Received an ARC copy.
I didn't like this but it appears I might be the only one. I just found it really silly and juvenile in parts. The prologue was great and I thought man this is gonna be good I think. Then the second paragraph turned me off. Who says "Oh nuts! How are you awake already?" It really came of comedic and silly. Then I thought I'd read a little more to see if it improved and it did not. I mean it wasnt this way through the whole thing but in many parts. I found the heroine, Paris unlikable at first and I never really liked her from then on to be honest. Sorry this just didnt grab me at all...well the Prologue did but thats it. I've not read this author before so I dont know if her style is for me. I'm good with humor in my books...I prefer it but this was just not funny but silly and I wasnt able to take it seriously.

When I want to blast off into outer space I turn to J.L. Hendricks books. I love the style, the characters, and the plot. "Worlds Away," plot, although simple creates deep conflict. Abducted and taken to a distant planet.
Paris grew up on the streets of Los Angeles; so when she became a slave on a spaceship, she determined to escape and go back to earth.
Commander Venay of the V'Zenian Empire had other plans for Paris. He wanted her as his mate. That changed when the Zateelians attacked Venay's ship.
I loved this story. The characters were well developed and the tension just right. It ranks right up there with Star Trek.

This is a very good Sci-fi Romance novel with a lot of twists and turns that keep you reading to the end. I look forward to reading the next novel in the series to see what happens next. If your into a different kind of romantic twist that makes you look at both sides of a story, then this one is for you.

I just could not like the heroine of this book, and the action was slow. I really didn’t get more than a few chapters in before it got too irritating to continue.

I really REALLY liked this book! Yes, I've read the negative reviews criticizing the "juvenile" writing and the simplistic, predictable plot, and while I can't disagree with those descriptors, I certainly have a completely different take on them. First of all, writing style aside, the book is well-crafted and flawlessly edited. The plot is well-paced, cogent, and interesting. The characters are differentiated in personalities and points of view. The hero and heroine move from enmity and distrust to respect and mutual acceptance of differences through communication and reason, rather than prejudice and violence. There's nothing second-rate in all that. Secondly, as a parent and grandparent, I see immense value in reading material like this which makes valuable intellectual concepts accessible to younger readers without graphic descriptions of violence and sexual behavior. Finally, as a former special educator, I'm delighted by the existence of recreational reading material featuring adult concepts in a format accessible to those with reading challenges such as educational deficiencies, TBI, brain-based language disabilities, or English fluency issues. Worlds Away deals with such important ADULT concepts as forced marriage, slavery, racial prejudice, and the morality of survival based behavior and the welfare of the individual vs. the group. Let's not be such snobs that a dyslexic thirty-five-year old or a twenty-year-old Spanish-speaking immigrant can't read something besides Barbi-Goes-to the-Mall-type drivel. I have only the utmost respect for author J.L. Hendricks' contribution to mass-market fiction; kudos, J.L., for acknowledging and proactively serving an underserved population of readers.

“Is the enemy you know any better than the one you don’t.“. That’s the key question in J.L. Hendricks’ Worlds Away: A Sci-Fi Action/Adventure Space Opera. What if the enemy you know abducted you as he thought these sorts of Andy ruins were needed for racial survival? What if he was, umm, particularly yummy? In the hands of a talented author like this one that’s the makings for what turned out to be a great story. Indeed, but for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed, I could go on and on with praises. The book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, and it is easy to highly recommend.

Another Abduction, But This One Is Different!
For 200 years, humans have been abducted to be slaves and mates to the V’Zenian Empire. On this particular abduction, Commander Venay gets more than he bargained for when Paris, one of the latest abductees, becomes the women he wants as his mate.
The story revolves around Paris' attempts to come to grips with the situation, help her fellow humans, take on a leadership role, and (in spite of her trying to deny it) fall for the Commander. Once events begin to look like life will get better, their ship is attacked. Paris grows into a strong leader who fights for the survival of all aboard the ship.
This is an interesting start to the series.

It's ok
I wouldn't pay for it but it's ok free. The dialogue is stilted and awkward (how many times do you use a persons name while talking to them. Most of the book I just skipped cause the author was going on and on about slavery in earth. I understand authors that subtly add ideology or beliefs to a story but this book was beliefs/ideology with the story added. I felt like the author was standing on her soap box shouting her opinion and just adding very little story to it. There was very little background on the characters and what was given was murky at best. If I get really board and run out of books to read I might read the rest but it's doubtful.

