When We Become One

Rate this book
**This is a standalone, with an HEA, no cheating, a little mystery and a lot of L.O.V.I.N!**

Marisa finally has her college degree in hand, after four long years, but what exactly can she do with a Geography degree?

After accepting a position with one of the country's most powerful government contracting firms, Marisa's career starts to take off. Her love life, however, takes a drastic turn for the worse.

When a ridiculously hot and insanely smart mystery man steps in, he's determined to protect her at all costs, including from herself (she swears that dang mace gun went off all on its own, right in her face!).

Can the gaps between their personal and professional lives get a whole lot smaller and steamier? Hell yes!

PS: When We Become One in the Richmond series is a standalone that does not need to be read in order. It's a series which follows the love lives of four strong and independent women.

PSS: If you love strong women who don't take sh!t from any one, you will LOVE this book. So get comfy, and start loving this short yet hot novella today!

Born in the midwest, Rae Daniel (shhh, that's her pen name) has been telling stories her entire life. After earning her degree in History from Old Dominion University, she found her niche in the professional world as an analyst. In her analytical roll, she found that compiling her research into “stories” for her upper management team, gave her the confidence to start to write all the other stories that were running around in her head.

When she is not writing, she is living a charming life in North Carolina with her husband and two kids. She enjoys spending time with her family, reading and drinking wine. (PS, not necessarily in that order) :)

She’d love to hear from you!

Jane
5 glowing stars for Suddenly Together and J.A Low. Her work was amazing and this is one of my fav’s for the year! From the get-go I knew I was in for an adventure…and an adventure it was!

Suddenly Together is the story of what happens when bestfriend falls in love and you are too scared to take that leap of faith.
When Vanessa’s PR career is destroyed after being caught having an affair with her boss, by the boss’ wife, she is used as a scapegoat for her boss’ extracurricular activities with almost all the women at the workplace. Not being able to take the ridicule any longer, one of her best friends convinces her to take a job offer in the US.
On her first night in L.A, Vanessa is taken to a party where celebrities and stars mingle alike. Welcome to LA LA Land as they call it. Being approached by two older men, the girls are hit on, quickly letting these creeps know they aren’t interested. Queue two hot, giant footballers…now this is the type of guys they want hitting on them. Excusing herself Vanessa heads to the restroom where she is approached and finding herself in serious trouble, being dragged off by one of the earlier creepers.
Hitting the man in the head with her high heel, Vanessa escapes, only to find herself falling head-over-heels literally into the arms of one perfect stranger. Dumping the footballer and instead heading home with Christian, her sexy saviour, they end up spending the weekend together watching movies and eating in-between having some of the best sex of both their lives!
Day 1 of her new job, Vanessa is called into the meeting by her boss to meet her new clients, rock band Dirty Texas. Walking in Vanessa finds herself face-to-face with the guy who she tossed out of her bed only hours before.
Christian felt the connection, this woman did things to him, both physically and mentally and wants/needs a repeat. Having previously learnt her lesson Vanessa tells Christian nothing can ever happen, they can only ever have a professional relationship and it has to stay that way.
Christian and Vanessa become friends, best friends and even move in together. Settling for friendship, rather having her in that capacity than nothing at all, he torments himself never fully getting her out of his system.

After telling Christian her vibrator just isn’t doing it for her and not wanting to watch her bringing home any more casual hook-ups he suggests a compromise.…”why can’t we be friends with benefits, I mean, you know we are good together in bed”. After debating with herself and although concerned about her job, Vanessa declares as long as no feelings are involved and it’s only sex, why not? Happily remaining best friends with benefits for the next few years, everything is working well until Christian had to go and ruin it…
At one of their best friend’s weddings Christian declares his love for Vanessa, only to have his heart ripped out when she denies any mutual feelings and refuses to give them a chance at a real relationship. Even though he knows she is lying not only to him, but herself things turned ugly when he finds himself taking out his crushed ego on her.
Vanessa does love Christian but is scared to take things further. Not being able to watch any longer, Christian bring home girl after girl, displaying their sexual acts in front of her, she moves out which only irrates Christian further.
To find out what happens next, you will have to read the book yourself! But let me tell you…it’s one heck of a ride and you’re going to love it! If you don’t read this book you will be doing yourself and Low and injustice.
This book ended abruptly leaving unfinished business and me screaming…WHAT THE FUCK, NOOOOO!!!!! Unaware this was a series, and still not knowing if it is…I can only hope Low keeps some of my favourite characters alive for many series to come?
This book had me laughing, crying, screaming and hot flushed with some of the greatest and classiest sex scenes going! Can’t wait to read more of this authors work…I’m definitely a fan and I’m sure you will be too!

My Thoughts
I found it really hard to get into personally. The writing felt juvenile and quite different to her previous books. I couldn't connect to any of the characters and couldn't feel Marisa and David's love. Marisa and David's story starts half way through the book.

When We Become One is the third book in The Richmond Series where Rae Daniel has created a group of friends that genuinely care about each other. Although each one is a novella you are still able to experience the bonds these characters have created. This story starts with Marisa aka Ris who is in a relationship with Trent that is nothing more than comfortable. She knows they lack spark but has convinced herself that maybe that’s how it is supposed to be.

Before long Ris finds out that Trent is not who the man she thought he was and thankfully gets out of the relationship. In comes David a strong, loving and compassionate man that is ready to sweep Ris off her feet. However, Ris has a past she needs to get over before she can even consider a possibility with someone else. While things start to heat up between David and Ris so does the suspense and danger.

