara’s suspicions send her on a perilous journey that will nearly destroy her.

While out jogging Roseanne Cabella (wife/mother) was killed in a hit/run accident.
Lewiston. Cara Mackenzie (31, divorced nutrition director) worked at the Sycamore Hospital.
Angie (step sister) Tony Cabella’s (husband/stepfather, insurance co. president, Cara’s ex-BF) daughter was supposed to be on a strict diabetic diet.
Dr. John Drakos (MD) was Angie’s physician & Cara’s current secret lover.

Gail Cabella (2nd. wife/stepmother) was on Cara’s to-do list.
She also met Doug (12, son/stepson, step brother).
The meeting didn’t turn out like Cara hoped.
Jeff King (USC student/intern) was trying to convince Dr. Rozgonyi the hospital needed a vegetarian diet. Jim Mason Cara’s supervisor, had to have a meeting.
Gail had called Tony from McDonalds telling him Doug had run off.
Cara had been there observing what Gail had fed Angie.
DS McAuliffe (Lewiston PD) came to interview Cara.
Cara had started her own investigation of the missing boy Doug.
She had followed the 2 to an abandoned House

What did Tim (Hispanic) confront her about?
What happened to Cara at Cataract Lake?
Who is Tim Jennings?

I did not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing this book. While I receive free books from publishers & authors, I am under no obligation to write a positive review. Only an honest one.

A very awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very well written suspense book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another great conspiracy thriller movie, or better yet a mini TV series. A very easy rating of 5 stars.

I think one of the major reasons of why I found myself admiring author Lucia Sinn’s “Chasing Their Losses” is due to the fact that she has crafted a an excellent, strong female lead character who shows very complex and dynamic traits throughout many of the scenes in the book. I couldn’t help but find myself relating to Cara Mackenzie in many ways which I think comes down to the fact that she has a very personal feel that contrasts with and almost three-dimensional type of demeanor that is full of depth and results in her coming off as genuinely realistic.

I’d consider this book to be heavily on the mystery/thriller side when it comes to genre, but there’s also some influences typically found in other genres that are incorporated into this story. There’s romance, crime, and plenty of drama which blends in very well with the many unpredictable twists and turns that the author has crafted, ultimately leading to a book that is hard to put down once you’ve started and become immersed in. I give “Chasing Their Losses” a strong 9 out of 10, and I’m definitely willing to read more by the author in the near future.

A story of true love and care

We meet Cara - a hospital dietician - who lives in a small town after going through a painful divorce. This love story turned serious after a couple of children were kidnapped. Cara end up being the centre of these horrible events and seem to resurrect painful memories about her past. In parts, Chasing Their Losses, makes you think of the Nancy Drew stories as Cara always seem to be caught in bad situations and having to be her own investigator. I liked the pace of this story as well as its unpredictability.