I picked up this alien abduction story looking for a clean, sci-fi adventure. This was sci-fi and clean, but definitely voiced as a teen drama. The premise for the story, an alien race unable to populate their planet and turning to humans as mates for procreation, was believable, but the romance was a bit lack-luster. The theme of slavery was a major issue, and I did like the heroine, Paris's, spunk and her determination to protect the 'human' slaves from their captors and from their captor's enemies. No profanity, mild violence, alien kissing scenes - so I would say this is a teen/family friendly story.

Paris gets abducted by an gorgeous alien who wants her to be his mate; she has the choice of agreeing or becoming a slave. She knew she was going to try and educate the V'Zenians that slavery was wrong, she also knew that she was going to to try and escape back to Earth as soon as possible; what she didn't bargain on, was falling in love with Venay. When their ship gets attacked by the Zateelians, an insectoid race who have even more sinister motives for wanting to capture the humans, life gets very hectic for Paris. This is a good, clean romance with no erotic content so it is very suitable for young adults.

I tried...I tried really hard but by 80% I was just forcing myself to read it and by 89% I was more scanning the pages then actually reading it. I like alien abductions and alien romance and adventure and I don't always mind insta love stores but this was just stupid. One second she is standing up for her believes and the next she is bending them for him. Yeah she is trying to change his mind on slaves but still talking about marrying her slaved less then a week after being captured. I mean seriously she lasted a day in the cages before agreeing to be his mate.

I don't have a clue
This is hard because I like the foundation of an abduction however the slavery part just didn't keep my interest. I was a little miffed at the woman because she seemed gung :O in the beginning but lost steam. I guess it was just the fact the story was a little more fast paced than I had liked.

I enjoyed the last half of the story much more than the first half.
The story centres on Paris, but the first half of the book she is running around on an alien spaceship, as self appointed champion to the human slaves captured along with her, trying to get them better food and conditions even though she is treated with derision by most.
Two other women form mate bonds with the aliens and these women help Paris focus on herself and her mate although she initially denies she feels drawn to him.
An unexpected encounter with hostile bug-like aliens crashes their ship on a supply planet and these bugs try to steal the human slaves. Paris is isolated from her mate and she has to help an injured friend by speaking with the ships doctor plus she take supplies to the humans and release them from their cages.

Pretty good
I've had this sitting on my TBR list since 2017. I don't know why I haven't read it yet. It's a pretty good story. It does have some instalove in it. The main character, Paris, even jokes about it. Even though it does have a some what HE A it ends with a cliffhanger. I will have to read the rest of the series.

Good beginning
Clean sci-fi romance is a small genre, I am learning. This is a good beginning to a new-to-me series in this niche. Although the writing isn't entirely smooth, it is enjoyable as the setting, plot and characters are interesting. Definitely continuing with this series.

Loved It
The author knows how to write a very captivating and interesting story. Love the chemistry of the characters with strong personality and a desire to not be slaves. I'm so ready to read the next book and keep them coming.

This is really young adult sci-fi. There is some violence and heated romantic situations. It does deal with issues of race and slavery specifically. Not bad for a new author.

The pg-13 adventure romance was too short on the romance. The dialogue between most of the characters was stilted and juvenile. Without showing more of the romance, it was difficult to see why any of the characters liked each other.

Action packed
This book wasn't what i expected but love it. It is a clean romance full of action and adventure. I can't wait to read the rest of the series and it's side stories to get to know back stories on the characters or what happens to others.

Great
This is about a young woman who has been on the streets for about 5 years. She sees a handsome man on the beach one minute, then the next thing she knows she is in his arms, on board a ship, leaving earth's solar system. I think it's a great love story.

excellent reading. emotional and action pure. Aliens capture humans from earth for neither mating or for slavery. One of the earth females , Paris is taken by the commander of the ship and her adventures begin. a must read in my opinion.

Gentle alien story.
Quick read that was interesting. Not sure if having made the journey they would have so 1700 to 1800 Centuries behaviour. Read it and see if you see my point.