"...Now, I know we've not know each other very long, but I feel a connections with you, I can't explain it . I feel like being with you is right. I can't seem to stay away."

David does everything he can to find out who is sabotaging his company and at the same time trying to protect Ris from the past that is coming back to haunt her. David is a swoon worthy hero saying all the right things at the right time. Although there is insta-love the characters recognize that there is just something electric between them that it is worth fighting.

"Damn, David, how the fuck are you not married? That was some serious crazy and alpha make stuff right there."

If you’re looking for a quick novella with a swoon worthy hero, a tight nit group of friends along with some danger thrown in than When We Become One is the book for you. You can pick up right at book three and not be lost however the first two in the series are free on KU and are also quick reads if you want to catch up.

Having started at the beginning and read When I Make You Mine and When I Become Yours, I know all about Rae Daniel's sense of humor and the passion that she puts into her stories so I was giddy to start reading When We Become One. Rae takes us back into this world to visit Marisa and David and experience their whirlwind romance from the moment they meet in Christophe's till they are consumed with one another and can't live without each other. Get ready for a steamy ride that takes us to emotional depths that sear our heart and keep us wanting more!

Marisa or “Ris” as her friends call her is a woman who is recovering from a past that could have stunted her psychologically but she is battling her emotions and winning. She will not let “him” destroy her independence. I absolutely loved the strength in this heroine and the way she confronted her past, pink mace gun and all.

David Carrington is the owner of a billion dollar company and knows how to rule in the boardroom. So as soon as he meets Marisa, it is only natural for him to decide that she should be his and he will do anything he can to make her a part of his life. David gave me the feels on so many levels! He is super hot in his “Mr. Buff-watered-down-shirt guy” kind of way and he knows exactly what he needs to do to make his “Ris” feel safe enough to open up to him both emotionally and sexually. I love a man who goes after what he wants in that self assured way. Pair that with some yummy muscles, dirty words, and smoldering eyes and I am done for!

Rae Daniel once again delivers a story that hits you in the heart and gets straight to the point. I highly recommend When We Become One, along with the first two books in the Richmond series for romance that is sure to make you laugh and give you more heroes and heroines to swoon over. Rae Daniel knows how to give readers what they want!

I love reading books that the setting is my hometown, and when they are good books it's just that much better!! The Richmond series is as amazing one!!

Marisa is so frustrated and convinced she has the stupidest degree of all time. She has a degree in Geography and has searched the whole U.S. and cannot find a job! She works for Sam, who own Christophe's in downtown Richmond, as a waitress. Some idiot grabs her arm and demands a drink. This isn't a bar where sleezy people come, just who does this drunk think he is? His friend rescues her from the drunk, aka Mr. Grips-A-Lot or Devlin. She gives people that she doesn't know nicknames, that's just how she rolls! Her rescuer, which also shall be named Mr. Dark-brown-eyes is gorgeous!! Little did she know she'd cross paths more than one time with Mr. Dark-brown-eyes! She's engaged to Trent, but things start to change with them and with him. Will Mr. Dark-brown-eye aka David become her protector?

Loved this book! Loved the characters!! It was very well written, shot and action packed! Abuse I'm sure isn't a subject that is easy to write about but Rae Daniel did a great job!

This was a fantastic quick read. I'm loving Rae Daniel's Richmond Series. Each book can be read as a standalone.
In When We Become One, Marisa (Ris) is dating Trent. She doesn't feel the passion with him, and he has his faults, but she doesn't leave him. Until one day he flips a switch.
This book contains domestic violence. It could cause a trigger.
Even though this is a quick read, it contains humor, suspense, and hot sexy time.
The writing is fantastic and the story flowed seamlessly. Told in both Marisa and David's POV.

Are Daniels 6 stars!

Rae Daniels is an extraordinary writer. Her subjects don't follow the crowded Indie Trends... she writes about things and people and topics she cares about- that we should care about- in this case violence against women, stalkers and the victims. The sensitivity that Rae Daniels' depicts in her characters is superior writing.

Heartfelt book

I liked this book. It had sad and sweet moments. It touched on a strong subject but was tastefully done. I loved this part:
It feels like there’s nothing left in this world but the two of us. Nothing from the outside is able to penetrate into this space. It’s only me and him. Together. Forever.

I cannot wait to read the next book in this series.

4/5 Stars!!

Marissa "Ris" has been in a stale, but comfortable relationship with Trent, but then finds out Trent isn't who she thought he was. Enter David, who comes in after Trent and sort of sweeps Ris off her feet. Only Ris wants to stand on her own for a while. The rest is David and Ris's story and it is so sweet. There is a little danger and intrigue, a lot of swoonworthy moments and a great story all wrapped up in a novella size package!

You're going to love it!

Nice quick read. I think I preferred the other ones over this one. Trent was an ass as well as his friend Michael. I would have liked Michael to get into a little trouble for the damages he did. His accusations caused her beating. Trent obviously was a nut and it would have eventually happened.
I'm thinking Mark and Amber are next. I'm not a big fan of divorce people for characters. I guess I just love that they're first marriage is with each other. I hate to think they loved someone prior enough to get married.

2.5, rounding up to 3. This just didn't work for me. It needed to be longer - it felt so rushed. And I really didn't feel any connection between the hero and heroine.
